NOTE TO roban05: How true!
?-?
"I'm not finding anything." Bobby announced a little while later. Each person was assigned to a shop, doing deep background checks, however no one was finding anything pertinent to solving the case.
"Keep searching." Jack said as he picked up his ringing phone. "HELLO!" He signed when he answered the FaceTime call.
"PERPS SAY WHAT? KNOW NOW!" She excitedly signed.
"OK. WHAT?" He anticipatedly asked.
"TOMORROW NIGHT ANOTHER JEWELRY STORE THEM-4 STEAL!"
"What?!" Jack exclaimed loudly in shock.
Sue nodded. "TOMORROW MORNING GO-TO STORE MUST!"
He nodded. "YOU COME TOO."
"OK." She replied, caught up in the excitement. "YOU COME HOME NOW YOU?"
He nodded. "NEED FINISH FIRST, BUT YES. THANK YOU."
She smiled. "WELCOME." With that, the couple hung up.
"What was that?" Bobby asked.
"Sue just found out these thieves are going to hit again, tomorrow night."
"What?" Everyone exclaimed, shocked.
Jack nodded. "So let's go home, get a good night's rest, cause we're not going to get one tomorrow." He announced, quickly getting his things together. Everyone did the same, a bit scared to know what tomorrow would bring.
?-?
"So this is Marguerite's Jewelry Boutique." Bobby said early the next morning, looking at the small, standalone building in the strip mall as they stood outside of the car. Sue, Myles and Mya stayed inside the car, waiting for the shop to officially open.
Jack nodded. "And it's getting robbed in a few hours."
Bobby whistled. "I wouldn't blame them. They're the most expensive jewelry store around."
"I should know." His friend chuckled.
He smiled at him. "You tried them for Sue's engagement ring?"
Jack nodded. "Let's just say that I would need to work two full time jobs for the next 40 years if I bought her ring from here."
Chuckling, he nodded as he watched an employee unlock the front door. Tapping on the car window, he let everyone know that it was time.
"So, what's your plan?" Mya asked, getting out of the car, Myles and Sue soon following.
"How about we talk to the owner or manager, asking about their security and such, but we keep our reasons to ourselves, at least right now. We'll see how the conversation goes." Jack suggested.
Mya nodded. "I get it. Now, what are we waiting for?"
With that, the group nodded and walked towards the store.
"Hi, how can I help you?" A smiling woman asked when they walked into the store.
"FBI." Jack quietly said, showing her his badge. "We need to speak to the owner or manager. Are either here right now?"
Worriedly looking at the badge, the woman nodded. "I'll go get my manager." She said, walking backwards towards the back, keeping an eye on the visitors until she had to turn. A few seconds later, an older woman came out, the original woman trailing her.
"Hi, I'm Elizabeth Markham, the manager. How can I help you?" She asked with a smile.
"Is there somewhere private we may talk?" Myles asked.
She nodded. "Come to my office." She said, waving them to follow her to the back of the store. "Is there something I can do for you all?" She asked once they all were situated in the small room, all but two standing because there was only two seats, other than Elizabeth's.
"Yes," Jack, who was sitting, started. "We wanted to ask you about your security system."
"Excuse me?" She asked, not sure why the agents were asking about it.
"Uh, we've been made aware of an incident, and we want to make sure all the area shops are equipped with counteractive materials." Mya interjected.
"Oh my!" Elizabeth exclaimed. "What was the incident?"
"I'm sorry, but we're not at liberty to say." Bobby replied.
Pursing her lips, Elizabeth nodded. "I see." Waving her hand around, she continued. "Well, our security system is top-notch, alarms on both the front and back doors and cameras inside the store."
"What about those alarms if the glass is broken?" Mya asked.
She shook her head. "Unfortunately, no. The owners think that what security precautions we have taken are enough. Any more, we will be paying more in security than in rent."
"I get it." Jack replied. "We just want to make sure you're prepared."
"Thank you." She relied.
"Do you mind if we monitor your store from a distance for a while?" Bobby asked. "We just want to make sure that the threat is not carried through."
"That would be appreciated. This evening, we are accepting a new, rare diamond that is going to be set in an engagement ring for a dignitary. If anything happens to it, my bosses will not be happy with me." Elizabeth replied.
Her eyes wide with an idea, Sue grabbed her husband's shoulder. "IF-IF ME STAY OVERNIGHT, WATCH?"
"GOOD IDEA, BUT YOU ALONE? NO." He replied.
"What, what's going on?" Elizabeth asked, watching the signed exchange.
"Sue was just suggesting that she and I should stay here overnight and watch the store from the inside while my colleagues watch the store from the outside. We want to make sure that diamond stays safe." Jack explained.
"You would do that?" She asked, shocked.
"We want to make sure a threat is not carried through, and if it is, that we catch them." Bobby replied.
"Well, of course! Do what you need to do. We would appreciate the extra security."
Sue smiled at the woman. "Thank you."
