As Street glanced off into the distance, still confused and lost as to what the hell was unfolding here, Jared nodded and smiled a small smile. He offered Street a chair at the table.

"I see that this is a bit of a shock, and I get that you hadn't pieced those pieces together, right?"

"Um, yeah," Street said nervously, feeling slightly embarrassed as he took a seat. "Guess I was more focused on the opportunity than the name on the letter."

Jared nodded, clearly thinking. "So, Chris didn't see the letter or…?" He asked knowing that she would have noticed the name.

"No, uh, no she hasn't." Street answered not sure how much he should be saying, and a little surprised that Jared mentioned Chris. Jared meanwhile, wondered what that meant. Were her and Street still not really speaking? Or what had happened between them?

"Look, if this," he moved to the table and nodded to the envelope with Street's name, and the Delta Taskforce badge on it. "If this is going to work, I think we should clear the air about the past first." Jared sat down and looked to Street, who slowly nodded.

"Okay well, I am guessing you are wondering what I am doing here. So, I'll explain." Jared stood back up and wandered to the window, sliding his hands in his pockets. "I transferred here only a week or so ago officially. After Chris and I went separate ways," he paused and turned around to look at Street. "I dunno how much she told you, so stop me if I'm boring you," he continued. "I took some time to work myself out. Slowly I reconnected with Caitlin." Jared wandered closer and leant on the table facing Street. "She and I are together now, and that is why I am here. This opportunity was advertised and well…" he trailed off watching Street just nod, still looking a bit shell shocked. "I took the chance we never really had all those years ago." He paused and watched as Street was clearly processing all that information.

"I guess Chris doesn't know any of that?" Street began motioning in the air.

"No, we haven't spoken since that night." He confirmed. "But how is she?" He asked, breaking Street out of his blur. "I guess I didn't keep my promise to stay in touch…."

"Um, she's good." He managed, really struggling with what Chris would want Jared to know. Jared smiled slightly and adjusted his stance to be more relaxed.

"Have you two, ah, figured things out?" Street saw the knowing look on his face.

"I um, only just got back from the TLI's in Germany, so we haven't spent much time….."

"Street, can I be frank?" He interrupted.

"Yes Sir?" He answered fidgeting.

"Please, just Jared whilst we discuss this stuff." He smiled kindly, "I'm trying to clear the air and make this as straight forward as I can. Just man to man here, I know you and Chris have feelings for each other, and I would just be really happy to hear she has worked that all out and is happy now, with you. This doesn't have to be weird and awkward. And…." He nodded again to the envelope. "This opportunity you have earnt could remove the obstacle of being on the same team while advancing your career." Street's eyes were wide and darted from Jared to the envelope and back.

Street didn't want any more discussion about he and Chris, especially when he knew this could send Chris reeling and he was not sure what the hell he should be saying. "Okay, so can we switch back to this opportunity?" He asked. Jared nodded, standing up off the table and returning to his seat, opening a few files.

"When I landed this assignment, I was given the choice to hand pick my team. So, I started asking for the best from all departments. Your Commander Hicks sent me your files. Impressive." He nodded raising his eyebrows. "You have the qualifications, leadership potential and skills that I want on my team."

Street swallowed; he could hear his heartbeat echoing in his ears. This was exactly the opportunity he wanted but was this all how it was meant to be.

"I don't expect you to give me an answer right now. Just promise me you will consider it all,"

"Yes, of course Sir." Street answered.

"Oh, and make sure you have spoken with her about it all." He smiled softly. "She needs to be okay with this, if you two are…"

Street chewed his lip nodding. "I'll think about it and let you know." He nodded, and with that they went on to dive into the details of the taskforce and what this role meant.
