Chapter 16B
Brendan collapsed onto the pokemon center bench, exhausted from the battle. Why wouldn't he be? Both Radot and Treekip had fainted, and the win was from the combined hits of him and May. Deciding to chat, Brendan pulled up his sweater, then took out the phone.
Sensing that Brendan wanted to tell her something, May asked "What is it?"
Nodding slightly, Brendan typed in "It's just that we came way too close to losing that time."
"Yeah, that was way too close. If battles are that close to the Ace Trainers, we have to train."
May nodded, then tried to stand up to get the pokemon back. Brendan steadied himself, then headed over to the front desk to retrieve the pokemon.
Brendan got the pokeballs back, then ran into Route 102 to train. As May released the Radots, Brendan clicked the release button for the Treekips.
Brendan felt May kneeling, and joined her. He looked his pokemon in their eyes, and let May speak.
"That was a close one, but you two pulled it off. Nice work!" Brendan was ready for training, and just hoped that May would bring it up.
As if on cue, May decided to speak about it. "We're going to need to train hard if we want to complete the gym. We're gonna train real hard, and soon we can win! Let's do this!" May then said "Radot, you'll do whatever you want. Treekip, you'll be with me. Let's do this."
Brendan stood in his place, ready to begin training.
First, Brendan decided on holding four fingers out. Rock Smash. Brendan reflected on the journey thus far as he did so, and realized something crucial. He knew how games limited the move count to four, and knew it was silly. Most pokemon could remember every move they learn, although some became obsolete. However, due to the fact that he could only hold up five fingers at a time, Brendan would have to limit all movesets to 5.
As (B)Treekip rushed out, Brendan realized how foolish the attack was. Ralts was a Psychic + Fairy type, so the attack would do almost nothing. In response, (B)Radot unleashed a confusion, and blasted (B)Treekip.
Brendan quickly checked in his head, and knew Water Gun would be the most powerful move. So, the three fingers were held out.
The water gun went through first, but then multiple (B)Radots appeared. It had used Double Team. Going for variety, Brendan lowered two fingers, signaling Tackle.
(B)Treekip sprinted forward, and slammed into (B)Radot. However, instead of knocking down (B)Radot, (B)Treekip went straight through. That meant the Double Team worked.
