The morning of the wedding Alyssa drove Teddy to the park.
"You ready," Alyssa asked.
"I am," Teddy smiled, "Lyss are you sure you're okay with this."
"I want this for you guys," Alyssa replied, "our family."
"Our family," Teddy agreed, "were only going to grow as your family grows."
"You guys," Alyssa asked.
"We might adopt again," Teddy replied, "I'm too old to have another baby. I'm glad I had Allison but if we have another child we'll adopt."
"I agree that once is enough," Alyssa replied.
"You are young enough to still change your mind," Teddy replied.
"I've always wanted two being an only child was lonley," Alyssa replied, "but are you sure you want this small of a wedding."
"It's the people that matter most to us," Teddy assured, "that's what we want."
"At least I get to come with you this time," Alyssa replied.
"You've been to all of his," Teddy replied, "you sat with me at the first one."
"With you and Grandma," Alyssa remembered, "are you ready?"
"I am," Teddy assured.
They walked through the park to meet the rest of the Family, Matt having gone with Megan and Faroke to pick up Evelyn.
Alyssa made her way tot he family ahead of Teddy who had wanted a moment to her self before the ceremony.
"Gorgeous," Megan smiled at her daughter, "Lyss you look good."
"Not too," Alyssa asked, smoothing her green maxi dress over her bump.
"Just perfect," Megan smiled.
Teddy arrived and they began the ceremony after a round of hugs. They took their places in a semi circle facing Owen and Teddy.
Just as the priest was about to start their vows a group of tandem bikes rode through their group. Owen grabbed Teddy and the stroller while Evelyn pulled Leo back and Megan pulled her own kids back, Matt jumped out of the way. Unfortunately they weren't fast enough to prevent the priest from being hurt.
Watching Owen and Teddy get in one ambulance with the priest and Megan hop in with one of the injured cyclists Alyssa turned to Evelyn, "so grandma?"
"We take your brother and cousins home," Evelyn replied, "and you're going to take those heels off you shouldn't be wearing them anyway."
"Grandma can you take Leo and Allison and Matt and I are going to hang out with Faroke," Alyssa asked.
"That sounds like a good idea, sweetheart," Evelyn agreed.
They all drove back to Owens and changed into more casual clothes.
"Faroke you're with us," Alyssa directed, "Grandma has the littles and you and I need some time together."
"It's okay," Faroke said.
"You're my baby brother and I hardly know you," Alyssa replied, "shoes on and get in the truck."
"She's bossy," Faroke remarked to Evelyn.
"She grew up with your mom then between uncle Owen and Auntie Teddy," Evelyn replied, "she learned from them."
"Uncle Owen is the bossiest," Alyssa laughed.
"You really grew up here," Faroke asked.
"I moved a lot until middle school," Alyssa replied.
"Where do you live now," Faroke asked.
"I have my house in Burnaby," Alyssa replied, "you and mom are supposed to come up with us after the weekend and finally see it. And Mom and I are going to do some shopping for the girls' nursery."
"You and your mom," Evelyn asked.
"I want her to come look with me," Alyssa replied.
"You should," Evelyn agreed, "Lyss it's a good olive branch for the two of you."
"Lets go," Matt said.
"What do you want to do," Alyssa asked Faroke as they got in the truck.
"Food," Faroke asked.
"I could go eat," Alyssa agreed.
"Will you come see mom and I more now," Faroke asked.
"We will once the babies are here," Alyssa promised, "I shouldn't really be flying to California right now."
"Why not," Faroke asked.
"It's not safe for the babies," Alyssa replied, "you and mom are going to come up and see us when the babies are born and we should all be in Seattle for Christmas."
"You're not coming," Faroke asked.
"I want to," Alyssa replied, "but at that point I'll be really, really pregnant. The babies will be born anytime between the end of January and the middle of February. There's a chance I'll end up in the hospital at the end. We'll decide if I can travel with my doctor and midwife right before."
"You have to come," Faroke said.
"We will try," Alyssa promised.
Owen, Teddy and Megan scrubbed out of surgery looking dejected.
"Come with me," Megan commanded, grabbing Owen's arm.
"Why," Owen asked.
"Just come with me," Megan replied, she dragged him into the Attendings lounge.
"What," Owen asked.
"You are still getting married today," Megan said, "you and Teddy need this. Owen it's time. You two are together, you have a beautiful family. "
"And you and Riggs broke up and didn't tell us," Owen said.
"My kids knew," Megan replied, "were good at hiding things in this family."
"Megan," Owen signed.
"Don't Megan me," Megan replied, "you knew about Lyss and didn't tell me."
"She asked us not to," Owen replied, "but why did you pull me in here."
"You two are getting married," Megan said, "we will get you two married."
"How," Owen asked, "we don't have a priest."
"I'll do it," Megan replied, "you can get ordained online. Who better?"
"Megan," Owen sighed, "what will Teddy think?"
"Do it for her Owen," Megan replied, "she's been waiting 20 years for you. She's always stepped up to make you happy. Lets do this for her."
"She wants it," Owen said.
"Then we'll figure it out," Megan said.
"Mom, the kids," Owen said.
"Call them," Megan said, "I'll figure out getting ordained."
Megan googled as Owen called Alyssa.
"Uncle Owen," Alyssa answered.
"Lyss," Owen said, "can you get grandma and the other kids to Jo's?"
"Why," Alyssa asked.
"We've figure out how to still get married but we're surprising auntie Teddy," Owen said.
"So I have to smuggle three under age kids into a bar," Alyssa asked.
"Yes," Owen replied, "you have Grandma and Matt, just do it Lyss."
Megan was furiously clicking things on her phone.
"So I'm getting ordained," Megan said, "and I haven't been to church in 20 years."
"Megan," Owen asked.
"I do a few forms online, give them my drivers licence and Social Security number and I'm done," Megan replied, "it's legal."
"Megan," Owen asked.
"It's time Owen that you and Teddy are happy," Megan said, "you two deserve happiness. I want to see you happy."
"Are you," Owen asked.
"Ya riggs and I breaking up sucks but long term we'll be okay," Megan replied, "I'll date when I'm ready. I have my kids and grandkids I'll be okay."
"You've loved him," Owen started.
"As long as you've loved Teddy," Megan replied, "let one of us have our happy ending. Eeyore I made a choice that I'm happier with out him. It's not that I dislike him, were going to try being friends but you and Teddy that's the real deal, it's forever. You've taken on making sure everyone else gets their happy ending, let yourself have yours."
"But," Owen started.
"Mom and My kids will help pull it off," Megan said, "you raised Alyssa as much as I did you know what she's like."
"Shell do it for us," Owen replied, "but is this fair to Teddy?"
"Who's idea was the mini wedding," Megan asked.
"Hers to just have immediate family," Owen replied.
"Okay," Megan replied.
Alyssa told Evelyn what was going on and they helped the little two get dressed back in their wedding outfits.
"Lyss," Matt asked.
"I'm okay," Alyssa assured, "Matt I'm good."
"It's later you're tired," Matt argued.
"And I'm going to see the people who got me through the worst moments of my life get married." Alyssa said, 'lets go."
They got ready again and loaded into two cars to go.
"Lyss,' Evelyn asked.
"Just a bit tired grandma," Alyssa smiled, "but I want to go and see them married."
"You and your babies,' Evelyn asked.
"They're kicking so I think they're happy," Allison replied.
"Just take it easy sweetheart," Evelyn replied, 'no lifting Allison and Leo if you're tired."
They walked into the bar and found seats.
"Let's go grab a drink,' Owen said leading Teddy downstairs.
"I just want to go home," Teddy sighed.
"Teddy,' Owen said, "just trust me."
"Owen, can we go home and try another day," Teddy asked.
"One drink," Owen said, "come on."
Teddy sighed and let him lead her into Jo's.
"Surprise," Megan and Alyssa smiled.
"What," Teddy asked.
"Let's do this," Megan said.
"Owen," Teddy asked.
"We're getting married," Owen smiled.
"Here," Teddy asked.
"Yes," Alyssa smiled.
"But we don't have a priest," Teddy said.
"I just got ordained in 15 minutes in the attendings lounge. I knew I would have to be the one to do this," Megan teased.
"But this dress smells like antiseptic and the whole place is decorated for the phoenix fair," Teddy said.
"It's our theme," Owen said.
"Okay you stand here," Megan directed pulling Teddy and Owen to their spots.
"But your mom and our kids and Faroke," Teddy said.
"Right there," Alyssa pointed.
"Okay," Teddy agreed.
Megan began the ceremony and those filling the bar smiled knowing the long journey Teddy and Owen had had to this point. To be married by his sister, Teddy's closest friend and to have their oldest child as their witness.
"Owen," Teddy smiled, "you've been my best friend for years, my other hand in surgery, my favourite person, even my cover in military operations. I love you. I love that you are there and how loyal and dependable you are. How you make me feel safe and loved. You brought me our family, three beautiful kids."
Alyssa made a face at the word kids.
"So you do," Megan asked.
"I do," Teddy shouted, 'I most definitely do!"
"By the power vested in my by the internet," Megan said, "I say you're married. Now kiss already!"
Owen kissed Teddy passionately.
"Alyssa," Meredith said taking a seat beside her.
"Hey," Alyssa smiled.
"You're," Meredith said.
"22 weeks with twins," Alyssa replied, "I'm good but I won't dance much."
"Married," Meredith asked.
"Not yet," Alyssa replied, "this is Matt."
"Mereidth Grey," Meredith introduced herself, "I knew Alyssa when she was in highschool, she babysat my kids."
"How is Zola," Alyssa asked, "I really only got to babysit her."
"She's good," Meredith said, "you ready?"
"I hope so," Alyssa replied, "mom and Faroke are coming up for a few days and her and I are going to start the nursery. Another generation of Hunt girls."
"Girls,' Meredith said.
"Two girls," Alyssa smiled, "but Auntie Teddy and Uncle Owen are finally married."
"Finally," Meredith laughed.
"I've wanted this since the first time he brought her home," Alyssa said, "why do you think I started calling her Auntie."
"Alyssa," MEredith laughed.
"I love Christina but she was more of a mentor than an parent," Alyssa replied, "I needed a mom. Auntie Teddy made the choice to be my mom when I needed her. She's going to me Oma to my girls."
"Oma," Meredith said.
"It's the German word for grandma," Alyssa said, "they're Oma and Opa."
"You have a father," Meredith said.
"He's a drunk," Alyssa replied, "Derek doesn't know yet and I'm not telling him any time soon. He doesn't care."
"I felt the same with my dad," Meredith said, "Alyssa give him a chance. I know he hurt you but you can choose. I wish I had chosen with Thatcher before he died. My mom didn't choose me yours chose you."
"She did," Alyssa said, 'they all did. But I'm going to take Leo and Allison home for them and let them relax and enjoy."
"They want you here," Meredith said.
"I'm exhausted," Alyssa admitted.
"Lyss come dance," Owen said, 'you and Matt should do a couple."
"One or two then we'll take Leo and Allison home for you," Alyssa agreed.
"You okay kiddo," Owen asked.
"Just tired," Alyssa said.
"Your body is going through a lot," Owen agreed, "don't worry about the littles let Grandma take care of them and celebrate with us."
"We will," Alyssa agreed, "I'm so happy for both of you that this finally happened."
"It has," Owen agreed.
Teddy joined them, "come on and celebrate with us."
"I am," Alyssa smiled, 'finally you're really my aunt."
"I've always been your aunt," Teddy smiled.
"But now it's legal," Alyssa teased.
"It is," Teddy agreed, "you'll stay for a bit."
"A bit," Alyssa agreed.
"You're tired," Teddy smiled at her now official niece.
"Yes," Alyssa admitted, "I'm happy to sit and chat and people watch, I'll keep grandma company."
"Travel, babysitting, twins," Teddy replied, "didn't sleep well last night."
"I slept as well as I do at my place," Alyssa replied.
"It's home," Teddy smiled, "come dance with us for a bit if you're up to it."
Alyssa stood up from the booth and Matt followed her to the dance floor. They joined Owen and Teddy with their friends on the dance floor.
"You okay," Meredith asked Megan.
"He's finally with Teddy," Megan replied, "they're settled and happy."
"Being a grandma," Meredith asked.
"I'm only 47 but she's 28," Megan replied, "she's excited."
"And you," Meredith asked.
"Yes it's been good for us she's been talking to me more the last few weeks since she told me," Megan replied.
"I wished my mom was around when I had Bailey and Ellis," Meredith said.
"I talked to mine but we were in Boston," Megan replied, "Owen was my biggest support."
"Derek then I was on my own with Ellis," Meredith said.
"She has me and Teddy," Megan replied, "I'm unsure of him but she's happy. She knows she can always come to me and Owen and Teddy will always let her come home."
"She's always been attached to them," Meredith said, "I remember Christina bringing her to the hospital and she was really really upset and she wouldn't talk to Christina or I so I paged Teddy because Owen was in the OR and the moment Teddy was there the dynamic changed. And seeing your kids go to an aunt for comfort is hard. I see it a lot with Zola and Maggie."
"Really," Megan asked.
"Some things that you and I just can't understand as Maggie puts it," Meredith replied, "and I love that Zola had Maggie, Bailey and Catherine to talk to about those things."
"Our job is to make them as strong and independent as possible," Megan said.
"She is," Meredith smiled.
"As much as she can be," Megan replied, "I think she doesn't fully trust her voice yet. That she needs practice and will find it when she's ready. She's had great examples but hasn't needed it yet."
"She will," Meredith said, "I didn't fully get it until I had Zola."
"I was 20," Megan said.
"But you had Alyssa," Meredith said.
"I did," Megan agreed, "I lost too much with her. She's been the hardest person to reconnect with in my whole family."
"I'm so sorry," Meredith said.
"No you brought my kids both back to me," Megan said, "gave me a chance with both."
Owen took Teddy's hand and lead her onto the dance floor, they swayed slowly to the music. Teddy grabbed Owen's suit collar with both hands and pulled him in for a passionate kiss.
"We're married," she whispered when he broke the kiss resting his forehead against hers.
"We're married," he echoed.
"I married Owen Hunt," Teddy giggled.
"You did," he smiled before kissing her again.
"Faroke, Leo, Allison let's go home," Alyssa said leading her brother and cousins out of the bar.
"Alyssa," Faroke asked.
"I'm not making you go to bed but let's let them celebrate," Alyssa said, "people are starting to go and he's got a hotel room for them for the night."
"Why," Faroke asked.
"So they can have some time just the two of them," Alyssa replied.
"Why," Faroke asked, "they live together."
"They have two little kids," Alyssa said, "Matt and I are staying for the long weekend at their house. You and mom are in town. They just got married it's nice to be a couple."
"What about you," Faroke asked.
"It's just Matt and I at home," Alyssa replied, "until our daughters are born. You and mom will come meet your nieces right away."
They got ready for bed and Alyssa sat on the couch with Faroke.
"What," Faroke asked.
"I want to talk to you," Alyssa smiled, passing her brother a mug of cocoa.
"About," Faroke asked.
"My girls actually," Alyssa replied, "I know it seems weird because were 14 years apart and have hardly spent time together."
"You're closer to Uncle Owen and Auntie Teddy than mom and I," Faroke said.
"I've spent more time with them," Alyssa said, "I was 12 when mom was captured. But by then I hadn't lived with her in three years. Middle school, high school, college I was with them and I would not have made it without Uncle Owen. He was the first person I met as a baby. I don't remember life without Uncle Owen. I want my kids to know you, to know that their uncle loves them and always has their back and that no matter how big they get or how far they go he will always be there. I never had a dad, I had Uncle Owen."
"Nathan," Faroke asked.
"He's your dad but he's not mine," Alyssa replied, 'he lived with mom and I for a couple years when I was 6 or 7," Alyssa replied, 'but so did Uncle Owen and Nathan was lower down on the chain of command. It was Mom, Uncle Owen then Nathan. And he was in and out of my life while mom was in Iraq. I saw him when I was 10 about a year before mom was captured. Mom was home for month and left a week before my 11th birthday then was captured three weeks after I turned 12. I Hadn't seen her for a year when she was captured, she was to come home three weeks after that and we were supposed to go on a big camping trip just the two of us, girl time she called it."
"Why haven't you gone," Faroke asked.
"Life changed, I grew up," Alyssa replied, "when you guys came home I was already 24."
"Dod you ever do a girls camping trip," Faroke asked.
"Auntie Teddy and I did a few," Alyssa replied, "I went with my aunts on my dad's side and my girl cousins. But never with mom. I was going to ask her then COVID hit and now I'm pregnant."
"After you have the babies," Faroke asked.
"Two baby girls," Alyssa asked, "I'm sure mom and I could but it'll be a few years yet or they come with us. One day I do want 24 hours with mom. But it'll be years, maybe when you go to college and my girls are bigger. You'll go away to school somewhere awesome."
"I want to make things," Faroke said, "like you do."
"Engineering," Alyssa smiled, "lots of paths there. I fell into medical as a way to honour mom. I've considered a switch to aeronautics which is my first love and what I wanted when I started college. It would be an easy switch. I'm good with small little parts but it's something I'll work out on Maternity leave. Why Engineering?"
"I want to design race cars and engines," Faroke said.
"Mechanical and automotive," Alyssa smiled.
"Where did you go," Faroke asked.
"I went to Prudue," Alyssa replied, "it wasn't Uncle Owen's first choice for me, he wanted me to go Ivy League like they did but I had an amazing opportunity to go and to play Volleyball. I played there with your coach."
"I like coach Mackenzie," Faroke said.
"So do I she was my roommate," Alyssa replied, "in the spring when my girls are old enough to travel Matt and I will bring them down for a visit and I want to see Mackie."
"Mackie," Faroke asked.
"College nickname," Alyssa smiled, "I liked my college years. But you don't have to follow me, just because mom and Uncle Owen did the same thing doesn't mean we have to. You have to do what you like and your interested in."
"Why do you keep rubbing your stomach," Faroke asked.
"The babies like to kick me," Alyssa replied, "you can meet them mom has, Uncle Owen and Auntie Teddy, Grandma."
"How," Faroke asked.
"You can put your hands where mine are and feel them kick through my skin," Alyssa replied, "they're your nieces. "
"Does it hurt," Faroke asked.
"Not yet," Alyssa replied, "mom and auntie Teddy say it will when they're bigger and stronger."
"When they're born can I hold them," Faroke asked.
"Yes," Alyssa promised, "and them I'm off for a year so I think I'll be around more. I get a year at home with my babies."
"Why," Faroke asked.
"In Canada the government gives you a year of maternity leave that's paid, so they pay half my salary and my company will top me up to 80% of what I make which is generous," Alyssa replied, "the thought is that it's best for the baby or babies to be home with their parent for the year so we can bond and they can get lots of one on one love and attention. I know my first year until my first birthday I went almost everywhere with mom, she took me to classes and to the school library, her friends watched me when she had labs and Uncle Owen babysat when she had to work. The first two years of my life I was with mom most of the time and if I wasn't with her I was with Uncle Owen. I want that for my kids to be with Matt and I."
"But we live in LA," Faroke said.
"And we're going to come visit more," Alyssa replied, "I'm going to make it work. I'm sorry it took a while for me to adjust to having you and mom home again."
"I wanted to meet my sister," Faroke said.
"I know," Alyssa replied, "I was shocked and it took me a while. I'm sorry Faroke."
""It's okay," Faroke said, "Mom's explained it."
"I'm still sorry I haven't been around more," Alyssa replied, "when I was little before mom was captured I wanted a little brother or sister. I always wanted a sibling. I used to ask mom for one like all my friends had. Then I didn't spend enough time with you when I did get one."
"It's okay," Faroke said, "you were my age when I was born."
"True," Alyssa replied, "but still. I should be around more and I'm really going to try to be. Can I have a hug?"
Faroke hugged his big sister.
After the wedding guests had left Owen and Teddy made their way to the hotel.
"Owen," Teddy asked.
"Just for us," Owen replied, "I have your bag. Meg and Lyss have the kids. Tonight we get to be just us Mrs Hunt."
"That's Dr Hunt to you," Teddy teased, "but you're the only one who can call me that."
"I know," Owen smiled.
"Are you okay that I'm not changing it," Teddy questioned.
"I would never ask you to change it," Owen replied, "I knew you would keep your name. Teddy, that doesn't matter to me. I love you, I want us and our family whatever you decide to do with your name."
"So tonight," Teddy asked, "we're married."
"We are," he smiled, "I have an idea."
"Do you," she asked.
"I do," he replied, "but it means we need to be in our room."
"I like how you think," she smiled, "dirty."
"Very dirty," he agreed, "it's just us. You can be as loud as you want."
"You're the loud one," she teased.
"Maybe we both are," he laughed.
They reached the hotel room and he let them in. Teddy kissed him passionately as he laid her down on the bed.
"My dress," she asked.
"Has to come off," he replied.
"I'll need your help," she said.
"I'll always help you with that," he smiled.
Soon they were both naked in bed.
