A/N: It has been a while since I wrote a story about Danny and Sam, but I hope you like my Christmas story about them :)
The Christmas lights from outside her window provided the only light in Sam's room. It was already past midnight, but she still lay awake in her bed. Even after a stressful day, thanks to some last minute shopping with Tucker and two ghost fights on their evening patrol she couldn't sleep. Sure, she was exhausted, but she had too much on her mind to let sleep claim her.
The last few weeks she felt like there was something important that she was missing in her life. The more she thought about it the more it dawned on her what it was. Love.
She knew that there were different kinds of love. Family love, she experienced every time she was with her grandma. The bond between them was unbreakable and Sam was glad to have her in her life.
Then there was the love shared between friends. She had two best friends and even when she had only the two, she wouldn't change it for the world. Tucker and her were fighting a lot, because of their different opinions on certain things, but in the end, he was always there for her when she needed him.
Another kind of love was the one she held for nature and animal rights. She tried everything to save animals, that were mistreated like the frogs she had stole from Lancer.
It had taken her, the independent goth girl Sam Manson, a while to figure out which love was missing in her life, but she had overcome her stubbornness to admit it to herself. The loving atmosphere of Christmas had been a huge part in that development.
The fact that she was missing romantic love in her life had been surprising to her. Even worse than this realization was for her that she knew exactly with whom she wanted to experience that kind of love. However the worst part was, that she was sure that this was never going to happen between them. Her best friend didn't feel that way about her.
Maybe she was destined to be alone, maybe no one would be able to love her in that way. This insecure side was one she hid, because she had to be always the level-headed one of the group. Sometimes she wished that she could just take a backseat, but that wasn't likely to happen. Sighing she came to the conclusion that she would never experience this kind of love, seeing that the one she was in love with was clueless.
At Fenton Works a ghost boy lay in his bed in his human form. After his fights with Skulker and the Box Ghost he was exhausted, but he couldn't sleep.
Every time he wasn't preoccupied with ghosts or school his thoughts wandered to a certain goth girl. She was his best friend, but he wanted her to be so much more. He was deeply in love with her, but too afraid to say anything. He knew that it was wrong to think about her in that way, but he couldn't help it. She was his beautiful goth girl and in his eyes the perfect girl. She was always strong, independent and cared deeply for the ones she loved.
Now that he was thinking about her anyway, maybe he should fly over to her house and see if she was alright. He had done that a lot lately, just flying over and looking if she was safe. He knew he had to stop doing that. It only made it harder for him to accept that she would never love him back. However every time he told himself that, he still found himself on his way to her. Today, despite being Christmas Eve, was no exception.
His decision was the reason why Sam, who was still awake, felt the temperature in her room drop a few minutes later.
"Danny?"
"Hey Sam." He became visible and she saw him rubbing his neck nervously. "Did I wake you?"
"Nah, I was awake anyway. Can you change back? It's getting cold in here."
"Sure." Two bright rings appeared on his waist and he transformed back into Danny Fenton.
"So what brings you here?" Sam asked and sat up in her bed. Danny could see her purple top coming in sight.
"Would you believe me, if I told you that I came for no reason?"
"No, I don't think I would buy that."
"Figures. Well, then would you believe that I just wanted to see you?" He blushed at his own words as soon as he had said them. Where was he going with this? Was he really ready to finally make a move?
"You came to see me?" A little blush rose on Sam's pale cheeks.
There were two ways he could react now. He could take the easy way out and tell her that, of course he wanted to see her because they were friends or option two, tell her what she really meant to him. Maybe it was the way her eyes shone so hopefully in the Christmas lights from outside or the fact that he was in love with her for months now, but he let his heart decide. His next words were coming from a place deep in his heart and he meant every word.
"I came to see you. I have been doing that for a while now to make sure you're safe." Almost hesitantly he moved closer to her and sat down on her bed. Gently he took a hold of one of her hands and took a shaking breath. "I have been doing that because I'm in love with you."
During his confession he had looked at her, but now he averted his eyes, afraid of the rejection that would clearly be coming. However Sam's silence wasn't a bad thing. It took her a moment to let his words sink in, but then a smile took over her face and she gently touched his cheek to make him look at her.
"A confession on Christmas Eve, it's a bit cliché, don't you think?" She teased him softly.
"Not more cliché than falling for you best friend." He replied just as softly.
"I'm not for cliches, but then again we fit it quite well at the moment. Just for the record, I feel the same way." The beautiful goth girl finally admitted.
With a smile on his lips Danny listened to his heart for the second time that evening and closed the gap between them. It wasn't their first kiss, but it was their first kiss with their feelings for each other finally in the open and that alone made the kiss the best one yet. This would be their first Christmas as a couple and both were sure that there were a lot more to come.
A/N: Merry Christmas :)
