Everyone had been mad at him, Buck had screwed up everything and lost his friends, he had lost his job at 118. Buck had found no other job to take him because everyone hated him. Buck had then decided it would be best to stay inside and away from the public. Buck had bought enough beer that it would last him awhile. He was even more frustrated because his own sister was mad at him as well. He had got no calls or texts from his friends at all, he had felt betrayed. He had no sort of visitors at all, Diaz never brought Chris over to spend time with Buck at all, so Buck had just felt depressed. All Buck had done was sat on the couch and did nothing, he never slept and ate, he just sat on the couch and flipped through the channels.
Meanwhile at 118, everyone was doing their job as usual, Diaz was sitting near his locker and he opened his locker door and noticed a picture hanging on the door of Chris and Buck. Diaz took the picture down and looked at it, he had thought, "What have I done, I've taken Chris away from Buck and I betrayed Buck." Diaz still looked at the picture and then once they got a call, he put the picture in his locker and closed and went to the truck. The 118 then went to the call and they got done with the call and went back to the station. Diaz had then gone to his locker and grabbed the picture and closed his locker and then he walked outside and he then sat on a bench there near the station and he then stared at the picture and then he started softly crying, he had betrayed Buck and he had felt guilty about it. Diaz was not due off of shift for another 3 hours.
Buck still had not slept, he was still sitting on the same place on the couch, flipping through the channels. Diaz had then decided after the shift that he would take Chris to see Buck, that's if Buck was up for visitors. Diaz had then gone home and got in a new change of clothes and grabbed Chris and they went over to Buck's. Diaz had then pulled up to Bucks apartment and then he and Chris got out and then walked up to Bucks door and Diaz knocked on the door and Buck never answered. "Buck?" Diaz said through the door. Buck had still not answered because 30 minutes prior to Diaz arriving, Buck had collapsed due to dehydration and was unconscious. Luckily, Buck had given Diaz a key to his apartment so if Buck would not answer, Diaz could unlock the door. Diaz then walked in and noticed Buck, unconscious.
"BUCK." Diaz yelled. Diaz then dropped to his knees and pulled at his phone and dialed Chim's number. "Hello?" Chim said, picking up on the first ring. "Chim get 118's ambo over here at Buck's right now." Diaz said. "Why?" Chim questioned. "Because, he's collapsed and not responding." Diaz said. "Alright, we're on our way now." Chim said. Diaz then hung up the phone and then Chim ran to Bobby's office and knocked on his door. "Chim, what's up?" Bobby said. "We need to get to Buck's right now." Chim said. "Why?" Bobby asked. "Diaz is there now, he's collapsed." Chim said. "Alright let's go." Bobby said. Bobby then called dispatch and asked them to turn on the tone in their station. The tone then went off and then Chim announced, "Follow me." The crew then got in their trucks and took off towards the scene.
Chim then pulled up at the scene and then Hen said, "this is Buck's apartment." "That's why we are here." Chim said. Chris then walked over to Bobby and then led the way towards Diaz and Buck. Diaz then stood up and let Chim and Hen work on Buck. Chim then attached all the monitors to Buck and then Hen announced, "His breathing is shallow, he's dehydrated, heart rate is in the 60's." Chim then inserted an IV and then the monitors started blaring. "VIFB." Chim said. Chim then grabbed the paddles and gave them to Hen and then Chim put gel on them and Hen then rubbed them together and then Chim cut Buck's shirt open and then Hen placed the paddles in the right spot and then Chim said, "Clear." and Hen shocked Buck and then the monitors were back to normal. "His SATS are in the 80's, let's intubate." Hen said. Hen then handed Chim the tube and then Chim inserted the tube and then once he was in, he attached the bag and then let Diaz start pumping the bag. "Bring the stretcher in." Hen told Bobby. Bobby then ran out to the 118 ambo to get the stretcher and he then wheeled it inside.
Buck's heart rate was now fully normal. Chim, Hen, and Bobby lifted Buck onto the stretcher and Diaz followed because he was pumping the bag. Chim and Hen then wheeled Buck out into the ambo and Diaz stayed with them til they got to the hospital, and Chris stayed with Bobby. Chim did the normal procedure in the ambo and Diaz had stayed quiet and was trying to hold back the tears, Hem was driving. Hem then pulled up to Chastain and she hopped out of the ambo and then opened the doors and a doctor and 2 nurses were waiting for them. "Evan Buckley, 26, was found unconscious at home, intubated on scene, GCS is 3, shocked once." Hen said, informing the doctor and the nurses. "Alright, take him to Trauma 1." the doctor said. Buck then was whisked away into Trauma 1 and then Diaz just sat in his same spot in the ambo and then processed his feelings.
Chim and Hen then got the stretcher a new cover and more supplies and then placed the stretcher in the ambo. Chim then noticed Diaz still in his same spot. "Diaz, you okay?" Chim asked. "Chim, I messed up, I'm the reason Buck is in the hospital right now." Diaz said, tears streaming down his face. "You are not, Buck's just severely dehydrated." Chim said. "No, I was the one that messed up because I never took Chris over to see him." Diaz said. "We all messed up, we were all mad at him and never even called him, I felt that pain as well, and I tried to hide it." Chim said. "How are we going to tell Maddie?" Diaz questioned. "I don't know, the best thing is that we don't tell her." Chim said. "True." Diaz said. Diaz then got out and then walked into the hospital with Chim. Hen was already in the private waiting room. The rest of 118 then came later, Diaz had told Bobby before they left to take Chris to Carla. All of 118 had been there, but Buck never knew that. Despite the fact that the 118 was mad at him, they were there for him because they had messed up.
After about 2 hours, the doctor came out and then the 118 stood up and then greeted the doctor. "How is he?" Bobby said. "Well, Buck did have severe dehydration, so we are giving him fluids every hour or so, and on top of all that, the dehydration put him into a coma." the doctor said. "We also had to keep him on the vent because his SATS were still so low." the doctor added on. "Will he recover from this and maybe come back to work?" Diaz asked. "It's unknown at the time if he will recover, so we will see how he does throughout the coma." the doctor said. "Can we see him?" Chim questioned. "Yes, you can, just follow me." the doctor said. The 118 then stood up and then followed the doctor to the ICU and then to Buck's room.
Diaz was the 1st to walk into Buck's room, he did not expect to see what he saw. He saw Buck lying there with all sorts of machines around him, and IV with 2 bags of fluids, a blood pressure cuff, a pulse OX on his finger, a ventilator, and the heart monitor beeping. Diaz then let the rest of 118 walk in. They all then just stared at Buck's lifeless body, lying there. Hen was the 1st one to leave the room, and then Chim and Bobby, Diaz was the only one stuck in the room with Buck, he had decided to stay there anyway. He had then taken the couch that was against the wall and then he sat there and then flipped through his phone and then had decided to take a nap and then sleep for the rest of that day. A nurse had then brought in a blanket and covered Diaz with it and then had placed a pillow under Diaz's head because he was a deep sleeper. She then gave Buck 2 more bags of fluids, and then left the room. Diaz then slept peacefully the rest of that night and then got up that next morning and noticed a blanket on him and a pillow under his head.
Diaz then sat up on the couch and stretched then stood up and walked outside of the hospital to get fresh air. Diaz then sat on the nearest bench to the hospital and sat there. He had then collected his thoughts and walked back in the hospital an hour later. Diaz then walked into Buck's room, Buck was still on the vent, 2 bags of fluids every hour. Diaz had then decided that it was time to pull a chair up near Buck's bedside. Once the chair was pulled up, Diaz then sat in the chair and then just stared at Buck's lifeless body, rising and falling. Diaz then placed his forehead on the bed and then he just sat there and prayed, he didn't want to say anything, because he thought Buck could hear him.
Diaz then walked back over to the couch he was on and then laid down and fell asleep. Diaz was a deep sleeper, so he didn't hear the door opening and closing every hour. Buck was slowly coming back to normal, his heart rate was coming back to normal, and the doctor was slowly weaning Buck off the vent. None of the others from 118 had been by since they took Buck to the hospital, it was just Diaz in a quiet room, with the heart monitor beeping to keep him company. He had not still called Maddie and told her that Buck was in the hospital because he had figured that she was still mad. Diaz was ready to apologize to Buck, but he couldn't until he woke up.
Buck was still in the coma by week 2, Diaz had been in and out of the hospital because he had been going to Buck's place to clean it up a little and then taking a shower and getting a change of clothes and then coming back. It had only been Diaz in the room for those 2 weeks, he was getting lonely so he would decide to go home here and there to see Chris. He had gone back to the hospital after spending an hour with Chris at home. It had been 3 weeks since Buck was brought to the hospital. He was still in the coma, and still on the vent. Diaz was always back and forth, between shifts, and the hospital. No one from 118 had asked Diaz how Buck was doing.
It had been a whole month, Buck had then come off the vent and was breathing on his own, he was back to normal, his lab counts were normal, so the only thing Buck had to do was wake up. Diaz had stayed there on the couch because he wanted to stay as far away from Buck's view as possible. Later that afternoon, Buck then woke up. Diaz just stayed there quiet on the couch. Buck then looked on the side that Diaz was on and noticed Diaz sitting there on the couch. "What are you doing here?" Buck questioned, voice raspy. "Well, I found a picture of you and Chris attached to my locker door and I messed up big time, so I decided to bring Chris over to your place so you could spend time with him and that's when I found you passed out in the living room, so I called Chim and then they came and they brought you here." Diaz said. He then texted Chim and told him that Buck was awake, but he never got a response after.
"I had just felt lonely, I was eating very little here and there but never drank anything, I was just that depressed because I had thought that I lost everything, because you guys weren't calling me." Buck said, trying to hold back the tears. "I have been the only one here, no one else has been here to see you besides me, so I had to tough it up and stay here with you." Diaz said. "Well, I am glad you did." Buck said, extending his hand out to Diaz. Diaz then stepped over to Buck and shook his hand. Buck and Diaz were back to being friends again. Buck and Diaz then talked the rest of the night and then Diaz snuck out of the room that next morning to go back to his house and get Chris and surprise Buck. Diaz then walked through the door and then Chris then greeted him. "Dad." Chris said, walking over to Diaz. "Hey Buddy." Diaz said, hugging Chris. "Hey Buddy, would you like to visit uncle Buck in the hospital?" Diaz said, crouching down to Chris's view. "Yeah." Chris said. "Alright, let's go get dressed." Diaz said. Then Diaz and Chris walked into Chris's room and then got Chris a change of clothes and then went outside in the car and Diaz drove off towards the hospital.
Diaz then walked into Buck's room 1st to see if he was awake. Buck then looked at the door to see who was walking in and it was Diaz. "You up for anymore visitors?" Diaz asked. "Yeah, depends on who it is." Buck said. "Oh, you'll love this special visitor." Diaz said. Diaz then opened the door more and let Chris walk in. And then Buck sat up some more, "Chris, hey buddy." Buck said. "Hello Uncle Buck." Chris said. Chris then walked over with Diaz and he helped Chris get on the bed. Chris and Buck then talked for about 2 hours and then Carla came and got Chris because he was getting tired. Diaz then sat down there on the couch. "You know I was bringing Chris here because he kept wondering and wondering on how you were and he wanted to see you." Diaz said. "Well, I am glad you brought him here, because I was wondering if I would ever see him again." Buck said.
"You will, don't worry." Diaz said, patting Buck on the back softly. "I just wish the others could forgive me already, you already have." Buck said. "They only stayed here 45 minutes and then left because they couldn't stand being here in the room." Diaz said. Buck then fell asleep and Diaz pulled the blanket over Buck and then he went to bed himself. That next morning, it was Buck that woke up first. He then looked over at the couch and saw Diaz sleeping peacefully. Buck had been taken off the IV last night before he went to sleep because he was now drinking on his own. Buck then got up and walked over to the bathroom and then shut the door and took a shower. Diaz was still sleeping when Buck got out of the shower, but luckily Diaz had run over to Buck's place to get him a change of clothes. Buck then quietly sat down in a chair that was near Diaz. He had then slept for another couple hours and it was already noon by the time Diaz woke up. "Well, you slept for a total of 15 hours." Buck said. Diaz then sat up and noticed Buck sitting right beside him in a chair. "Since when did you move there?" Diaz questioned.
"As of 2 hours ago." Buck said. "What did you do in those 2 hours?" Diaz questioned again. "Well, I took a shower, got a new change of clothes on and such." Buck said. The doctor then walked in and then Buck transferred back over to the bed. "Well, Buck, you are expected to go home within this next day or so, your labs are normal, your kidneys are functioning better." the doctor said. "What about work though?" Buck asked. "You'll be off of work for a couple weeks, but I do not expect you to do no such light duty." the doctor said. The doctor then left the room and Buck then transferred back over to the chair. "Well, at least you'll be back to work." Diaz said. "True, but I don't know what the others will think about it happening." Buck said. "We'll just keep it a surprise, between me and you." Diaz said.
Buck then perked up at the idea of keeping him returning to work a surprise. Buck then was discharged that next day and then Diaz and Buck walked out of the hospital, it had felt wonderful for Buck to see the outside for the first time in a month. Diaz then got in the car and Buck followed and then they both went to Buck's place. Diaz then pulled the car up in front of Buck's apartment and him and Buck both then got out and went to the front door. Diaz then unlocked the door and then let Buck walk in, and Buck then did not expect to see what he saw; his whole house was clean. "Did you do this?" Buck questioned. "I did, with a little bit of Carla's help." Diaz said. "Man, you didn't have to do this." Buck said, pulling Diaz into a hug.
Buck then walked over to the couch and sat down while Diaz went into the kitchen and started to cook lasagna. Once the lasagna was done after about an hour, Diaz placed a portion of it on 2 plates. Diaz then grabbed the 2 plates and then walked over to the couch where Buck was. He then gave Buck his plate and then sat down to eat his own. Buck was the first one to finish his plate so he got up and then took his plate and washed it and placed it in the dishwasher. Diaz then followed the same thing 15 minutes later. Buck then went upstairs to his bed and then Diaz left that night and went back home and back to his own bed after sleeping on a hospital couch for a month.
It had been 2 weeks, Buck was cleared for shift and the others did not know it besides Diaz. Buck and Diaz had carpooled that day because Diaz wanted to surprise the 118. Diaz was the 1st to walk in, and the 118 greeted him, and then Diaz distracted them and then Buck walked in. None of the others greeted Buck at all, so they all walked off and it was just Diaz and Buck in the room. "I didn't expect that reaction." Buck said, voice breaking. "I didn't either." Diaz said. They both then walked into the locker room and put their bags in their lockers and then left the room and started working on the truck. Chim had walked by Diaz after a little while. "I see you and Buck are back to being friends." Chim said, sarcastically. "Well I am, if you were there when he was in the hospital for all of it, you would be back to being friends with him as well!" Diaz yelled. Chim then looked down at the floor, Diaz then continued and said, "He's already forgiven me and if the rest of you were there when he woke up, he would have forgiven you as well."
Chim then walked away and then Diaz continued working on the truck, Buck had been working on cleaning the tools and sharpening the axes. Buck and Diaz then met at Diaz's car after shift, they both got in and Diaz drove off. Chim had then been sitting there at his place thinking about what Diaz had said to him earlier today, "Maybe Diaz was right, I should have been there." Chim thought. Diaz and Buck were already back together as friends and Chim, Hen, and Bobby were not. Buck had been thinking about the others here and there but not that much because Diaz was distracting him from all of that. Diaz was happy that Buck was back to being his friend, but mad at the others for not forgiving Buck yet. Buck had driven his own car that next day and Diaz drove in his own as well. They both showed up at the station at the same time, so they walked in together.
No one had greeted them both when they walked in so they both went into the locker room and then did the normal stuff and then they both walked out and went in their separate directions. Chim had walked up to Buck while he was cleaning the bay and the truck. "Look Buck, I'm sorry I was not there by your side like Diaz was, I was just in shock and I couldn't stay in the room." Chim said. "You forgive me now?" Buck said, looking at Chim. "Yeah, I do." Chim said. Buck and Chim then embraced in a hug. Diaz then looked over from the overview of the bay and smiled at the fact that Buck and Chim were back to normal. Hen and Bobby took some time to get used to having Buck back, but they eventually forgave him and the 118 then was back to normal. Diaz was happy at that fact that everyone forgave Buck and they started talking to him.
