Street smiled at Chris. Giving her a nod meaning 'good job for not missing her in there'. Chris nodded back as they both dropped their gaze. Turning their attention back to Lilly as she spoke,

"A man was helping me find my mommy. He told me to hide." Lilly said as she looked up at Street. "I don't know where he went."

"Well," Street said, moving closer to Lilly and widening his eyes at Erika and Chris. "You did the right thing Lilly, you listened and stayed safe."

"What did the man look like?" Erika asked.

"Big, but he was nice." She answered and they all smiled at each other. Chris sat talking to her a bit more about her mom and dad as Erika and Street took down details to help look for them.

"Worst case, they can take her to the station and notify any family or children services." The EMT said as he saw Chris looking worried. "She will be okay and taken care of."

"Yeah!" Chris answered a bit jaded. Knowing that being driven to a police station and then taken by children's services was only going to scare this little girl even more right now.

"That's him!" The little girl shouted as she pointed her finger. Chris spun around to look at Lilly,

"Who? Your dad?" She began to ask, as her eyes followed Lilly's pointing finger.

"No, the man who was helping me find mommy." Lilly answered. As all of them turned around, Erika called out to the man,

"Excuse me Sir." She called jogging to him. "Can you help us a minute? We have a young child who…" Chris suddenly recognised the man. It was Jared. He was talking to Erika as he looked up to where Erika pointed Lilly was. The moment they locked eyes Chris felt her heart skip a beat.

"Jared?" She muttered standing up off the stretcher, her eyes wide trying to work out why he was here.

"Chris?" He called as he began to jog to her.

"Why are you?" Chris began, wondering what reason he could possibly have for being down here. As he reached her, he wrapped his arms around her, tightly hugging her against him as he kissed the top of her head.

"I'm sorry about breakfast." He muttered as he held her. "I kind of got caught up here." He chuckled slowly releasing her and looking into her eyes.

Chris was confused, shocked and baffled. "What? Why? I'm so lost right now," she stuttered. "Why were you down here?"

He smiled, "I wanted to get you something before I went home and a friend of mine told me about this stall here that…."

"Ok ok," Chris said holding up her hand to stop him blurting everything else. She was suddenly aware that Erika and Street were both standing there. "So, you were helping Lilly find her mom?" Chris asked as she turned back to Lilly.

"Yes, thank God you are okay." He said smiling and bending down to Lilly. "I was shopping when the shooting started." He continued as he gave Lilly's hand a squeeze. "See, Lilly, you did good. You are safe. I'm so proud of you for being so brave."

"Right." Chris swallowed and glanced at Erika who was eyeing her and grinning. "That's him?" She mouthed at Chris from behind Jared. Chris gave her a not now stare and as Jared stood up and high fived Lilly, she introduced him.

"Um, well, Sgt. Michaels this is Officer Rogers and Officer Street." She said gesturing to Street and Erika. Hoping her switch in tone would give him the hint not to talk about 'them' just yet.

As Chris glanced at Erika she mouthed facing away from Street and Jared, 'WOW He is HOT', whilst fanning her face. It made Chris frown and shoot her a death stare, telling her to stop it.

"Please, just call me Jared," he said extending his hand to Street who was a bit shell shocked, not quiet processing all that had just unfolded. As he shook his head and took in this guy standing in front of him, he almost missed the moment that Jared had extended his hand introducing himself.

"Ah, Jim, I'm Jim." Street answered a little caught off guard. Jared smiled and turned to face Erika with his hand out.

"Jared, nice to meet you," he smiled.

"Erika." She smiled back, shaking his hand, and then eyeing Chris again.

"Ah, can you um, give us a minute?" She said to Street and Erika as she stepped away tugging Jared's arm.

"So, um?" Street started as he turned to walk back to the SWAT trailer with Erika. "Chris is seeing this guy?"

"Uh not 100% sure… I mean I dunno." She answered not sure what to tell Street.

"Who even is he?" Street answered looking back over his shoulder at them. "I mean I get the feeling Chris didn't want us to meet him?"

"Yeah, maybe, I dunno." Erika answered trying to shut Street down as they reached the command trailer and helped to pack up. The last thing she wanted was to say the wrong thing and wind-up upsetting Chris. Obviously, she had not told Street much about Jared.

Chris took a few moments to talk to Jared. He took in her demeanour as she ushered him aside.

"I, um, did I say or do something wrong back there?" He asked stepping to her as he observed her agitated state. Chris sighed; she knew she was probably making him feel bad.

"No, I'm sorry I just wasn't expecting to see you here and I hadn't exactly had a chance to tell the others about…..."

"Oh, right," he nodded, "About me, I mean us." He finished, finally realising the situation.

"Yeah." Chris sighed, feeling awkward now.

"I didn't mean to upset you or embarrass you?" His tone was questioning like he was asking if she was embarrassed by him hugging her and kissing her head?

"No, Jared." Chris stepped a bit closer and reached for his hand. "I just, I mean being on the clock and all, and this situation I was caught off guard and …" He looked at their hands and smiled.

"I didn't exactly plan on seeing you here either." He laughed a bit.

"I know," she nodded as she began to smile. "I am glad you are okay."

"Can I at least hug you before you have to go back?" He asked. Chris pushed his chest slightly and grabbed him in a tight hug with a laugh.

"You know you don't have to ask. I'm sorry for being weird about it." She said as her head rested on his chest.

"No worries, I get it. I should have stopped and thought, I guess. But can I say something?"

"What?" Chris asked looking up at him.

"You look damn fine in that tac uniform!" He added with a smirk, making her laugh even louder and squeeze him tighter. "Oh, oh, okay there... jeez you are stronger than you look." He teased her. She let go of him and raised her eyebrows.

"You don't know the half of it." She teased as she nodded for him to walk back with her. "I have to go back for debrief but can we see each other again before you leave?" He squeezed her hand and pulled her back to him.

"Like I would leave without a proper goodbye." He said looking down at her. Dancing his eyes with hers.

As they stood looking at each other in that moment, Street was carrying a box back to Black betty and paused watching them. His heart sinking as he saw Chris holding Jared's hand and smiling at him. She looked happy, she deserved that. He dropped his eyes to the ground and chewed his lip.
