The Rise of Zaun
Chapter 01
Intro
Lark wondered if he had been going crazy or if everything was just a bad dream. Death had been a small comfort for him considering the amount of pain he had been in, no matter what people said or tried to do he found the concept of falling asleep and not waking up again was a welcoming one as he would not have to suffer the pain his body constantly produced. He knew both his mother and sisters would be heartbroken of his passing, but it hurt him just as much when he caught them looking at him with sorrowful expressions knowing there was little that they could do to remove or numb the pain.
But just as fast as he fell asleep, he had woken up, not in his own body. His mind had been filled with curiosity rather than pain and for the first time in a long time he felt excitement, reborn into another world. But all that curiosity and excitement showed Lark the world and city he now lived in became dread as he discovered the place he now lived in, while it had the hints of a steampunk and clockwork technological society that he greatly found fascinating, was a city he had been plunged into w poverty and pollution.
Between being born and growing up in the under city of Piltover, Lark found the differences between the under and upper cities of Piltover to be vastly different in a number of ways. While the under city lived amongst the factories which polluted the air and created the green smog that gave the city it ominous green glow during the night, the upper city had little to no pollution as the people there lived comfortably with food and resources that cites governmental body offered
Being born in the under city would have forced Lark to mature a lot faster if he had not retained the memoires of his past life which could had led to a number of situations that could have gotten him killed or worse. Lark's new mother was a doctor who owned a clinic treating the sick and dying in the lower city and was more than once forced to watch as her patience's die rather curing them of the ailments. It was not that his mother didn't know how to treat and cure them, it was the fact the resources that she needed came in short supply and any petition she for forward to the Piltover Council came back to her with denied stamped in bold red ink.
Lark did everything for his new mother who did everything in tern to teach him what he needs to know in surviving and gifting him an education that less than fifty percent of the children in the lower city would get. Julia Hamilton reminded Lark much of Jessica Hamilton and had been mildly surprised that both of his mother in his previous and new life had the same last name. He wondered if whatever being had gifted him a second life had gotten lazy and picked him to be reborn by Julia Hamilton simply because they had the same last name.
Not that Lark cared. Julia Hamilton reminded him much of Jessica Hamilton as both were loving mothers that any son or daughter would be poured to call their mothers. As a doctor and someone that cared for the health and welfare of those within the under city Julia Hamilton was a rising star with the city and was someone that everyone loved or respected as she advocated for equal rights and opportunities between both cities to the Council, there wasn't a person that lived in the under city who didn't know the name Julia Hamilton to the point many considered her to be one of the leaders of under city, much to the annoyance of the Piltover Council.
Julia Hamilton was now dead.
Amongst the smoke and fire on main bridge that connected the two cities of Piltover together Lark knelt down next to his mother holding her dead body in his arms. A bullet had been fired into the back of her head and had exited from the front, telling Lark a lot as it had not been a simple misfire of a Piltover Enforcer, but rather it had been clod blooded murder. The corpse of a man his mother had been tending to showed she had not come to the protest and later uprising as a combatant, but rather a medic who was looking to heal and protect the endured.
But now she was gone, and Lark's mind was trying to cope with everything that was happening. He understood that politics had a big impact and what happened here and could easily concluded that his mother had been killed because some member on the Piltover Council wanted her out of the way. While she might have made a good name for herself in the under city and was highly respected amongst the people, that didn't mean she hadn't made enemies from those in the upper city and on the Council itself.
But that mattered little to him at the moment. With the fires still burning and the gunfire raining out from the Piltover Enforcers, the only thing Lark cared for was getting himself and his mothers' body off the bridge and back to the under city. The last thing he wanted was to for someone to use her death and body for political gain, he wouldn't put it past the Council to try something, at the same time he wouldn't put it past a few people in the under city as well.
Dear friend across the river.
My hands are cold and bare.
Just as he was about to leave, the sound of someone singing caught his attention. It was a song that his mother song to him when he was a baby and a child. Why someone was singing it now, in the middle of a massacre was beyond him, but when he saw the person who was singing it and the other person who was guiding the singer with a hand covering the singers' eyes, he recognized them immediately.
Dear friend across the river.
I'll take what you can spare.
I ask you without envy.
We raise no mighty towers.
Our homes are built of stone.
So come across the river.
And find…
Both Vi and Powder stopped at the sight of Lark who was still carrying his deceased mother in his arms. A look of horror was shown on Vi's face who unknowingly dropped the hand the was covering Powder's eyes. The two were frozen in horror at Julia's lifeless body as the two both knew Julia as their doctor and a close friend of their parents. Vi placed a comfort hand on Lark's cheek, which was something Lark was grateful for, he hadn't realized tears had been running down his face and Vi was kind enough to wipe them away.
"Thank you" he said trying to not let his voice break down into a crock.
He was about to say more when the sound of metal hitting metal was heard. Turning their attention to the sound Lark and Vi saw a large figure pulverising one of the Piltover Enforcers with metal gloves that look to have been cobbled together out of scrap iron or metal. With the Enforcer knocked to the ground out cold, the figure turned towards Lark and the girls and walked over to them, seeing Lark's mother in his hand the man shed a tear and like the girls had a sad look on his face.
Vi, without saying a word, asked if Vander knew what had happened to hers and Powder's parents. Vander looked over to where two corpses laid on the ground in which both the girls and Lark recognised.
Unable to hold herself back Lark could only watch as Vi broke down on her knees and started to cry. Powder had tried to keep a strong face but ended up wrapping her arms around her and started crying as well. Placing his mother's body on the ground Lark wrapped his arms around the two, all three of them had lost their mothers and while Lark's father might have died earlier in the year, he knew what the pain losing a father was like, if not twice.
It was safe to say that Lark wanted revenge for what had happened…
[[You have located the body of Julia Hamilton]]
[[You have completed the Quest; Missing Angel of Zaun]]
[[Rewards will be handed to you momentarily]]
Lark flick the blue screen out of his view with his mind. The upper city might have its forces, its guns and its explosives; it even might have the mages and sorceress they kept in the Academy.
But he doubted they had a[[System]].
[[New Quest Discovered; The Truth ill set them Free]]
All Lark needed was time.
[[Quest Objective 01; Find evidence to who had caused the Progress Massacre]]
All he needed was patience.
[[Quest Objective 02; Bring Justice to those that had lost loved ones during the Progress Massacre]]
All he needed was to train.
[[Quest Objective 03; Ensure the Rise of The Nation of Zaun]]
And Piltover wouldn't know what hit it.
