Chapter 173

Dylan was calling the sat phone. It was ringing in Regan's pocket.

"Baby! Oh my God I love you. I'm so glad you're okay. I'm coming. I'll be there soon." said Dylan.

"I love you. I'm okay. Charlotte saved us."

"We are following the GPS signal on the camera. We are pulling up to the mine now. Stay where you are. We are coming to get you. Stay put, keep your eyes open, we haven't confirmed that he's working alone."

"Okay. just hurry please."

"I'm about fifteen minutes out. I'm going to hang up so you can stay alert. I love you"

Charlotte handed her rifle down to Jodi and started shaking and crying. The adrenaline wore off and she was suddenly overcome with the terror she had pushed back. She had her hands over her stomach and was rocking back and forth in the saddle.

"I just couldn't lose you all. I was so scared. What if he shot you? What if I lost you all. My family. I couldn't lose you," Charlotte was sobbing.

Grace reached up and grabbed Charlotte's hand. "Charlotte, why don't you come down from there."

Tess and Jodi were still armed with weapons drawn in case anyone else came unexpectedly.

Grace helped guide Charlotte down off the horse and she collapsed onto the ground. Grace sat down with Charlotte and just held her and let Charlotte work out the emotion of what she had just experienced.

"Girls? Are you okay?" Dylan's voice rang out through the trees. He and the other officers had arrived.

"Dylan!" Regan ran to her husband and wrapped her arms around him.

"I shouldn't have let you go without me." Dylan said to his wife. "We should have found a different solution. This was really stupid. I'll never put you at risk like this again. I love you."
