A/N: It has been a hot minute since I have worked on this story! I am sorry for going not keeping you all in the loop! Now as per usual, I do not own D Gray Man. I only own my OC.

This first thing that I noticed was the hard bed beneath my body, the second thing I noticed was the unbearable weight on my chest. I peeled my eyes open to glance around but I found my vision blurry. I laid there for a few moments before I try to speak. My voice comes out dry and raspy its so faint that I immediately feel the hope that someone will hear me die away. What little energy I can muster is quickly draining away as I hear the rustling of fabric to my left.

"Ah, good morning! I was hoping you would wake up today." I try to look at the owner of the voice but my lack of energy is very noticeable when I find myself unable to even move my head.

"I suppose I should go get the doctor and have him give you a once over." The voice says before I hear the scraping of chair legs on wood and footsteps leading away from the bed. It isn't long before I hear a door open and close. As I lay their in silence I begin to drift back to sleep. As my eyes starting drooping closed I hear the door open again.

"Miss Middleton! It is so good to see you awake!" Dr. Jacobs says as I feel him rush to my side.

"Dr. Jacobs?" I mumble.

"Yes its me my dear girl. Now lets get you propped up." He sits me up rather quickly and starts piling pillows behind my back.

"Alright, lets get your face cleaned, I bet your having trouble seeing. Your eyes are nearly sealed shut from lack of use! You have been asleep for almost two weeks!" A warm towel brushes against my face, with each stroke more and more of my vision is returned to me. With the final stroke I make eye contact with the weathered face of Dr. Jacobs. Just behind him is a man I have never seen before. He is wearing an expensive looking coat with yellow trim, his face bears a rather ragged looking mustache and beard and his long dirty looking hair is pulled back into a low ponytail.

As I study this new man, Dr. Jacobs is performing a full physical. "Well as expected you're a little weak from laying prone for so long, but other than that, your as healthy as usual." He says as he hands me a glass of water.

"What happened?" I choke out after taking a small sip of water.

"Oh my dear girl, I hate to tell you this." Dr Jacobs looks down to the ground. "There was a fire, at the temple. You were the only one who was recovered. The rest of the villagers combed the wreckage for a week looking for the remains of your family, however, there were none to be found."

"My family….is gone?" I croak out as tears spring to my eyes.

"Oh I am so sorry!" Dr Jacobs reaches forward and pulls me into a gentle hug. "No child should have to experience this." He begins to cry as well. The man in the corner glances down perhaps as a way to give us some privacy. We sat there crying for a while letting our sorrows drown us. It is a while before Dr. Jacobs pulls away.

"The villagers have all come together to build a memorial for your family so don't you worry about a thing. Now you have had a constant guardian during your long rest. I suggest you speak with him" Dr Jacobs says as he straightens himself before making his way to the door. There is an almost imperceptible nod shared between the two men.

As Dr. Jacobs closes the door the stranger makes his way to the chair at my bedside. "May I give my condolences first before we begin, Miss Middleton." The man says

"Thank you" I choke out.

"My name is Froi Tiedoll, I am an exorcist employed by the Black Order." At my confused face Froi explains. "The Black Order is an organization that was founded many centuries ago in order to fight the evil in the world. This evil takes the form of Akuma created by the Millenium Earl." I sat there in silence trying to understand what he is saying.

"That night two weeks ago, your home was attacked by some of these Akuma." He continues

"There was a man…I remember a man." I mutter.

"Yes, that man was Suman, he is a fellow exorcists." He nods before continuing.

"Now that night, you should have died. You were struck by one of the Akuma before Suman could kill it. Usually when a normal human is hit by an Akuma's attack the poison will kill them almost immediately. However, you were saved by innocence." He paused.

"Innocence is the only weapon that can kill Akuma, there are certain exorcists, like myself, that carry several pieces of innocence with them. These exorcists are in search of the chosen wielders. That night, one of my pieces chose you. At the last moment the innocence merged with your body and purged it of the poison from the Akuma." He stops to look me in the eyes.

"What…does that…mean?" I manage to say.

"That means you were chosen by God to help fight in the war against the Millenium Earl." Froi says.

"Chosen by God? What God? God let my family be killed by those monsters." I choke out in a fit of rage. Froi looks at me in shock. "Miss Middleton, I truly am sorry about your loss. If Suman and I had been faster then perhaps we could have saved your family." Froi responds. I scoff at his sentence.

"Do you know what my family did as a living?" I ask Froi.

"We were priests. We trained our whole lives in order to rid the world of darkness. Now that darkness managed to purge my family from its world." I grumble.

"Miss Middleton, as much as you may be loath to accept it. You were chosen to fight against the darkness. Now you have two choices. One you can sit here and wallow in the darkness until it consumes and kills you, or two, you can come with me and learn how to use this weapon to avenge your family." Froi said. "I will give you three days to think before you decide. If you need me or you make your decision I will be staying at the Inn down the road." He says before he stands and walks out of the room.

I sit there in silence for a few moments before I hear father McGregor come in.

"Tara? Would you be willing to speak with me?" Father McGregor asks as he takes a seat in the chair that Froi just vacated.

"Tara I know what your going through is hard, but you must remember that your family would want you to go on. To live your life. Your father would want you to be strong to live for them." McGregor continues. "I know that right now you may not see the light at the end of the tunnel but just because you can't see it does not mean it is not there. You just need to continue to take every step like you mean it. One day you will see that the life your going to live, your going to live it for your entire family." He smiles before he stands and walks to the door.

"Get some rest Tara. It will help" He says as he walks out and closes the door.

A/N: So tell me what you think. I would like to know if you guys like it so far. I know it says humor in the description, but we have to get through this depressing shit first then it will be laugh central hopefully!
