Sneaking in the cover of the night we were coming closer to the largest Britannian magazine outside the Tokyo Settlement. I drove my custom knightmare, a pre-production model of the burai-kai. With ten more normal burais at the ready we were sure to win this little skirmish. The question was how many casualties we would suffer. With most soldiers being called back to guard the Tokyo Settlement I hoped that we would avoid loosing any men at all.
"Commander, we are almost there." Ah, right, Nagisa. She outright refused to leave my side when I started assigning my holy swords to other groups.
The effect was that we had five knightmare squads out of base to attack the enemy storing facilities and Kusakabe with the rest holding the Fort at narita.
"Copy that, is the EMP ready?" I asked while doing the last checkups on my Knightmare.
"Yes ,sir." one of the other pilots replied.
"All right, men, check you're weapons. We go in quickly, kill every hostile in sight and take the equipment." After I was done giving orders I turned on a private channel to Chiba. "Are you ready?"
"Yes, but, I still am unhappy with your presence here, commander." And there she goes again. Ugh...for fucks sake, this woman is relentless.
"Your opinion is noted and ignored, colonel." I swear, if this woman continues like that we will get nowhere... Although... This does bring an old memmory to mind. "You know, a great man once said, 'if the king doesn't lead, how can he expect his subordinates to follow?' ." What greated me was silence.
"... As loathe as I am to admit it... Those are wise words." In that moment one of my pilots contacted me. "Commander, we checked our weapons, the EMP and the cargo trucks are prepared. We are ready to start the operation."
With a last sigh I checked my personal equipment. Emergency rations, water and medical kit check. Personal radio, check. My personal pistol, check. This thing, a standard Luger pistol. I had wrapped the grip with a band-aid. I was given this side arm by my father as congratulations for ending the officer academy. You may call me a sentimental fool, but I am not changing the last thing I can remember my father by. Well, check. The last thing to check was my katana. A beautiful thing really. I was given this by Tohdoh before the war. I am quite sure he thought me well. Well, check.
"Very well, men, commence the operation." A hail of 'yes, sir.'s met my order.
I took the spearhead of the formation. With my chain sword I cut open the doors to the magazine. Inside soldiers in Britannian uniform were guarding what seemed like a new shipment being delivered by some workers in orange jumpsuits. Bingo! Even more things to steal.
Before they could react I had my anti-personnel turret exterminate the soldiers. I took care not to shoot the crates. If they were containing sakuradite it would be a collective suicide. So yes, let us not do that, shall we? For now there was no need to activate the EMP. The jammers were doing a good enough job at the moment.
Behind me my soldiers flooded in, spreading out to cover the whole warehouse. I had Chiba, who stayed with me, open the crates while I had the workers at gun point. Hmm, spare parts, guns, granades and some rocket launches. Overall not a bad catch. But not the best either. I just hoped the rest had better luck.
With the gunfire dying down I prepered to call the trucks in. Before I could do so I was contacted by one of my pilots. "Commander, you might want to see this." With a raised eyebrow I had my knightmare drive to the callers location. Well, I had killed the workers before that, of course. Chiba, naturally , followed me.
Arriving at the location I didn't need any explenation. The cause was quite simple. Five new looking Gloucesters were staring me right in the face. At the side I saw equipment for them. Assault rifles, Jousting Lances, Sattel Waffen Missile Launchers, Capes and chaos granades. Seems like Clovis was just about to get serious. To bad he got killed, what a pity.
Moments later the gathering team rolled in. Infantryman poured out of docked trucks, ready to carry loot. Some knightmares designed to carry heavy equipment also joined in. All in all we were in and out in an hour. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
After a long while of making sure we weren't followed we returned to Narita. The place we unloaded was a huge KMF hangar. There were two floors one normal and one on a hight to Dock knightmares at. All over the place one could see mechanics and engineers running about.
In the hangar there were numerous knightmares. Mostly burai but you culd find a couple of Glasgows and even an odd Sutherland. All painted green and black, of course.
From the hangar there were coming out a few corridors. Some were leading inside the base and some leading up words. The former were used to get around the underground fortress in a knightmare. The latter were connected to huge cargo lifts and were serving as an entrance and an exit. We had a couple more of these scattered around the base.
The moment I exited the knightmare bay I was greated by Tohdoh. "Well, did anything important happen while we were gone?" I inquired lightly. It seems like he was the first to return.
"Actually, I belive so." Huh, interesting. Turning to the nearest holy blade I threw an order over my shoulder. "Urabe, have the complete list of the loot we had stolen tonight ready for me within an hour." Then I followed my second in command not checking the reaction of my blade.
Huh...Tohdoh was actually right. Not that I would doubt my general, but... Zero, huh.
He certainly had charisma... And he had a flare for the dramatic. He was a talented actor. But, he was quite pragmatic, it seemed. Tossing Clovis' severed head on the streat like that. And shooting Soresi after he had forced the man to help in his escape. Oh, and who could forget about that 'poison gass'.
He is ruthless, I certainly approve. But, he had rescued Suzaku. The fucking traitor. I, of course, knew of him being a member of the army. But... Enough about my traitor of a brother.
Now it remains to be seen if Zero would be an ally or an enemy.
