"So teenagers," Megan asked Owen and Teddy during a Saturday afternoon facetime call.
"Complicated," Teddy said, "he's only 11."
"But I don't know what to do about the video games," Megan said.
"I didn't have them at my house," Teddy said, "she didn't need them. I didn't buy a game system or games, we had tons of board games and card games."
"Time limits but even then the Wii was only ever on when she had friends over," Owen said, "I limited it."
"What did you have her do instead," Megan asked.
"Read, go play, art, cook, bake, swim," Owen said, "lots of sports."
"So baby girl," Megan asked.
"Due tomorrow," Teddy smiled, "I feel massive."
"So did I," Megan remembered.
"I just want her out," Teddy replied, 'it's time for baby girl to come out."
"I remember that feeling," Megan replied, "have you tried anything?"
"Everything," Teddy replied, "Owen must be sick of me."
"He was sick of me," Megan laughed, "but little sister vs wife."
"Girlfriend," Teddy replied, "he hasn't asked we haven't been together a year yet."
"But you're having a baby," Megan said.
"We'll have three kids," Teddy smiled.
"Has anyone talked to Alyssa today," Megan asked.
"She's been with SAR all day," Owen said, "they went after a missing skier at 8 last night. She was up all night looking. They found him in a tree well. She's home now. Cold, hungry and tired. She was going to bed early."
"I need her to tell me when she does that," Megan said.
"We always know," Teddy assured, "it's in our group chat. I'll be back. I need the bathroom."
Teddy stood up and Megan shouted, "wow Teddy!"
"She's huge," Teddy said, hands on her belly.
"She's low," Megan commented.
"I know I'm waddling," Teddy said, "I can feel her in my pelvis."
"You okay," Megan asked.
"Cramping and pressure," Teddy replied.
"It's time," Megan said, "I remember this with Alyssa. I was so uncomfortable and unhappy. Lyss was almost 10 early. My mom was to come a week before"
"I'm uncomfortable," Teddy agreed, "but I have to go."
Teddy walked to the washroom.
"48 hours," Megan told Owen.
"Really," Owen asked.
"48 hours and she's in labour," Megan said.
"We'll see," Owen said.
"Owen," Teddy shouted, "Owen!"
"Teddy," Owen asked.
"My water broke," Teddy screamed.
"I was right," Megan said, "go."
Owen ran to the washroom.
"Teddy," Owen asked.
"Fuck," Teddy hissed.
"Contraction," Owen asked.
Teddy nodded.
Owen hugged her.
"That's unexpected," Teddy said.
"She's due tomorrow," Owen said, "she's ready."
"It hurts," Teddy said.
"Let's have a seat and relax," Owen said, "we'll get you clean clothes."
Owen helped Teddy upstairs and to get clean clothes before calling Evelyn to come get Leo.
When Evelyn arrived Leo was storing in Teddys lap with a bottle. Teddy gave Leo a hug before passing him to Evelyn.
"Teddy," Evelyn asked.
"I'll be okay," Teddy replied, "still 7 minutes apart."
"Leo give mommy a kiss and we'll go have a sleep over," Evelyn said. Leo gave Teddy a kiss on the check.
Once they left Teddy and Owen paced the living room.
"Let's go," Owen said.
Teddy nodded and leaned against him.
"Okay," Owen whispered, "I've got you."
Owen helped her to the car and drove to the hospital. Carina met them in OB.
"Teddy," Carina smiled, "are you ready to meet your Bambina?"
"Yes," Teddy replied.
"I'm going to step out then you can change into a gown so I can check you," Carina said, "panties off please."
Owen helped Teddy change and get settled on the bed.
Carina returned to do her exam, "okay Teddy your 5cm so half way."
"Can we walk," Teddy asked.
"Walk, shower," Carina said, "stay upright."
"Walk," Teddy replied.
Owen helped put another gown around her back before they walked a few laps of the OB floor. When Teddy had enough they retired to her room. Owen helped her to sit up in the bed and sat beside her holding her hand and offering her water. Teddy leaned against Owen as he held her.
"She's almost here," Owen reminded Teddy, "she's so excited to meet you."
Teddy nodded. Before wincing again.
"Teddy you don't have to sit quietly," Owen assured, "if you want to yell at me, swear, groan, make noises nothing is going to push me away."
"Call Carina," Teddy groaned.
"Teddy," Owen asked.
"I need her out now," Teddy whimpered.
Carina came in and did her final exam, "it's time Teddy whenever you're ready."
"I thought I'd have more time," Teddy groaned.
"With your age," Carina said, "somethings things move faster."
"My age" Teddy shouted.
"It's the facts," Carina said.
"I know what it is but you don't need to make it worse," Teddy snapped.
"Okay," Carina said, "when you're ready."
"Owen," Teddy asked.
"I'm right here," he assured, "I'm with you. Hold my hand."
"Owwwww," Teddy screamed.
"Good," Carina said, "I see her head."
Owen moved to see what was happening.
"No," Teddy said, "you don't get to see the war zone between my legs. No more PTSD for you."
"Teddy she's almost here," Owen said, "our baby girl is almost here."
Teddy pushed again, clinging to Owen's hand.
"Wait," Carina directed, "give it a minute."
"I have to push," Teddy sobbed.
"No you push you tear," Carina said, "breathe."
"Distract me," Teddy begged.
"I love you," Owen said, brushing her hair away from her face with his free hand, "I have loved you from the moment I met you. I want this, I want our family. We are going to be great. I love you Teddy, I love you so much."
"Oww," Teddy groaned curling forward and pushing with everything she had.
"There's the head," Carina said, "one more."
"Come on Teddy," Owen said, "she's almost here."
"Here's your baby girl," Carina smiled after a couple more pushes.
"I want her," Teddy reached for the baby.
"Dr Hunt do you want to cut the umbilical cord," Carina asked.
Owen let go of Teddy's hand and cut the umbilical cord before bringing the baby to Teddy.
"Here's our daughter," Owen smiled.
"She's beautiful," Teddy sighed.
"What's her name," Carina asked.
"Allison," Owen and Teddy said together. Teddy snuggled the baby while Owen watched.
"Do you want to hold her," Teddy asked Owen.
"Yes," Owen smiled taking their daughter from Teddy's arms.
"Hi Allison," Owen whispered to the baby, "I'm your dad. Mommy is right here. You have a big brother named Leo and a very special cousin named Alyssa but she's already a grown up and another cousin named Faroke."
They took turns holding the baby.
"I think she's hungry," Teddy said.
"Should I get a bottle," Owen asked.
"No I'm going to do it," Teddy replied, "but I want you to stay with me."
"What do you need," Owen asked.
"Water," Teddy said, "I feel really dehydrated."
"I'll get you some," Owen said, "are you hungry?"
"No," Teddy replied, "what time is it?"
"9pm," Owen replied.
"We should call," Teddy said.
"Who first," Owen asked.
"Her big sister," Teddy said.
"She'll come down tonight," Owen replied.
"I know," Teddy replied, "she has keys."
"I'll never take her keys," Owen replied, "Lyss will always have keys to our house even if we move she will be welcome to come and go as needed."
"I wouldn't dream of her not having keys," Teddy agreed.
Owen phoned Alyssa.
"Uncle Owen," Alyssa answered.
"She's here," Owen said.
"The baby," Alyssa asked.
"Yes," Owen said.
"What's her name? Is Auntie Teddy okay," Alyssa asked.
"Allison Evelyn Hunt - Altman," Owen said, "she's great. Teddy is tired but good."
"How big is she," Alyssa asked.
"7 pounds on the dot," Owen replied, "20 inches long."
"Do you have pictures," Alyssa asked.
"I'll send you some," Owen agreed, "and we'll call your mom and grandma next."
"Me first," Alyssa asked.
"You're her big sister and you share a middle name," Owen said.
"For grandma," Alyssa replied.
"For grandma," Owen agreed.
"And mom's is Great Grandmas," Alyssa replied.
"I have great grandpas and we changed Leo's name legally," Owen said, "Leo is a nick name he's Daniel James Hunt-Altman."
"Grandpa," Alyssa said, "and All 4 of us are Hunt."
"Your cousins are Hunt-Altman," Owen replied.
"When can I meet her," Alyssa asked.
"Tomorrow," Owen replied, "come see us tomorrow."
Owen finished calling the family and curled up with Teddy on the bed.
"You okay," Owen asked.
"Tired," Teddy yawned, "no visitors tonight?"
"No," Owen said, "mom, Leo and Lyss tomorrow and Megan said soon."
"Owen are you happy," Teddy asked while looking at baby Allison.
"I am," Owen smiled, "Teddy are you."
"Yes," she confirmed.
"We didn't have dinner do you want me to get you something to eat," he offered.
"Ya," she agreed, "burgers."
"I'll see what's still in the cafeteria," Owen said, "or use Uber Eats."
"Uber Eats the good place," she said.
"Your usual with cheese and bacon," he asked.
"Yes," she confirmed, "and onion rings and a milkshake."
"Hungry," he asked.
"Starving," she confirmed, "I just pushed a human out of my body. Owen I made another human. I was never supposed to be able to have kids and I made another human."
"You did," he said, "Teddy's she's gorgeous."
"Did you mean what you said," she asked.
"That I've always loved you," he said, "yes. I don't just want today or for now Teddy I want the rest of our lives."
"The rest of our lives," she agreed, "I love you."
"I love you too," he smiled.
She leaned up and kissed him. He gently returned the kiss before smiling at her.
