Domino city is located in Canada – some not too far from Toronto and is almost exactly like it, it is essentially a sister-parallel city, except no smelly downtown and traffic and is much less congested. It's more like a hybrid city with a decent downtown but with a predominantly suburban landscape, like a half-"City" half-"Satellite" landscape from 5D's, or Karakura Town from BLEACH.
Everybody gets together to play duel monsters, video games, or watch movies and eat out or eat-in for a whole day of fun for every other weekend in each month if able.
It is now the year 2021, seventeen years after the heroes finished the last ancient Egyptian time travel arc. At that point, as seen in the show, Tea stated they had all been friends for four years at that point. Meaning in 2004 the gang was twenty. (Kaiba is a couple years older than everyone because he finished home school but had to go to regular school to have an official diploma for business purposes). Because that arc began concurrently with the timeline it aired in, i.e. beginning of twenty-first century, as stated by Yami in the final arc where he says "it seems I've been transported back in time five-thousand years, but in this shadow game with Bakura, the events of the past being altered are having their effect on the twenty-first century where all my friends are.
The game of dueling has long evolved since its early humble beginnings in Battle City. Our heroes are very much fully-grown adults now. All of them have wives/husbands and have some kind of post-secondary education. They seldom get together anymore due to their busy lives aside from the coffee tea meetups, but when they do, a weight of stress is lifted off their shoulders from their daily lives and they feel, if even temporarily, a sigh of nostalgia and relief they haven't felt in a long time. This is, of course, except for Kaiba, because he's always busy…with his six computer monitors on his desk at the same time, as well as an expensive workstation laptop and a XL starbugz burst stream of destruction flavour brew of coffee.
The last time Yugi and the gang (Tea and Rebecca, Joey, Tristan, Duke, Bakura) met up was some time ago; they were casually playing Duel Monsters with all their new support cards at Yugi his wives' Rebecca and Tea's house together. Yugi no longer lives with his grandpa, but rather, grandpa lives with them in that house, in the basement which has been converted into his own apartment free of charge, while Yugi's parents also live not too far away.
Since it has been some time, Yugi called everyone up and said they should gather at his place for coffee and card games. They decided to meet at Yugi's place, make a big group hug and just enjoy the night with coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and the new 85 inch 4K LED ultra HD TV Joey got for Yugi as a belated birthday present from KostKo Buy (belated because he just got back a few days ago from an important econometric conference trip overseas in Norway for the world economic summit ). Tristan and his wife Serenity are chatting with Mai and Joey. Yugi is browsing his desktop computer looking into a recent light out/sudden and short power outage event that struck the city not long ago. Duke and his wife are chatting with Bakura and his wife over tea about recent travels they've done across the world. Duke's wife, like him, looks kind of goth in her expressions, but she's usually dressed in white and is very pale herself, with almost not color, but has dark blonde hair and green eyes, but she's a super bubbly personality. Bakura's wife, like him, is soft and quiet with a gentle English accent (image Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter, very albino looking).
After a jolly, fun-filled long night of games, chatting, beverages, and catching up, everyone sleeps over at the house. Once the loud chatter has started to subside and people are either dozing off or deep asleep, Rebecca is drinking Japanese green tea while working on her history lectures for the next couple of weeks as she is also professor of archaeology and ancient history at DominoU.
Grandpa is in the basement with his daughter (Yugi's mom is his daughter) and son in law, who are taking a two week vacation from work because they didn't get the chance last year). Everyone sleeps easy and peacefully for the night. Little did everybody know, they were about to be part of a great new phenomenon that's going to hit Domino City like none other before…much suspense, action, and new revelations await.
