Chapter 94

Tess and Stevie rode most of the way in silence after that. Tess had tears flowing from the utter confusion and joy and terror she was feeling.

"Stevie, I'm sorry. I never asked how things went with James. I was totally stuck in my own head. That wasn't fair of me."

"It's okay, I think you're just feeling a bit more emotional than me tonight, I don't mind letting you work through your stuff." said Stevie.

"Well, you know how things went for me, so now I'd like to hear how things went for you."

"Okay. Well, I'm glad I went. I had a very nice time. James was fun to be around. He's a serious guy, but not so much that he doesn't smile or make jokes, just serious enough to know that he takes things seriously and doesn't mess around. We talked about our families. He has three kids, Joey is his youngest, the other two are in their early twenties and seem to be doing well. His other son is out of Uni and his daughter has one year before graduation. He is originally from Melbourne and he has a brother whom he seems to get along with well. He gave up his entire life in Melbourne to go live with his youngest son after his ex wife died. He quit his fancy corporate solicitor job and started a small town law practice on his own. He bought a small farm, even though he doesn't know anything about farming so Joey could still have horses and practice for rodeo. He is a really, really good man," said Stevie, realizing she was attracted to his goodness.

"He sounds like a good bloke. How did it end? Are you going to see him again?" asked Tess.

"We walked out to the carpark together, he asked me if he could call me again, and he gave me a nice hug and a brief kiss on the lips," said Stevie.

"That sounds like a good date." Tess smiled.

"It was a good date, and I liked talking with him. It felt different than other dates I've been on. I guess he is a different guy too. I usually don't talk too much about family and stuff on dates, it's more farming, horses, rodeo stuff, but with James, it was different. I liked hearing about his family. I hope he does call me again," admitted Stevie.

"I bet he'll call you Stevie, he'd be crazy not to. You're awesome and beautiful. Congratulations on dating outside your type," said Tess.

"Well It wasn't love at first sight or anything, but I liked him. He looked good, even though he was wearing a suit at the pub," giggled Stevie.
