Chapter 163

"So I reckon we only have about an hour of daylight left. What do you say we stop here and make camp. This is as good a place as any," recommended Jodi.

"Sounds good to me. I'd be happy to work on building a campfire for us. I even brought these for dessert!" Charlotte said as she pulled out a bag of marshmallows and displayed it to the group.

"Excellent, I love roasted marshmallows!" said Tess.

"Who's got the matches?" Charlotte asked as she assembled some dried leaves and twigs together in a clearing.

"Here you go!" said Grace as she tossed a book of matches to Charlotte. "I've got some tins here. What do people want to eat?"

"What are the options?" Regan asked

"Well, let's see what we've got here. I've got raviolis, some beef stew, chicken noodle soup and a uh, what looks like a single can of black beans." Grace answered while looking at what was in the saddle bag.

"Just a tin of beans, not like chili or anything? I think I'll pass on those." teased Jaz.

"Yeah, I'm not sure what happened there. I've got plenty of the other three, so everyone dig in!"

"I brought something too!" Jodi smiled, as she pulled a bottle of whiskey out of her saddle bag.

"Okay, so I nominate Jodi as the best packer on the trip." Grace declared, as she took a big swig of the whiskey bottle before passing it.

"I dunno guys, these marshmallows are pretty perfect right now too." said Regan with her mouth full of marshmallows.

"Team effort guys," said Tess as she swigged the bottle. "I think they are perfect together, just like the McLeod women." She offered the bottle to Charlotte.

"I guess I don't have to sneak around with my friends anymore, I'm eighteen now, I can drink and I don't have to hide it from you adults."

"Thanks for reminding us how old we are." said Jaz.

"Sorry I'm still new at this adult thing." Charlotte said as she took a swing of the whiskey and passed the bottle to Jaz.
