The Underground Chapter Three
"I have to cover our tracks somehow or they'll sniff us out. And I don't want any competition." He swerved to the left, half of the highway going north, and continued south.
"How do we do that?"
"Hmm...They'll be looking for my car, so we have to vanish in another way. What name do you want to be your alias?"
"Uh- Bella, I guess."
"No, they'll search for all variations of your name including nicknames andm iddle names. Make something up."
"Um...Viviane Darci." I said, combining the two names I liked. He took out his phone and dialed a number without looking.
"Jenkins, I have a job for you but first you must agree to not release any information to my family. Good. I need you to draw up two passports and create an offshore bank account on my behalf. I'll send you the photos. Use the names Viviane Darci and Athan Darci. No, it's not ideal. I'll be by to pick it up by then." He hung up put it back into his pocket. He's creating fake documents. Good, then Charlie will give up the search soon.
He continued south, past a few more towns, then we were out of there and driving by a river or lake. I didn't know. I didn't ask where we were going, it didn't matter. His mood changed too, he was still whereas before he was stressed and clearly in a rush. I, on the other hand, was fidgety. We've been driving for a long time, over an hour now.
We drove through a community here and there before it was just trees again, linning the way. Another hour later, we were amidst another when I noticed we were following the signs that would lead us to Squamish Harbor. I wondered if we were taking a boat to the land on the other side, but the road turned into a bridge that ran across the body of water.
"Whoa! That's so cool!" He glanced at me, and probably thought I was crazy, but I'd never seen anything like it.
He continued to drive silently and I wondered what he was thinking about. We drove into another town and I immediately noticed the difference between here and Forks. Even though the area was small, it had more stores and conveniences than Port Angeles.
"Remember your name. From now on I'll call you Viviane in public, but when we're alone I'll call you Bella." He said.
"O-okay." I never called him by his name since he kidnapped me, and I wasn't afraid of him, still, did this mean it was okay to call him Edward?
"A-are you hungry, Edward?"
"No. Are you?"
"A little. I can hold it though."
"Good. I have to change your appearance before I can stop." He pulled up against a large department store and put his sunglasses on. His stress came back and he stated tapping the wheel.
"Why is it so sunny today..." He nearly growled.
"...what do you need from there?"
"Clothes, for you and me."
"You can't use a card or take out any money either-"
"I know that." There was only one other way. Shoplifting.
"I can...I can go in alone." He looked me up and down. "I won't run or tell anyone. If I get clothes that I wouldn't normally wear and take stuff without alarms, No one would recognize me on the camera footage and no alarm would sound. No one would notice or remember a girl like me." He stared at me in silence for a moment.
"Go in without your jacket." At that, I unzipped it and took it off. He suddenly reached over, pulled the hair band out, and brushed my hair forward with his long fingers to obscure my face. I wasn't sure if it was that his hands were ice cold or that he was just touching me that caused my scalp to tingle. I stared at him for a moment, wishing that this beautiful man would kiss me, before I realized I was and climbed out of the car.
I entered the store like I normally would. There was a security guard by the door and he merely smiled at me with a nod. I smiled back and continued forward heading straight for the junior's clothing section. I was a typical customer who knew what they were coming for and would get out just as fast as I came in.
In school, a lot of the girls dressed in the same trying-to-be-fashionable while keeping within the dress code style. There were a few girls like that here now. I figured it was different enough from my practical style. Then again, I could cover up my age with clothes and some make up. I should do that since they'd be looking for a meek teen girl. I walked through junior's to the women's section. I quickly noticed there was a lot of crimson red. I guessed it was the new trending color.
I found a black leather jacket with a diagonal zipper, a red shirt, black skinny jeans, and black ankle boots with a chunky heel. There wasn't a sale associate in the fitting room, and it was a mess so people must have gone through without being assisted with no problem. I grabbed a large cable knit sweater and drapped it over my haul before entering. I quickly changed clothes, took the tags off and walked out with my old clothes covered with the sweater. There was a cash wrap in the middle of the store with no one to be seen, so I took two paper bags and put my clothes in one. I quickly looked in the mirror to see if I had success. It changed my shape, though the baggy clothes I always wore just hid my figure. Maybe makeup would help me look more grown up...
I went to the makeup 'bar' and pretended to look at the products like the other women. When I thought no one was looking, I grabbed a circular pad and picked up as much powder foundation as I could and applied it using one of the little mirrors. That alone made me look different to myself. I discarded that and moved on to the lipsticks, feeling safer. I have to hurry, he's been waiting for a while now...
I swatched some red lipsticks on my arm before picking one and trying it on.
"Hey, that looks good!" I nearly jumped out of my skin.
"Oh-uh, you think so?"
"Absolutely, you have the lips for it-how can I help you?" She turned to the customer who got her attention and took the opportunity to leave before she tried to sell the lipstick to me. Now, clothes for Edward.
I had no idea how to dress up a guy, or what Edward would like to wear, but I knew he'd look good in a leather jacket. He was also last seen wearing blue jeans so maybe I should get black. I put those two items into my other bag and started to the exit on the other side of the store, grabbing a pair of sunglasses as I passed the pillar. I slipped them on to cover my eyes and ignored the security guard's gaze. I turned and walked a few steps normally, checking to see if anyone was in the parking lot before brisk walking around the building. As soon as I was around, I ran to where the car was parked. I was climbing back in when he grabbed my arm.
"What took you so long?!"
"I-I'm sorry. It wasn't easy finding things..."
"I thought you had run off,"
"I said I wouldn't," He stared at me for a moment, lowered his eyes a little, then started the car. "You did good. Even I barely recognized you." I had to put in a lot of effort to avoid grinning.
He drove for a little while until we reached a beauty supply store that sold wigs as well.
"Now I have to steal a wig?" I wasn't sure if I could do that, my blood still ran cold from before.
"Not this time. Look straight ahead," He order and climbed into the backseat, taking the bag of his new clothes with him. Shit. I trained my eyes onto the intersection a few meters in front of us and watched the cars drive in all four directions. I sighed when he climbed back to the front. I was right, he did look good.
"Let's go," I followed and he grabbed my hand, and we walked hand-in-hand into the store. We ignored everything else, and went straight to the wigs. There was one in hot pink, a few with ombre of varying hair styles, and a few black ones.
"What of that one," He pointed to the black wig with the longest hair length.
"Can I help you with anything?" A lady asked.
"Can I try that one?" I asked.
"Sure," She took the head down and pulled the wig off. I took the sunglasses out of my hair and she helped me put it on. It had a middle part and it's ends were cut so it wasn't a straight line across. It was really long, it stopped just where the curve of my butt did.
"Whoa...this looks awesome," I felt a slight twinge in my heart but at the same time, I loved the new look. Edward and I looked alike now.
"We'll take it." He said.
I'm a day late, but at least I'm not a month late. Was this kinda boring? Do please tell me if I missed a mispelling, if a phrase doesn't make sense or if it's loosing it's charm. I want this to be kickass and never wane. Thank you xxxWishfulThinkingxxx and Onlinereader35 for favoriting and following!
