Mana wasn't kidding. The burn settled in his skin as soon as he reached Kansas. He was running there in wolf form, sticking to back alleyways and corn fields (yes, real corn fields)
It was like an itch that he couldn't scratch. He was hot, all the time, and furiously snap-happy.
He took the medicine sparingly, as he didn't have time to make it for himself. She needed him.
Jacob would have to swallow the pain. He could do it. For her.
He was normally quite fast, but having to stop for ice baths and cold showers slowed him down a bit.
So when he reached Dallas, standing at her window and staring longingly in at her, the air had a chilly bite to it, and when he stood at the window, he felt calm and comfortable for the first time in his six month journey.
And when he saw her from the shadows, and her blue-green gaze met his brown wolf eyes, a ripple filled his form and he found himself standing nakedly in the dark, feeling more human than he had since he'd first phased.
