So seeing as this story has sat untouched for nearly ten years now I'm sure that you are aware that it has more or less been abandoned. There was a point I intended to continue it but in the time since I've moved, changed computers, gone through college, and gotten a job... I lost all of the notes I had on what I was planning for this story, and even if I hadn't I don't write the same way anymore.

So bad news, yes this story is abandoned. But I have some good news for anyone that was still holding on to hope for more of this story:

I'm rebooting it.

That's my solution to 'I have a story I wish I could continue but I don't write the same way I used to', I'll just completely redo it from the ground up.

Meitantei Scramble, take 2. Now with a story that was actually thought out ahead of time, more characters, and even more body swapping nonsense.

And since it's against the TOS of this site to post a chapter that's only author's notes the rest of this is a sort of preview of what is to come.

Shinichi Kudo:

Strong moral compass but willing to break the law (identity fraud, assisting Kaitou Kid on occasion, helping the FBI agents that are illegally operating in Japan instead of just informing the Japanese police, possession and consumption of unregulated illegal drugs….. Et cetera) for the sake of what he personally thinks is right.

Before becoming Conan had the 'unpleasant habit' (Ran's phrasing in chapter 882) of saying things that make it seem almost like he can see into your mind then not explaining how he knows.

While 'Shinichi' seems to view things more or less in black and white since becoming Conan he's been humbled, he's had experiences that changed how he sees things and while he's still pursuing the truth he's softer in how he treats criminals whenever he can afford to be. Still he'll spare no efforts to try to save a life even if it means taking some calculated risks (endanger himself and others just to try to save someone.)

Is often stopped by extenuating circumstances but left to his own devices is quick to reveal secrets when confronted.

Thinks he understands how bras work but clearly doesn't.

As Conan is terrifying to the point that people don't generally ask 'who is this child?' but rather 'What is this child?'

Is hiding the fact that he's Edogawa Conan.

Heiji Hattori:
Irresponsible and superstitious.

Doesn't know how to treat real children after all the time he's spent around Conan.

Impulsive. Once presented with sufficient evidence to confirm a theory tends to rush headlong into it to the point of ignoring evidence that goes against his theory.

Good at thinking on his feet, and clever with wordplay.

Very proud and hadn't really ever been knocked down a peg in that department until his first encounter with Shinichi. Which has resulted in him having a great respect for Shinichi but also a strong determination to prove he's just as good if not better.

Much like Shinichi will prioritize the safety of others over his own, even at the risk of destroying evidence.

Kaito Kuroba:

Daddy issues. Mostly in the form of idolizing his father.

As a result of his father's advice to always wear a poker face has the tendency to hide his real feelings behind a mask of mischief and perversion. Doesn't feel like he can let anyone get close to him, it was true before but now that he actually has something to hide he's doubled down on making sure that no one is able to see his more vulnerable side.

Quick to make promises and has a strong sense of duty.

Continues to try to hide the truth even when people have made it clear that they know and also actively helped him.

Debilitating fear of fish. No clear cause.

Is hiding that he is Kaitou Kid.

Saguru Hakuba:
Fixation on motive. When solving crimes will focus on the why of it.

Insists on things being done by the book so as not to potentially destroy evidence even if there's the chance that quicker more decisive action may save a life.
Despite his initial appearance of being cold and calculating he's rather empathetic and more likely to let a criminal run free than Heiji or Shinichi. Evidenced by how he's been saving Kaito since becoming certain that he's Kid.

Loves Sherlock Holmes enough to have a cosplay outfit that he sometimes casually wears and has also named his pet hawk Watson.

Tracks time from year to the millisecond constantly. OCD or perhaps a coping mechanism developed after a past trauma.

Is hiding that ▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮.

Masumi Sera:

Capable of noticing small details but often falls right at the end of the deduction having missed some final clue, and she seems to be aware of this shortcoming as well because she often will run her deductions by one of her family members before presenting it confidently or otherwise using Conan as a sort of failsafe that can be fallen back on in the case that she's wrong.

Cares very much about being perceived as a girl but makes no efforts to be traditionally feminine.

She normally presents herself with confidence but that's easily shaken when she's challenged.

Quickly becomes attached to people and cares very strongly for her friends and family.

British/Japanese but spent a good bit of time in America. Displays traits from each country.

Is hiding her ▮▮▮▮▮.

Rei Furuya:

Doesn't get attached to people easily but once he's attached he'll do anything to protect them or honor their memory.

Good at acting and juggling responsibilities. Will strongly commit to whatever role he's expected to play in the given moment even if it means going against his personal feelings (for example; being Bourbon to investigate the Organization).

Fully aware that he has skills that put him beyond average but stays humble because he's conscious of the fact that no matter how good he is at something there is likely someone out there that is better.

Seems to have some animosity towards the FBI even setting aside his role as Bourbon and tense feelings towards Akai over what happened to Scotch. A bad experience in the past perhaps. Likely because of the FBI's tendency to swoop in and try to take over investigations. Possibly related to the fact that he's been picked on in the past for looking like a foreigner.

Even though he tries to constantly act logically does occasionally let emotions get the better of him.

Despite the fact that he's been searching for Miyano Ellena and likely knew that she was connected to the organization doesn't seem to recognize Shiho/Haibara as one of her children.

Because he overworks himself, he doesn't sleep much.

Is hiding that ▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮.

Kogoro Mouri:

Good at tailing and infidelity investigations, but when it comes to murder investigations tends to aggressively pursue the first theory that comes to mind until presented with evidence that counters it.

Once he's had a theory about how something works will bend over backwards to explain it, forgetting about evidence that disproves it in the process.

Has difficulty showing that he cares about anyone unless they're actively in danger. But if someone he cares for is in danger he will become fierce.

Has been slowly building up resistance to sleeping drugs.

Not particularly good at acting.

Loves puns.
