It's October of 2020, but the wildfires and worldwide pandemic never happened. We return to Gungellan for a modern reboot of our beloved McLeod's Daughters. The cattle stations of Drovers Run and Killarney are still working farms, and Wilgul has found a new life. Time has passed, but the love flowing around Drovers Run has never faltered.

Chapter 76

Kate napped for a couple hours, but woke up hungry. She checked her phone. It was nearly 6pm. The McLeods would be serving dinner shortly.

As she was getting ready, Russell came in.

"Hey, Honey. You told me to wake you up for dinner, so that's what I was coming to do," he said.

"My stomach worked as my alarm clock. I'm awake and starving," admitted Kate.

"Well, you did lose your lunch and breakfast. Your stomach is probably pretty ready for something," said Russell.

"Yeah, these two seem to eat a lot, but only want to keep half of it," said Kate, rubbing her belly where the twins were growing.

"Kate, are you okay? It was kind of weird before with Dave. I knew he was an ex, but I thought it had been long since settled, and over," asked Russell.

"It's fine. I was just really taken by surprise. As was he, I reckon," answered Kate.

"So, you don't still have any feelings for him or anything? I don't need to be worried right?" Russell asked, looking a little nervous.

"Russell, I love you more than anything in the world. I only want to be with you. I acted really weird because I felt guilty. I broke Dave's heart and I feel awful about it. All I could feel was sorry for Dave. His ex-girlfriend shows up pregnant with a super sexy husband. There was a time when I had really strong feelings for Dave and he is a good person. I'm not in love with him anymore, but I still feel badly about hurting him. I'd never shattered someone's heart before. It's not a great feeling," explained Kate.

"Okay, then. I won't worry. I trust you. Matt said that Dave was married, and had a couple little boys, so it sounds like he did recover from his heartbreak," said Russell.

"You have nothing to worry about. Puking my brains out wasn't the best way to prepare to see an ex after so many years. Sorry for the awkwardness," said Kate.

"It's okay. I understand. If I saw my ex, unexpectedly, especially while vomiting, I might get pretty awkward too. I love you, Kate," said Russell.

"I love you too. Now, let's go eat. The twins are demanding food," replied Kate.
