After that TLI announcement things had moved fast. Street had barely had time to wrap his head around the fact that he had won over Chris. Let alone the fact that she had finally admitted that there was actually and truly a possibility of a 'them.'
They had continued to talk about the situation, spend time together and share a few small moments before he left, but Chris always held her ground. No more real couple stuff. Nothing more like that until they worked out how to deal with these SWAT rules that were in play.
And soon he found himself on the other side of the Atlantic. Half a world away from her. They had called and texted as much as they could. And every time they spoke, he knew Chris was looking for a way to make them work. She had said multiple times she could go do anything else. She was highly qualified and trained but he refused. Chris had worked too hard for her spot on SWAT. He couldn't and wouldn't ask her to give that up for him. And if he had understood everything Luca had told him about the TLI's, as well as what Hicks had added to that, he actually had some promising chances of being offered a good transfer assignment.
The time in Germany flew by, Luca stayed an extra few days, to tie up some loose ends. But Street couldn't wait to get home. Before he knew it, he was back on the ground in LA, walking out of the airport to see a smiling Chris. She wrapped her arms around him tightly. Showing him how much she had missed him. Gently kissing his cheek before he did the same back. As she drove him back to Luca's she told him, that these 3 months apart had made her realise something. She needed him, not the rest of the 20 David team. It was her admitting that she thought he was more important than 20 David, and SWAT for that matter.
"I can do anything," she smiled at him as he held her hand across the console. "I could explore the K-9 Liaison avenue, or more of the leadership stuff that Lynch has been helping with." Street chuckled.
"Okay slow down, we talked about this." He said lifting her hand and squeezing it. "I will not ask you to leave SWAT for me." He added glancing at her.
"Street," she said with a serious tone. "I had been so scared of change that, well, I was closing all those possibilities down before I even took a second to see what they offered." It made him so happy inside. That finally Chris had realised and really felt the stuff he had too. That she now, could finally see there were ways, if they both wanted this enough.
The next morning before shift, Street found a letter from the department in his inbox. Some new Sergeant for a specialized new taskforce had offered him a meeting. A job interview.
Street was shocked. He had hoped this would open up other pathways, but he hadn't expected it this soon. Still, he was curious what it was and if it could work. As he read the email again, he decided not to tell Chris about it straight away. Not until he knew what it was and if it would even work. Plus, he wanted it to be a surprise. He smiled thinking about the moment when he could finally tell her, there were no more obstacles between them.
So now two weeks later as he sat in a non-descript office, still with the new furniture smell waiting for the man who had asked to meet with him, he nervously tapped is knee up and down. He had been waiting around 15 minutes for this elusive Sergeant, when he stood up to get a drink of water from the water fountain. As he took a few steps, the door opened and a little girl flew into the room,
"Jared?" but when she saw Street standing there she frowned. "You're not Jared." She said confused, and that was quickly followed by a very familiar voice calling out,
"Dani, you can't just..."
It took him a second or so to register what was going on. "No, I am um…." He began, and before he could form his words Molly appeared in the doorway.
"Jim? What are you doing here?" He could clearly hear the surprise in her voice. "Aunt Molly, where's Jared?" The little girl tugged her hand and Molly hoisted her up to her hip.
"I don't know sweety, but I am sure we'll find him outside as soon as his meeting is finished." She turned back to Jim, once more waiting for an answer.
But his answer, suddenly wedged hard in his throat again, when the door opened, and another unexpected face appeared.
"Jared!" The little girl shouted reaching out her arms for him.
"Oh, hey there pumpkin. Did you have fun with Molly so far?" That was when he looked up to see the immense confusion on Streets face as he looked from him to Danielle and back to Molly.
After a short pause, Jared spoke as he stepped closer to Street, "I am so sorry I am running late." He looked back at Molly and Danielle. "Can you keep her for maybe 30 to 40 minutes more? Well, that's if Officer Street here still wants to take this meeting?" He looked questioningly back at Street, who was a little unsure about all of this, but he nodded anyway. Molly looked just as confused as he felt, but she gave Jared a nod too and then left quickly with Danielle.
"Officer Street." Jared smiled stepping to him and holding out his hand. "I know this is unexpected, but I am glad you came." Street swallowed a nervous lump and forced a smile.
"Yeah, unexpected alright." Street muttered nervously. "You," he said slowly pointing at him, "are who I?..."
That was when Jared realised, he was still piecing all of this together.
"Sgt. Jared Michaels, LAPD Delta Taskforce." He pointed at his badge realising in that moment too that Street had not realised he was the Sgt. Michaels that had sent him that letter and asked him to attend this interview.
"Right, of course." Street cleared his throat and nodded respectfully. Not sure what to say. His head was spinning. 'What the hell? What did this mean? Since when was Jared LAPD? Why was Molly here? Was that the child Chris had told him about? Did that mean Jared was with Caitlin now? Should I even be here?' Street wondered as his thoughts swirled like a merry go round.
