It's Friday, the Stewarts have tickets to the water park; the kids have been excited about it for weeks. They were a birthday gift from Uncle Steve. Holly is at work while Gail is home with the kids, she has already picked them up from school, Holly's supposed to leave work at 2pm, then they are all going to go to the indoor water park. It's quarter to two and Gail's phone rings, "hey, you leaving early?"
"About that…"
"No, Holly don't do this, don't say what I think you're going to say," Gail says, raising her hand to cover her eyes.
"I wont be able to make it."
"Holly, I said don't say that."
Holly sighs, "Gail you know I want to go to the water park, the kids have been excited about it for weeks and wont stop talking about it, of course I want to go with them."
Gail sighs, "what am I supposed to tell the kids, they were so excited for us to be going as a family."
"I have to work late Gail, I'll be home for dinner, it's not like neither of us have worked late before."
Gail knows, it's just that she's noticed a change in the kids, she's noticed that something is off and something is bugging them, and she was hoping with her and Holly together maybe they'd be able to bring up the subject with the kids. Gail tries a different route, "you're not going to make me go on my own are you?" That gets a bit of a laugh from Holly, so Gail continues, "I love our kids, obviously, but other people's kids, with all the screaming and crying and yelling, come on Holly, please don't make me go on my own."
Any other time Gail pleading to Holly would have worked, sadly some beep noise is heard on Holly's end, "I'm sorry Gail, I have to go, I'll see you tonight, try calling Steve if you don't want to go by yourself, he got us the tickets."
Gail is unable to say anything to her wife before the line is dead. But Gail does like that idea, Steve, he is the one who bought their tickets…
Unfortunately for Gail, Steve wasn't answering his phone when she tried to call him, so instead she took the kids herself to the water park. Fortunately for the kids, it was just Gail who took them to the water park, sure they love their Uncle Steve, but they really wanted to spend time with their mom. Of course the three of them had fun, how can two young kids and their childlike mom not have fun at a water park? And they hit it at the perfect time too, when they got there parents were ushering their kids out having already spent way too many hours there, so it wasn't as crowded as Gail had feared. They went down the big slides on tubes and let the lazy river take them around, they played with the water cannons and watched kids and adults wipe out on the indoor surfing thing.
They get home and find Holly already there, feeling bad about not going with the family to the water park; she made them their favourite meal. Holly knows her wife well enough that to make up for something, even if it's slightly out of Holly's control like being forced to stay late at work, the best way to smooth things over is through her stomach, and their kids have followed Gail in that regard, best way to smooth things over with the children is to make them something delicious. Holly lets Gail take a shower to wash all the chlorine off of her while she tends to the meal, once the blonde is done, she gets the kids to have quick showers too. Everyone's all clean and in their pajamas, Gail noticed how both kids were rubbing their eyes, completely tired after having spent multiple hours at the water park. "Perfect timing," says Holly as her family enters the kitchen, "Gail, want to help fill the plates, Gil get yourself and your sister some milk from the fridge, Laurel please take a seat." Everyone does as their told and they are all sitting around their kitchen table enjoying dinner together, telling Holly all about their trip to the water park.
After dinner and one episode of Scooby Doo, the kids were sent to bed, they were yawning all through dinner, Gail wasn't going to stay up that much later either and Holly was tired from a long day at work. Holly could tell that Gail was still a little miffed so she let her wife go up to their bedroom first and stayed downstairs to watch a bit of the news. After about a half hour she too makes her way upstairs and gets ready for bed, Gail's light is still on, the blonde is reading some book, Holly heads into the bathroom to brush her teeth and stuff, she walks back into the bedroom just as Gail turns out her light, Holly pulls back the quilt to get into the bed. "I don't like going to bed angry," says Holly as she settles into her spot.
Gail turns over to face the wall, "then don't go to bed."
Holly lying on her back staring up at the ceiling opens her mouth then closes it, she opens it up, but once again closes it, instead of saying what she really wanted to say, instead of saying something hurtful, she lets out a laugh and says, "you're such an ass sometimes."
Without missing a beat, Gail says, "well, you think my ass is sexy, so if I'm an ass, I'm sexy."
Holly laughs even more. Holly laughing always puts Gail in a good mood, she smiles.
Gail turns to face Holly, "Holly?"
"Yes Gail?"
"I love how you can call me out on being a jerk and it doesn't bother me, no one else can do it, just you. I love you."
"I love you too," Holly pulls the blonde towards her, "I truly am sorry I missed the water park, it sounds like you guys had a lot of fun, plus I always enjoy seeing you in a swimsuit."
Gail's yawn turns into a smile and snuggles into Holly, "there's always next time."
"Don't say that when the kids are around, they'll think we're going next week," Holly half jokes.
"No, next week I think I'll be in Moonbeam."
"Yeah?"
Gail yawns again, "yeah, Keith seems pretty sure Mrs. Crane was murdered and I want to see for myself and maybe see if there is any truth in what he's saying, look around a bit I guess."
"Okay," says Holly, "the kids and I will wait here for you, it's always a lot quieter when you're gone, but we'll manage."
Gail lets out a laugh through her nose, "quieter without me, I'll remember that," she silently laughs.
"I know you will," Holly kisses Gail's head.
After talking to Oliver on the phone and again at the station, he agreed to give Gail the week, he even offered to call ahead to the Moonbeam's Ontario Provincial Police and let them know she was coming. Gail told him that that wasn't necessary. She wanted to see for herself and not just go off of what Keith said about how the house looked suspicious, she doesn't want to jump to any conclusions. She doesn't necessarily want the police to know she's looking into it if it's nothing, she doesn't want to step on any toes, and she doesn't want people thinking she's there in an official capacity, not yet at least.
Gail's in the kitchen at the house that was hers in Moonbeam, the former Reid house, she's just reading through some reports at the table. She hears the front door open, "Gail?" she hears Holly call.
"Holly?" Gail immediately goes to greet her wife. "What are you doing here?"
"I thought I'd surprise you," Holly smiles sheepishly.
Gail wraps her arms around Holly, even though they've only been apart for a day she wants that connection with Holly, it's been a very full and stressful day. "What did you do with the kids?"
"Mom!" yells Laurel as she runs through the door, "where's the bathroom?" she asks as Gail let's go of Holly so she can bend down and pick up their daughter.
Gail gives her wife a 'you brought the kids?!' look, and quickly runs Laurel to the main floor bathroom. Gilbert walks into the house next, "help me with the bags," Holly says to her son.
"This is where you and mom met?" he asks as they grab their stuff out of the trunk.
Holly smiles at her son and tussles his hair, "yup."
"You guys pointed out the house, but we never went inside."
Holly nods her head, "it's not ours, but Gail said no one was living here so she was able to take it over again."
"Ah," he says. "When are we going to see Uncle Keith and Aunt Stacey?"
"Um, I don't know, I don't even know if they know we're all here. It's still early today; we can walk by once we're all settled." Holly sees the light that she's noticed been missing come back in Gilbert's eyes.
