Chapter 17
Kate woke up early and knew exactly what she had to do. She was not going to be content planning her family's future from a distance. She needed to get onto Kinsella's property herself and start seeing what state everything was in, so she could make accurate lists. Four weeks was way too far from now. She also wanted to get right into interviewing prospective obstetricians.
She was up early. She had a cup of tea and some plain toast. She was lucky enough to keep it down without morning sickness. Russell was still asleep. She opened her macbook and checked out flight options. There was a flight from Adelaide to Fisher leaving that evening. She booked two seats and reserved a hired ute to be picked up at the Fisher airstrip.
She then decided to wake up Russell.
I know just how to wake him up, she thought, as she took off her clothes and climbed into bed to wake her sleeping husband.
"Good morning baby! I loved my special wake up." Russell murmured a little bit later.
"Good. Now it's time to get up. You need to pack. We're going to Gungellan." said Kate.
"Honey, your appointment in Gungellan isn't for over three weeks. I have plenty of time to pack." responded Russell.
"Well, I ..." Kate hesitated before telling him that she booked them on a flight for that night.
"Kate, what did you do? Did you go all "Kate" again? Is that why I got such a nice wake up?" asked Russell.
"I was trying to plan for the station, but I didn't know what the condition of the property was. It was killing me. I booked us on a flight to Fisher. It leaves at 5pm tonight. I've arranged to hire a ute on arrival." confessed Kate.
"Kate, you are supposed to talk to me before you plan trips, especially when they involve me, and leave on the same day," said Russell.
"I know. I'm sorry. I should have woken you up first to talk about it, but you looked so cute sleeping and I just hated not being able to have tangible data for my lists."
"Yes, I can imagine. Honey, I have plans tonight, remember? I was going to the footie match. Evan had a spare Crows ticket. I told him I'd go with him. I love you, and I love that you jump headfirst into things, but you should have checked with me first," said Russell.
"I know. I'll cancel the tickets. I'm acting crazy." said Kate.
"Yes, but you're cute when you do it. I'll call Evan and see if he can find another mate to take the ticket. I'm more of a NRL bloke, anyway."
"Thank you baby. Sorry I'm acting crazy. I like that you keep me from going too crazy when I get focused on something," said Kate.
