Chase's Girlfriend
Zoey marched through the boys' dorm, she was fed up with Lola and Quinn. There was no way Chase was in love with her. They were best friends. Why couldn't people understand a guy and a girl could be friends without anything more going on?
She pushed open the door without even knocking. "Chase we need to talk!" But she stopped, and she couldn't believe her eyes.
Chase was sitting on his couch, and making out with a girl alone in his room, when he finally came up for air, he turned to Zoey, and looked both confused and terrified.
"Um…hey Zoey…" Chase said awkwardly.
"I'm so sorry, I'll just be going." Zoey was about to turn around but Chase jumped up from the couch to stop her before she could run away.
"Wait, hold on. This is who I wanted to tell you about. This is Rebecca, my girlfriend."
"Your girlfriend?" Zoey had to fight to keep the surprise out of her voice. Seems like Quinn and Lola were wrong after all. Why did she feel weird hearing Chase say that? Its nothing its just the awkwardness of the situation.
"I'm sorry, I really wanted to tell you earlier but we kept getting interrupted and… um… So Rebecca this is Zoey. My best friend at PCA, just don't tell Michael." Chase threw his arm over her shoulder, and Zoey noticed Rebecca's eyes fill with some hidden emotion just for a split second before she was smiling too.
"So you're Zoey, Chase has told me all about you, I feel like I know you already!" Rebecca stood up and shook Zoey's hand.
"So how did you two meet? Give me details." Zoey tried to act excited to displace the awkwardness and weirdness she felt.
"Our moms work together so Rebecca heard about PCA so we met a bunch this summer so I could tell her about how awesome this place is and one thing led to another and we started dating."
"Oh, so sweet. Well, nice meeting you Rebecca, but I better get going. You two can uh get back to what you were doing." Zoey said awkwardly.
"Wait, Zoey, did you need something?" Chase asked.
"Oh, no, I just had a question I couldn't figure out, but I realized the answer like two seconds after I walked in. Later."
"Bye Zoey." Chase, still standing beside her gave her a quick side hug in farewell and Zoey left the room.
Zoey shook her head to try to clear her thoughts before she started power walking away from the guys' dorm. Eventually she ran into Quinn and Lola again.
"So? What did Chase want to talk about?" Lola asked, she still had the same annoying grin from before.
"You're wrong, Chase is not in love with me. His big news is that he has a girlfriend."
"Are you sure? And just to be clear it's not you?" Quinn asked.
"Yeah I'm pretty sure I just walked in on them in the middle of making out!"
"What?" Both Lola and Quinn practically screeched.
"Oh yeah, they were kissing."
"Are you a thousand percent sure they were kissing?" Lola asked.
"Oh yeah, either that or Chase was trying to suck the teeth out of her mouth."
"What did he say?" Quinn asked.
"He said, this is Rebecca, my girlfriend."
"I don't like her." Lola declared.
"What's to like?" Quinn added.
"You don't even know her."
"You're our friend, so we can just automatically hate her." Lola explained.
"Look, I appreciate your pointless hatred of Chase's girlfriend, but its really not necessary."
"So you're ok with Chase having a girlfriend?" Quinn asked.
"Sure, why wouldn't I be?"
"Because Chase is in love with you!" Lola shouted.
"Obviously not, we're just friends. Remember?"
"And you're cool with that?" Quinn asked her again.
"Sure it was a little awkward walking in on them like that, but its fine. I think its great that Chase has a girlfriend."
"Is it really Zoey? You didn't feel anything?" Quinn kept asking more and more questions.
"No!" Yes. Zoey felt something but she was just confused about everything going on. This was different than when Lola and Chase dated for a week. Not that she was jealous then either, that would be ridiculous. It was just different. Lola and Quinn continued to pester her with questions so when they stopped to grab coffee, Zoey quickly ran away in the opposite direction.
So what if Chase had a girlfriend? Zoey had been on plenty of dates before and it had never hurt their friendship. It just proved that Zoey was right and Quinn and Lola were wrong. She was happy for Chase, she really was. Besides even if everyone else was convinced Chase was in love with her, no one seemed to care whether she liked him or not, which she didn't. Not like that. She was completely one hundred percent fine with Chase dating, now that the shock was wearing off she couldn't wait to get to know her better.
"Talk to me." Michael demanded while he and Chase were playing pool and Logan was failing to shoot any baskets in the trash can.
"About?" Chase asked, focusing more on his shot at the moment.
"Come on man, last year a week before summer vacation you send Zoey a text message saying you love her, and now you show up to school with a new girlfriend? Talk."
Chase stood up and leaned on his pool stick. "OK Look, you know how they say somethings happen for a reason?"
"I've heard that said." Michael nodded his head.
"Well maybe it was something, the universe, karma, the Lord, the Force. Something is trying to tell me that Zoey and I are meant to be really good friends. And that's all."
"You sure on that?"
"Yeah, I mean, look at it like this, a guy's gonna have a lot of girlfriends in his life right?"
"That is certainly my intention." Michael nodded again.
"Well, I don't want Zoey to be just another one of those girls I date for a few months, or even a few years and then its over. I want Zoey to be my best friend for a really long time. You know what I'm saying?"
"Yeah, I know what you're saying." Michael said, looking offended. "I just thought I was your best friend but if I've been replaced by Zoey-"
"Dude, Zoey's my girl best friend, you're still number one man."
"That's all I wanted to hear." Michael's pout turned into a smile and he threw his arms around Chase in a hug.
"Dude, you're insane."
"You're insane best friend. So what was it like when Zoey walked in on you two kissing?"
"Honestly the most awkward and scariest moment of my life. I just tried to act like everything was normal, and I of course tried to explain what was going on to both of them. Thankfully Zoey sounded like she liked her, and Rebecca said she liked Zoey, so that's good."
"And was the awkwardness and fear because it was Zoey?"
"No, I'm pretty sure I'd be just as embarrassed if it had been you or Logan. Well, maybe a little worse since we kept getting interrupted. I wanted to tell Zoey before she met Rebecca face to face, so that was probably the worst way they could have met, but I think it turned out well, given the circumstances."
"If you say so."
Logan scoffed at them. "Why are you acting like it's a big deal? Like half the time girls will walk up to me to try to get a second date from me while I'm making out my new girl. You know it's a really good way to let old girl know I'm a one time offer."
"Thanks for you opinion Logan, you know I really missed your wise words over the summer." Chase said sarcastically.
"He does have a point, well, sort of." Michael shook his head. "You didn't feel anything about Zoey when she walked in, or when you first saw her today?"
"No, look this will make my life so much easier, because I'll have Rebecca as my girlfriend, and Zoey will always be my best friend so I don't need to stress out about worrying if Zoey likes me or not since I know that will never happen and isn't meant to happen.
"Your Zoey thoughts? Just what are these Zoey thoughts?"
"Nothing anymore, I'm over Zoey, trust me, Rebecca's great."
"Personally Chase, you have a lot of talk, but I'll believe it when I see it. But good for you for moving on. I hope Rebecca makes you happy."
"Oh yeah she does. So have you seen Lisa yet since you got back?"
"No, I've been too busy earning MY single bed. We're planning on getting sushi tonight. Do you two want to join?"
"Sure, I'd love to catch up and introduce Rebecca to you. She really is the best man."
"UGH!" Logan growled as the ball bounced off the edge of the trashcan. "What is wrong with me?"
"How much time do you have?" Chase joked.
"Very funny. This trash can is just not the right size or something."
"Oh yeah? Pass it over." Michael said.
Logan passed the ball and Michael swished it into the trash can with one hand.
"Whatever, I'm going outside to the courts." Logan grabbed the ball and stomped out.
Zoey was working on some homework in her dorm, Lola was just leaving to do some laundry when Rebecca knocked on the door. "You guys busy?" She asked.
"Nope." Zoey said with a smile,
"Hey Rebecca, come on in." Lola happily greeted her as she walked out the door. After eating lunch and seeing how nice she was, both Quinn and Lola had cooled their pointless hatred of her on Zoey's behalf, which she was thankful for.
"Wow, awesome room."
"Thanks."
"Did you paint that?" Rebecca asked, pointing at one of the many paintings and photos hanging above Zoey's bed.
"I wish." Zoey laughed. "My dad got that for me when he was in Vancouver."
"Ahh." Rebecca said, looking around a bit awkwardly, and fidgeted with her phone a bit.
"Hey did Chase hear from that guy at Toon Juice yet?" Zoey asked.
"No, not yet, but I know they're gonna say yes, Chase and Michael are so talented."
"I know, their toons rock." Zoey nodded her head.
"Yeah." Rebecca nodded. "Anyways, speaking of Chase, I hear you guys are really close friends. Rebecca said, smiling as she sat down beside Zoey on her bed."
"Oh yeah, Chase is like the best guy friend I've ever had." Zoey agreed taking a drink of her Blix.
"Yeah, well, not anymore." Rebecca said, her friendly demeanor disappeared in an instant along with her smile that rapidly turned into a glare.
"What do you mean?" Zoey asked, genuinely confused.
"Stay away from Chase."
"What?"
"Did I stutter? I said stay away from him. We clear? Good." Rebecca ordered, as she stood up.
"OK listen-" Zoey tried to explain whatever Rebecca thought was going on wasn't true at all, but Rebecca wasn't hearing it.
"No! I'm talking, and you're listening. You've been at PCA with Chase for two years. You had your chance."
"Um look, I don't know who you think you are but-"
"I think, I'm Chase's girlfriend, and you're not. So leave him alone and stay out of my way!" Rebecca marched back out of Zoey's room.
Zoey, was speechless but her mind was racing, was this about how everyone thought Chase had a crush on her? First Lola and Quinn, and now Rebecca. She thought about explaining whatever she thought must be going on was wrong. Obviously if Chase was dating Rebecca she had nothing to worry about. She couldn't focus on her homework anymore so she started pacing the room.
She didn't have to give up Chase, did she? He was her best friend. But if Rebecca made him happy… This is all just some misunderstanding, either Rebecca was misunderstanding something or Zoey was because she had no clue what she was thinking.
Lola and Quinn eventually came back and pretty soon they were all pacing along with her.
"I don't understand, what happened?" Quinn asked again.
"Rebecca told Zoey to stay away from Chase!" Lola yelled.
"Get out!"
"I'm serious!" Zoey said back.
"I don't believe it, she seemed so nice." Quinn said.
"Yeah, so do panda bears until they slice you up with their claws and eat your guts!" Zoey practically growled.
"Do pandas really do that?" Lola asked.
"Yes."
"But they're so cute."
"So's Rebecca, but that didn't stop her from coming in here and basically threatening my life!"
"So what did Rebecca say exactly?" Quinn asked.
"I don't know, something like I better leave Chase alone and stay out of her way."
"Ugh, that's so…nervy!" Lola grumbled.
"I know! What am I gonna do?" Zoey asked, sitting on her bed.
"Well, for starters tell Chase his girlfriend's a psycho." Lola suggested.
"Or I could take care of her." Quinn pulled something silver and dangerous looking that glowed from one end.
"OK, we aren't going to use whatever that thing is on Rebecca." Zoey raised her hands to stop her, even though she was a little curious to see just what the thing could do, and would love to see Quinn use Rebecca as a test subject, but she obviously wouldn't really do that.
"Don't worry its not lethal."
"Quinn!"
"Fine." Quinn hid her Quinnvention back in her closet.
"And I can't just tell Chase that his girlfriend's crazy, if he likes her, he should be able to go out with her. I can't get in the way of them if she makes him happy."
"Come on Zoey, you make him happy. And I don't even mean about our love theory-"
"Which I still think is totally true." Quinn interrupted.
"Maybe." Lola sighed.
"You two are best friends, don't you think he would choose you over her in a heartbeat?" Quinn changed course since nothing else seemed to be winning Zoey over so far.
"No, I won't make him choose between us, what kind of friend would I be if I did that? It would mean I was just as nervy as Rebecca. And his best friend or his girlfriend that he can make out with whenever he wants, he's a guy! Who do you think he's going to choose? I'll…I'll stay away from Chase then. It will make things easier for everyone."
"Or…" Quinn suggested.
"No Quinnventions or lasers or chemicals or explosives or anything." Zoey shot her down.
"Fine."
"Zoey you don't have to do this." Lola told her.
"I'm being a good friend, I won't get in the way. I'll do anything for Chase, and if Rebecca makes him happy."
"Zoey," Lola sighed, "what about what makes you happy?"
"No, I'll stay away from Chase. I won't ruin his relationship." Zoey just laid down on her bed and tried to go to sleep, even after Quinn and Lola shut off the lights and went to bed, she couldn't escape to dreamland. She was confident in her decision even though she hated even thinking about it. Finally, after midnight she finally drifted off into sleep.
A few days later Zoey was walking through the girls' lounge when Chase all but ran into her, looking super excited about something. "Zoey!" Chase yelled, "Have you seen Rebecca?"
"No, I haven't, But listen, we need to talk." Zoey started, every word feeling like a piece of glass in her throat, but Chase wasn't really listening, he was too excited.
"You know that cartoon me and Michael made?"
"Yeah."
"Toon Juice said yes!" Chase couldn't contain his grin.
"No way!"
"Yes way, its going up on their site next Monday!"
"Wow! That's so great!" Zoey couldn't help her excitement and extended her arms in a hug that Chase happily returned, it was only once he was holding her that she remembered Rebecca's words, so she pulled away quickly. She won't ruin Chase's relationship. But she already missed him so much and it had only been a few days that she had been trying to stay away. She hadn't even sat by him in any of their classes, instead always sitting beside Lola or Quinn, and she tried to avoid his gaze but it was already so difficult. She had been studying in the library during lunch to avoid him and Rebecca eating at their table with everyone else. She hadn't talked to Chase since the first day they ate lunch together and Rebecca had met everyone else.
Any time she was near Rebecca she could always feel her glare hitting the back of her head, that she somehow managed to always hide from Chase whenever they were together. Zoey just tried to ignore it, but Lola and Quinn would usually glare right back, and Zoey had to stop Quinn from using her zap watch a few times. The fact that she couldn't talk to Chase made her want to talk to him even more, but she made herself stay away, every second that she avoided him felt like an hour.
"What's wrong?" Chase asked, he knew her too well.
"Well, uh…Nothing." He's too happy, I'll talk to him later. She thought to herself.
"OK, I gotta go tell Rebecca, I'll talk to you later." Chase ran off.
Zoey sighed to herself, this was the hardest thing she had ever done, but she could make it work. If Rebecca made Chase happy, that was good enough for her. Even if that was his last smile and hug she ever received from him, as long as he was still smiling with Rebecca she would be OK. Even if even the thought of never seeing Chase everyday was enough to break her heart.
Chase spent the next fifteen minutes running all over campus searching for Rebecca, and he finally found her walking past the basketball courts. "Rebecca!" He shouted out.
She looked up from her phone, smiled and waved as he sprinted over.
"There you are!"
"Here I am." Rebecca giggled.
"You said you would be in the lounge."
"I was just on my way, what's up?"
"Come here." Chase pulled her over beneath some nearby trees. "Guess what!"
"My/Your cartoon got accepted by !" They both yelled in unison.
"I told you it would." Rebecca spread her arms and moved closer for a hug, Chase happily returned it. "That is so awesome." But Chase could feel her stiffen as she pulled away. "Why do you smell like perfume?"
"What?" Chase took a whiff of his shirt. He recognized it immediately and couldn't stop his grin, it was honestly still one of his favorite smells, it always made him happy. That wasn't weird was it? Of course not, Zoey was his best friend, she always made him happy. "Oh its probably from Zoey, I just told her and she hugged me. Can you believe-"
"Wait wait wait, you told Zoey before you told me?" Rebecca interrupted him.
"Well what? Is that bad?" Chase was confused as to why her entire demeanor just changed.
"I can't believe you told Zoey first!" Rebecca shouted.
"Well I was looking for you, you said you'd be in the lounge but you weren't, I just happened to run into Zoey." Chase hurried to explain.
"And you just had to tell her your big news before you told me? Your girlfriend?"
"Look I think you're making way too big a deal about this."
"I don't want you talking to Zoey anymore." Rebecca snapped, cutting him off.
"What?"
"Ever again." Rebecca was leveling the full power of her glare on him, but he just felt confused.
"Rebecca. You think you can tell me who I can and can't talk to?"
"You heard what I said."
"I can't believe you."
"Look, Chase. I talked to some people around here, I know you used to like Zoey. Is that true or not?"
"I'm over it." Chase claimed, but those words felt like he had to choke it out to even say them.
"Good, because I'm your girlfriend now. You can't be all buddy-buddy with the girl you used to like."
Chase was speechless.
"Now go tell Zoey you can't be friends with her anymore!" Rebecca ordered.
"Rebecca? I'm with you, you're my girlfriend, you don't have to worry about anything happening with Zoey, we're just friends."
"Really? I loved hearing all your stories of PCA this summer but literally every single one all you talk about is Zoey! Zoey this, Zoey that! I had so much fun with Zoey! I thought you were cute from the day we met, but it took me like three weeks to figure out that you weren't even dating her! I like you Chase, and as long as you are dating me, you can't just hug other girls whenever you feel like it!"
"Look Rebecca, did I have a crush on Zoey? Yes, but she's my best friend and I know she doesn't like me that way, that's why I never told her, and I am fine being friends. That's why I'm dating you."
"But you tried didn't you? I know how you cheated on a test to try to go to a dance with her. That's just the most common story I've heard around here, but I've heard plenty of others!"
"And I failed miserably and she hated me for a day or two. That got me no closer to her than anything else since she thought I was a jerk for doing that. But that is all in the past."
"What so I'm your rebound?"
"No, that's not what I meant. Look I know me and Zoey will never date because she doesn't see me like that."
"Then why did she give you a hug?"
"Because we always do that? We all do that around here trust me. Don't make it weird or a big deal. Heck, me and Michael probably hug at least once a day."
"Look Chase, its either me, your girlfriend, or Zoey, now go tell that skank you aren't allowed talk to her anymore. I already gave her a warning but I can smell the evidence that she can't keep her hands off you."
"Hey don't disrespect Zoey! Chase said, his voice finally hardening with anger. "And she didn't have her hands on me, it was just a hug!"
"Why should I respect her if she doesn't respect me? Like you should be respecting me. If you chose me over Zoey to be your girlfriend then go tell her that you chose me over her and you can't see her anymore."
"Are you really going to make me choose Rebecca, you or Zoey? Why would you do that?"
"I'm not going to just wait around for her to steal you away from me. Or try to sneak behind my back! I'll even go with you and tell her off again for the both of us. Trust me Chase, this will make you happier in the long run."
"You know what Rebecca, you are right about one thing, I should do what I know will make me happier in the long run. Rebecca, I'm breaking up with you." Chase said without a moment's hesitation.
"What? I'm your girlfriend, you said you chose me over Zoey!"
"No I didn't. I want Zoey to be in my life for a long time, and I thought I could do that by dating you. I'm sorry, but nothing will ever keep me away from Zoey. She's my best friend and honestly, I care about her a lot more than I care about you. She doesn't have a problem with us dating, but it you have a problem with us being friends, then I can't date you."
"Chase don't walk away from me. The only reason I'm at this school is because of you!"
"I'm sorry Rebecca, we're over."
"Fine go running back to Zoey! This was probably a big plan of hers from the start to make me look like the bad guy to make us break up!"
"Don't be ridiculous. Zoey would never do anything like that to you. Plus she had literally no reason to hate you until you tried to keep us away from each other!"
"You really think so? After she just stormed in us kissing? She's been jealous of me since the moment we met since I have you."
"That could not be further from the truth. Zoey does not like me that way, but you can believe whatever you want. Nothing will change my mind."
"Where are you going?"
"To talk to Zoey and apologize for whatever it is you said to her!" Chase stormed off, heading back to the lounge. He needed to find Zoey and clear up whatever mess Rebecca had made.
Zoey was working on her laptop in the lounge when Chase slowly walked up behind her. "Oh, hey Chase." She said, carefully trying to guard her features and emotions.
"Can I talk to you?" Chase asked softly.
"Umm… I'm not sure that's the best-"
"I need to talk to you." Chase interrupted her and sat on the couch beside her. "Rebecca has a big problem with you and me being friends."
"I know. Did you explain to her that we're just friends?"
'Yeah."
"And she said?"
"That if I want her to be my girlfriend, I can't hang out with you anymore. Or…or talk to you."
"OK, I get it." Zoey fought to control her tears, and the shaking of her voice. "The most important thing to me is that...that you're happy." Here it comes, we can't be friends anymore. This is goodbye. Zoey thought to herself, her heart felt like it was breaking in two, but she had to stay strong.
"Me too…So I dumped her." Chase said, a smile returning to his face.
Zoey's eyes lit back up, and she could feel her own smile start to return, but she couldn't believe that Chase would choose her over his girlfriend. Her heart had been feeling so heavy all week was suddenly felt lighter than air.
"Yeah, dumped, as in see ya!"
"Oh my god, was she really upset?"
"Uh huh." Chase nodded.
"Good that little skunk bag." Zoey smirked.
"Zoey Brooks, such language." Chase said, fake offended.
"She was horrible."
"Yeah, I kinda figured that out. Can I have a grape?"
"One." Zoey allowed him to grab one from her bowl.
"I promise Zo, no one could ever keep me away from you. But why didn't you say anything?"
"I wanted you to be happy and I wasn't going to be horrible like her and force you to choose. I was hoping either she would make you happy or you'd figure out what she's really like and break up soon, but if you didn't I would have done whatever made you happy."
"You make me happy Zoe, you always have and I hope you always will."
"I know, you always make me happy too." Zoey agreed, then socked him in the arm.
"Ow! What was that for?"
"That was for scaring me, I thought you were going to say we couldn't be friends anymore."
"I told you I dumped her." Chase said, rubbing his arm.
"Well you should have started with that."
Chase shook his head, "You know that will never happen. You know what? Let's make a pact. Whenever you get a boyfriend, or the next time I get a girlfriend, let's promise to never let it affect our friendship, because you are way too important to me Zoey, I will never give you up for some random girl."
"Deal, I never want to give you up either." Zoey grabbed a grape and threw it at his forehead.
"Ow! You could have poked an eye out."
"That's the goal." Zoey laughed for the first time all day. Her Chase was back. She grabbed another bunch of grapes and kept tossing.
"Oh the grape war is on!" Chase grabbed a bunch of grapes too and before long they were both running all over the lounge, locked in combat. Oblivious to the other people around them. Until nearly fifteen minutes later, their bowl of grapes was finally empty. They both sat back on the couch, still giggling with each other with only a few inches separating them.
"Wait a minute, I just realized, I haven't seen you nearly all week. Were you really trying to avoid me?"
"Yeah, because of you know who."
"Wait a minute, Voldemort's back?"
"Very funny."
"Don't worry, I've already forgotten all about her. I will never speak her name again. I know you said you wanted me to be happy, but I would never be happy again if I knew you were miserable." Chase promised.
"Thanks Chase, I feel the exact same way." Zoey reached out and hugged him.
"Well well well, I shouldn't be surprised." Rebecca's voice sounded behind them and they both turned around. "I hope you're happy Chase came crawling back to you Zoey."
"Rebecca, if you want to keep making everything a big deal, just go. Zoey will always be my friend. We could have still been happy together but you're the one that started everything, or heck you could have talked to me and let me explain, but you went behind my back and tried to hurt my best friend. This is all on you."
"Rebecca, believe whatever you want, but I was going to step aside because I thought you could make Chase happier than I could, I know I was wrong now, but this is all on you for being so nervy."
"So let me guess, now you're finally dating? Did you only notice him once he had me as girlfriend? Skank."
"Rebecca we aren't dating. Despite what you and everyone else thinks, we're just friends." Chase said. "And don't talk about Zoey like that!"
"What you mean you haven't proposed to the most important person in your life yet?" Rebecca demanded sarcastically.
"Rebecca just stop. Or Zoey, want to go somewhere else?"
"Sure, let's head back to my room." Zoey stood up to leave.
"Well Zoey, did you know Chase has been keeping a secret from you?"
"Rebecca, what are you doing?" Chase asked nervously.
"He's been in love with you for the past two years, but he's always been too scared to tell you."
Zoey shook her head, exasperated, "Please Rebecca, believe whatever you want. Apparently that's been a rumor since forever, but it obviously isn't true. I don't blame Chase, like he said, he gave you up for our friendship, nothing else. Right Chase?"
Zoey turned back to him to see Chase had gone completely white. "Chase what's wrong?"
"See, he's terrified of you. I hope he's right and your friendship is messed up now. Sweet dreams Chase, I hope the bedbugs do bite tonight." Rebecca continued to glare at them as she walked out of the lounge.
Zoey just glared right back at her as she walked out to the hallway. "Its fine Chase. I know she's just as crazy as everyone else, in fact Lola and Quinn were convinced you wanted to talk to me the day we got back to tell me you were in love with me too. Can you believe that?" Zoey chuckled.
"Um…uh…about that…um it's….kinda no its totally true."
"What?" Zoey's heart sped up again.
"I'm sorry but its true, I've been in love with you since the day we met, and something just clicked with us and we became best friends. I was terrified of ever doing anything to mess that up because I can't picture my life without you in it. I'm sorry, I know you only see me as a friend, but I tried, I really did. The whole reason I even started dating Rebecca was to try to get over you, but I can't get you out of my heart, and while I did have fun hanging out and talking with Rebecca the moment she tried to keep me away from you, I knew we were over. I know you only see me as a friend, I don't expect you to like me that way. I-I'll just go." Chase said and rush but then turned away, but Zoey grabbed his wrist.
"Wait Chase. So you know how I said Lola and Quinn tried to convince me you were in love with me?"
"Yeah."
"Well I just stayed in denial, and it was easy because no one ever asked me if I was in love with you or not, and I found you two, you know… and it…fine being totally honest with you, that hurt for no logical reason and then Rebecca came and forced me to stay away, and then I decided to follow her orders if it made you happy, but my heart was fighting me every single time I kept from looking at you or sitting with you at lunch or trying not to talk to you. Its been the most painful thing I've ever done, but I did it for you. I can't deny my heart any longer. I love you too Chase."
"Do you mean it? Because I don't want you to just say it for me."
"Chase." Zoey interrupted him, "I mean it with my entire being." Zoey leaned closer, and Chase seemed to be reading her mind because he was too. They met in the middle for a tender kiss that Zoey swore felt like sparks were flying. When they broke away, they both were grinning like mad.
"That was…amazing Zoey but look, being totally honest, the number one reason I never told you and then I started dating Rebecca is because I want you in my life for a long time, preferably forever. I don't want us to date for a little while and then break up and then we never see each other again or something because we do something stupid that makes us hate each other.
"I can understand that, it's a good thing we have our pact." Zoey smiled.
"What?"
"Remember that? We made like 20 minutes ago? Whenever we get boyfriends and girlfriends we don't let it ruin our friendship. That can still apply to us, you will always be my best friend Chase, and I want to try having you as my boyfriend if you want to."
"Yes. I want to more than anything. I mean, yes absolutely. Not that I could ever imagine breaking up with you, but just, you know what, I'll stop talking."
"Don't worry Chase I know we won't ever let anything divide our friendship. I agree that this is a risk, but it's a risk I want to take. With you, and only you."
"Zoey, I love you."
"I love you too Chase."
"You have no idea how long I've waited to hear those words."
"I can only imagine, want to walk me back to my room?"
"It would be my pleasure."
"You know what?" Zoey asked as they were walking through the halls.
"What is it Zoe?"
"I think we should tell Rebecca she was right."
"Why?"
"Because, I want to show her how I've felt all week."
"What do you have in mind?"
"This." Zoey smirked as they stopped in front of Rebecca's open door. "Hey Rebecca, thank you, you were right about us all along." Zoey leaned closer to Chase and pressed her lips to his, sparks once again flew, and hearing Rebecca growl of anger only brightened Zoey's smile even more. But it didn't matter to her. The important thing was that Chase was back, and for the first time ever, he was all hers.
