Chapter 127

"So Charlotte, have you thought about what you'd like to do once you finish high school in a few weeks?' asked Jodi.

"Well your gift has thrown me for a bit of a loop, but I know I want to work with horses. I've been accepted to Higgins Agricultural University and I plan to major in agricultural sciences with a concentration in Equine management. I'm really excited because they are starting a new program with a work experience option where you live and work on an actual working farm and instead of being in the classroom, you get to learn farming techniques from a professor who actually lives there and runs the farm too. It sounds perfect for me, but they said the program wouldn't be up and running until next year, so I'm trying to decide If I want to attend Higgins as a traditional student for a year, or take the year off until that program is up and running."

Jodi started laughing. "Oh Charlotte!"

"What's so funny? I thought it was a pretty good plan," said Charlotte, embarrassed.

"Oh Charlotte, it's a wonderful plan. It's just that there is someone you need to talk to. Come with me."

Jodi guided Charlotte over to the dessert table where Kate was still enjoying her sweets.

"Kate, do you remember Charlotte?"

"Of course, but I haven't seen you since you were little and I still worked on Drovers Run. Happy Birthday Charlotte, and congratulations on becoming a part owner."

"Charlotte, Kate is my best friend in the entire world," said Jodi "Kate, Charlotte has just been accepted into Higgins Aggie, and she is hoping to participate in the Higgins working farm experience."

Kate smiled. She knew where this was going. "Congratulations Charlotte. It's a top notch university."

"Charlotte, I want you to meet Dr. Katherine Manfredi, agricultural sciences professor, and the new director of the Higgins Agricultural University Working farm program. I imagine the two of you might find some things to talk about." Jodi laughed and walked away leaving her niece with her best friend.
