AN: Probably should have started with this one, but 23 chapters later here it is. ;)
Welcome To PCA
Zoey jumped out of her dad's car and glanced around everywhere, eyes full of excitement at seeing everything. She was finally here, at Pacific Coast Academy. After she first saw it at the beginning of the school year when she helped her little brother Dustin move in for the first time, she had wanted to go to school here more than anything. Once it was announced that PCA would allow girls to attend, she had begged her parents for three weeks straight until they agreed. So now here she finally was.
Her dad walked over to a nearby building to get her and Dustin checked in and hopefully figure out where she had to go next, while Dustin started unpacking the car. He never gave up any chance to show off his macho ten year old strength. So for the moment, Zoey just tried to take everything in.
Chase was riding his bike through campus, he and his best friend Michael had already moved all their stuff into their room, and then Logan's moving team showed up, so Chase decided to take sometime by himself to get some fresh air riding around the campus that was quickly growing more and more crowded with everyone moving in.
But as he rode up to the main drop-off spot, he suddenly saw her standing there, and whatever he was thinking about before completely left his head. It was a blonde-haired girl wearing a light pink sweater and a blue skirt, she's pretty, was his initial thought but something about her, Chase couldn't look away as he pedaled his way steadily closer.
"Hey!"
Zoey turned towards a voice to see a kid riding his bike towards her and waving with a big, kind of cute smile on his face.
"Hey!" She waved back.
He kept his eyes focused on her as he kept pedaling until he suddenly ran straight into a nearby flagpole. "Ahh!" Falling off his bike and to the ground with the flag falling over his shoulders.
Zoey ran up to him and extended her hand to help him up. "Are you OK?"
"Um, yeah." He grabbed her hand, and Zoey looked down into his green eyes, they both seemed to freeze for a moment, just staring at each other for some reason before the moment ended and then tried to shake it off like nothing happened.
The kid quickly stood up with her assistance, and after a few tries managed to pull the purple and blue PCA flag off his shoulders. "Just uh, just checking the flag, it's a flag." He smiled awkwardly at her, probably a bit embarrassed.
"Um, I think your arm's bleeding." Zoey pointed out.
"Oh yeah." The kid glanced down at his elbow. "Yeah, that's what happens when, uh when I get wounded."
Zoey giggled for a moment before introducing herself. "I'm Zoey."
"Chase." Chase pointed at himself. "So are you like a new student here at PCA?" Chase slapped his helmet. "OK that was a stupid question, why else would you be here? I guess you could be you know dropping someone off or…You know what? I'll bleed, you talk." Chase tried to joke. "What's up?"
"Um, nothing much. And yeah, I'm a new student here." Zoey smiled at him.
"Cool, I…I think it's great that PCA is finally letting in girls, and uh, you probably did too. Seeing as you're a girl and all. No offense."
"It's ok, I'm used to it. Been a girl my whole life." Zoey joked.
"Right same with me. I mean, obviously, I've been a boy my whole life. Yeah." Chase smiled a bit awkwardly for a moment before Zoey's dad walked back up to her, holding a map.
"OK, I got a map, just uh, your dorm is Butler Hall, I'm just not sure where it is." Zoey's dad said, turning the map in his hands in every direction, trying to get oriented to where they were until he finally noticed Chase. "Hello?"
"Hi." Chase waved.
"Dad this is Chase. Chase, this is my dad." Zoey introduced them.
"Nice to meet you…sir." Chase sounded a bit nervous for some reason before turning back to Zoey. "You know, I uh, I pass by Butler on the way to my dorm, and if you wanted me to walk you there…?"
Zoey smiled at him and was about to accept but her dad interrupted her.
"No, that's not ah, that's um…" seeing Zoey's pleading face he finally relented. "That would be great. Sure um, I'll just take Dustin to his dorm then…" he trailed off a bit and he and Zoey just looked at each other, if possible making Chase feel even more awkward.
"I'll just um, turn around." he offered and spun himself around he was thankful for the excuse to try to get his thoughts in order, his heart was beating a million miles a minute, and his brain felt all jumbled, not from the fall, but from something else.
Her dad pulled Zoey into a tight hug that she eagerly returned. "Take care of yourself ok?" He whispered and then kissed her forehead.
"Dad." Zoey smiled up at him when they separated, he finally went back to help Dustin after another long moment. Zoey knew she might get a little homesick but she was still way too excited right now. "You can turn around now."
"Oh right." Chase turned around and grinned at her. "Need any help with your stuff?"
"Sure."
Chase and Zoey walked back to the car to grab all her stuff and Chase started giving her the grand tour of PCA, walking his bike along beside her.
"And over there's the science building, where they have science classes. And there's the library, I hear they got some books in there." Chase joked. "And let's see," Chase started pointing out buildings rapid fire. "Cafeteria, auditorium, Jim."
"That's the gym?" Zoey asked, the building he pointed at didn't look big enough to be a gym to her.
"Oh no that's my bud Jim. Sup Jim?" Chase called out and a kid in a green T-shirt waved back.
"Sup Jim?" Zoey waved too. "I like Jim."
"Yeah, Jim's good people." Chase agreed, "And right over here is Butler Hall." Chase continued to lead the way.
After getting her room key and her room assignment, and Chase parking his bike outside, he led her through the halls in her dorm without any trouble until they stopped at her door.
"Room 101, here we go."
Zoey couldn't believe her eyes, the dorm had so much space, and already came with a couch to hang out with friends with, painted a pretty shade of purple, Zoey had worried the rooms would be flat white walls without character, but it was more beautiful than she could have dreamed. and a large window with a marvelous view.
"Wow! This is my room? Oh my God! I can see the ocean from here!" Zoey ran to look out the window.
"And even more important, your own mini fridge!" Chase announced excitedly.
"Wow!" Zoey smiled, Chase cracked open the fridge and they glanced inside. Zoey pulled out a Ziploc bag from inside. "And a sandwich, from 1988," she grimaced.
"Uh oh!" Chase swiped it from her hand and threw the sandwich out the window like a grenade. "Get Down!"
He ducked himself down to the floor and pretended to shield Zoey's head before standing up again, looking proud of himself. "That was close." He wiped some imaginary sweat off his brow.
"My hero." Zoey raised her hand over her heart and laughed at him.
"Well, I better get going. Oh, and be careful." Chase warned her.
"Why be careful?"
"Well it's the first day of school, a lot of kids like to pull pranks."
Zoey noticed something and glanced out the window before pointing with a smile on her face. "Like hanging your bike from a tree?"
"Huh?" Chase turned to look out the window too. "Aww Man! Put that down you little freaks!" Chase yelled, but the pranksters just ignored him.
"I got to go! Later Zoey!" He ran out the room before returning two seconds later. "Oh and I almost forgot to say, Welcome to PCA!"
"Go save your bike." Zoey shook her head at him as he finally ran off again. She knew this semester was going to be great, and she already made a new friend, and he was kind of cute. She was about to start unpacking when she heard a terrifying scream coming from down the hall so she ran to go see what the problem was.
After Chase got his bike down from the tree he made his way back to his own dorm, this time without running into any flagpoles. But he still had no idea what had just happened. For some reason, he couldn't stop himself from grinning like a lunatic, and in his head all he could think about was Zoey.
He made it back to his dorm, both Logan and Micheal were just chilling, breaking in the new flatscreen TV Logan had just gotten delivered.
Chase walked in and Michael quickly noticed he had something going on. "Yo Chase, what has you so smiley?"
Chase sat next to him on their couch. "Dude you won't believe what just happened, See, I was riding my bike, and the most beautiful girl I've ever seen stepped out of her dad's car right in front of me!"
"Oh, so did you talk to her? Or were you too busy tripping over yourself?" Michael joked.
"Yeah I did, well, first I hit a flagpole and fell on my face, but I talked to her, and there's something about her man, she's so pretty, but I even more than that, I can't stop thinking about her."
"So what did you say to her Romeo?" Michael elbowed him in the side appreciatively.
"I uh welcomed her to PCA, after we established I bleed when I get wounded, and asked if she was a new student, surprise, surprise she is and I thanked her for being a girl. Her name's Zoey. And then I led her on a tour of campus and to her dorm room. It was so much fun."
"OK, how did half of that come up in conversation?" Michael raised an eyebrow.
"I don't know man, just something about her, I saw her, hit the ground, and then I got butterflies in my stomach and my heart started racing and my palms got sweaty. I've never felt this way before."
"Oh I get it, you've got a crush. My little boy's all grown up." Michael wiped a fake tear away from his eye.
"Um yeah, I think I do." Chase blushed.
"I know, it's great we finally have babes to look at around here." Logan added from where he was seated on his bed. "Once school starts it'll be open season for Logan Reese."
"I'm not you Logan, I'm not planning on having a new girlfriend every week. Unlike some people."
"Why would that possibly be a problem? That sounds awesome, in fact, I'm going to make that my goal this semester. Thanks for the idea Chase."
"So did you ask her out?" Michael asked.
"No, we just met, I can't just ask out a girl I just met, and she's so cool, and she's hilarious, and she laughs at my jokes too. Somehow, I think I made a good first impression even though I could barely think about anything since the moment I saw her."
"Man you got it bad. You should so ask her out dude."
"No way. I know I like her already, but it's way too soon. I know, I'll get to be her friend first, so hopefully, someday she'll like me too." Chase snapped his fingers as he made his decision.
"That sounds like so much wasted time, why not just ask her out? If she says no then just move on to the next girl, I mean we have over a hundred new babes to choose from. Even if Zoey says no to you, which I wouldn't be surprised, especially once she lays on the Loganator just move on to the next girl."
"You know what Logan, thank you for reminding me why I should never take your advice." Chase deadpanned.
"You'll come crawling back to me when in a month I'll have made out with at least twenty girls bare minimum, I guarantee it."
"I'm sure." Chase rolled his eyes.
"Hey it's almost time for basketball practice." Michael reminded his roommates. "Let's get to the courts."
"Oh hey, maybe now we'll finally have cheerleaders to cheer me on at games. Chase maybe you should get Zoey to join, if she's as hot as you're saying she is, I bet she'd make a great cheerleader."
"Logan I didn't say she's hot."
"So what you're saying is she isn't hot?"
"Well, no. But…don't put words in my mouth, unlike you I recognize girls as more than just lips to kiss, if I want a girlfriend I also want her to be my best friend you know?"
"Gross, I don't want to be your girlfriend! You're not my type, your hair is way too bushy for me." Michael joked.
"Don't worry dude you'll always be number one, I mean like a girl best friend."
"That is if Zoey doesn't steal him away from you Michael, but it sounds like she already has." Logan teased him.
"Oh no way. Chase is my best friend, no one could ever possibly replace me. Right Buddy?" Michael threw his arm over Chase's shoulder.
"Of course, you know what, enough about me, let's just get to practice." Chase stood up to change into his shorts and a few minutes later they left to go to the basketball courts.
Later that day, Coach Zipse called an end to their first practice. "Alright everyone bring it in!" he called out and all the guys huddled up around him. "Now remember, tryouts are this Saturday, see you then." He said before walking off.
All the guys were about to head to the locker room when Chase couldn't believe his eyes, Zoey walked up to all of them out of nowhere. Chase couldn't help but wonder if she thought he looked cute since he was all sweaty, or if she thought he just looked gross.
"Hi guys." Zoey waved.
"Hey, what's up Zoey?" Chase waved back excitedly. OK, now that he admitted it to his roommates, he could admit it to himself, he didn't know what it was about her, but he had it bad.
"What are they doing here?" Logan asked, but he didn't sound nearly as happy as Chase.
"Thinking about trying out for basketball," Zoey answered, still smiling.
Chase thought That would be awesome if Zoey joined the team. It would give us an excuse to hang out and get to know each other better.
"Ha ha ha." Logan just laughed at her while he walked closer. "Well, you better think some more."
"Excuse me?"
"Uh ladies, it's really cute that you want to try out, but there's no girls' team at PCA."
"Then we'll try out for the guys' team," Zoey replied confidently, even though the brunette right next to her looked shocked at her statement.
"Yeah, it doesn't work that way. Sorry."
"What's the matter Logan? You got a problem with girls?" Chase asked with a smirk.
"No, they make great cheerleaders," Logan smirked over at Zoey again, looking her up and down. The action making both Chase and Zoey send him matching glares of anger and disgust.
"OK, Logan, tell you what. I'll round up my best five girls, and you round up your best five guys and we'll see who's better at basketball." Zoey crossed her arms, still nothing but confidence even though her friend was looking at her like she was crazy.
"You serious?" Logan challenged her.
"Zoey." Her friend whispered nervously.
"I'm serious!"
"Fine!"
"Good!"
"Friday?"
"Why not?"
"You're on!"
"See you here!"
"Want to make out?"
"No! Eww!" Zoey turned around with a face of total disgust, pulling her friend away along with her.
Logan just turned to the other guys with his signature cocky smirk on his face and took in a round of hi-fives from everyone else.
"What's wrong with you Chase?" Logan asked him when it was just him, Chase and Michael left as they made their way to the locker room.
"Why are you being a jerk to Zoey?"
"Oh, so that's your new little girlfriend? I totally see why you like her, she's smoking but her personality leaves something to be desired, I mean girls on the guys' basketball team, who ever heard of such a thing?" Logan shook his head in false pity.
"No Zoey is perfect. I can tell you that much."
"Well, she isn't very smart if she thinks a bunch of girls can beat us guys in a basketball game. Plus if she didn't want to make out with me, what makes you think she would want to kiss you? I mean, I'm me."
"You really expect a girl to like you when you act like a jerk to her? And who knows, we don't know anything about any of the new girls here, maybe some of them are good at basketball. Zoey sounded pretty confident."
"No, she sounded like she just didn't want to admit to me how hot I am."
"So who's gonna play with us on Friday?" Michael tried to change the subject, the way Chase was glaring daggers at Logan's head made him feel like they should move the conversation away from Zoey.
"I guess you, me, and Chase," Logan listed off, "obviously I'm the point guard and Erik and Jack were starters last year, so we'll go with them. There is no way those girls are going to win against us." Logan walked on ahead of them.
"You know," Michael whispered to Chase, nudging him with his elbow, "I can see why you like Zoey, you should ask her out."
"I can't just ask her out, I only met her like six hours ago. I don't want to act like Logan and make her hate me."
"Then don't act like Logan, and fine, get to know her a little bit, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you like her, you shouldn't wait too long. You don't want anyone else to make a move before you do."
"Whatever Michael, let's just hit the showers." Chase just tried to change the subject even though Zoey wouldn't leave his head no matter what he tried to do. He was both extremely happy that Zoey flat out refused Logan's attempt to make out with her, not that he was surprised since he was acting like a jerk, but it also gave him another reason that he should wait to make a move on Zoey. Obviously, she wasn't the kind of girl that would go out with just anyone. He had to wait until she really liked him first to even think about trying anything. So even though he felt like his game plan was set, he had to see her again.
Later that night. Chase knocked on the door to Room 101 and a few moments later, Zoey answered. "Oh hi, Chase."
"Hey Zoey, I saw your team practicing earlier, how'd it go?"
"You aren't just gathering intel for Logan are you?" Zoey raised an eyebrow.
"No, I promise, my lips are sealed, and I promise not all of us guys think the same way Logan does. I think it's great that girls are here."
"I know, I'm just messing with you." Zoey smiled, leaning against the door frame. Until a moment later her beautiful smile morphed into a frown. "As far as I can find, I think I'm the only girl at PCA who's played basketball before, in case you couldn't tell we spent most of tonight just me explaining how dribbling works, plus I was the only one who even got close to shooting a basket."
"Well, you still have two more days right?"
"I know that's what I keep telling my team but its not helping."
"You're not giving up are you?"
"No! Of course I'm not. We are going to beat Logan and prove we deserve to be here just as much as you guys do!"
Chase held up his hands in a placating gesture. "Hey remember I totally agree. I want you to be here too. I mean all of you girls to be here. Do you want my help?"
"Do you have a magic wand that can give us Michael Jordan's skills?"
"Nope, unfortunately I'm fresh out of those, you should have asked me last week. But also I wanted to check in with you again, I hope besides Logan your first day at PCA was good."
"Yeah it was, this place is the best, even with Logan." Zoey agreed, "besides anything Logan does, you more than make up for Chase, I know not all the guys are jerks like Logan because I met you today, thank you again for all your help."
"It was my pleasure, what are friends for? But seriously Zoey, if you ever need help with anything, just let me know."
"Thank you Chase, and you let me know if you need help with anything too. Now I'm afraid I have to go, me and my roommates are actually still in the middle of unpacking and decorating everything."
"Do you need any help with that?"
"I think we can manage but thanks for the offer." Zoey laughed. "Goodnight Chase."
"Goodnight Zoey." Chase walked back through the halls. Zoey closed the door behind her still with a smile on her face, but when she did finally turn back to the room, she screamed when she saw Nicole standing about five inches away from her right beside the door.
"What are you doing?" Zoey demanded, clutching her chest in shock.
"Who was that Zoey?"
"That was Chase, he's the guy I told you about that showed me the way to our dorm the first time."
"Wait a minute, was that the kid on the basketball team that waved to you? The one with really bushy hair?"
"Yeah, I guess his hair is pretty bushy." Zoey giggled.
"Good for you, he is cute." Nicole grinned at her.
"Yeah, he is, so what?"
"So what? You've known him for like half a day and he already came to your room to tell you goodnight!"
"Yeah and? Since you apparently heard everything he mostly came to apologize for Logan and offered us any help he can give."
"Even more proving my point."
"What point?"
"Isn't it obvious, I think Chase likes you."
"How can he like me? Like you've said I've only known him for half a day."
"Come on Zoey, I have read so many articles in Cheetah-Beat. I know all the signs that a guy likes a girl and from what you've told me Chase is showing you like all of them. Plus he's cute and unlike that hottie Logan from what you've said he's cute on the inside too. You should so ask him out."
"No way, even if you're right, which you aren't, we're just friends and we've only known each other for less than a day, I can't just ask him out."
"Why not, you're super cute Zoey, just wear an outfit like you made for me, Scissor Girl. I doubt he'd say no."
"Well, I am. It's my first day at a new school, I have more important things to do than finding a boyfriend, like focusing on the basketball game on Friday. Plus Nicole, it is getting pretty late, how about we just get ready for bed, so we're rested up for our practice tomorrow?"
"We have to practice again?" Nicole whined. "But we already got sweaty and gross once. Isn't that enough?"
"Yes we have to keep practicing, we only have two more days to go." Zoey reminded her.
Friday afternoon finally came and the guys were ready to play, and the girls…not so much. Zoey was still the only girl on their team that really knew what she was doing, but she refused to give up, she would prove to Logan and all the rest of the guys that girls belonged at PCA just as much as they did.
"OK, everyone!" Coach Zipse blew his whistle. "Welcome to the first ever PCA Guys vs Girls basketball game." Everyone clapped and cheered for a few moments. "We'll be playing two fifteen-minute halves OK? Let's get this game started."
"Zoey, play good." Chase smiled at her.
"You too." Zoey smiled back at him Zoey had even invited Chase to the rest of their practices, not that he could help much, but at least it gave her practice against him, plus every time they did anything together had been super fun so far. "Good luck," she held out her hand to shake Logan's since they were the two jumping for the ball.
"Don't need it." Logan arrogantly smirked at her.
Coach Zipse threw the ball in the air, and Logan managed to tip the ball to one of his teammates, and from the beginning, the guys pressed their advantage. Zoey and the other girls tried their hardest, but Zoey was the only one who could play at all, she played basketball at her old school so she had some skills, but not enough to play five-on-one. Zoey knew the other girls were trying their hardest, but since none of them had even shot a basket before this week, it was a long, difficult half for the girls' side.
The only one who managed to score at all was Zoey, who brought their grand total to 6 points before halftime, but they were being blown out of the water by the guys.
Right before halftime. Zoey was dribbling down the court and looking for an open pass when Logan lunged forward to try to steal the ball. They grappled over it together for a few moments as Logan tried to force a jump ball, until he elbowed her in the face, making her let go of the ball and fall back onto the hard black asphalt court.
"Ow!" She groaned holding her nose and feeling the wind get knocked out of her. She closed her eyes for a moment and when she opened them again, she saw Chase's busy hair blocking out the glare from the sun.
"Zoey, Are you OK?" Chase looked down at her worriedly.
"Uh." Zoey groaned, she tried to stand herself up but she felt a bit dizzy, Chase and Nicole both grabbed onto her arms and helped pull her back up. Zoey shook her head to try to clear it, and for some reason, she felt hyperaware of Chase's hand on her shoulder. She raised her hand to her sore nose and felt a trickle of blood flowing out. She glanced at her hand after a moment to see the red droplets and groaned even more. "That's not good."
"Alright, let's have a look at you." Coach Zipse walked up to her and checked over her head for any bumps from hitting the ground but didn't find any, plus he obviously noticed her bleeding nose.
"Sorry Z, you better watch where you're going." Logan grinned cockily at her.
In response, Zoey tried to lunge at Logan but Coach Zipse and Nicole held her back, while Chase felt a strong desire to follow Zoey's lead and give Logan some payback himself. Whether he did it as an accident or not, why would Logan make fun of Zoey for getting injured?
"Woah! Hey! Hey! Come on everyone back to your benches." Coach stood between the two teams and they made their way to their own benches, the girls looking defeated, Logan, Erik, and Jack acting excited about doing so well, bragging about the 22-6 score.
Chase glanced over at Michael, and at least he looked a little bit worried for Zoey, even though for whatever reason Chase felt so much worse. He knew it was just a bloody nose, hopefully, and Zoey should be perfectly fine, but he couldn't stop his worries as he glanced over at the girls, huddled around Zoey who held a tissue to her face.
"Logan." Chase crossed his arms in anger. "What was that? Why did you hurt Zoey?"
"It's not my fault, see this is why girls shouldn't play basketball, girls will get hurt and cry about it. Plus look at the score, obviously, I was right, we don't need any girls on our team."
"I completely disagree, but we're already kicking their butts so this next half do we have to keep running up the score?"
"Please, no way. I'm not going to hold myself back just to protect your little girlfriend's feelings. Plus with Zoey out of commission, the girls will probably all forfeit anyway."
"You're being a real jerk, you know that right?"
Logan was about to say something else when they both noticed Zoey marching back onto the court, the other girls following behind her much more slowly, but Chase could see her face and he knew there was no way Zoey was going to give up. He felt himself falling for her even more at her courage.
"Man, that chick doesn't know when to quit," Logan said, Chase couldn't tell if he was impressed or making fun of her, but Chase didn't care.
"You know, I have a feeling, quitting isn't a word Zoey knows," Chase said confidently.
"Whose side are you on, and its not like it matters, there is no way they have a chance of win- Who's that?" Logan asked, seeing another girl walk up to Zoey and swish in a shot from the three-point line like it was nothing.
"I think that's Dana, Zoey's other roommate." Chase answered, "You know, I think we might be in trouble now." Chase grinned excitedly.
"So what if they have two girls that can shoot now? Our lead is still unbeatable. Let's go show these girls who's boss around here." Logan said.
The second half began, but now it was a completely different game, seems like Dana was the secret weapon that the girls needed. The other three girls still had very little idea what they were doing, but Zoey and Dana working together started to bite into the guys' lead little by little.
Before long, the clock was only a few seconds away from zero, the score 28-27. Zoey was dribbling down the court as fast as she could when she passed the ball over to Dana. "Two seconds, shoot!" She yelled.
Dana squared herself up to the basket and let the ball fly right as the timer started buzzing. Everyone held their breath in silent anticipation as the ball flew through the air, straight towards the basket, but the ball hit the rim, once, twice, and then bounced out to the ground. The final score: Guys 28-Girls 27.
"It was close, we just didn't have enough time," Zoey whispered to Dana. Before they both were surprised by the continued cheers of "Girls, Girls, Girls," from the crowd.
"Well, look who lost." Logan swaggered over to them. "Hope you learned your lesson-"
"I sure did." Coach Zipse interrupted Logan. "How would you two girls like to join the basketball team?"
"What? Coach?" Logan whined.
"I'll think about it," Dana said.
"Fair enough, what about you Zoey? I think you'd make an excellent point guard."
"Sure, I'll play." Zoey nodded with a smile.
"Coach! But I'm point guard!" Logan whined.
"Well sometimes things change." Coach Zipse reminded him and started walking away.
"Coach, are you seriously going to put a girl on our team?" Logan shouted after him.
"Hey, you catch on quick for a guy." Zoey quipped at him. "Bye teammate." Zoey led the girls off the court, and Chase couldn't hold in his grin. Zoey was so amazing.
"Hey Zoey!" Chase ran up to follow her.
"Hey Chase."
"Good job."
"Thanks Chase, you did a good job playing too, but I think its time for all of us to hit the showers."
"Yeah probably. I'll see you later?"
"Of course you can. See you later Chase." Zoey waved goodbye as she led the girls away.
Later that night, the girls were throwing a party in their lounge to celebrate with plenty of pizza and cake being shared all around. Everyone had just finished giving Zoey and Dana a round of applause when Chase led Michael and the other guys from the basketball team into the lounge, but thankfully without Logan, Zoey noticed.
Seeing Chase though, Zoey couldn't help but smile at him, even though some of the other girls were sending the guys suspicious glances.
"Hi." Chase waved, in the adorably awkward wave he always seemed to use when he was around her.
"What do you want?" Dana asked.
Michael started, "Well, me and the guys just came down here to tell you that we're sorry for playing a little rough today."
"Yeah, and not all of us guys here at PCA feel the same way as Logan," Chase added.
"Thanks." Zoey smiled at Chase and the rest of them.
"Is that it?" Dana asked.
"Um, no. We also heard that you got pizza." Michael admitted.
"And cake," Chase added.
"Oh, so you want pizza." Zoey grinned at them.
"And cake," Chase added again.
"Well, give them some food, let's turn up the music, and let's get this party started yo!" Quinn cheered.
The music was turned up and soon everyone was once again dancing, eating, and having a good time. The other guys all attacked the nearest pizza boxes but Chase stayed near Zoey.
"I…I'm really glad you made the team."
"Thanks, me too." Zoey nodded back.
"So uh, do you think the girls are going to like it here at PCA?"
"Yeah I do, you know after we make a few little changes." Zoey grinned.
"What kind of changes?"
"Oh, some things," Zoey said evasively. "And seriously Chase, you don't need to worry, I know Logan's a jerk but I never doubted you for a second. I know you're a great guy. Zoey reached out to place her hand on his shoulder."
"Thank you, Zoey, that means a lot." Chase felt the heat rising to his cheeks. "Hey, by chance have you had any sushi yet since you got here?"
"No, I haven't. This school has a sushi place too? Is there anything PCA doesn't have?"
"Well we don't have a rocket ship, unfortunately, I think they're building that next year." Chase quipped, "but back on topic, do you want to go to Sushi Rox with me tomorrow?" Chase asked nervously, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Um, yeah I would love too." Zoey said slowly, she could feel her own face heating up. She had a question she wanted to ask but didn't know what answer she wanted. "Chase, are you asking me out?" She tried not to smile and give away the idea Nicole had planted in her head.
"Um…" Chase paused for a moment too long, and her face fell, but seeing her reaction he rushed out. "Yes, yes I am. Zoey, how would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow night? You're super cute and it's been super fun hanging out with you these past few days, and I'd love for the chance to get to know you better."
"Yes Chase, I will go on a date with you."
"You will?"
"Of course I will, like you said, I'm not the only one that's super cute, and funny, and is also super fun to hang out with. I would love to go on a date with you. Just tell me when."
"OK, how about 5:30?"
"It's a date Chase. I can't wait. But for now, how about we grab some cake?"
"Sounds like a plan to me Zoey." Chase grinned right back at her.
They walked back over to the table that held the cake, side by side, their hands just barely brushing until Chase took a chance and grabbed hers, then seeing Zoey smile widely at him, he smiled even brighter and knew in his heart he made the right decision.
Looks like he should tell Michael he was right, he had nothing to be afraid of and in all honesty, if he had tried to wait, he probably would have been too scared to ever tell her, even though he knew he liked her from the moment he saw her. He was glad to be proven wrong though, and now he couldn't wait to see what PCA was like with Zoey by his side.
Zoey felt so happy, her first week at a new school, and in addition to all her new girlfriends, she already found a super cute, super fun, maybe boyfriend. Who knows, she couldn't wait until tomorrow, hopefully after their first date they could be official. She could admit to Nicole she did really like Chase, and she couldn't wait to see all the other amazing new things PCA had to offer with Chase by her side.
