The Following Day, Headmaster's office
"So, now that we have had heard how the second years are doing, let us move onto our last subject of discussion, the first years," Professor Dumbledore said as the staff meeting started to wind down after a three-hour discussion on the older years.
"Of course, Albus, how would you like for us to discuss them, by house, or by course?" Professor McGonagall asked respectfully.
"Let us go by class, are there any first years that have shown great promise in your class, Severus?" Professor Dumbledore asked kindly.
"As normal, most are Dunderheads, however in each of the two classes there is a solid team, for the Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff class, Mr. Potter, and Ms. Bones are doing exceptionally well, and in my Slytherin, Gryffindor class, Ms. Greengrass and Ms. Davis are in a similar level. However, we also have some major dunderheads, especially Mr. Weasley, Mr. Goyle, and Mr. Smith," Severus said with a drawl.
"I am surprised you complimented Mr. Potter, and did not compliment your god-son," A plump short woman said surprised.
"Well Pomona, my God-son is still in the hospital wing from whatever caused him to be spasming on the floor on the train, though I am not sure what was the cause. As for Mr. Potter, he is taking more after Lily than his dunderhead father, but he also clearly has been taught proper customs," Severus said simply.
"Poppy, have you yet figured out the cause of Mr. Malfoy's spasming?" Professor Dumbledore asked an older woman wearing white.
"It appears to be coming from the Black Heir Ring he is wearing, but I am unable to contact Lord Black, or remove the ring, so I am not sure what else I can do, until one or the other happens," The woman said simply.
"Interesting, well moving on I suppose, Filius what is your report?" Professor Dumbledore asked softly.
"Well from Hufflepuff, Ernie McMillan and Susan Bones are the two best, from my Ravens, Padma Patil and Terry Boot are the best, though Hadrian Potter sits by both Susan Bones and Padma Patil and gets most charms shortly after either of them. Gryffindor's best are Hermione Granger, and Dean Thomas, and Slytherin's best are the same as Severus' in Daphne Greengrass and Tracey Davis," Professor Flitwick said happily.
"Any students who seem to have struggles," Professor Dumbledore asked curiously.
"Mostly the same as Severus, Ronald Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Zacharias Smith, and Michael Corner," Professor Flitwick said sadly.
"Well, Filius I would not be surprised if Mr. Longbottom's skill improves this next week, since he asked if he could use my Floo and talk to his Grandmother about potential magic drains, from the events of November 1981, which she had apparently never considered and so he is currently at Gringotts to have any removed," Professor McGonagall said with a smile.
"Is that so, I wonder who ever had that thought?" Professor Dumbledore said, shocked that he had not considered that before.
"Apparently Mr. Potter mentioned it to him, and even suggested he not ask his Grandfather Barty, since you know how Barty is these days," Professor McGonagall said simply.
"Interesting, well thank you Filius, Minerva, how about for you?" Professor Dumbledore asked kindly.
"Similar sets to Severus and Filius, Hufflepuff has Hannah Abbot and Susan Bones, Ravenclaw has Padma Patil and Hadrian Potter, Slytherin has Tracey Davis and Blaise Zabini, and from my Lions Hermione Granger and Parvati Patil. On the negative side we again have Mr. Weasley, Misters Crabbe and Goyle, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Corner," Professor McGonagall said simply.
"Very interesting, moving on Pomona?" Professor Dumbledore asked.
"For Slytherin Misters Nott and Zabini, for Gryffindor Mr. Longbottom and Ms. Dunbar, Ravenclaw has Mr. Boot, and Ms. Li, and from my Badgers Mr. McMillan, and Ms. Abbott. However, I have the exact same poor students that Minerva had," Professor Sprout said with a smile.
"What about for your Quirinus?" Professor Dumbledore asked a man wearing a Turban.
"They all are doing well, Headmaster," The man said with a considerable stutter.
"Very well, what about for our last two professors, Aurora, Rolanda?" Professor Dumbledore asked curious on how the two Saturday classes went.
"Everyone is doing pretty much the same, with the exclusion of Mr. Potter who seems to have a great deal of interest in the stars, said they radiate the power of Eru, something I had never heard of before, but still was an interesting conversation," A woman who looked younger than Severus, and had dark skin said simply.
"Well, that's like when I took him to Diagon Alley he asked bout some Nimmy, he has some strange ideas," Hagrid said from where he sat.
"Interesting, Aurora, and Rubeus, what about you Rolanda, I heard that one of your flying classes ended early yesterday," Professor Dumbledore said simply.
"Aye, stupid Brat of Mr. Weasley ignored my express direction and broke his wrist because of it, and that was after he kept calling Mr. Longbottom a squib, but Mr. Potter was able to cheer Mr. Longbottom up by saying he could be the Newt Scamander but for magical plants," Madam Hooch said miffed about Ron Weasley's actions.
"I can see that Mr. Longbottom does have a special talent, well beyond my own, I could see him do what Newt did 50 years ago," Professor Sprout said with a nod.
"Very interesting, well I suppose if there is nothing else, we will meet again in a month for our next meeting," Professor Dumbledore said now having a lot to think about.
