Chapter 02

Three Years Later…

On route to Piltover…

Eastern Sea….

Alicia Greyhound was considered one of the best Admirals within the Piltover Navy. For over the past ten years since taking the helm of her own ship, she had ensured that the convoys and trade routes which were vital to Piltover economy were protected, any pirate that caught her for making trouble for her countrymen were quickly dealt with both efficiency and brutality which meant she had more pirate blood on her hands than most. While some would say she should be more lenient to her fellow man and woman, she ignored such things and reminded them what pirates did to those that got caught in their mitts, the only way in her mind to deal with pirates was to kill them and be done with it, they were nothing more than bandits and rapist on ships, nothing more and nothing less.

This was why the small fleet she had amassed made people shiver when they saw it. The five fidgets, two cargo ships, and one capital ship made people on both land and sea pale upon seeing them. The Lionhead, the capital ship that had been presented to her after dealing with the Bloodravens crew who had been plaguing Piltover for two generations was her pride and joy. With the top-of-the-line cannons from Piltover's factories and a crew that was always prepared, training their swordsmanship on land, and were hardened warriors who even the barbarians from Noxus would have a hard time dealing with.

With the ships sailing towards Piltover after picking up cargo from the Ixtal Alicia stood on the top deck of her ship and looked out at the ocean. For the past few months, she had heard of the Council trying to decide whether to or not put more funding into the air-feet Councillor Hoskel had been pushing for. It was obvious to everyone and Alicia herself that the man was pushing that bill forward so that he could increase his own wealth, the fat slob of a Councillor owned the factories that created the airships that were seeing floating over Piltover every day. And while even Alicia admired the ingenuity of the flying machines, she had known that Piltover still need a strong grip on their sea routes and sea borders.

Having studied the airships Alicia could point out the flaws in Councillor Hoskel arguments and had even told the Council itself. While many people thought of her as a ruthless Admiral on the open seas, no one expected an explanation in how ineffective the airships would be out in the open sea and how ineffective they would be against pirates and enemy ships. No one had expected Councillor Hoskel to turn into a grape and the following example showcases the airships being shot down with nothing but rifles while being able to outmaneuver both the cannon fire, rifle fire, and bombs sent down at Alicia's own ship.

It had been the most embarrassing day Councillor Hoskel and Alicia had made a mockery of his brand-new airships. It was even more embarrassing for the man when it was discovered that it had not been a lucky shot the ended up destroying one of his airships, but rather that the engines that had been designed overheated and exploded killing the pilot and crew members. Councillor Hoskel had tried to lay the blame for the deaths on her, but she reminded him and everyone else that it had been his argument that caused the challenge to have live fire rather than a safer means to make their case and points.

Alicia had also pointed out that it had been his engine alone that destroyed his last airship which led to the man having a screaming fit before being dragged off. She had made an enemy in Councillor Hoskel, but he had been the one who was trying to tear down everything she had been working on all her life. The Piltover fleet and the Navy itself was Alicia's life's work, everything she had done to improve it was to help secure Piltover protection and its trade and Alicia understood the threat that were out there and what happens when people become compliant.

"Mr. Becket" Alicia called out to her helmsman "The air?"

To anyone who was unaware of David Beckets abnormal sense of smell then the question would have gone over their heads. Looking to the helmsman she watched as the middle age man tilted his head up and sniffed the air.

"Nothing to report Admiral" Mr. Becket said "A few seagulls in the air and…"

That was when David Becket stopped himself. He took a few more sniffs like a dog would when he found an odd scent in the air and was trying to discover what it was.

"There's something Admiral" he sniffed some more "Behind us!"

"Alert level two, now!"

The warning bell started ringing and the sound of her crew started moving about in the lower decks. Those that had been just sleeping were now wide awake and were getting themselves to their battle stations. The two cargo ships and three frigates were also at alert level two by the time Alicia pulled out her spyglass and looked beyond the bow of her ship, only to curse inwardly as she was unable to see anything thanks to the clouded night sky.

"Floodlights!" she called out and watched as the Lionhead and two of her frigates lit up the sea behind them.

But only for a brief moment.

Each ship had at least two floodlights at the back of them making six in total to light up the sea behind them. Only for a brief moment were those floodlights switched on until the sound of gunshots rang out with bullets targeting the floodlights, there had been six shots in total and all of them had hit their marks perfectly.

Alicia took in a deep breath upon witnessing that. She kept an encyclopedia of pirates who were notable marksmen while also keeping up to date on locals and foreigners who had high skills. Yet she could not think of anyone one or group that had such synchronize in sniping floodlights out on the open water, she had tried three times to make a team of her own with a similar skill set, but instead of floodlights, she wanted the targets to be pirate heads.

"Unload the oil!" Alicia ordered.

While it was difficult to see oil was being poured from the bow of the Lionhead and the two frigates on her ship's sides. She doubted the pirates that were hiding in the dark behind her would notice it, while the black clouds were giving the pirates cover, it was also stopping them from seeing the black oil that was being poured into the sea right in front of them.

"Light it up!" Alicia called out once more and watched as the sea behind her was set alight.

Alicia didn't expect the pirates to fall for the trick. After a number of years of doing the same thing over and over again, most of the pirates had wised up and learned to keep their ships spread out and not directly behind them.

But there was nothing.

No ship.

No small schooner that had snipers firing at them.

Nothing.

"Mr. Becket" Alicia called out.

"Too much fire Admiral" the helmsman said before sniffing the air once more "Nothing but burning oil"

Alicia frowned. This was the drawback on David's unique ability. While he could spot certain smells in the air, those were lost when something stronger was percent, which was currently the fire that was raging right behind them and the wind blowing the smell into their direction.

"Stats on the floodlights" she questioned.

"Another minute Admiral" said one of her crew members who were helping in repairing the floodlights. From what they gathered; it was only the bulbs that had been damaged beyond repair which meant replacements were needed. An easy job for her crew as they had been drilled in making repairs during battle.

"The moment those floodlights are operational I want both starboard and port side lit up"

It was the only place the ship or ships had run off to. Glancing towards where the oil had been spilled there were sightings of any enemy ships.

"Single both the…"

Before she could finish her order the sound of cannon fire was heard at the front of the convoy with the following explosion. To everyone's shock and horror the frigate called the Butcher had been completely destroyed, the whole top and middle deck had exploded while sending a shockwave with the explosion out towards the other ships.

Alicia felt the shockwave and used the railing to stay standing. Some of her crew did the same but those that we're unable to grab anything found themselves fallen over either face first or on their backs.

"Where did that shot come from!"

"In front of us Admiral" one of her crewmen said as they point in the direction of where the shot had been fired.

"All ships front floodlights! Now!"

Her crew didn't need to be told twice and those on the other ships followed instructions the flag signal operator sent.

For a brief moment, some could see a flicker of blue light floating above the water and in the air in front of the convoy. But like the floodlights that were at the bows at the back of the convoy, they were taken up by sniper fire.

This was not your average pirate raid.

"Someone, get me eyes on the enemy now!"

The order was plain and simple and the crewmembers moved to fulfill them. Alicia was going over everything that had just happened and was looking back at all the naval battles she had faced and the scenarios she played out in her head. The enemy had effectively made them blind from behind and emptied their oil defenses, Alicia was smacking herself on the head mentally for that particular blunder, while it was effective the pirates had caught onto her methods even though she had been thorough with ensuring none of them ever spoke again.

Sadly, it looked like her methods had reached the pirates of Bilgewater had caught onto some of the methods Alicia employed.

"No matter" she said to herself as she watched as the frigate that had been destroyed sank into the water. There were no sightings of survivors and Alicia would just have to hurt the pirates five times as hard for every man and woman she had just lost.

"Have the fleet scatter" Alicia ordered "I want those dogs to have a line of sight of the cargo ships"

To anyone else, it would have been madness or blind betrayal to order such a thing. But her crew didn't question the order and relayed it to the other ships.

Within five minutes the cargo ships were on their own and the two remaining frigates and Lionhead Capital ship looked like they were abandoning them. What no one suspected was the cargo had been reloading onto the Lionhead during the voyage back to Piltover, all that would be waiting for the pirates, who were no doubt racing to the seemingly undefended cargo ships, were cannons concealed away, armed men and woman, along with the best guns and sword Piltover could provide

Alicia thought smugly to herself when the pirates discovered those cargo ships were nothing but death traps. She suspected at least five percent of the crewmembers would be lost, which pained Alicia to no end, but those men and women knew what they were signing up to when presented with her plans and orders, she gave them more than a few chances to back out and find another occupation or commissions onto other ships with reliable captains she trusted.

Most captains were more than happy to take crewmembers she had trained, some outright tried to nab them from under her. But if there was one thing Alicia has beaten into her men and woman it was both loyalty and patriotism. Those on the cargo ship would rather fight to the death than bend the knee to anyone outside of Piltover.

It had been five minutes since they left the cargo ships. And looking through her spyglass Alicia frowned as the cargo ships just sat there on the water, the crews on those ships looked just as bewildered and baffled at why they had not been attacked. It was the perfect bait, and yet the pirates were completely uninterested in two cargo ships that were sailing with seemingly no protection.

BOOM!

Once more one of her frigates was destroyed in a single fit. The shockwave of the explosion blew a few off their feet.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!...

The ringing in Alicia's ears did not cause her to fall or shockwaves she felt. Alicia stood her ground as she watched the ships and crews that had severed under her for years were blown to kingdom come. Her mind had gone blank for over a minute before she pulled herself together.

"Someone. Show. Me. Where. Those FUCKEN PIRATES ARE!"

Just as the words left her mouth a blue light appeared above the Lionhead. Looking up Alicia found herself looking at a Noxus frigate with a bird's eye view. She had no idea how or why she was looking at the hideous looking ship from this angel, but she took notice of the rifles the soldiers were aiming in her direction.

"Find cover!"

Gunfire started haling down on them. Alicia was once more forced to watch as members of her crew die in front of her, for all her perpetration and strategies she had never thought of something like this. Magic had always been a sore subject for every nation around the world, no matter what the government or royalty that was currently in charge, there was both fear and anger towards magic whenever the subject was brought up.

Piltover had their own mages and sorcerers in the Academy, but from what Alicia understood and knew, they kept those people there as the scientist could try and understand magic rather than teach those people anything. The Academy acted more like a gilded cage for those people, something that Alicia considered more of a waste of time and money.

For over a minute gunfire continued to run down on the Lionhead, the sails were shredded and the wooden planks that made the deck. The only thing that kept Alicia alive was luck, pure luck that she and a few others that had not found cover had been left untouched.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

The gunfire stopped with the sound of objects being dropped onto what was left of the deck. A yellow smoke started emitting from them which caused Alicia to pale, she tried issuing orders, but her eyes felt heavy and whatever strength she had left, both mentally and physically strength just left her.

The sound of bootsteps was the first thing Alicia heard. Keeping her eyes shut, Alicia acted as if she was still unconscious. From the nose she was hearing there were at least five Noxus soldiers near her and her crew, everyone was tied and gagged, just like her they kept their eyes shut and acted as if they were still unconscious.

"How goes the cargo haul" said one of the armored men.

"Still being loaded" said another "Still can't believe that Piltover was right about the shipment change during the voyage, would have wasted our time going after those cargo ships"

"Keep your mouth shut!" the other Noxus soldier said in a harsh whisper "The commander doesn't want anyone talking about her. Who knows what could be listening?"

"Piltover and their trinkets" said the other "What did she call them? Listening Devices?"

"One of the men found a few in the Admirals quatres, three in total"

"You think there were others?"

"From what the pirates said about the Mutt they wouldn't put it past her to have those Listening Devices all over the ship"

Alicia frowned at the name that was used. Mutt had been the nickname both Noxus and pirates called her, it was a nickname that pirates had used to identify her which was later picked up amongst other nations that had their own Navy forces. The name Mutt of Piltover had practically spread across the world and it was something that irritated Alicia to no end.

"But we got them all right?" continued one of the soldiers.

"Most likely"

"So, when are we going to kill this lot?"

"We're not"

"Why. They saw us through the portal that was opened up, didn't they?"

"One Way Teleportation. That's what the Piltover said" the soldier said smugly "Figured it out from studying those mages in the Academy from what I heard"

Alicia was seething inside at what she was hearing. It was only her years of practice that she managed to remain calm and collected while acting as if she was still unconscious. But one thing was plaguing her mind, why were these soldiers so open about it, they were speaking right next to their prisoners about important information.

"Should we really be talking about this so close to that lot?" one of the soldiers asked

"It doesn't matter, that gas should keep them knocked out for a good day or two, will wake up with a massive headache from what I was told"

"Oh… will that's good. The God's only know if they discovered House Stoneheart were the ones to attack them"

The was a smack with a follow curse.

"What the fuck was that for!"

"Didn't I tell you there could still be some of those listening devices around?"

"But we've got them all"

"Only the ones we know of"

The two remained quiet until they were ordered to leave with the rest of the men. It wasn't until half n hour later that Alicia untied herself along with what remained of the crew.

"Mr. Becket" Alicia called out.

"It was Noxus alright" said the helmsmen who were stretching his muscles after being tied up for so long "Faint aromas of…."

Alicia listed the smells and odors Becket could smell. Only a very few of them showed long-time scents that lingered on people who had been on the sea for a number of days and weeks. Given the time frame, their current location, the odors themselves, Alicia surmised the people that had attacked them were indeed from House Stoneheart, a Noxus House that lived in the mountains and controlled most of the countries iron supply.

There had been rumors that House was falling on hard times and the iron vanes that kept in control over their region of land were running out. The number of Hex Crystals they had just stolen would allow them to retain power for a time and gain favor with the Noxus leadership if it was discovered their mountains contained Hex Crystals, but such a ruse would only last for so long.

Even though the evidence pointed to House Stoneheart, Alicia was finding it difficult in how easy it was to gather all the information. Part of her mind was nagging at her to look deeper at everything that had happened, but the more she tried the harder it was to find any other answers.

Not that it mattered right now. Alicia needed to get what remained of her crew checked over and healed along with getting what remained of her ship repaired.

No matter what happened or who had been the real cause of the catastrophe Alicia was forced to bear witness to, she knew there was going to be a lot of hell to pay and people looking to point the blame at her.

Three Days Later…

Hidden Bridgewater Port

The sound of gagging breaths could be heard along with the clanging sound of men in armor falling to the ground. What had been a celebration between pirates had turned into a sight of horror as black veins started appearing on their exposed skin with the feeling of something squeezing the life out of them. Panic erupted amongst the crew and all turned towards the Admirals' quarters where Gangplank was meeting with their current sponsor, but whatever hope they had with their captain saving them died the moment Gangplank was thrown out the door arms and legs bound in rope.

"WE HAD A DEAL!" the bearded captain cried out "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO YOU'RE MESSING WITH?"

"I believe we did have a deal Captain Gangplank or was it Coby Timpson?" said their sponsor "In fact, it was the best deal that anyone could have ever receive from me, considering the amount of money I spent on this little voyage and cleaning up what you consider a crew. I was even going to let you have all the Hex Crystals to do with as you please"

The sponsor stepped out of the captains' quarters with who many called the lanky man. The sponsor was a young man no older the fourteen, with short black hair and purple eyes that made it very easy for someone to spot him, he wore what was regular pirate clothing which was a set of brown trousers a white shirt, and boots.

A lanky man who wore a black coat over his two bandages which covered his mouth nose and hair, a pair of glasses covered his eyes, and everyone suspected them to be a pushover at first. But the way the man kicked Gangplank in the stomach sending across the deck told everyone otherwise.

A small spider machine crawled up the leg of the sponsor who in turn grabbed it and flicked a switch under its belly.

((So, we going to kill him after we get the loot Captain?)) said one of the pirates on the recording

((Of course)) said Gangplank who let out a laugh ((Does any of you lot expect me to honor a deal with someone beneath me? With a Piltover of all people?))

The sponsor flicked the switch once more and the spider-recorder became silent.

"If you are looking for anyone to blame Gangplank just look at yourself. You've backstabbed everyone you've ever met and literally have no friends to call upon those misguided followers of yours that consider themselves respectable pirates. You've told no one of this little voyage of ours so you didn't have to pay spoil-taxes to Bilgewater, which in my mind is just added insult as you blatantly steal from the treasury over the past ten years as the islands King"

While his crew had gone black in the face Gangplank's was completely red. One of the deadliest pirate crews in Bilgewater fell like flies while trying so hard to breathe. The little brat was looking down at him with a sad smile on his face.

"I put so much effort into this crew to get the Greyhound into thinking a House of Noxus attacked them" said the sponsor "All that time and efforted wasted, giving the good pirates of these islands a bit of reprieve from the Piltover Navy"

"And they'll thank you for that," said a feminine voice who was walking onto the ship "They'll thank you, even more, when they find Gangplank's private little hideaway and all the money that's been missing from the treasury"

Gangplank's eye bulged upon hearing that voice. Wiggling around the so-called pirate king saw a redhead young woman now standing on the Noxus stolen ship, she had been the greatest thorn in his side as she had killed more than a few of his men which had loosened his grip on parts of Bilgewater's islands.

Sarah Fortune, otherwise known as Miss Fortune, looked down at the man who had killed her mother because he was too cheap to pay for the hand-cannons she now possessed. With a tight black leather vest hugging both her body and white loose sleeve which amplified her curves and breasts, tight black leather pants showing off more of her curves, and long red hair under her pirate hat, it was more than difficult for men and women to lose their concentration in her beautiful looks and figure.

"Miss Fortune" said the sponsor who gave a short bow "I take it you and your crew were more than happy having discovered Gangplank's little hideaway"

"That little map you left on my bed led us right to it" Miss Fortune gave him the brightest smile she could muster "Three decades of ill-gotten fortune, from both the treasury and other pirates he stole from. I wonder how Blackbeard would react when I hand him the sword, he had handed his daughter for her tenth birthday?"

Gangplank's face went pale upon hearing that. It was law not to attack their fellow pirates. With how the rest of the world viewed them the last thing anyone on Bilgewater wanted was for their fellow pirates attacking one another on the open seas. Barfights and inhouse fights where the occasional person was killed were acceptable, but the open waters were considered taboo for any fighting amongst pirates was considered a death sentence in Bilgewater.

The last crew that was caught killing other pirates on the open sea were placed in cages and left to die in the dehydrated in the sunlight with crows picking at their remains. Other's methods of horrible deaths involved sharks, centipedes that ate the flesh off a person, and a man named Big Bob.

"You think Blackbeard will even listen to you. The sorry sack of shit will follow every word I say. He'll kill you the moment he sees the state I'm in, killing his daughter after letting my men have their way with her was the best thing to ever happen to that old fuck, he would have become nothing without me" Gangplank said while spitting towards Miss Fortune's feet with a smile.

The redhead pirate snarled at Gangplank, while rape was something that did occur amongst the pirates when attacking ships, it was highly frowned upon to the point those pirates were shunned amongst their pairs. While Miss Fortune didn't know Blackbeard's, she had heard that the girl was a ray of sunshine in Bilgewater and the sinking of her ship and crew had brought Blackbeard to a low part in his life where Gangplank was able to manipulate him into a loyal lapdog after getting "Justice" for Blackbeard's daughter.

((You think Blackbeard will even listen to you. The sorry sack of shit will follow every word I say. He'll kill you the moment he sees the state I'm in, killing his daughter after letting my men have their way with her was the best thing to ever happen to that old fuck, he would have become nothing without me))

"So predictable," said the sponsor clicking his spider-recorder off "Miss Fortune, I believe I have the perfect gift for you to go with your Gangplank"

The little spider-recorder crawled over to Miss Fortune who picked up lovingly. She picked up quickly on how to operate the recorder side of the device and gave the sponsor a perfect smile.

"Thank you, Mr. Hamilton. I'm sure everyone in Bilgewater will take great interest"

Two of Miss Fortune's crew came to drag Gangplank away whose mouth had been gagged.

The man that had been standing next to Lark started pouring oil across the deck of the stolen Noxus ship, some of Gangplank's crew were still alive but were unable to beg or scream as the oil was poured on them.

For a while, both Miss Fortune and Lark stood with each other watching the Noxus ship drift off. The lanky man pulled out a bow with a lit arrow and the two were treated to a burning Noxus ship with a clear night sky.

"Gangplank has been removed from power. Piltover will be at odds with Noxus for a time. And every pirate in Bilgewater won't have to worry about the Greyhound for a time. I say this has been a productive couple of weeks," said Lark

"I'm just glad that Gangplank is finally getting what been coming to him" said Miss Fortune "I have to say, Mr. Hamilton, you've been nothing but a blessing to these islands, you sure there nothing I could do keep you here"

The two arms that wrapped around him pulled the back of his head into Miss Fortune's breasts. While only thirteen, Lark was more than accustomed to Miss Fortune's lack of modesty around him when others were not around. The two had grown close to each other over the years after he had arrived in Bilgewater after being banished from Piltover as a whole.

Miss Fortune wanted Gangplank and his followers removed from Bilgewater who had run a monopoly over the other pirates and held an iron fist. Having the revenge, she had long dreamed of for took a weight off Miss Fortune's shoulder she had no idea had been there, for the first time she was no longer looking for a way to kill Gangplank and his crew, rather just a few stragglers and backers that were considered easy picking for her and her crew.

For Lark it was creating turmoil in Piltover, or more specifically within the Council and their allies. Being banished from the undercity and Piltover itself had been a move that a few within the upper echelon families in topside wanted, as they could see the future problems they would have if he stayed in the undercity. With his mother now dead, much of the undercity's leadership fell onto Vander, but the Council and others saw having Lark Hamilton with him could inspire another bloody protest given time. All Vander would need to do was to slowly build up his forces and storm the topside when they least expected it.

Being sent to Bilgewater, the Piltover Council thought they had been rid of Lark for good. They expected him to have either been killed off or taken in as a pirate and later killed by the Greyhound. Never did they suspect he would amass such a fortune and allies like Miss Fortune and through the discovery of hidden cashes and fortunes of treasure that had been buried for generations on the islands.

Lark had his own line of diving crews who looked for sunken ships that held treasure and information. A factory creating weapons that not even Piltover could match, and magic that was based on the characteristics of video games.

'The System is so broken'

The power of the System made things easier. While it didn't make him a god or a completely overpowered person. It allowed him to grow stronger and intelligent while also giving him hints and tips. The Reward part of the System allowed him to accumulate more gold than a single King Lord or Council Member would ever see, and the Inventory allowed him to carry it wherever he went.

"As much as I will love to stay, I have a city to return to and work I have to complete for my mother"

Miss Fortune did not let go however and held him a bit tighter.

"Is there nothing I can do to get you to stay? With how you worked Gangplank's crew gave the Greyhound a run for her money, I would say that you would do better than most as a captain of Bilgewater"

"I can picture the fleet now, burning Piltover's fleet and Noxus's, perhaps Demacia while I'm at it" Lark mused

"They tossed you out, didn't they?"

Lark nodded to that. Vander had meant to be there when Lark needed him most, but the man was more than willing to bend the knee and do whatever the Council told him. They had more than enough evidence to put Vander in a prison cell and forget about him, which if had been the case someone else would have taken control over the undercity and there was no telling who would be in power. Being banished away from everything he had come to know and love left Lark with a bitterness that never left Lark's mouth, while he was mentally mature enough to understand some of the reasons to why Vander did what he did, it didn't change the betrayal he felt.

"No one will know I'm there" Lark said "For now at least. And there's still the matter of medicines I've created that will help the people of the undercity; God only knows how much they need it right now"

Miss Fortune flinched upon hearing that. Lark had told her some of the ailments the people of the undercity went through and the mutations they suffered, He spoke highly about his mother and the work she did, and Miss Fortune could see both of their mothers getting along with each other if they ever had the chance.

"When are you leaving?"

"In a week" Lark replied said looking up at her "Need to make sure your transition to power runs smoothly, don't want any of Gangplank's followers ruining your big moment"

"Well…. I guess I have a whole week of you all to myself until then"

Before Lark could say anything Miss Fortune's lips smacked into his own and was drugged off before his mind rebooted.

The tall lanky man just rolled his eyes at that and said "Miss Hamilton would have liked her"

I would like to give a shout-out to all the reviewers and people who had Favourited or are now Following this story.

To Alv1; That sounded like a good idea but the way I'm going to be writing this story is more set on using the System as a tool to get things done. There won't be any themes to it, but it is a good idea.
