12th May 2014: Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes
She was scared because ultimately she didn't know what to expect. She had heard things from Michelle and she was excited but very nervous at the same time, her friend assured her that it would be a magical experience but she wasn't sure herself. She wanted it to be something that she would remember for the rest of her life, seeing her unborn child for the first time, she wanted to be reassured that she was doing the right things throughout her pregnancy, eating all the right foods and making sure that her baby was growing right on track.
Peter had been struggling recently but she hoped, well more like she prayed, that this would change his outlook on life and make him feel more positive about everything in general. Deep down she was excited though, she made sure to start the day off right, cooking breakfast for them both, well the three of them because essentially, even with Simon at Leanne's, there were three of them. He could tell she was nervous, he was too, he didn't want to make the same mistakes but he was under so much pressure which was partly from his own doing. He craved a large glass of whiskey but seeing the look on his wife's face about their baby, it really did hit home.
"What are you hoping for?" she whispers digging into her breakfast
"I don't know, I didn't think we could find out this early"
"Yeah I know that but what are you hoping for" she grins slightly causing him to sigh gently "Peter, this baby's going to save us"
"Yeah you keep saying"
"What's gotten you in this mood then?" she groans slamming her cutlery down on the plate "I'm trying to create a positive atmosphere thinking that it's what you need but you keep pushing away so you can go on your self-pity trip"
"I'm sorry I just didn't get much sleep last night, I'll be fine when we get to the hospital" he smiles gently causing her to nod with a smile on her face as well
"I'm going to pop into work? Are you coming?" she asks and he nods "Good go and grab a shower I will ring Sal to let them all in so we don't have to do that"
"Sounds good to me" he nods walking into the bathroom leaving her to sigh, along with the worry of the day ahead and the sorry of Peter's mood all she knew was that today was going to be a day of hoping and praying that everything went smoothly
"So come on then, boy or girl?" she links arms with him as they walk to work, he's in a world of his own as usual "I will get an answer from you, I'll beat it out of you"
"Now that's an interesting thought" he grins slightly causing her to smirk and shake her head coyly "A girl would be nice, a mini-you and I haven't got a girl, Si will probably want a boy though, someone to play football with"
"Well, that's just logical isn't it?"
"I don't follow"
"Well girls want girls and boys want boys" she muses causing Peter to smirk and kiss her on the lips gently "I don't care as long as it's healthy"
"Me neither, the future's looking pretty bright don't you think?"
"Yeah...it is" she pushes the door open and they walk into the office greeted by Michelle "If you keep hanging around here people might start to think that you're working here again"
"I just came to say good luck for today" she rolls her eyes "Won't bother at your twenty week one if this is the reception I'm going to get"
"It's pregnancy hormones" Peter grins as Michelle giggles "Trust me she was slamming cutlery down at home surprised I didn't get a knife to my chest"
"Oh that's a thought for the next time you annoy me" she pins him a look he bites his lip "Anyway thanks for dropping by 'Chelle but we're ok"
"Well I hope it goes well and I'm third to know" she nods grinning causing Carla to roll her eyes "I'll leave you to it"
"Alright, bye love" she smiles watching her friend leave her office "Let's get on and do some stuff before we have to go, distractions and all that"
"Seems good to me"
They did work and the sooner the time came to when they had to leave. Carla vigorously planned out when they needed to leave to ensure that they made the appointment on time. Peter was worried in case she was stressing herself out too much but she assured him that she just needed to do this for her, that way she had more control over the situation, he was forced to agree not wanting to anger her in this situation.
The both of them sitting in the hospital waiting room, she was trying to distract herself with a magazine which the hospital provided and Peter could tell her attempts into the world of distraction were proving fruitless as she wasn't paying attention to the magazine at all. He decided to pry the magazine out of her hand in annoyance at the constant sound of flicking pages back and forth, he took her hand and squeezed it giving her the comfort she desperately needed and soon enough they were called in. She did the obvious and sat on the examination bench and rolled her top up, he took her hand and made sure she was comforted in this environment she didn't want to be in, they both prayed everything would be ok.
"Is everything ok?" she asks timidly, she looked so small and scared but having him there was reassuring her a lot more
"Everything looks fine" the sonographer turns the screen around to reveal a podgy little body and stick-like arms and legs and finally the head
"Woah" Peter gasps glancing down to Carla who was wiping her eyes "That's amazing, we created a human..."
"We really did" she muses slightly turning to face him, he couldn't resist pecking her on the lips right there and then "That's our baby"
"You look around twelve weeks, everything looks good, there is the head and the body here, the little arms and legs, I'll take a picture"
"A piece of me and you" she whispers glancing to him and he smiles "I cant wait to be a Mum"
"Now that is something I never thought I would hear" he chuckles gently, she squeezes his hand "That's our baby, a piece of me and you"
"With ten little fingers and ten little toes," she muses "Its the simple things which get me"
"Me too, love, me too"
