I am so, so, sorry for the long wait. I hope this'll make up for it.
Meeting the Parents part 2
Chloe: Wait, wait? Wait… you guys don't want me and Lucifer to get married?
Penelope: No, no. Honey, no. Of course, we want you to get married. We've seen how happy Lucifer makes you and we'd never ask you to give that up. And granted, I'm thrilled that you two are planning a real wedding. Unlike your last one.
Chloe: What was wrong with my last wedding?
Penelope: Pumpkin, you and Dan didn't even attend it. You both went to the courthouse and then went straight back to work.
Chloe: Okay. Okay. But what does that has to do with me and Lucifer?
John: We just want to know if Lucifer is fully committed to the two of you being together.
Chloe: Dad, of course he is. Lucifer is flawed, and yes, there were times when he wasn't always there for me, but he always made things right and when it mattered most, he always had my back.
Penelope: Until the day… you were pregnant and…
Chloe: No, mom that's not what happened. Lucifer didn't leave me because I was pregnant. We both wanted him to stay. But he couldn't.
From there, Chloe told her parents the full story. How Rory came to them from the future, how it was all meant to happen because of the time-loop, how Rory made them promise to never change anything that had already happened in her life, and how Chloe learned to accept it all and wouldn't have changed anything.
Although, when she was still living on Earth, Chloe often thought about how different her life would've been if Lucifer had stayed and been the father he deserved to be. To both Rory and Trixie.
She imagined Rory as a child, running into her father's arms and pictured him lifting her up and the two of them laughing and hugging. Then, all four of them would lay on the carpet and play monopoly together. They probably would have been so happy together. They could've been a real family.
Except… deep down, Chloe knew Lucifer would have felt resentful for not fulfilling his true calling. All because she couldn't bear to let him go and then countless souls would have continued to suffer from their unsolved guilt.
Which also would've made her feel like the most selfish human on Earth for keeping him from a worthy purpose. Especially since, Lucifer was more than supportive when she decided not to become his consultant and instead returned to the LAPD to fight the injustice and corruption.
After all, what kind of spouse steps in the way of their partner's true desire in return?
And of all people, Chloe's parents could relate to that kind of scenario. Taking turns to support their partner's dreams.
Meanwhile, Lucifer and Rory were enjoying their 'Father-Daughter day 2.0.' They did all the things they did on August 4th 2021 and more. Water-balloon fights, sumo-wrestling, buying endless supplies of pastries and jewellery, karaoke, re-watching both the old and new versions of BONES, etc.
Eventually, the two decided to take a breath, sat near a beautiful pond and watched the light from the sun reflecting on it. During which, Lucifer took this moment to tell his daughter about the surprise he had in store for Chloe for when they return to Hell.
Lucifer: Alright, don't tell your mother this but… I've got a special surprise for her for when we return home.
Rory: Home? You guys are going back to Hell?
Lucifer: Well, yes. There are still souls down there that need our guidance to escape their guilt. It is my calling after all, and your mother and I are partners from here until the end of time.
Rory: And that's great, dad. I'm proud of you, I really am. I just thought… you know, since you and mom fulfilled your promises and well, everyone you and love is here…
Lucifer: Rory… As much I would love to stay here with you and everyone else I care about, we can't. Your mother and I may have kept our promise to you, but we still have a responsibility to all those souls down there and we can't stop.
Rory: Spoken like a true hero. (She and Lucifer briefly chuckle before asking him…) Is mom happy? You know, even though she's obviously not a lost soul… is she okay being in Hell?
Lucifer: Well, considering she became the very first human soul to willingly come down to Hell just so she could spend the rest of eternity with me. She gave up Heaven for me. And for that, I will do everything in my power to make sure she is as happy as can be.
Rory: Hmm. Sounds like you should add that to your wedding vows. It must've been a big surprise for you when she came to you after all those years apart.
Lucifer: Oh. From the moment, I opened that door and saw your mother standing there, offering to be my partner again… there were no words to decide it. It was greatest surprise I've ever received. Tied with you, of course. And I want to promise you, that even after the wedding we'll still come up here to visit you and everyone else. We all have an eternal existence now. so time is definitely not a problem.
Rory: Dad, I'm an Angel. I can also pop down to see you.
Lucifer: That could work too.
From that moment on, Lucifer wrapped his arm around Rory, pulled her in closer, kissed her own the head and the two began watching the sun as it began to set. Concluding what was probably the best father-daughter 2.0 day ever.
I hope this chapter makes up for the delay. I've been a little side-tracked.
What will happen next? What special surprise does Lucifer have waiting for Chloe after their wedding? Will Chloe's parents see Lucifer's pure love and devotion for their daughter? Find out next time. (This might take while too) Bye for now.
