Even after 13 years Rayna still hasn't been able to separate this particular ritual from Deacon in her mind. Using sitting in the cheap seats before a show just created a mild feeling of nostalgia. However today was a special case. Not only has Deacon been the only thing she has been able to think about since he stepped foot on that plane, but he also happens to currently be standing on the stage doing his soundcheck. She knew a couple of the songs, lyrics she had long since memorised off the only solo album he ever put out, but most of the songs were foreign to her.

If you could just give me a sign, just a subtle little glimmer

Some suggestion that you'd have me if I could only make me better

Then I would stand a little stronger as I walk a little taller, all the time

Because I know you are a cynic but I think I can convince you

Yeah, 'cause broken people can get better if they really want to

Or at least that's what I have to tell myself if I am hoping to survive!

It's a long road up to recovery from here

A long way back to the light

A long road up to recovery from here

A long way to making it right

The songs were filled with heartache, and sometimes just raw pain. Things that have long been entrenched in her mind in connection with Deacon Claybourne. They were good, really good. Not that she was surprised, he was and still is the most talented person she's ever met.

Anybody after 13 years away from the stage, away from touring would be rusty, but Deacon seems to have seamlessly transitioned back into life on the road. At least form what she's seen. They've both been keeping their distance. Rayna, party because she just doesn't know what to say, and partly because she knows the danger of getting too close. Being with Deacon has always been like playing with fire, and she knows how quicky that fire could burn down her marriage. So, she's keeping her distance. She ignores the little voice that questions whether that would be a bad thing.

Finally, Deacon's soundcheck is over. Maybe now she can get a respite from thinking about him. She knows that's a pipedream. She also knows Juliette's soundcheck is next, so she makes a quick exit. One more repeat of Boys and Buses might actually drive her insane, if Deacon hasn't already succeeded in that endeavour.
