My Number's Up- Psychotic/lovestruck Edward Part 2

Edward continued to make small talk but didn't touch me again. I eased up and was able to talk to him without forcing a smile. I never had a male friend before so I didn't have much to comparing him to, but he was sweet. As handsome as he was, he wasn't...overly confident. He was quiet but very energetic and excited like a much younger boy which I found I liked. And we actually had things in common.

"Yeah...I should get going to my next class." I said when the bell rang.

"I'll go with you, you're going my way." He said with a smile.

"A-alright...-"

"Hey Bella!" Mike called, then he just stared when he noticed who I was walking out with.

"I'll see you guys later, gym class." I said with a wave and walked out, getting out of the other's way who were trying to get out of the room.

"I would watch out for him, Isabella. Don't find yourself alone with him." He said anxiously.

"...um, I appreciate the thought." I said, not knowing what to say.

"So what's it like having the Chief of Police as a dad?" He continued as normal.

"You get the house to yourself pretty often."

"Really?"

"I like that part. What about you, about your parents?"

"I live alone. I'm emancipated." He said tensely.

"Oh...I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"

"Of course not, I know." He said, his smile back, and we continued down the hall with his arm around my shoulders, helping me avoid others rushing down the halls. I quickly started talking about my next classes and complained about gym class, trying to divert the conversation. He seemed to appreciate that.

"I hate sports, even though I'm good at them. I turned down an invitation to join the school team." He said.

"Oh. People must have not understood why."

"They didn't." He laughed. "Maybe that's why they think I'm weird."

"I don't think you're weird."

"Good, I'm glad." He said. We arrived at my history class door and his arm fell off my back. "I'll see you after school."

"After?"

"I'll be waving." He said with a bright smile, and waved as he stepped back. I chuckled and waved back before going into class. Afterwards, I looked for him in the hall but he wasn't there. But in the parking lot, true to his word, there he was. At his silver volvo, waving like we were old friends. I waved back with a matching grin. The first friend I made that I liked.

As soon as I got home I got dinner started and started my homework at the kitchen table.

"Hey Bells. Smells good in here." Charlie said when he got home.

"Hey. Dinner's almost done."

"Alright, I'll go get changed." I got up to check on the food while he went up the stairs. I raised the heat to speed up the cooking time, then served up my plate when the food was ready. I wondered if I should do the same for him but the thought of doing that made me feel awkward. Wouldn't it be rude if I didn't?

Two dinners were on the table by the time Charlie came back in comfortable clothes.

"Thanks." He said awkwardly. "So how was school?" He asked. I chewed my food and replaced the fork in my hand with my pen.

"Fine. I made friends."

"That's good. Most kids around here are nice but watch out for the bad apples. Do I know any of them?"

"Um...Jessica Stanley, Mike Newton I think, and Edward Cullen."

"Cullen?" He said like he was shocked. I got my defenses up.

"Yeah, why?"

"He seems like a nice kid but he's got a bad track record." I furrowed my eyebrows.

"What do you mean?"

"He's been arrested a few times in his home state. Then he moved here."

"He's from another-Dad, I don't think you should be telling me this." I said. I couldn't believe what he was saying. Him?

"Probably, but you're my daughter. Just be careful."

"Alright, I will." I said to prevent him from saying anything else. Thankfully he started talking about his day. I 'hmm'd when I had to give a response until Dinner was over and went up to my room to finish my homework. Now I was curious. Arrested for what? I wasn't sure I could ask.

The next morning Edward was... wasn't there. I looked around, but he wasn't parked somewhere else. And there was no one I could ask about his whereabouts. So I went about my day as normal, trailing along behind Jessica, Mike and the others. I was still just pretending with them, they were still strangers to me. I wondered if I continued this, I wouldn't have to pretend someday. And maybe I could introduce Edward and he wouldn't be alone either.

"Hey Bella! Wanna go to La Push?" Mike said.

"What?" I asked.

"I said if you wanna do to La Push. It's a beach up on the Rez." He said.

"La Push, baby. It's La Push." Eric said.

"O-kay... I know where that is."

"We're all going together this weekend," Jessica added.

"So you wanna go?" Mike asked with a glowing face.

"Um, yeah sure." Thank goodness it would be cold. Wearing a bathing suit would be so awkward.

There was no sign of Edward all day. Or the next, and next day after that. Soon it was saturday. I waited outside on my doorstep, wearing my thick brown jacket, for Mike to roll up in his parent's van. We would drive to a store to get some food before going to the beach. Happy I was going out with friends for once, I changed my hairstyle, parting my hair in the middle rather than sweeping the front section to the side.

"Hey Bella!" Eric shouted and was practically laying on Mike to reeach the horn and honked it twice. I laughed through my grin and jogged down the driveway.

"Let's go!" I said. The side door of the van opened and Angela scooched over for me. As soon I closed the door, we were off.

We got some soda, and an array of chips at the store and continued down the road to La Push beach, angsty music playing loudly. It had been a long time since I've been here. The beach was beautiful and it looked the same, as if time had never passed. My friend's cries for help called me back and I turned to help carry our things over to the logs while the girls ran from the boys.

There wasn't really much to do here, unless you went swimming, but make a bondfire and sit around it. We did just that, sipped our sodas and talked about whatever.

"S'pretty cool huh?" Mike said.

"uh-the fire, yeah, it is."

"You and Edward seem to be hitting it off."

"Oh, I don't know. Not like that, I don't think."

"Reall,"

"Mm-hmm."

"That's good. Hey, there's something in your hair.

"What?" I asked, trying to feel for it.

"I got it," He leaned in until the tip of his was nearly touching my cheek. He was looking at my hair one second, then he glanced at me. In the next second, his lips were on mine. I pushed him hard, he fell off the log onto the sand, and stormed off. I wiped my lips roughly with my sleeve and walked to the edge of the water where the light of the fire didn't reach. Soon, Angela came to see if I was okay. I told her what happened, asked not to say anything, and she volunteered to make up a story that will make everyone pack up. I was in the backseat with her, on my way home in no time.

The next day, Edward was still gone. I sighed and slammed the door to my truck. I wasn't hung up on him. I think I was just excited he was 'weird' too.

The day went on normally, until I saw Mike, with a busted lip, scratches and bruises on his face walking down the hall in my direction. When he looked up and saw, he swerved to side to get away from but caught up with him and pulled on his sleeve.

"Mike, what happened?"

"Did you tell Edward what happened?"

"What? What are you talking about?"

"Nothing, just forget it. Stay away from me, Swan." He said, and pulled his arm away and walked off. Is he saying Edward did this? No. No way. If anything Edward warned me about Mike and I didn't listen.

In history class, Jessica and Lauren were giving me the stink eye and I overheard them talking about how quickly I got real close to the boys. I turned away and started sweating. No. This wasn't happening.

None of them spoke to me when I saw them at lunch. When I came by their table they pretended not to see me. Like I didn't exist. Biting my tongue I moved on, saved some of my lunch and dumped my tray. I went to the library to eat instead and got some of my homework done. I wished I could move again.

I longed for biology class. I'd see Edward then and I wouldn't be alone. But he wasn't there. I could almost hear the entire world laughing at me.

School couldn't be over soon enough. As soon as class was over, I rushed to my truck to get out of here.

"Bella, wait. Why are you in such a rush?" Edward asked.

"Edward,"

"What happened? You look sad," I tried to force the tears back.

"Hey, why don't you come to my place. You don't have to go home right away, do you?"

"No, not really. That sounds nice actually. Let me just call my dad."

"Well... don't tell him you're coming over, or he'll kill me."

"He might kill me too." I joked. Dad quickly picked up the phone and I told him I would be staying at school a little longer and he said he'd take care of dinner for once.

" 'kay, see you later. Let's go-wait, my car. I'll follow you there." I said. We got into our cars and he pulled out first. I followed closely behind him to Port Angeles, only an hour away. We stopped at a run down apartment building where he told me he had cheaper rent because he did repairs when the tenants needed something.

"Oh, cool." I said, a little impressed. I followed him up the rickety stairs to the last floor. He opened the door with his key and locked up behind us. There was two locks then a dead bolt. This was a less classy side of Port Angeles.

"Let me give you a tour," He said, practically giddy. "That's the kitchen, and behing the door is the bathroom. It sucks it's in the kitchen but what can you do." He said nervously. "Living room, obviously. And...this is my room." He opened the door to reveal an obviously boyish room, painted blue with black bedding that had band logos all over it, some graffiti here and there, but he clearly tried to pick up before. There wasn't any clothes strewn about and his nightstand was clear except for some pink candles and roses in a vase.

"Like them?" He asked, pointing to the flowers.

"Um, yeah..."

"Good, they're for you."

"What for?" I asked, then my stomach sank. Surely I was just a friend to him. He was the only friend I had now.

"Nothing, just cuz I wanted to. Sit," He said, gesturing to his bed then turned on the TV in his room. "Want something to drink?"

"Sure," I said, to be nice. He disappeared into the kitchen, and I sat on the edge of his bed. I watched him get a glass and fill it with red juice from a pitcher he got in the fridge. I turned to the TV and pretended like I wasn't watching him.

"Here you go," He handed me the glass wrapped in a napkin that absorbed the condensation.

"Thanks. So you live alone here?"

"Yeah," he said, still really happy.

"Doesn't it get lonely?"

"Sure, but I just blast music or play video games."

"I see." I drank half of the punch because I was thirsty and it tasted good.

"I could put on a movie?" He offered.

"Can we play games?"

"Yeah!"

Hello everyone, I was a bit busy with work. Hours are crazy sometimes and sometimes I get called in plus I was stumped. I'm going to finish this short soon, maybe one chapter left, and start writing that salacious darkward fic now that I finished my other twific.
