Back again. As usual it has been a longer wait than intended – but you've got a new chapter, so that's something. In between now and the last chapter, I have started work on chapter 11, been on holidays, gotten ceramic braces (will need them for two – three years) and just this morning, I was diagnosed with Whooping Cough and just before finishing this paragraph, I was called up by the CDC asking me when I started to feel sick and all the places and people I have been in contact with over the past week (if you haven't had it yet – get the vaccine before you do, Whooping Cough is bloody awful to have).

So all in all I've been quite busy since my last update.

As usual, I'll quickly thank my reviewers. I cannot understate how much I appreciate every single review I get, I always love hearing what people thought of my story.

FullMetalPon-3 – I'm glad you liked Matthew's part, he might be quiet most of the time, but he also knows how to tell a bit of a fib when needed. I also like that you enjoyed Arthur sticking up for Alfred. The two may provoke and annoy each other most of the time, but they still care about one another and it means a lot to Arthur to see Alfred overcome fears and struggles – it's one of the main reasons he insisted that Alfred come in the first place.

VivaDradnire – 3

Land of Insanity – I'm glad that you liked how I did Alfred's scene. Initially I found it a little difficult to realistically balance Alfred's reaction. I didn't want him give a ridiculous, over the top reaction as that wouldn't seem sincere, but I also needed to convey that Alfred uncomfortable while still being in character. Thanks for the feedback.

Unseated4TH – Thanks, one of the difficult parts of writing a crossover is repeating scenes that come from the book. I'm not a fan of doing mass 'copy pastes', so when writing canonically important scenes, I always try to find ways to change the scene as much as possible while still including the main plot points. For example I chose to do the first DADA lesson with Moody through the perspective of Francis because through showing it through the lens of the sixth year students, it was much easier to avoid a copy pasted scene that would be easy to fall into had I done it from one of the fourth years perspectives. Another example of this was in the Sorting scene. Instead of copy pasting the entire song, I only copied the first line and used it as a means to have Arthur day dream until it was almost his turn to be called. Also instead of showing the 'Malfoy the Ferret' scene, I chose not to show it, rather just have Alfred use it a way to have a go at Malfoy. Again my reason for this was to avoid copy paste (through not rewriting the scene) as well as changing up an existing scene (the ferret incident was never mentioned in the cannon first COMC class as (I don't think) it had happened yet).

River1225 – Glad to see you liked the bet. As these guys are the personifications of their own countries, I'm sure $350 isn't very much. I'm thinking that having a bit of a bet is something they do occasionally.

Narmiaisinmycloset – Alfred should be proud of himself

Guardian Iggy – I'm glad to see another new reviewer who likes my story. Seems you are a movie fan. My story takes inspiration from both the movies and books. For example, like the movies, I probably won't include much of the S.P.E.W subplot, however like the books, I have included the Blast Ended Skrewts. As for getting certain canonical things right and not stuffing things up, I use the Harry Potter Wikia website. It lets me add detail that I otherwise wouldn't have known. For example in this chapter I looked at prior Hogwarts headmasters on Harry Potter Wikia and chose one of the 16th century headmasters. He's only mentioned once as one of the portraits in Dumbledore's office, but I find choosing someone from Harry Potter canon adds more to the story than making up someone.

Thank you again to everyone who reviewed. Now without any further delays, let's get into the story.

Great Hall

6th September 8:30pm

Arthur's POV

It was just on half past eight that the evening when Arthur excused himself from the Slytherin table. Standing, he made eye contact with Kiku, whom Arthur knew would prefer to accompany himself rather than spending time with the Slytherins. However upon accepting that he would not be accompanying Arthur, Kiku had made plans involving the library, which he had assured Arthur was the better of the two options he had left.

Leaving the Great Hall, Arthur turned left where he found Matthew waiting. The two headed up the staircase.

"I just spoke with Alfred and Francis," Matthew said when there was no longer anyone else nearby. "They're still annoyed they're not coming."

"It can't be helped," Arthur gave the same explanation he had already given Kiku. "It's already enough with just the two of us privately meeting Dumbledore – the five of us meeting him would draw too much attention."

Unable to argue the point, Matthew fell silent as he let Arthur lead the way up staircases and through corridors on their way to the headmaster's office. He was just about to ask where exactly it was when Arthur stopped short in front of an old statue of a gargoyle

"I think this is it," Arthur said. "This is where the Headmaster's office was located last time I was here."

Stepping forward, Arthur cleared his throat and spoke clearly;

"1, 2, 3, 4."

"That was the password?" Matthew asked dubiously as the gargoyle shifted to reveal a hidden spiral staircase.

"I guess the idea is that it's so simple, no one would think Albus Dumbledore of all people would use it."

Arthur took the lead, walking up the narrow windy staircase until they reached a solid wooden door. Arthur knocked, paused briefly, and entered.

"Good evening," greeted Dumbledore as the pair entered a large circular office. Arthur quickly took in the décor. While he was usually proud of himself for having a pretty decent knowledge of magic and wizarding artefacts, he had to admit, there were many objects in Dumbledore's office that he was not at all familiar with. It was an impressive collection.

However, Arthur did recognise some of the portraits of previous headmasters and mistresses. He nodded a greeting to Fytherley Undercliffe, who had raised his cane in acknowledgement of his nation.

"It is nice to finally greet you openly." Dumbledore said as the two nations finally approached. He moved to shake Arthur's hand. "How are you Arthur?"

"I am fine. Thank you again Albus, for allowing my colleagues and I to attend your school this year."

Dumbledore waved his hand in dismissal. "You have not been the only person to have noticed the signs that this time of peace may be nearing its end," Dumbledore indicated to Matthew. "As I said to Matthew when he arrived, I was only too happy to make the arrangements for you nations to stay." Dumbledore moved to back to his desk and took his seat. Staring at Arthur from over the top of his half moon spectacles he added; "It seems as though we once again are working towards a common goal."

Arthur nodded, taking the visitor's seat next to Matthew. "Well, with any luck, the enemy won't be ready to move until Harry is a little older and better able to defend himself."

"And if it turns out that the enemy isn't ready to move until a few years from now?"

"When Arthur approached us with this mission, he told us it would take only a year," Matthew spoke up. "But I think I speak for all of us – including my brother – when I say we're prepared to stay longer if required. We all understand how important this matter is."

Arthur gave Matthew a warm smile while Dumbledore looked thoughtful. "I suspect you'll make the necessary arrangements with your respective Ministries of Magic should that eventuate. Speaking of which," Dumbledore redirected his attention back to Arthur. "I spoke with Cornelius Fudge the other day."

Arthur's smile froze. "Oh."

"The minister seemed entirely unaware of your presence here at the school. In fact he seems to think that your current absence has something to do with Fiji."

Arthur muttered something under his breath, digging his nails into his armrest.

"Now, I made no attempt to correct his assumption as you have your own reasons for keeping your true location from him. However I would like you to keep in mind that he will be present at the school this year during some of the Triwizard events. I understand that he can be a stubborn man sometimes – especially when confronted with information he is unwilling to deal with – however it may be wise to alert him of the fact that you are not actually holidaying abroad before he spots you here."

"I told that wanker I was going to come here!" Arthur snapped. "Once again the man is cherry picking what he wants to believe," he took a breath to calm himself. "At least now that we're here he can't stop us from coming. But I'm not looking forward to hearing his whinging when the idiot does find out."

"So," began Matthew, as though trying to draw the conversation away from the Minister of Magic. "The overall plan, regardless of how long we're here is to make connections with Harry Potter, and other than that fly under the radar."

Dumbledore observed Matthew for a few moments, his hand resting on his mouth. "I'm actually glad you have brought that up. In little under a week, you have undoubtedly succeeded in your first objective. I am also aware that you have all done well at playing your respective roles authentically, and I believe that just about everyone has believed those roles. However, Hogwarts prides itself on hiring some of the best and brightest the UK has to offer, and as such some members of my staff have already approached me asking difficult questions regarding the transfer students and apprentice teacher."

Arthur and Matthew exchanged concerned looks.

"You didn't tell them what we are, did you?" Matthew questioned.

"When I learned about the secret of personified nations, I gave Arthur my word that none would come to learn of your existence through me. I pride myself on being a man of my word and regardless of how much time has passed, that will not change."

Matthew visibly relaxed.

"I am afraid however," Dumbledore continued. "That in this particular situation, things may not be so straight forward. I maintain that no one will learn that you are technically non-human from me, however professors Snape, McGonagall, and Moody have as good as guessed that you are not the transfer students you claim to be, and they are seeking answers."

"Damn it," said Arthur, allowing himself to slough forward and rest his head in his hands.

He had known that going completely undetected for an entire school year was going to be difficult – it was partially why he had been so strict with the others in the first place – but to go less than a week before people had come to suspect something about them was in all honesty, somewhat embarrassing, especially as he suspected that he himself was partially responsible.

Though, he reasoned, it's not entirely surprising. What, with Alfred's potion accident on the first day – and the fact that only yesterday all he, Kiku, and Alfred (along with Harry) had successfully thrown off the Imperious Curse. This was something he couldn't blame the others for as he had allowed himself to be caught up in another dumb bet. The situation only became worse when he discovered that Francis had also thrown off the curse during the sixth year's class. Arthur strongly suspected that the fact all four transfer students had successfully thrown off a curse that many talented adults struggled against had tipped Moody off.

Arthur looked back at Dumbledore. "So what do you suggest?"

"Minerva and Severus care greatly for the students, and Alastor's distrust of those holding back truths is almost legendary. They will not take kindly to strangers posing as students without at least understanding why you are doing so."

"Albus, we can't –"

"I'm not suggesting that you tell them the entire truth. I understand that it is imperative that your kind remains largely unknown – however, I also believe that in order for you to remain at this school, you must give them a partial explanation."

Arthur and Matthew exchanged looks.

"We've come this far – it wouldn't feel right going home now," Matthew said.

Arthur nodded his agreement.

"I thought you might say that," Dumbledore looked at his pocket watch. "Now, I am aware I may be rushing this a little, but I have scheduled a meeting with Minerva, Severus, and Alastor regarding this very topic in fifteen minutes. If you were to leave now, they would be entirely unaware of your visit. However, I believe this is a matter that must be dealt with swiftly, before mistrust derails your relationships. So if you would follow my advice, I would recommend that you speak with them here tonight."

Arthur again glanced at Matthew.

"I didn't think he meant now," said Matthew, who despite what he had said only moments earlier now looked distinctly uncomfortable.

"Dumbledore's right though," Arthur argued. "Our job here's going to be near impossible if McGonagall, Snape and Moody are all against us."

Matthew sighed. "I still think Alfred and the others should be here for this," he mumbled.

"Meeting again later with all five of us present would be too risky. If we get seen meeting with Dumbledore and the professors like that and everyone'll start talking."

"Fine," Matthew reluctantly agreed. He looked between Dumbledore and Arthur. "What should we tell them?"

Ten minutes later, a short rap came from the office door.

"Enter," said Dumbledore.

The door began opening and Arthur felt a flutter of apprehension in his stomach. As the apprentice teacher, Matthew's presence could be easily explained away. His presence however…

Severus Snape entered the room, stopping short at the sight of the two nations. A smirk crossed his face. "I see you took my advice, Headmaster. I can gather the others if you wish."

"Thank you Severus, but on this occasion you are too quick to judge. If you would wait for a few minutes for Minerva and Alastor to arrive, Arthur and Matthew here will give you the answers you seek."

Severus gave the pair another look, now appearing more intrigued before bypassing the seat Dumbledore offered, instead choosing to stand by the nearest bookcase.

They waited in silence for a few more minutes before a distant clunking was heard, followed by rapping at the door.

McGonagall entered the office, closely followed by Moody.

McGonagall gave the nations a hard look, and Arthur felt Matthew shrink beside him as her lips narrowed.

For someone who wants to be given more attention, he really can't deal with negative attention well, Arthur observed.

Moody meanwhile approached Dumbledore's desk, staring at Arthur and Matthew, a look of curiosity in his natural eye.

"So Dumbledore, you've finally caught the fakes that infiltrated the school."

"I can assure you Alastor, Arthur and Matthew are here out of their own free will. Furthermore, they and the other students hardly 'infiltrated' Hogwarts. They asked to attend the school this year and I agreed to have them." Dumbledore paused briefly and Arthur noted the looks of surprise that passed the teachers' faces.

"Now, it would seem that due to a lack of communication we are all on different pages," Dumbledore continued. "Let's see if a meeting with those of us present can't remedy this."

Moody responded to this by moving to sit on the edge of Dumbledore's desk, facing the pair. "So then, why don't we start with the two you telling us who you are and why you are actually here?"

"You are the one calling my friends and I fakes. As the accuser you should go first," Arthur opposed.

"Oh, that's not the way things work here, sonny."

"Alastor – that's enough," reprimanded McGonagall from the seat she had taken. "Their presence here tonight clearly demonstrates that they have not been honest this week, however Albus agreed to let them stay and that is grounds enough to give them some amount of trust."

Arthur breathed a small sigh of relief. Maybe this won't be too difficult after all.

"However," McGonagall continued. "I would be much more comfortable knowing who is in my class. We will explain to you why we believe you are not exactly who you say. However, unless you tell us why you are actually here, I am afraid you will no longer be welcome in my class."

"On this matter, I agree with Professor McGonagall. I will not have strangers with unknown intentions attending my lessons and using my supplies."

Arthur side glanced Matthew, who nodded his head.

"Fine," Arthur said shortly. "For what reasons do you suspect us?"

"I already felt something was different on the first day during William's lesson. However, after I met with you and your brother today," McGonagall paused before addressing the Canadian. "You all claim to have attended Illvamory. Is that correct?"

"Yes," he confirmed.

"This afternoon Jones claimed to have not seen a ghost for years in the lead up to his arrival this week."

Arthur groaned, already knowing the conclusion McGonagall had made. Matthew did too, judging by the look of realisation quickly replaced with guilt that crossed his face.

"As any student who has actually attended Ilvamory would tell you, the school has no shortage of ghosts. This leads me to question whether or not any of you actually attended the school, as I fail to see why the others would cover for you brothers."

"Ok," admitted Arthur. "You are right in that assumption, but –"

"Regardless of where you went to school, it still does not explain Jones' case on Monday," interrupted Snape. The potions master then quickly explained the accident from their first class. "I thought little more of it until that evening when I overheard Madam Pomfrey mention that she had yet to have any students visit the Hospital Wing and I immediately knew that Jones had not been. As such I was surprised when later that evening Jones turned up for his detention without a mark.

I am familiar with the mistake he made, as well as what the faulty potion will do should skin contact be made. Even with a trip to the Hospital Wing, it should have taken a week to fully heal with what Madam Pomfrey stocks in her medical supplies. So when I saw Jones without a mark and without having visited Madam Pomphrey, I knew something wasn't right."

Arthur sighed. This was the one thing he was sure would come up – in fact he had spent the last few days formulating a decent explanation for the incident should the need for it arise.

At least it shows that Snape is a capable teacher.

"That's because before we arrived we were all provided with a small supply of Iæknir to be used in case of emergency. Alfred's carelessness on Monday lead to him stupidly expiring his supply before the second lesson had even started."

"The use of Iæknir would explain Jones' miraculous recovery," confirmed Snape suspiciously. "However it is also notoriously expensive, which only leads me to question how and why you came into the possession of a substance so rare that even our own healer doesn't stock?"

"Ahm – " Arthur began.

"Furthermore," Snape continued without pause. "Why is it that in this meeting, Kirkland, a student has done almost all of the talking while Professor Williams has remained so quiet?"

Crap, thought Arthur, cursing himself for subconsciously falling back into his World Meeting mentality, where Canada rarely spoke up.

"Because," Matthew took over, as though speaking up now would undo the damage already done.

"It's because none of the transfer students are actually teenagers," stated Moody.

There was a long pause as all eyes moved from Moody to Arthur and Matthew.

"What do you mean 'not act–"

"How long have you know?" Arthur spoke over Snape.

Snape stopped speaking, looking shocked that the accusation had been so quickly confirmed.

"From the beginning – as soon as I lay eye on you all at the feast," Moody pointed to his magical eye.

Arthur frowned. So Moody's discovery had nothing to do with a stuff-up on our end. I didn't think his eye would be so problematic… though at least his discovery had nothing to do with the Imperius incident.

"Not teenagers?!" McGonagall questioned looking at Arthur and Matthew in shock. "Dumbledore, you are aware of this? You're allowing adults to stay in our student's dormitories?!"

"I am aware Minerva," Dumbledore responded calmly. "Mr. Kirkland, it seems as though the time to disclose your usual appearance and for the pair of you to share your story has arrived."

The two nations nodded and Arthur removed his Seidr gem from around his neck.

At least I happen to be wearing loose clothing, he thought as he handed the gem to Matthew. The moment his skin broke contact with the gem, he could feel the familiar stretching sensation. A moment later he looked back to Matthew, finding that he was now almost eye-level with the younger nation again.

"That's your true appearance?" questioned Snape, looking stunned. He looked at Moody, who confirmed with a nod. "You don't look much older than a teenager."

"It's because I'm not. I'm 23," Arthur responded with the age he gave all humans.

"None of us are all that old," Matthew continued as though to quell any worries the professors had about the age gap in the dormitories.

"We're actually all still in our twenties," added Arthur, then looking at Moody he added. "Well, with the exception of Alfred and Matthew, the twins actually are still in their teens."

McGonagall gave Matthew a reproachful look. "So even you have lied about your age? I hope you realise that twenty is the minimum age to work at Hogwarts."

"I'll be twenty soon enough," Matthew said, though struggled to maintain eye contact with McGonagall's stern face.

"Dumbledore, I hope there is a good explanation for this," Moody demanded.

"There is. However as it was here who instigated this whole affair, I think it is best that you hear the story from him."

"Thank you professor," Arthur used the professional title. "And thank you for sharing the events that tipped you all off," he addressed the teachers. "As agreed, Matthew and I will now tell you who we are and why we are here. However, I must impress on you that what we are about to share is top secret and must not leave this office."

The professors nodded, expressions ranging from interested to skeptical.

"Go on then."

Arthur paused. It's a pretty solid story, but God – I hope they buy it…

"I work with the British Ministry for Magic in the WI department."

Snape scoffed. "You really expect us to believe you're with Wizard Intelligence?"

"I have been acquainted with Mr. Kirkand for some time now and I can confirm that he does indeed work with Intelligence." Dumbledore supported.

Arthur smiled, his mind briefly flashing back to their first meeting well over fifty years ago when this had more of less been the case. Though instead of WI, it had in fact been the MI5 division that he had been working with at that time.

"Since when does the Ministry of Magic hire people who are basically kids to work in the WI department?" Snape asked suspiciously.

"We were specifically chosen for various reasons when we were children," Arthur answered quickly, a little annoyed that the question had been directed at Dumbledore. "I guess you could say we showed talent in certain areas that interested the department. We were each contacted and offered placement in an advanced curriculum, which along with a number of other perks made for an offer that was too good to pass. It's the reason Alfred and Matthew never attended Illvamory – they were training with MACUSA from an early age."

"So you trained with your respective Ministries of Magic?" confirmed McGonagall. "That only raises the question of how you all know each other and why you have been placed here."

"To answer your first question, we completed some of our training together and have cooperated on different international assignments before this one," explained Arthur, quietly noting the truth in this particular answer. "Regarding your second question, Matthew and I need each of you to keep in mind that there are some aspects of this story that are confidential, however the core of it is that we believe that Voldemort is trying to return."

Ignoring the instant reaction from the professors, Arthur continued. Over the following minutes he gave an abridged version of how he had come to this conclusion as well as how it connected to the need for transfer students at Hogwarts.

This was followed by a long pause as the teachers took in the information. Arthur tried not to look nervous, hoping they would believe the story.

"I can sense that there are some details that you have omitted," Snape said. "However you did admit that some aspects of your story are confidential. Crucially I can tell that you have been honest both in your belief that Voldemort is gaining strength as well as your objective of protecting Potter." The potions master hesitated for a moment before adding; "Do not fail in this."

Arthur's expression lightened, contrasting Snape's darker tone. "So you'll let us remain in your class?"

"As long as Jones doesn't continue to be a buffoon."

McGonagall too voiced her opinion. "If Albus has approved you, and you have passed Snape's Legamency, I too will allow you in my class. Williams, it seems that your ambition to be a teacher is also a farce. However your lack of confidence to contribute in tonight's meeting has told me that there are things I still may be able to teach you."

"Thank you," said Matthew.

"I suppose I'll let you back in my class too, seeing as we're all on the same side," began Moody somewhat menacingly. "But if I find you've lied again, being kicked out of class will be the least of your w –"

"Thank you Alastor," interrupted Dumbledore.

"I should add though," continued Moody albeit a little more calmly. "If you're pretending to be 'normal' students, you shouldn't have all succeeded in throwing off the Imperious Curse."

Arthur cursed himself.

Having finally reached an understanding with McGonagall, Snape, and Moody, Dumbledore called the meeting to an end and Arthur and Matthew quickly left the office.

Things did not go as planned this evening. Thought Arthur as the two waited for a moving staircase to connect back to the top. Still, it seems like the situation has been salvaged.

It was now important to tell the others what had happened. Matthew was right though – the others would not be impressed that such an important meeting had occurred without them.

Oh well, he thought as he bid Matthew goodbye and entered the Slytherin common room. If the worst consequence of the night is a couple of temporarily grumpy nations, that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Alastor Moody bid Minerva McGonagall goodnight as she disappeared into her office, and quickened his pace, not stopping until he had reached his own quarters.

So, the transfer students are with WI?

He ran a hand through his grey hair. He had known they were hiding something from the very beginning, but having it had their identities and reasons for being at Hogwarts this year was disturbing.

He sat, sipping a hot cup of peppermint tea (a midnight treat) and considered his options.

It took a while, but finally he knew what he needed to do. Moody stood. Quickly moving to the table, he traded the now cold tea for his bag, ensuring his ever-present potion was in place, and swung his cloak over his head before leaving the room.

The school was empty, which was to be expected at this time of night. Moody knew that as a teacher, no one would question him for being out in the early hours. Regardless of this, Moody quickened his pace, only stopping when he came to a certain hidden door.

Activating it, Moody hurried inside and followed the steep tunnel downwards. Moody kept his hand on the wall, waiting for the outshoot of stone that would tell him he had left the Hogwarts grounds.

There it was.

Moody stepped forward, turning. The steep, dry tunnel disappeared with a 'crack', to be replaced with torrents of almost horizontal rain. Quickly pulling out his wand, Moody preformed a charm to protect himself from the worst of the elements. The charm did not block out the humidity though, and Moody could tell that the storm had probably been building for hours.

Moody looked around and spotted his destination, an old manor, occasionally illuminated by bolts of lightning. He took a step forward, only to trip on the wet grass. Looking down, Moody quickly spotted the cause. Cursing his negligence slightly, he bent down and bagged his additional items and continued on in the direction of the manor.

He quickened his pace, now enjoying his limp-free strides, while re-casting the umbrella charm and shaking the excess rain water out of his sandy blonde hair.

A few minutes later he reached the house. He knocked once to announce his arrival before stepping in, ignoring the worm at the entrance who did little more than confirm that he was in the right place. He walked up the stairs and into the room where he finally spotted the one he wanted to meet.

"My Lord," said Barty Crouch Jr. "There's been a development."

Well damn, looks like the consequences of the evening might be worse than Arthur guessed.

As for the word 'Iæknir', it is the old Norse word for heal - yeah, a bit of a lazy name choice as the substances name literally translates to 'heal', but I liked the look of the word - specifically the 'æ' letter.

Hope you all enjoyed chapter ten . I'm glad I wrote and edited the majority of this already – my author's notes are always the last thing I write, just before posting. Thankfully the rest of the chapter was written before I got this cough – you should seriously get the vaccine if you haven't already, with the exception of the fever, I have ticked off all the symptoms of the Whooping Cough (so wasn't too surprised when the doctor told me I had it) and it's on a totally different level to any cough or cold I've ever had. Hopefully I'll get rid of it soon. In the meantime though, I've been told I can't go to work for the next 5 days, so I guess the bonus is that I can continue working on the so far unnamed chapter 11.

Next Time:

Time passes as the transfer students settle in. Astronomy class reveals some startling information for both sides while Arthur and Kiku get to know their fellow Slytherins a little better on their first visit to Hogsmead.
