8. Snow-globe

December, 2005

"And then Shego, through a complex system of satellites, my weather machines will simultaneously manifest—"

"Whoa, Doc. Lots of big words there. Careful you don't break your brain trying to use them."

Drakken scowled at her for a long moment in response, but then shook it off and continued.

"As I was saying... My weather machines, controlled via satellite here at the lair, will create a global cataclysm—"

"Oooh, didn't know you knew that one."

"Nyeh! Which will force the nations to bow to me!"

Drakken's fists were raised in triumph, but Shego was impassive as she lazily took a few steps from her chair to lean against his desk. Drakken's giddy grin began to fade to a frown as he saw the telltale smirk beginning to curl Shego's lips upward. She picked up a tiny ornament from next to his array of papers and flipped it, causing the bits of plastic to float in the suspended liquid surrounding the resin figure of a snowman.

"A snow-globe?"

Drakken forced his grin to stay on his face and nodded as he held his breath.

"Giving everyone a white Christmas is your big plan for wold domination?"

He felt his bubble of elation pop, but still clung to defiant pride in his plan.

"Au contrair—"

"Now he speaks foreign languages," Shego said, her smirk growing.

"...Ngh. The parts of the world not prepared for the blizzard of the century—"

"Lofty expectations, Dr. D."

"—will have no choice but to submit to my rule, or else suffer a frigid end," he finished, pulling the snow-globe from her hand and grinning evilly as he watched the plastic flakes fall.

"Oooh, scary man!" Shego mocked. Drakken scowled and put the snow-globe back on his desk.

"You'll see, Shego! This time I won't fail! This time—"

"I think it's great."

Drakken stopped, his finger held up as he was about to begin a rant of justification. He blinked and slowly lowered his hand.

"What...?"

There was nothing false in her expression as she faced him, and no mischief or mocking. Only an evil glint in her eyes that matched his own and an undercurrent of excitement. Drakken felt a missed warmth begin to spread through his chest.

"I think it's great," Shego repeated, picking up the snow-globe and tossing its plastic flakes again before her grin broadened. "So, where do we start?"
