Kuri is the mute sister of Sai, who was taken from her to the Foundation at birth. She also has dark powers that result in torment for herself and all of Konoha. With Sasuke at her side, can her soul be saved? Will she be the light in Sasuke eyes; which seem to see only Darkness?

22. Agony

"You…fell asleep, didn't you?" Reiko questioned Sasuke.

Sasuke just looked at her, agonized.

Reiko gripped his hand. "It's ok."

Sasuke bit his lip, panicking. "What if she's hurt? Or dead?"

Reiko grabbed his shoulders. "Calm down. She's fine. I promise."

Sasuke looked at her, trying not to cry. "How do you know?"

"Kuri's tough." Reiko smiled. "She's an Uchiha, after all."

Sasuke took a deep breath. "I know." He closed his eyes. "She's alive. I can sense her." His eyes flew open. "She's on the bridge. We've been guarding the bridge for weeks, and that's where she is. The phantom is targeting the bridge!" Sasuke turned to the campsite, where Naruto was standing with a weird look on his face. "Oi! Dobe! Cmon!"
