Driving back across town afterwards he was still in shock. The opportunity Jared had offered was to be his 2nd in command of a new taskforce. This was a once in a career type of opportunity and he knew that he would be stupid to turn it down, but the circumstances…. Well, they just were so far beyond anything he had expected he was still a mess.

He had a couple of days to think it over and there really was only one person he wanted to talk this through with. Chris. He weaved in and out of traffic trying to figure out how to explain this offer to her, but he couldn't come to a conclusion. So just minutes later, knocking on her door he was incredibly nervous.

Chris smiled as she looked through the peep hole, quickly pulling the door open at the sight of him. She had spent the day in court wrapping up a case, while the team had a day off. When his arms wrapped around her in a hug, she felt him burrow his face into her neck making her pull back and look at him worriedly.

"What's wrong?" She asked scanning his face.

"Nothing," he shook his head and reached for her again.

"Really? Because.." She chuckled and lifted her shoulder in delight as his breath tingled the skin on her neck.

"I, ah, I don't know. Can we um, talk?" Chris could clearly hear the insecurity in his voice, so she pulled him inside and guided him to the sofa. Street swallowed hard and looked her dead in the eyes. "So, I um, I had something I wanted to surprise you with and now…"

"Street?" She furrowed her brows and let out slowly. "What's happened?"

"I had a meeting at South Division today." He answered.

"Oh, about what?" She asked surprised, her eyes wide.

"Have you, ah, heard about the new specialized Delta Taskforce they want to set up there?"

"Yeah," she nodded. "Everyone has heard about it, and the guys have been joking how perfect for you it would be!" Chris laughed, before the fact that he wasn't laughing made her turn more serious. "Hang on, they want you?"

Street just looked at her, trying to think what to say. "Why don't you seem all that excited?" She furrowed her brows at him. He reached out slowly for her hand, entangling their fingers.

"I am. I am. Well, I am actually honoured, …. but I, um, I think me taking this position would be just awkward, weird, uncomfortable or all of the above."

Chris shook her head laughing, "What? What do you mean? You do know those words all mean basically the same thing. What's the issue? Why are we not celebrating?" She leant over and grabbed his face with both hands leaning closer. Knowing that if he got an amazing offer, there were no more obstacles in their way.

"My new boss, that I would be 2nd in command under?" He began. Chris just looked at him confused, still holding his face like she was ready to kiss him.

"It's Jared." He exhaled and watched her with a slight grimace and frown.

His words froze her, as she stared back into his eyes. It felt like someone had tipped an ice bucket on her head. The shock washing over her as the words, "It's Jared." sunk in. Her thoughts had gone fuzzy, her mind raced, and she couldn't form a coherent group of words. Her eyes danced with Streets for a while before she dropped her hands and sat back. This was not the plan, not part of the deal she had made in her head that they would be able to move forward if he found a new position.

"What?" Finally came out of her mouth as she dropped her eyes. "How? I mean he is in Las Vegas?" She said looking back up. "And …"

Street shook his head. "Not anymore, and there's, well there's more."

"More?" She widened her eyes and stared at him. "Like what?" Her mind was a mess, and she was struggling to make sense of what Street was saying.

"You mean you talked about…." she paused and reconsidered her words. "You talked about all that, about us?" She asked with disbelief in her voice.

Street held up his hands. "Hey, trust me I was insanely uncomfortable, and I am so confused right now too, but yes, Jared wanted to 'clear the air'." He held up his fingers. "and believe me, I barely said two words, not sure what he knew and…"

"Does he know about us? And why you want to shift?" She asked holding her breath.

"Yeah, I think he figured that much …. I didn't tell him we were well anything, cause we kind of… aren't officially….but he alluded to it." He confessed. Chris frowned and chewed her lip.

"Wow," she mumbled.

"I um, I saw Molly too." He watched her. She blinked confused. "Molly? Why would she be at South Division?"

"She um, was minding Danielle." Street said carefully watching the moment the meaning of those words hit her. Chris sat silent, her eyes moving about as she processed that.

"So…. Caitlin was there too?" She scrunched her eyes trying to make sense of the scene Street was describing.
"Nope just Molly, Jared and Danielle. But Jared told me he was seeing Caitlin now." Street said softly. Chris sat up and looked at him.
He wasn't too sure what he should say right now. But Chris slowly broke into a soft smile and nodded.

"Good for him. Glad he is happy." Street look back confused; he hadn't been expecting that reaction. He took a second to sort his thoughts and form his next sentence in his head.

"So, this, me taking this job..."
"Street," she cut him off, "Would you be hesitating if it were anyone else offering?" Her eyes fixed him and all he could do is simply shake his head.

"Then you need to call him back and accept his offer."

"But are you okay with this? I mean it's Jared?" He asked again softly holding her hand.

"Hey, Jared is," she looked from their hands back to him. "That's the past. He moved on and so did I." She smiled at him with a knowing smile. Making him smile too.

"If this is too weird, I will say no and wait for something else, I..." Chris leant forward and placed her hand on his knee, stopping him.

"No," she shook her head, "Street, you earnt this! And being 2nd in command of a taskforce is huge!" Her eyes searched him. "You are not going to get another offer this amazing anytime soon."

"But Chris..." He sighed, picking up her hand in his. "You are more important to me than a job. I don't want it if I can't come home to you. Start a life with you."

She exhaled and smiled, her emotions taking over in that moment. She leant forward on the sofa, kissing him hard. "Jim, I love you." She mumbled, as she pulled back. Making him grab her and kiss her again.

"I love you too." He exhaled breathless. Looking at her with intense passion as she smiled widely.

"Okay," She chuckled holding up her hands. "We need to tone it down." She shuffled back, putting distance between them. "You're still officially 26 David remember and..."

"The rules." He groaned playfully making her thump him and laugh.
