I want to complete my WIPs. So let's see if I get to complete this one and maybe the Rolleigns Fairytale AU. For now I'm just going to try to correct the spelling of the chapters that I already have published here, and see how it goes from there. I know nobody reads these things, maybe bc the fandom is dead or bc I am not good at this. Still, I love the fandom, and tbh, I've been having a good time, I'm in a good place (emotionally) I'm just happy and want to keep doing the things I like, even if it's only me enjoying them.
In a dystopian future, a man who called himself The Chosen One kept an entire city under a dictatorship. He was in control of all the technological resources in that place, so it had been impossible to overthrow him until now.
The only thing people knew about this man is that 30 years ago, along with three other people, he founded a company that now kept everything and everyone under control. That, little by little, he got rid of all his associates until he became the sole owner of that place. He had acquired political and technological power and was now feared by all.
Nobody knew the face of that man. All record of his past and his life had been erased by himself. And he always appeared before them with a mask that covered most of his head. The only thing that was noticeable was that he had cybernetic parts due to an accident that occurred 27 years ago. People speculated that the accident had disfigured his face and left him hairless, but those were all rumors. The people of that place did not know his real name, or the way he looked, anyways he was the owner of their lives.
Until an army of angry citizens was formed, and neighboring towns were allied with, they all formed a civil war that lasted several months and managed to overthrow the villain. There were many deaths but that night finally, the city gained its freedom.
The army consisted of many young men from that city and surrounding places, most of those guys weren't even born when this man started his business. The rebels arrived at that man's headquarters. The army leader, a young man named Roman and his partner a man named Dean, entered the main offices, as the rest of the army had defeated that man's entire armed guard and were taking over the rest of the building.
Roman pointed his gun straight at the man's masked face, Dean was watching Roman's back.
"Your reign of evil and murder is over." Roman sentenced.
"Maybe, but I won't be the only one losing this battle." Said the cybernetic voice.
Roman was about to pull the trigger but before that happened there was a shooting, one of the surveillance robots triggered a machine gun at Roman who dodged the blast.
But that served for the dictator to capture Dean immobilizing him from behind.
"Just give up and let him go. You no longer have any power here, you are defeated." Roman said scared.
"I know I am already defeated, but I will not allow you to use my body as a trophy. There will be nothing for you to show off your supossed victory." The Chosen One indicated. "You will lose everything tonight Roman."
Roman ran towards him but it all happened so fast. The Chosen One shot Dean, with a weapon that managed to pierce his vest and having achieved his goal, he threw a mortally wounded Dean to the floor. Roman was distracted by trying to help Dean and The Chosen One took advantage of that moment, detonated a device that caused his entire body to be destroyed, to leave nothing so that the resistance couldn't humiliate him even more.
"The Chosen One even took away our right to take revenge on him. He's killed himself." Dean said weakly. "We won't even be able to know who he is."
Roman reached down and took off his helmet and took the helmet off his partner. "Dean... baby..."
"Those weapons were stronger than our vests..." Dean could barely speak.
Roman watched desperately as the bullets had pierced the vest and Dean's chest was bleeding non-stop.
"Roman." A voice on the intercom from his vest called out to him, but Roman could only pay attention to Dean. "Roman, we are scanning the tower and there are no more enemies inside. We did it!"
Dean smiled sadly. "We did it then, Big Dog. Even though it's a bittersweet victory. You know what? You and I were always the best team."
"Dean, I have to take you to a doctor." Roman tried to move the auburn-haired man's body.
"You shouldn't do that, I think it won't work." Dean was trying to get Roman to listen to him.
"Of course it's going to work, I'm not going to lose you." Roman seemed desperate. "This damn war is useless if I lose you."
"You get to set this place free, that can't be useless. And still, we get to meet eachother and fell in love, you won Roman." Dean tried to comfort his lover. "I love you, I will always love you, please Roman, none of this is your fault. I love you but you must accept that this is the goodbye, you must move on, do it for me, Big Dog."
"I'm not going to lose you. No matter what happens here, I don't care about anything. I love you and I'm not going to lose you."
Roman looked at the chaos around him. All of his fellow battle mates were injured, some of them even killed. He focused his gaze on that building: Z & B Industries. Everything was in ruins, they had managed to pass the defenses of the building and now that man's reign of evil was over.
But the price they paid was too high.
At that moment, vehicles arrived and the person who communicated with Roman also arrived at the scene.
"Sam... Sami, please take care of Roman, don't let him do anything stupid. I'm the crazy one, not him. Roman is the best part of me, take care of him, make him understand that he must move on."
Roman started crying and kissed Dean. The auburn-haired man kissed him back, sharing their love for the last time.
Six months later...
"Doesn't this make us the same as them?" Sami looked curiously at the shiny little watch-shaped device in his hands. "We are using the same technology that they used to enslave us."
"No, this time travel technology was still in development when we destroyed them." Roman explained. "They never used this."
"Exactly, those who created this technology could never perfect their own creation. They couldn't even test it." Sami indicated. "And we are going to do it?"
"Dean died because of him!" Roman insisted. "If the Damned One had come to perfect this type of technology, it would have been the end of humanity. But we stopped him and with that we prevented a future that could be even worse... Anyway, the price we paid was too high. The price that I paid, that Dean paid, was too much."
"But we did it. We changed the future. They couldn't use this technology and neither should we. I don't even know if this will work." Sami insisted.
"It will." Roman assured. "Six months ago we fought the future and now that damn bastard will not have access to this technology. Now, you and I have this incredible resource and we won't use it to change the future, we will change the past."
Sami sighed. "Roman, I get it. I loved Dean like a brother, but I'm scared. This is not what Dean wanted, he told me to help you move on, not to let you do something stupid and what we are doing is something that Ambrose, who everyone called a lunatic, would not have done."
"Do you really think he wouldn't have done the same for me?" Roman looked him in the eye.
Sami couldn't answer him. Roman smirked, it was the end of this discussion.
"This plan is stupid." Sami muttered. "I'm going to send you to your death, we don't know if this can work. This technology was their project and we don't understand it."
"That's not true, you have been able to understand it and that made me realize that life was giving me another chance and I am not going to waste it." Roman insisted.
"We should have told the rest of the troop." Sami said in frustration. "Maybe they would have helped us, because there are so many variables here, even if everything goes fine and you achieve your goal, we don't know if that would change anything here at the moment."
"Let's find out then." Roman pursed his lips.
"What if you achieve your goal but what you don't get is to come back?" Sami closed his eyes imagining such a thing.
"Whatever happens, Dean will be alive and that's what I want the most." Roman was trying to contain his emotions.
"This is not going to work, if one of my calculations fails, I will lose you too." Sami said with concern.
"You lost me when Dean died. This is the only chance to get one of us back." Roman smiled empathetically. "And you know you prefer Dean."
Sami couldn't help tears. "Okay, you win, big dog. You're supposed to go back 30 years, when Z & B Industries showed up, you have to find out who The Chosen One is and kill him before he becomes a threat."
"I will do it." Roman took the small device in his hands.
"It is almost funny, you are 25 years old and you are going to arrive in this same city, long before your birth, if everything works, off course." Sami pursed his lips.
"I wasn't born here anyway." Roman indicated. "I arrived when I was 15. Don't worry, I won't have any chance of meeting any of my relatives."
Sami smiled resignedly at him. "Dean would kill me if he knew I am allowing you this."
"Things are never that easy. But I can't stop you, can I?" Sami sighed and started the device. "Remember that you know how the watch works and how to take care of it."
"I know." Roman said goodbye.
A light enveloped Roman and the Samoan felt as if his skin was being ripped off. He screamed, but his voice was not heard. Sami was terribly scared, suspecting that this was not going to turn out as expected.
Roman woke up with pain all over his body. It was as if he had been hit by a truck. The first thing he saw was the face of a man younger than himself, looking at him curiously.
"Are you okay?" The other man asked.
Roman looked around and behind the young man, there were three other men in very colorful clothes.
"Wow, this is the first time our captain is interested in someone other than the bastard." Said one of the three men.
And from the way that man said it, Roman knew they weren't calling that man a bastard for nothing.
"This is a good sign. This one is very handsome." The other laughed. "I think that he is the one for our captain."
"He has a very weird fashion sense." Said the third looking at Roman's clothes. "But I bet he's better than that asshole. Anyone's better than that asshole."
The man holding Roman pouted. "Can you please not spill my personal problems..."
Roman sat down helped by the young man and did not recognize his surroundings. He looked at his right hand and there was the watch.
"My name is Seth." The man holding him smiled kindly. "These are my friends: Koffi, Xavier and E."
Roman noticed then that he was in an alley and it was night.
"You passed out on the street." Seth continued. "Need help?"
Roman nodded. "What day is today?"
They all looked at each other curiously.
"November 18th..." said Seth.
"What year is it?" Roman asked.
Seth was worried. Perhaps this man had lost his memory.
Xavier showed the cell phone screen and Roman looked at the date in horror: November 18, 2021. Roman closed his eyes in despair. Something went wrong in the calculations.
"I arrived one year earlier than expected." Roman said disappointed. "I can't afford to wait a whole year."
Roman touched the watch trying to adjust it but it didn't work, it was off.
The Samoan panicked. "This can not be happening."
"We can fix your watch... maybe." Seth said looking at the strange device. "It seems like it's something important to you."
"That is the weirdest watch I've ever seen." Kofi replied. "Everything about you is weird, man."
Roman gave up. He had to repair the watch to fast-forward a year and even then maybe that travel would go wrong too. Sami was right, they hadn't mastered that technology yet.
"That guy won't be around for a year. And I can't look for the bastard right now because I don't know who the hell he is!" Roman said in pure frustration.
"What you said doesn't make sense." Seth laughed.
"Of course not, for none of you it would make sense." Roman closed his eyes in frustration.
"We can help you." Seth insisted.
Kofi, Xavier, and Big E looked at each other and smiled. Seth shot them an accusing look.
Roman took a look at the four boys, they were obviously younger than him. They also seemed a bit naive. None of these guys would believe that in the next 30 years, this place would grow so much and become the golden cage that Roman fought to set free.
"My name is Roman". The Samoan finally got to his feet and started walking.
Seth and the others began to follow him. "Are you okay? I mean you passed out not long ago."
Roman was going to say something but his stomach growled. The Samoan wondered how long he had gone without food... 30 years perhaps.
"I don't even have resources to get food, amazing... I didn't think of anything important." Roman looked at his watch in frustration.
"Again. We can help you." Seth kept walking beside him.
Roman pursed his lips. This was not the time to get picky. He was trapped in a place he know nothing about, in the wrong year, with no resources, no one to help him, and a damaged time travel device.
"Yes, I need help."
If someone read this. Thank you very much. And remember that my fics are not always what they seem to be. There's always some kind of plot twist.
