Chapter 17M
May sprinted through the doors, twisting and turning until she would up ready to take on James. She would have to bring all she got to the fight, she knew that the Treekips and Radots were pretty weak. Before getting ready to walk through, May decided to check on Brendan. Brendan was confident, and ready to win. Taking a deep breath, May stepped forwards as Brendan opened the door.
A guy with jet black hair waited in the middle, hands firmly on a pokeball. He smiled, and said "Hello. I'm James."
"You've done pretty well, getting through three people to get to me. It seems like you only have two pokemon and no badges, so it'll be a fair fight. To be honest, your fighting style confuses me. You never say a single word during battle, and your pokemon have to look back to know what to do. Why? I know you aren't the silent type, because after battles, you tend to talk normally."
May didn't answer. She knew she could've, since Brendan was asked the same thing. But, she didn't want to reveal the truth. Not like this.
"... you don't need to answer. If you were willing to stay silent during your battles, you're probably dedicated enough to not reveal why. Let's just begin." With that, James released a Vigoroth.
Battle start.
May summoned the Radots to begin the fight off. May knew that the Absorb move would be pretty good, and Double Team could avoid the heavy strikes that James' pokemon. There was no damage yet however, so Harden was the chosen move. Two fingers out, and Harden was done. A Focus Energy was the response.
May kept out two fingers, signalling to keep using Harden. A Reversal, then another Focus Energy. On the third turn, James got tired of waiting and used Slash. The strike actually missed however, landing right next to (M)Radot. James was very confused. Slash wasn't likely to miss, and all the Seedot had done was use Harden. How did it dodge?
(M)Radot glanced back and saw the three fingers of Absorb, saying it was time to go on the attack. The drain landed perfectly, and the launch it gave off signalled that Brendan had synced up one of his damaging moves. Next, sensing that the health was full, May lowered one finger to show to use Harden. A Scratch struck, but (M)Radot was strangely wounded more than May thought he would. Worried on what was happening, May checked what Brendan was facing. Of course, thought May. It used Uproar. Now, May would have rely on the Double Team to cause misses, while (M)Radot used Absorb.
James was thoroughly confused now. His opponents sometimes had quirks to them, but never had one been so inconsistent. They flinched when nothing attacked, dodged almost every strike, and physical strikes did almost nothing. Biding up for a good strike, Focus Energy was chosen.
The two Absorbs hit properly, but then (M)Radot recoiled from something randomly. May guessed that the Uproar had finally struck, and those Focus Energies made it pretty powerful. Slash was used by James' Vigoroth, and it took down (M)Radot. As expected, the Uproar had weakened the Radot's health
"Huh, so that confident onslaught of Absorbs was a facade. Really thought it'd barely do anything, that slash. Alright, show me your next pokemon."
Author's note: The battle is going to be a multipart RIP
