Chapter 6
"Ahhh that was Delicious my K9 friend". Forrest sighed in content as he rubbed his stomach after finishing the meal that Jack had bought up for him. "Heh no worry Forrest, I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did". the golden furred Labrador licked his chops happily as he sat next to the teen.
"So Jack what's it like being a student here it seems interesting," The teen asked as he turned to the K9. "Um well... it's good I mean...it can be uh Difficult at times but I manage". The K9s ears drooped for a second as the teen noticed the change in the Labrador instantly. "Hey, you ok Jack is something bothering you" The teen questioned his gaze one of concern as he stared at Jack.
"Its... it's nothing Forrest don't worry" The K9 rubbed the back of his head with a paw a nervous chuckle escaping his muzzle. Forrest became concerned as he placed a reassuring hand on Jack's shoulder as the Labradors brown eyes met the teens own. "You can tell me, Jack, if its something that's bothering you...the least I can do is listen, after all, you've done".
Jack smiled slightly before sighing as he looked at his hands. "Well, its...one of my friends you see...lately he's been acting out of the norm...His name is Legoshi" The Labrador gazed out of the Window his eyes taking on a glazed look. "I...met Legoshi when I was just a kid a pup...back then...i"
Forrest listened to what Jack had to say as the Labrador took him back to the day of their first meeting...
(In the middle of history class many years ago)
"The war originally started from a dispute between the horse family and the weasel family" The teacher a female antelope spoke as she drew a picture of the two animals mentioned. "The carnivores and herbivores from all over the world got involved in a world war" she turned to the class smiling.
"Who knows how many years its been since the war started" she questioned her gaze scanning over the young faces in her class. "Anyone" there was a short silence until a Golden furred hand shot up. "Okay, Jack..stand up and tell the class". The young pup stood up as the gazes of the other young students focused on him as he smiled. "Ninety years ago...The war only lasted for one year" The teacher smiled at the Labrador Pup and nodded her head a smile present on her features "Correct I'm glad you know," she said with a confirming nod as she turned back to the board to continue with the lesson. Yet the Labrador pups mind began to wonder about the mentioned war.
(Turning to Forrest Jacks expression became darker his eyes seemed to dim as his ears lowered..."That war...bought upon a new generation of cats and dogs". The human put his arm around the K9 giving him a reassuring squeeze as Jack thanked him a slight smile splayed on his muzzle as he continued ).
As the bell rang the other youngsters began to file out of the class as the young Jack stood there his little mind thinking about the conflict. (we were made to abandon our carnivorous belligerence and have more intelligence ). His thoughts were suddenly interrupted as a sudden shove to the pups back from a goat bought him back round. "I bet your happy you got to be the teacher's pet again" the herbivore spoke as Jack laughed shyly looking at the small group that had suddenly surrounded him.
"I..it was just a coincidence" he smiled chuckling as the group looked down at him "LIAR!" The group stood staring at young Jack as they grinned slyly at the K9.
"You got a 100 in that last test," one of them said as the other placed his hands on his hips looking over the Labrador pup. "I wish I was artificial, Id have a good noggin from the day I was born," as another nodded his expression becoming harsh. " But we're not like you...were the genuine article". One of the group suddenly had a thought as he smiled at Jack "Seeing as you don't need to work hard to get good grades, you could make yourself useful to us, and help us cheat".
The young pup looked at them a shy smile on his muzzle "Wha..what? ah, I don't know..." he averted his gaze away from the group as he tried to avoid their questions until he caught sight of a wolf, the lupine stared back from the corner. Young Jacks gaze was fixed on the wolf his mind blocking out what the group were saying about him.
A sudden flock of young students filed out to the playground as Jack followed suit, stepping out into the sunlight he looked around. As the young animals began talking about what games they were going to play such as dodge-ball and other child activities. Jack overheard a comment which made The Labrador pups ears twitch as he listened to what some of them were saying. "Ugh he's here again...gross," one said as another spoke up "Oh, he's the grey wolf isn't he...what's his name again" Jack just looked on at them as they spoke about this grey wolf apparently chanting spells and cursing the class.
Meanwhile, the wolf pup stayed hunched over as Young Jack spotted the lupine as he made his way over to the hunched lupine. The Labrador leaned in slightly his eyes holding curiosity. "Hey what are you doing" he questioned the grey wolf who stayed crouched in silence. "Don't you want to play with everyone...Legoshi". he said gained the Wolf pups attention as he turned to face the Labrador his eyes glistening in the light slightly as they stared into jacks own.
The two stayed silent as they took in one another's features until the young Labrador smiled at Legoshi "I..i know your name...we live close to each other" Legoshi just continued to stare at the Labrador in silence as Jack looked at the lupines face seeing a splotch of dirt on the wolfs furred face. "Uh..um you got..dirt on your face".
Legoshi blinked in surprise before using his shirt to rub his face clean as he quickly took off running away from the confused Labrador. "Oh hey!" Jack shouted as the K9 looked down at what the wolf was working on. (He's not chanting curse spells...he's just playing in the sand like everyone else).
The K9 looked at the running wolf his expression one of determination (its now or never..I NEED TO TALK TO HIM). "HEY," he cried trying to catch up to Legoshi "WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FROM ME!" Jack tried desperately to keep up with the lupine as he stumbled slightly. "HEY...ARE YOU TRYING TO BE ALL ALONE" Jack cried as he ran as fast as his legs could carry him. (I can't catch him, he's to fast). With everything going on Jack failed to notice the stone in his path as his shoe caught on the obtruding rock, letting out a startled yelp the Labrador pup crashed to the ground with a thud.
Legoshi quickly spun around to see the young Labrador pup on the floor, his ears suddenly perked up as they picked up the sound of crying, the grey lupine began to slowly approach the fallen Labrador. Jack stayed on the floor his eyes tearing up as he whimpered sorrowfully. "A wolf-like you...can be so much more, so why?" Jack sniffled his eyes tightly closed "You're weird... you're weird..".
(It hurts..) Jack thought as his ears detected a shuffle of shoes, opening his eyes he was met with a pair of shoes in front oh his muzzle as he looked up into Legoshis eyes. Legoshi stared in a crouched form in front of Jack. "You're not smiling," Legoshi said to Jack as the Labrador looked at the wolf his eyes still tearful. Legoshi suddenly extended his hand to the Labrador pup as he accepted Legoshis hand. "O...of course not, I'm mad this is the first time...I've ever talked to a wolf", Legoshi continued to stare at Jack as he helped the K9 up slightly as Jack knelt.
"But I didn't think id be so jealous of you..." Jack spoke looking down slightly, Legoshis ears perked in interest at the Labradors question. "Why are you jealous" he questioned as Jack raised his head to meet the wolfs questioning gaze. "Dogs were made to be a refined version of wolves... you're my ancestor," Jack said eyes looking back down at the ground his face a downtrodden expression.
"Dogs don't have the belligerence or strength that wolves have...we were artificially made to specialise in intelligence" Jack spoke as Legoshis expression began to change unnoticed by the Labrador, Jacks mind drifted to the feeling of Legoshis hand as he stared down at it. (Legoshis hand is really big contrary to his body...i..its proof that his body will continue to grow bigger heh...its a genuine hand, compared to my own) Jack felt his eyes welling up again. (It looks like its filled with stuffing).
"Are ancestors really all that great?" Legoshi spoke as Jack looked up in confusion "Huh". Legoshi stood up gazing down at Jack his expression soft yet also hostile "I don't want any bit of belligerence or strength" he spoke his eyes glistened with understanding. "I'm jealous of you.." Jack looked up at Legoshi the Labradors face one of confusion and shock "Wha.."
"Oh, what's this" a sudden voice called out as both of the young Pups looked over to see two of there classmates approach with sinister smirks on their muzzles. "This looks fun," a feline said followed by a young alpaca "The original is facing off with the artificial," he said with a mocking tone. "A..aww you guys...you saw us" Jack laughed nervously as he smiled at the group of young students as Legoshi scowled at them...
"WHOA!" Jack cried out as a pair of arms dragged him away from Legoshi. "Jack stands here" they then moved the Lupine to face the Labrador. "And you stand here Legoshi". Jack stared worriedly at Legoshi as the feline turned to look at the Wolf his hands resting on his shoulders. "He's been acting as the teacher's pet..he thinks he's smarter than us" The feline smirked his eyes glancing at the worried face of Jack. "You're a wolf, you ought to teach him a lesson".
Legoshis eyes met Jacks as the Labrador whimpered slightly. "L...Legoshi". The two looked at each other as the Class watched on. "THIS IS A FIGHT BETWEEN THE ORIGINAL AND THE ARTIFICIAL"..."Aww man, this is gonna be great"..."GO LEGOSHI GET HIM"..."TEACH HIM WHAT REAL FEAR FEELS LIKE". Legoshi began to look around in confusion at the other students not knowing what to do in this situation "Wh...whats happening...hey". he spoke looking at his classmates for an answer. "What're you dawdling for Legoshi...BEAT THAT ARTIFICIAL".
Jack, however, smiled nervously as he rubbed the back of his head with a paw as the chants and cries of "Artificial " seemed to not affect the K9. "This...this is my fault hehe..heh...This is such a fix huh...what should I do". Legoshi heard this as his face became emotionless as he stared at Jack. "I've been wondering this ever since I first saw you..." He spoke as Jack raised his brows in confusion ears perking as he listened to Legoshi.
"If you don't like this then get mad" The lupines gaze narrowing slightly at Jack "Why are you smiling?" he questioned as the Labrador shuffled nervously stuttering slightly "B..Because...I CANT GET MAD...N...NOT ME ". Jacks heart rate began to quicken as he breathed deeper. "You don't know what it's like to be a dog," Jack said as the wolf held his narrowed gaze. "why don't you get mad" Jack let out another nervous and desperate chuckle "I'm a dog...at times like this the only thing I can do is smile".
Legoshis eyes seemed to take on a sheen as his eyes stared deeply into the Labradors seemingly into his soul "...ARE YOU BLAMING YOUR FAULTS ON YOUR SPECIES?" the lupine said as he closed his eyes a small chuckle escaping his muzzle. "Arent you supposed to be a refined version of my species...?" This seemed to get a reaction as Jacks eyes narrowed his fur bristling slightly as he let out a faint growl his vision turning hazy.
"AAAAAAHHHHHHH" With a sudden loud bark, Jack leapt at Legoshi his teeth bared as the K9 grabbed the lupines shoulders pushing him to the floor. "Whoa Jack made the first blow" To the shock of the others, Jack had made the first move as the two toppled to the ground. "I DONT WANT TO BE LECTURED BY AN IGNORANT WOLF" Jack growled his muzzle inches from Legoshis face "YOU HAVE EVERYTHING THAT I DONT". The crowd looked shocked as they turned to each other in confusion as Jack shouted at Legoshi as he snapped out of his shock as he raised a hand slapping the Labrador as he bared his teeth.
Jacks head jerked to the side from the hit as he looked back at Legoshi eyes glaring as he grit his teeth. "No, I don't...! In my seven years of life, there has never been a single time that I was glad to be born a WOLF!". Jacks expression become more enraged as he went in for another hit aimed at the lupine. The two continued to tussle and fight rolling around in the dirt, as they continued to shout at each other.
As there fight continued the other students watched on until they heard fast approaching footsteps as some of them turned only for there ears to lower in fear. "HEY..!" Everyone's attention was suddenly on there teacher as she stormed over. Jack and Legoshi looked at her in fear as they stopped there fight eyes widening in fear. "What are you two doing? stop this nonsense and makeup" she spoke sternly at them as the two looked at her there eyes wide. "Is that ok?" they both asked as the female antelope sighed placing a hand to her forehead "Don't ask me " she turned to them and pointed to the school as their ears drooped in shame.
As they made their way to there teachers office the two walked alongside each other with scowls still present on there faces. Jack looked over at the lupine his thoughts were on the fight (Whats the deal with this wolf!) he thought as he led Legoshi to the teacher's office. "When the teachers done lecturing us were gonna arm wrestle,.a..and then were gonna have a race". Legoshi just scowled at the K9 as he grumbled "...Your pretty belligerent..."
(Present day)
"And that's how I met Legoshi all those years ago...when we had that fight we clicked...and have been best friends since... I just hope he's ok you know" Jack turned to Forrest looking at the human as he nodded in understanding. "From what you told me about him...he sounds like a true friend Jack, and you know what with a friend like you he will be fine"
Jack smiled up at Forrest the Labradors mood-improving as he nodded "Heh yeah I bet he's doing fine". As the two stayed in silence Jacks eyes drifted to the setting sky his Thoughts focusing on his best friend...
