Chapter 67

Moira smiled. She hadn't spent much time with Stevie recently. After she married Phil, she had left Drovers and started to build a life with him. Things between them were still going well, too, but she was delighted when she heard from Stevie. It was always good to catch up with old friends.

Stevie wanted to compete in the demolition derby, but Stevie had no idea how to build a demo car, so Moira was there to do most of it. They had pulled an old Lincoln Towncar from the junk heap. It ran and drove, but it was ugly as hell and didn't do much else.

Stevie gave Moira the list of all the safety requirements. "Here you go. I went through most of them with Terry and Matt. That's when I called you. I'm in over my head."

"No sweat. We've got this, as long as you're willing to help me," said Moira.

"I actually had some other helpers in mind too," said Stevie.

"Who are you thinking?"

"Xander and Blake? They're on school holidays and I figured it might be good for them to learn a bit of mechanics," replied Stevie.

"Sure. Sounds great. They can do some of the tough, physical tasks an old lady like me doesn't want to do anymore," said Moira.

"Great. They should be here in a few minutes. They were just finishing breakfast."

Claire had texted Blake. She had exchanged numbers with him the night before at the barbeque and wanted to know what he was up to today, but he hadn't responded.

Claire wasn't sure what to do next. She liked Blake, and she wanted to hang out with him, but she didn't know where he might be. She waited for about an hour and then decided he was probably with Xander. She didn't want to text Blake again and look desperate, so she texted Xander instead.

"Hey what up. What R U up 2?" she sent Xander.

"Building the demo car"

"cool can i help?" Claire typed back.

"I guess."

Claire ran out to the stables and saddled up Parker to ride over. She saw Matt out in the garage working on the demo car with Terry.

"Hey, I'm going to go to Killarney to help Xander build a demo car. I'm going to take Parker and cut through the fields. I'll be sure to close the gate in the far pasture behind me," Claire said.

"Building the enemy's car? Claire! You traitor!" Matt teased. "I'll let your mom know where you are. Be home for dinner and make sure that gate is shut."

Claire rolled her eyes. "I just said I would shut it, Uncle Matt."

"Good. Have fun, traitor," he said as she rode off.

Claire couldn't have cared less about building a demo car. She just wanted to watch Blake build a demo car.
