South Dakota – Part 2
Hi everyone! Part 2 is posted! Yayyy! Wow I did not expect so many wonderful comments and reviews on the last chapter. It made my entire month and motivated me to get this chapter finished and posted.
Please enjoy! Again, thank you for sticking with the story and please continue to review. It does wonders for my motivation and overall interest in continuing.
AN: I'm sure most of you know this already, but due to some of the PMs I've been receiving I think it is important to note. This is fiction and I do not advocate this in real life. Both Holly and Dean will most likely say and do things you probably won't like or approve of at times. I am not saying one is in the wrong while the other is in the right. That is for you as a reader, to decide. I am not trying to make a point, preach or convince you of anything. This is simply a story for you to enjoy where the characters are flawed. Would make a pretty boring story if they weren't in my option lol.
WARNING: There is talk of SPANKING of an adult woman by an adult man. If you do not like this, do not read. There is also swearing.
The days went by with Holly reading Bobby's books and hanging out with the three men as they helped Bobby with his salvage services. She insisted on cooking dinner which none of the men complained about. It was a wonderful feeling of almost having a normal stable family, but deep-down Holly knew that it wouldn't last long and they would be back on the road Hunting again. However, that did not mean she wasn't going to enjoy every minute she could being at Bobby's place.
They had been at Bobby's place for almost a week and Holly was getting into a routine. That evening Bobby and Sam were pouring over some old lore books in the living room and Dean was out in the barn doing some work on his Impala. He had been in the barn for hours and Holly wondered if he wouldn't mind some company, besides, it was getting late.
Holly walked through the maze of old junk cars thinking about possibly making homemade pancakes tomorrow like her mother used to make. Her thoughts excited her and gave her a familiar warmth of comfort that she hadn't felt in a while. Holly smiled contently and looked up at the clear night sky that was speckled with bright stars. It was a beautiful clear night and Holly was grateful to see it. Something inside of Holly ached for Dean to see it with her. She found herself wanting to be around him and spend time with him. Even if he still refused to be with her, it did not make her desire to share things with him any less. Her heart ached for him, ached for his love, attention, touch and just company.
Holly opened the side barn door and found Dean crouched down by one of the front tires of his Impala. He was so engrossed in what he was doing that he didn't even notice Holly walked in. Holly cleared her throat alerting Dean to her presence. Dean looked over at Holly who was smiling at him through the side door of the barn. Dean's lips curled up into a small smile enjoying seeing her bright face. Dean's heart soared at seeing the woman happy. To Dean Holly was beautiful all the time, but there was nothing that compared to her when she was truly happy. It was like all of her beautiful features lit up and just enhanced her already stunning face.
Dean had noticed that Holly had been enjoying their time with Bobby. She smiled more and seemed to have a pep in her step. He noticed how she reveled in cooking for them and found joy in the most menial tasks. She was happy and in turn, Dean was becoming so himself. He found himself enjoying the simplicity of the days and although he knew this wouldn't last, it still gave him a nice sense of contentment as well.
"Come with me. I want to show you something." Holly said with a bit of childish excitement as she walked back out the door.
Dean stood up feeling somewhat confused and curious as to what Holly wanted to show him. He wiped his greasy hands with a rag staring at the door. Holly popped her head back in for a split second.
"Come on." She encouraged.
Dean just snorted in amusement at her childlike excitement as he threw the rag down and followed the woman with a curious look on his face. Dean walked out of the barn to see Holly sitting on the hood of an old beat up rusty red 1950 Chevy that looked fairly solid despite it missing its doors, tires and glass. Holly was facing away from him leaning back on the palms of her hands arching her neck slightly looking up at the sky. Her long dark hair hung down like a beautiful wavy silk curtain brushing against the hood. Holly turned slightly peaking over her shoulder to look at him then patted the hood to the side of her indicating that she wanted him to sit next her. Dean obliged and walked over to sit next to Holly wondering what she was so eager to show him. Once he sat down, he looked over at her taking in her lovely profile allowing his gaze to linger on her lips just long enough for it to be awkward. Dean licked his lips and cleared his throat as he snapped out of his thoughts.
"What was it you wanted to show me?" He asked trying to act like he was unaffected by her. Luckily for Dean Holly was clueless about his thoughts. Holly wrapped her arm in Dean's and leaned in slightly still looking upwards. Holly pointed to a cluster of stars.
"See that. Those four stars that make a box and a line of stars above it?" Holly asked with some excitement.
"Yeah." Dean said feeling Holly's warm body pressed against his arm.
"That's the Big Dipper which you probably already know, but if you follow the two pointer stars upwards, you'll see the North Star."
Dean blinked at Holly's fascination and delight at the night sky. She saw beauty in everything and Dean was slightly impressed that she knew anything about astronomy. He certainly didn't and found himself enjoying her pointing out things to him.
"And see that misshapen 'W'? That's Cassiopeia." Holly said gleefully then pointed in another direction.
"And that "X" with the stars in the middle. That's Orion's Belt."
Dean scrunched his eyebrows together in confusion wondering why Holly wanted to show him constellations. As far as he knew, it was information that was not needed for hunting.
"So, what's with the Astronomy lesson?" He asked curiously looking down at Holly with his intense green eyes.
Holly shrugged with a content smile on her face. "One day your child may ask you 'daddy, what's that in the sky?' and now you will be able to tell them."
Dean was dumbstruck at Holly's reasoning. He stared at her in fascination while she continued to look at the stars. Dean denied himself the simple pleasures of such thoughts. He never thought of becoming a father for the simple reason he felt severely underqualified and his line of work was not exactly kid friendly. Dean had never thought about the night sky or even cared to notice much about it. However, Holly seemed to bring beauty to things that Dean would have not even thought twice about if it wasn't for her. Despite him teaching her many things about Hunting and surviving, she was really the one that taught him more than he could ever teach her.
Dean gave a small humorless chuckle. "Don't think I'll be having any kids to tell." His tone held a disappointment that Holly did not miss.
"You may one day. Never know what the future might hold." Holly said encouraging Dean to perhaps gain some hope for a normal life one day.
"Not my future." Dean commented dully seeming to be clinging to the reality of what he knew. It was not that he did not want a family. He very much desired to have a family of his own. However, in his mind, it was just not possible. He was a Hunter and would always be a Hunter and he was not about to subject a child to the dangers of the Hunting world.
Holly said nothing and continued to look up at the sky blinking her bright brown eyes softly in thought.
Dean shook his head slightly. "Did you ever want to start a family?" He asked curiously genuinely wanting to know.
"Obviously in this line of work it's just not a good idea, but someday. Maybe." Holly said nodding her head as she shifted her gaze over to Dean. "I've always liked kids. Did I ever tell you I was studying to become a History teacher?" She asked cocking her head to the side a little.
"No." Dean said simply a little stunned that she was planning on becoming a teacher. He never thought that's what she wanted to do and felt a little guilty for not asking before. However, deep down he knew he never asked because he wanted her with him. And to hear her say she wanted a family someday made his heart sink. He wanted her to be happy and pursue her desires in life. However, it didn't make his heart hurt any less to know that she might someday leave him to have the life he desired with someone else.
"That's why I like research." Holly explained giving him a small smile.
"Also, you see this scar?" Holly pointed up to just above her eyebrow where a small little white scar lay raised on the skin. "I got this while falling out of a tree when I was ten years old. I scraped it on a branch on the way down." Dean's lips curled up ever so slightly his eyes fixed on her little scar. He always wondered about that. Without thinking Dean reached up to touch the scar with his thumb, but as his gaze drifted to her dark brown eyes, he stopped himself and brought his grease covered hand down looking away from her. Suddenly, remembering his purpose and reasoning to not get close to her. Holly was making it more and more difficult for him every day it seemed.
"Why are you telling me all this?" Dean asked in a deep voice, his tone hinting at disappointment and despondency.
"Just want you to know more about me." Holly said almost sadly giving him a half tight smile. She wanted him to know her better and she had hoped by opening up to him, he would in turn open up to her as well. Then little by little they could connect and possibly get Dean to turn towards the idea of a relationship again.
There were many things Holly didn't know about Dean. However, Dean was determined to keep it that way. There was some ugly stuff in his past that he did not care to reveal to her. She already knows how messed up he is from just what she knows. He had no dire to share things he was sure would lower her opinion of him even more.
Learning new things about Holly just made Dean fall for her even more. All the things she was telling him just made his heart ache for the woman. Dean wanted to say he loved hearing things about her, but couldn't bring himself to say it. The reality was they couldn't be together and therefore it was not only hard for him to express it, but in his mind, it would only exacerbate and complicate things worse than they are ready were.
Therefore, all he found himself saying was "It's getting late. We should probably go back inside." He voice was somewhat cold and unemotional.
Holly found her breathing increasing quickly as she was preparing herself for what she was about to ask. Holly licked her lips and swallowed as she looked over at the man.
"Dean, you think you and I could just try to…" Holly began, but Dean cut her off quickly.
"Don't ask me, Holly. I mean it, don't ask me." Dean's voice was tight and his tone held warning. Holly's breath caught in her throat as he glared at her sternly.
"I don't expect you to change your mind right now. I just…" Holly tried to explain, but was once again cut off.
"Don't expect it to change period, Holly. We cannot be together. I won't do it. Not in a couple days from now, not months from now, not years. It. Will. Not. Happen. So, damn it, quit asking me. If you ask me one more time, I swear I will put you over my knee." He growled in frustration through clenched teeth. It was torturous wanting her so badly and not being able to be with her. It was even worse when she kept reminding him of how much he loved her. He promised he would keep her safe and if that meant putting his feelings aside so be it. However, he could not bear her asking him anymore. It was becoming too painful and he feared Holly knew it.
Holly's heart broke. She felt like she had been punched in the stomach as she felt all the air knock out of her lungs. Her throat immediately became raw and tears lined her eyes. The pain was unmistakable in her eyes. She knew Dean didn't want a relationship, but she held that glimmer of hope that he would change his mind. That hope was now crushed as she began to realize that Dean would do everything in his power to keep them apart which now included breaking her heart. The worst part was not being rejected by Dean. The worst and most painful part was the fact that Dean loved her, he admitted he loved her, but refused to be with her. Even though he thinks he is doing it for her safety. It was of little comfort to Holly.
All of the wonderful things she was feeling suddenly turned into a world of utter sadness and despair. All the small pleasures she was feeling meant nothing. Without the man she loved it all seemed pointless. She felt an empty hole begin to consume her core. The tears dripped down her face silently as she turned her face away from Dean, not wanting him to witness her agony.
"Alright, Dean. I believe you." Holly whispered in a monotoned voice masking the pain.
"Holly…" Dean chocked out wanting to offer her some sort of comfort, but this time Holly cut him off.
"You should go back inside. I'm going to stay out a little bit longer." Holly expressed again with little emotion. She wanted to be alone.
Dean wanted to say something, but couldn't bring himself to speak. His heart was bleeding as he knew he hurt her badly. He expected her to yell at him and call him unreasonable, but she didn't, she simply turned from him. Dean reached out a hand to touch Holly's back, but hesitated deciding he had done enough. He simply nodded. I'm sorry, Holly. I'm so sorry.
"Alight, but come back inside soon. It's starting to get cold." He found himself ordering softly knowing the nights were getting colder and he didn't want Holly to get sick.
Holly said nothing as her back was turned away from him. Dean accepted the silence knowing she did not want him around anymore. He planned to check on her if she didn't come back inside in ten minutes, but hoped she was be inside by then. Dean got up and began to walk away from her as his eyes filled with tears.
Holly brushed away her tears with her fingers sniffling as she tried to compose herself but the tears kept flowing down her face like trickles of rain drops. Holly blinked up at the sky with blurry eyes realizing that the stars were perhaps not nearly as stunning as she once thought. Perhaps she was not as strong she initially suspected and perhaps, she was wrong all along and could no longer endure this.
Suddenly, nothing else seemed to matter without Dean. She could not keep getting rejected by the man who says he loves her, but refuses to be with her. It was a torture Holly had never known and it was consuming every part of her. She thought it was a horrible way for the heart to die.

After composing herself as much as she could Holly made her way back inside the house heading straight for the stairs wanting to avoid running into anyone, especially Dean.
Sam looked up from his book just in time to see Holly making her way upstairs not even bothering to look his way or acknowledge him at all. She looked dishearten as she kept her eyes to the floor. Holly had been unusually joyful since their stay at Bobby's and to see her run upstairs looking dejected Sam knew something had happened. Sam leaned forward from the couch shutting the book. Just then Dean walked in with an empty beer in one hand and a half empty one in another. Sam watched him as he sat in the chair opposite the couch.
"Wanna beer?" Dean asked as Sam eyed the two beers in his hands.
Sam shook his head indicating that he did not want one. He placed the book on the coffee table then looked back up at Dean.
Sam scrunched his eyebrows together. "Is Holly okay?" Sam asked trying not to indicate that he had a strong suspicion that Dean had something to do with Holly's distress.
Dean looked up at Sam with a stern expression, but there was clear guilt behind his eyes that Sam recognized. "She ran upstairs looking upset. Did you say something to her?"
"Sam." Dean growled with warning clearly not wanting to talk to his brother about this. "What was said was between me and Holly. It's none of your business."
Sam shook his head and scoffed. "She asked for a relationship again, didn't she? And you exploded, right?" Sam asked not hiding his annoyance towards his brother one bit. Sam was getting sick of Dean's attitude finding Dean morphing into his father little by little. His unwavering disposition and immovable mind was infuriating and costing him a great deal.
"Sam." Dean growled with warning indicating that he was really pushing it. Dean was clearly on edge, but Sam either refused to acknowledge it or simply didn't care.
"Dean, I-I don't see why you can't just try it." Sam pushed frustrated as he rubbed his temples with his thumb and forefinger feeling a headache coming on.
Dean's jaw clenched tightly as his eyes narrowed piercing his brother with a fierce glower.
"I am getting real sick of explaining myself over and over again. I have made my decision and I swear Sammy if you ask me one more time, I'm going to punch you in the face. I- am-done-talking -about-it." Dean bit off every word with a venomous tone. Dean was clearly angry and was on the verge of exploding with emotion at his brother. It was like a stab in the heart every time it was brought up and it was slowly eating away at him on the inside and he wasn't sure how much he could take anymore. Seeing Holly's hurt face was enough to make his heart bleed with pain. The last thing he needed was his brother lecturing him.
"I cannot be with Holly end of story and this is the last time I'm going to tell you to back off." Dean growled the words heatedly, his tone full of irritation, but sadness and fear did not escape his eyes. Sam noticed.
Sam just stared at his brother with a concerned expression. He could tell his brother was in a lot of pain at the moment and feared Dean was not handle things with Holly as well as he thought he could. Whatever, Holly and Dean expressed to each other, he saw Dean was breaking down.
Dean ran a trembling hand through his hair and shook his head his heart full of emotion and frustration.
"I wish Holly and I never met; in fact, I wish I'd never set eyes on the woman. She's been the worse pain in my ass I've ever had…."
At the top of the stairs Holly physically stepped back like she was pushed harshly. Holly had heard all that her heart could handle. She turned away from the top of the stair and immediately went into the guest room.
"….but we did meet and I fell in love with one of the most stubborn, reckless, goodhearted woman the Hunting world has ever seen. And I intend to protect her, even from me." With that Dean got up and left the room having a painful desire to be alone.
Once she made it to the room Holly laid flat on the bed staring at the ceiling feeling her whole self go numb. She laid there for almost an hour before moving to wash her face and brush her teeth for the night. Holly was unable to sleep and after hours of deliberation in her head she decided and began to pack her bag.
Holly crept into the kitchen careful not to wake up Sam who was sleeping on the couch. Holly took a quick peek at the clock that read 2:05AM. The men wouldn't be up for hours. Holly wrote a note on Bobby's note pad by the telephones leaving it on the table for the men to find in the morning. Knowing the front door squeaked loudly, Holly went into the kitchen to go out the back door.
"Where are you going?"
Holly nearly jumped out of her skin, but to her credit did not scream. She turned around to see Bobby in the door way of the kitchen looking at her worriedly.
"Bobby." Holly exclaimed softly as she looked at the man sadly with clear guilt on her face looking down at her boots. She felt somewhat ashamed for sneaking away, it was not like her to do something like this and it made her embarrassed to be caught like a teenager sneak out at night. "I'm sorry, Bobby, but I have to leave."
"Without saying anything?" Bobby whispered loudly with shock in his voice.
Holly put her head down licking her lips feeling a weight of guilt in her chest.
"Whatever it is we can work it out and talk in the morning over some breakfast. You don't need to leave like this. You'll worry Sam and Dean to death taking off this way." Bobby was trying desperately to convince Holly to stay. He knew Sam and Dean would not only be concerned for her but utterly heartbroken.
"I left a note for them. Talking won't work. I've tired, Bobby…I just have to go. It's better this way, please believe me." Holly said as she felt her throat become raw once again. Despite feeling it was for the best, it was still painful to leave and it broke her heart.
"And what am I supposed to tell Sam and Dean? That you just left?" Bobby asked desperately feeling confused.
Holly felt a panic in her chest. "Please, please don't tell them. Wait till morning. It's better if I go now. You got to trust me on this. Please I'm asking you to just wait." She was practically begging him; her eyes were desperate.
Bobby sighed heavily beginning to feel more and more convinced that he was not going to change the woman's mind about leaving.
"You know they'll come after you and believe me they will find you." Bobby said with strong certainty trying to explain that she wouldn't get far before Sam and Dean would be on her trail.
Holly knew that they would probably find her eventually, they were incredible trackers and living with them for over a year she did not doubt their skills to find what they are looking for. Although she did not want them to find her, in her heart she knew it was probably inevitable. However, that did not mean she wasn't going to try her best to get away.
"Even if they do, it won't change my mind. Please just let me go." Holly pleaded starting to feel her eyes burn.
"Do you realize what you're asking me?" Bobby asked almost accusingly.
"Yes, and I know I'm asking a lot. But trust me it's better for Sam and Dean if I just go." Her eyes were imploring the man looking at him desperately for mercy.
Holly knew she was just one big problem for Sam and Dean. She seemed to be putting a rift between them and her stubbornness and reckless nature puts them in danger often. But most of all she could not bear to be around the man she loved who refused her. She concluded that if she just leaves that they'll be safer, happier and just over all better off without her. There was just too much in favor of her leaving that her mind was made up.
To Holly's surprise and satisfaction Bobby nodding slowly giving into her reluctantly. Holly shoulders visibly relaxed as she felt a wave of relief wash over her.
"Alright, fine. I won't stop you, but I can't say I agree with you." Bobby's voice rasped with compunction.
"Thank you, Bobby. Thank you." Holly gave him an impulsive quick hug to show her gratitude and if she was being honest, her love as well. She went out the back door with one last grateful glance at Bobby before closing the door. Bobby had an uneasy feeling in the pit of his gut. His instincts fought against letter her go. And although part of him wanted to refuse her request, he found it hard to go against her decision and wishes. It was her choice and he felt he had no right to stop her. He had only really known her for a week, but there was a strong instinct to protect her and keep her safe. Part of it was because Sam and Dean cared for her a great deal and losing her would be more heartbreak that he wasn't sure they could ever truly recover from, especially Dean. Bobby was not blind and knew what that girl meant to Dean. Holly's last glance at Bobby was so innocent and young. He almost immediately regrated letting her go.
"Don't thank me." Bobby mumbled begrudgingly after she closed the door.
Rumsfeld watch as Holly walked past him, giving him a quick pat on the head as a thank you for not barking. Holly looked back once more with tear filled eyes before walking down the driving way and onto the road.

Sam, Dean, Bobby,
Sorry that you are getting this in a note, but I've decided it is best if I just move on. I'm sorry, it has to be this way, but you know it is for the better. I tired, but I just can't continue like this. I promise I'll be fine.
Holly
Dean stared at the note in pure horror. "Where the hell does she think she's going to go on foot?" Dean turned to Sam looking as terrified and angered as he could be. "Did you know about this?" He demanded his face stiff.
"No." Sam immediately admitted. "I saw her go upstairs to her room last night just like you did and that's the last time I saw her." Sam was feeling panic grow inside him.
Dean brows frowned in distain and worry as he looked back down at the note. He quickly crumpled the piece of paper in his hand and shoved it in his pocket stomping towards the door. "Come on, she got at least a few hours head start on us."
"Dean." Sam said stopping his brother at the door. "She probably doesn't want us to follow her. She might need some space and time to think. I know that's what I needed when I was feeling bad. She might just have to work out somethings on her own."
"I'm not just going to let her leave because she personally thinks it's for the better. If she needs to work things out, I will help her work things out." Dean declared allowing his fear to cloud his mind as all he could think of at the moment was Holly had left them.
"Will you, Dean? Or will you just tell her she was wrong and order her to come back? Because I promise you that will not work." Sam stated strongly trying to give his brother a reality check.
Dean stared at his brother his frustration. "I plan on telling her she is wrong because she is and I will tell her to come back, but that does not mean I'm going to ignore what she is feeling. I intend to ask her about this bullshit."
"It isn't bullshit to her, Dean. Whatever you said to her last night she took seriously, Dean and now she's gone. She left and obviously for a good reason according to her. I just…I just want you to be prepared that she might not want to come back. I mean you made it abundantly clear that you will not have a relationship with her." Sam pushed thinking there was more than just Dean telling her they couldn't have a relationship again.
Dean pushed his eyebrows together giving his brother a stern look as he thought about what he said to Holly last night. He remembered her saddened hurt face as she turned away from him coldly after he told her the relationship would never happen. Dean knew that was the reason she must have left, but he had told her that many times. The only difference this time was that she said she believed him. Was that the finally straw? Was that what made her leave without saying a word?
Dean knew he had hurt Holly's feelings and it killed him seeing her so sad, but he never imagined she would just leave them without saying a word. Holly was always a fighter, very stubborn and tended to stand her ground not letting words get to her completely, but this time it seems Dean was wrong. Holly had decided that she was not going to stay with them if she did not have hope of a relationship with him. Dean realized he had finally broken her hope and the consequence of that was dire. The woman he loved left.
Dean suddenly felt his body physically shake and felt his breath stop for a moment. His stomach felt sick as worry, fear and pain began to consume him.
Sam just stared at him with apprehension.
"She left around 2AM. You boys better get a move on." Bobby said walking up from behind them.
Dean turned to look at Bobby in utter astonishment and anger. "You knew about this?!" Dean roared with frustration.
"And you didn't say anything?" Sam asked shocked and a bit hurt by Bobby as well.
"She asked me not to." Bobby said simply staying true to his word.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Dean yelled with fury thinking if Bobby would have told him, Dean could have possibly gotten her to stay and all this could have been avoided.
"Don't raise your voice at me, boy. I am not the one that made her leave. It was her choice. Now if you want her back, get in the damn car and find her, but like Sam said she might not want to come back. So, you think real hard about what you are going to say to her when you do find her."
Dean's eyes grew wide with fear feeling his chest raise and fall with heavy breaths. His attempt to hide the worry in his eyes failed as Dean's strong mask melted away for a few seconds to show the true horror on his face of what Bobby was saying. Without a word Dean turned and stomped out the door with the full intention on getting the woman back.
