My Number's Up
I never believed in fate. Perhaps if things were different I would have.
But when I was a kid...well, I wasn't a kid. I had to take care of everything, do what had to be done. I had to make sure there was food in the fridge, the dishes were washed, the errands were run, the bills were paid, and I had to go to school, get good grades. I did what had to be done. Now that I was in high school I had to apply to college, and after that...it's just going to be the same.
When my alarm rang, I pressed the 'dismiss' button to turn it off and immediately got dressed. I have no idea if I'm a morning person or a night person. I looked into the fridge with my bowl of cereal in hand and jotted down what I needed. I would go to the Fairway in town after school. I rinsed my bowl when I was done so the flakes didn't stick to it, and grabbed the cash from the money jar and left.
I didn't switch schools much. Never, actually. Just this time, for my mom and her new husband. I knew mom wanted to travel with him and that I would be a hindrance so I moved in with my dad.
So today was my first new day but I didn't really care. Everyone else just blended into the background and I went about my way without looking twice. I pulled into the parking lot, and noticed right away people were looking at me. I turned to check if there was someone behind me. They were definitely looking at me. I pulled my hood over my head, slammed my truck's door shut, and marched to the school's office with my hands in my jacket's pockets.
After getting what I needed, I headed to my first class. The teacher began explaining what we would do this year and I was shocked to hear they were doing what I had finished doing much earlier in my other school. This was regular english and I had AP before, I reasoned in my head. With nothing to do I stared out the window, at nothing in particular.
The school was surrounded by the forest in Forks. I remembered seeing deer signs when I drove here. It was a little unsettling. I was after all raised in Arizona. But nothing ever happened in Forks.
I soon grew bored of looking out and wrote what I had to into my notebook, slowly, letter by letter. The entire morning was like that, but at least there was AP biology and P.E. Those required attention and kept me busy.
I went to lunch, got my food, and looked up to see every table was taken. Everyone were friends, or at least had found a place to belong.
"Hey!" A boy shouted. I jumped.
"...hey." I murmured.
"You're the new girl right?"
"Uh huh."
"I'm Mike, Newton. Wanna come sit with us?" I looked to where he gestured and a girl with glasses and another 'popular' looking girl were looking here, the rest, boys, engrossed in whatever one of them was holding. There was an empty seat and I didn't want to have my first experience eating in the girl's bathroom so I said, "Okay."
They questioned me about where I came from and kept me so busy I could barely eat. I'll just get something at the store if I was hungry. Some of the kids, whose names I've already forgotten, had the same biology class as I did so we walked to the classroom together.
I was given my seat, next to an odd-looking boy. He was handsome, and fit from what I could see with the tight thermal he wore. But his dark eyes pierced into mine and I felt like they were pulling me into the bottomless pits they seemed to be. I leaned back and blinked to regain control, and mumbled a 'sorry' as I took my seat next to him.
The teacher continued with his explanation for the entirety of the class, and the whole time he stared. It felt like his eyes were skinning me, dissecting me. It took an exorbitant amount of effort to keep facing forward. I was afraid of those eyes.
As soon as the bell rang, though, he took off. He was gone before everyone had gotten out of their seats.
"Woah, did you do something to him?" The boy who invited me to that lunch table said.
"No." I said. I wasn't even mad at him for questioning me.
"I forgot to warn you about him. He's weird."
"Yeah. I-I've got gym." I said, and left before I ran out of time to get there.
After gym was over, I had barely broken a sweat, I walk to my truck and turned when I thought I heard rustling. There was no one there obviously; it must have been the wind. I climbed into my truck and drove to the fairway, getting what I need and headed home.
On the highway I noticed the fog from this morning built up to a thick, blurry wall. I could see a few feet in front and behind me, but I gripped my steering wheel tightly to swerve when I needed too. A person who I immediately recognized appeared in front me. Before I could turn away, he grabbed the front of the car and flipped it, sending me over the rail. My truck hit the side of the hill and rolled down, banging me around, until it came to a stop on it's back.
"Geah..." I grunted. I could barely see, my head throbbed, but I pulled at whatever to get myself out before the truck exploded. As my vision cleared I remembered seeing him there and grabbing the truck to flip me over.
"Hey," I heard a voice say. I looked up and it was him, with a wide crazy grin on his face. He pulled me out, easily, and held me up to his face. His eyes bore into mine.
"Beautiful." He said. My mouth hung open. He proceeded to drag me me away, smoke coming out of my truck's engine, my body protesting. I had no idea if anything was broken but I was deeply sore all over.
"Engh-stop!"
"Shhhahhh!" He hissed. I quieted. He didn't sound human. He pulled me onto my feet and wrapped his arm around me and started walking again.
His arm was too strong for flesh and muscle, it was like stone. His chest was hard like stone, and his strides were wide like a galloping four-legged animal's. I wanted to ask where he was taking me but I knew he'd hiss again. Or worse. I drew in a shaky breath, the freezing cold had already seeped into my flesh, and it came out in a white puff.
We came to another hill and he jumped, I screamed, to the bottom. He banged me against the floor with a growl and I lay limp, my side screaming in pain. I ragged in a breath and from my peripheral I saw him looking down at me, his face full of sadness.
"It'll soon be over." He said through unmoving lips. It was the same voice as before, menacing, but with a different, sad, expression.
"I don't-we're already here!" He started to say then screamed. He's nuts!
He was quiet for a moment, but he looked like he was paying attention to something else as his eyes trailed down to my neck, and slowly pulled my jacket away. He then tore the shoulder of my t-shirt exposing my neck and shoulder. My breaths came and went faster.
"Yes..." He hissed. My eyes widened as that crazy grin slowly reappeared. He's just a kid in my class, he can't be doing this!
He licked his lips and quickly dove till he hovered and slowly dragged his cold tongue up my neck to my jaw. The cold bit me harder where it was wet. His face then grew angry and he pulled my jacket off. I screamed and fought to get my hands arms free while my mind focused on just getting free. I slipped from underneath and ran as fast as I could, regaining my balance quickly when I missed a step before I fell.
"Hide and seek, sounds like fun!" He said loudly, then cackled.
I have no idea where he went...do I go left?
I decided to take my chances and went left, running as fast as I could, praying that I would see the hill. It had gotten dark, and everything looked the same to me. The leaves of the trees rustled loudly above me. I heard a whipping sound, like something moving fast through the air, and the rustling then came from somewhere else.
"Gotcha!" He appeared in front of me in a crouch, hands at the ready. Before I could turn, I felt him grab a fistful of my hair and yanked me back.
"AHHH!" He grabbed my arms and pinned them down. Then he bit into me. It felt like I was being stabbed in the neck by two knives, but the pain that came after-
"AHHHHHHHHH!" I howled. The pain that came after was as if I were being roasted alive, from inside out.
I banged my fists against him and kicked my legs. His lips smacked loudly against my neck as he sucked my blood.
I screamed the loudest I ever had. I could taste my blood in my mouth. I struggled against him and his grip on my wrists tightened, tighter and tighter until they were crushed. I sobbed, my tears running down the sides of my face and pooling in my ears. He tore himself away, I could feel the cold air in the gashes but it did nothing to help the fire. I didn't stop screaming, I couldn't.
He tore my shirt and pants off of me and began biting my chest, torso, legs, tearing my flesh over and over. He held my thigh too tightly to himself, it snapped. Make it stop, STOP!
I heard him unzip his pants and he rammed into me. It tore, he tore me. He clawed at my face when I screamed at what he had done and I felt his fingernails scraping against my gums. I gasped for breath. I'm dying, he's going to kill me.
He thrusted over and over, my pelvic bone-I felt numbness coming on in that area, but I could feel his nails digging into my back. He could wrap his hands around my spine and snap it in half. His face hovered over mine as he huffed, and I felt his cold, sweet smelling breath on my cheek's gashes.
When he 'finished' he screamed a high-pitched growl, like a banshee, and tore my breasts to shreds and my thighs. Then he started digging into my abdomen. I gasped loudly, trying to breath. He grabbed my throat, his nails digging into me until he had his hand wrapped around my windpipe and pulled. Blood spurted out of my mouth and throat like a geyser, and I couldn't breathe or scream anymore.
Please listen to The Forsaken by Myuu. I hope it inspires you like it did me. It sounds like a horror version of the piano melody in Bella's lullaby played slowly. I hope you enjoyed.
If you've been here since the start of Desperation, I will write the crazy BDSM vampire world version, but I want this to be a collection of Dark Edwards, so just a heads up: Chapters will be rearranged, this short will be first, then Desperation and Desperation version 2. I know it's been a while, I'm sorry but I'm doing my best.
-EDIT- This installment has been edited, fixing small errors in spelling, grammar, and a few words have been added.
