Chapter 14
Stevie was ravenous by the time she got back to the house. Her ride with Xander had been great, but having to unexpectedly muster four hundred sheep was not her favorite part of the day. Seeing Xander handle himself and the work with such ease and focus had been incredibly satisfying. He was as comfortable as Ben, or Bobby, or herself had been. Killarney would be in good hands for the next generation. Stevie had no doubt of that.
"Mom, what's for dinner? I'm starving."
He had eaten three sandwiches at lunch, and then eaten two more with tea, along with two apples and then, when they got back to the house, a whole bag of chips. Seriously, where did this kid put the food? Stevie wondered.
Ben had said goodbye and headed back to have dinner with Jaz and Kelly at Wilgul. Bobby often ate sinner on his own, so it was just her and Xander for dinner.
"Hey honey, what do you think about having dinner at the pub? I'm exhausted and feeling too lazy to cook. Plus, I think you deserve a celebration dinner. Between your rodeo win and the job you did with the sheep today, you deserve a treat." offered Stevie.
"Sounds great, Mom. I want to get a burger and a steak and double fries."
Of course he wants 2 meals. His appetite was insatiable, thought Stevie.
"Great. I'd love a mother-son date. Go shower up and change. Keep the shower to two minutes or less, we need to conserve water! I'm starving and don't want to wait too long to eat."
"Righto! I'll be quick."
Stevie thought a shower sounded excellent and she headed to her bathroom for the same thing.
