Street stood for a second, Molly's angry eyes burring into him as he suddenly realised the so many ways, he had stuffed up here. He should have definitely told Molly he was going to check on Chris. He could completely see why she was upset and mad.
He looked up at her. "Molly, I'm sorry, I should have called and told you, I.. I…" he was trying to form his words, trying to de escalate the situation. As she began to tug her arm free, his phone began beeping. It was a page alert from SWAT HQ. Street rolled his eyes and cursed "Shit! Really?"
"Go, Jim, just go!" Molly said angrily pointing to the door. "Go to work they need you!" She added as she walked away and closed the bathroom door loudly.
He looked down at his feet. He knew that Chris was pissed at him too and that he was at fault. He shouldn't have put her in the position that he did, both in the locker room asking her, "Does me being with Molly upset you?" and just minutes ago pushing her about that kiss again.
"Fuck!" He cursed, "What am I doing? What was I thinking?" He stood up straight lifting his hand to run through his hair as finally he understood the hurt and anger he had caused both Chris and Molly.
As he glanced back up through to the bathroom door, he needed to try and apologise again. He swallowed and walked to the bathroom door and knocked. "Molly?" There was silence. He chewed his lip. He knew he couldn't ignore that call in, but he didn't want to just leave knowing Molly was this angry.
"Okay, I get you are pissed at me right now and I know I completely deserve that. I am sorry. I should have told you where I was going and that I'd be late. I, I didn't do anything with the aim of upsetting you. Please believe that." He paused listening. He could hear her sniff. He figured she was probably crying. "Molly, please. I am not going in till you open this door." He tried firmer.
"Yes you are!" She answered in a low shaking voice. "Just go! I need some space."
"Please! Molly!" He begged resting his forehead on the door as his phone began to ring again. "Shit" He cursed. It was the Commander. "It's your dad." He said.
"Then you better hurry up and go." She answered.
"Sir?" Street answered it walking back to the lounge room. "Yes, of course. I am on my way." He slid the phone back in his pocket and grabbed his bag.
"Downtowns lost power, the mayor is recalling all of SWAT in case something pops up or anyone tries to take advantage of the situation." He paused and couldn't hear her respond. "I gotta go, but Molly, please know that I, I am sorry." He called as he headed out.
As Chris started her truck she knew going in now and seeing Street was going to be painful. She spent the drive preparing herself. Telling herself to be professional. She had done it before. Pushed him away and he survived. Why would this be any different. As she muttered to herself and drove, she didn't register the light ahead change. Her truck ploughed straight into the side of a courier truck. The screeching of brakes, shattering glass and a piercing ringing sound were all she remembered before things went black.
The team were grabbing their things from their lockers when Hondo banged open the door.
"Rolling out in 5, let's move."
Street nodded as Hondo turned and walked back out taking Luca with him.
"Hey, where's Chris?" Asked Deac looking at Street
"I, I dunno," he said with worry in his voice. "I can't see her ignoring the call, I'm sure she will be here."
Tan frowned and patted Streets back, "Yeah, let's hope so. It's not like her to be late and being late now won't to go over well for the selections next week."
Street nodded and as Tan disappeared shot a worried look at Deac.
"I hope she is okay." He mumbled.
"Why wouldn't she be?" Deac asked almost nonchalantly until he realised the worry on Street's face. He stepped closer. "Hey what's ah, what's going on?"
Street glanced down and bent over to do up his lace. "We um, we had a disagreement I guess." He paused. "I mean, I think I really put my foot in my mouth and said some stuff I shouldn't have, and I don't think she wants to see me right now."
Deac studied the little he could of Streets face. "Disagreement? Said stuff? Like what?"
Street waved his hand dismissively as he stood up, "I was just trying to be supportive, she is struggling, and I wanted to be there for her. I wanted her to open up to me and talk about where she is at and how she is feeling, but I think I said all the wrong stuff." He paused again acknowledging to himself that asking her what he had yesterday and last night was not fair, just like she had said and that she every right to be pissed at him. "She um, got really upset and told me to leave."
Deac pursed his lips and frowned resting his hand on his belt.
"Well if she had that kind of 0-100 reaction, I'd say your right. You must have really said something stupid for her to tell you, of all people, to leave." Deacon looked at Street. He sat looking sad and nodded.
"Yeah, I did. Like I said she won't speak to me for a while now." With that Street stood up and moved to the door. As Deacon closed his locker and followed, he made a mental note to check in with her when she got in.
When Hondo closed the doors of Black Betty and the seat next to Street was still vacant, he couldn't help but feel like something was really wrong. As they drove and Hondo started listing off the case, he was interrupted by his phone ringing.
"Hondo," he answered, "When? Where?" The look of concern covered every inch of this face. "How is she?" Street and Deacon exchanged concerned glances watching Hondo react like that. "Okay, which hospital?" He locked eyes with Street as he lowered his phone.
"Chris was in an MVA on her way in. She is on her way to LA Memorial. That's all I know." He patted Luca's back. "Let's get this done so we can go check on her."
Throughout their mission they all worried about Chris. What state is she in? What the hell happened? Will she be okay? Raced through all of their heads on repeat. But with Hondo and Deac keeping Street, Tan and Luca in check the mission was a success and it wrapped up in just under an hour.
As Luca handed the last of their suspects over to uniforms, the team huddled at the back of Black Betty.
"Hicks is at LA Memorial now, checking in on Chris," Hondo explained watching their worried faces stare back at him. "He should be able to update us soon on how she is. But in the meantime, we need to get back to HQ, finish up the paperwork and be ready for more calls. This rolling blackout is unnerving and may lead to more lowlifes popping their heads up to take advantage. And unfortunately, we are all still active until the mayor says otherwise."
Tan shared a worried frown with Street. He knew that he would be desperately wanting to go see her. As they all moved to get packed up, he patted Street's shoulder.
"Hey man, she is tough, I am sure she will be okay."
Street nodded. His head swirled with worry though.
As the next few hours kept them busy with more calls, daylight rolled around. Hicks sat tapping his foot and reading paperwork in the hospital waiting room.
"Dad?" Molly's voice broke his gaze from the files he was reading. She was staring at him confused. "Why are you here? Is everything okay?"
Molly walked quickly towards him, in her pencil skirt and blouse. Hicks could see his daughters' panicked glances around the waiting area.
"I was just coming to speak with one of the clients I am helping, and I saw you sitting there."
"Molly," Hicks said firmly grabbing her shoulders. "Stop and breathe."
Molly exhaled, looking down. She inhaled slowly and looked up at her father. "Jim is fine, he is out with his team." He reassured her.
"Then?"
"Do you not think I would call you if Jim were hurt?"
Molly nodded and smiled knowing she was being silly. "Well, is all okay? Why are you here then?"
Another officer, Chris, was in an accident. I am waiting for an update.
Molly felt her face drain of colour. 'Chris', 'hurt' ..."Oh shit" she cursed. "What happened?"
"I'm not sure, I wasn't there," Hicks said smiling at his daughter a bit. "All I know is she was on her way in and well never made it."
Molly then sat remembering the fight she had with Jim, just before he left. She knew how upset he would be that his best friend was hurt. She felt bad for being so difficult with him and reached for her phone.
She typed a message: 'Jim, I am sorry. We still need to talk, but I just heard about Chris. Go see her as soon as you can. Be safe. I love you xx'
