Chapter Seven: Successor
~A/N~ So here we go Chapter Seven. I hope you enjoy it.
Chapter Start!
There were so many things Toshinori Yagi had taken for granted before his fight with One For All. Like simple pleasures. Eating whole foods, drinking the occasional beer, breathing unhindered, hell even being able to take his shirt off without worry of scaring anyone. But for him, the first thing was his most missed. Being able to eat.
"I'm sorry to ask... but do you have money for all this?" a young white and red-haired woman asked looking at Toshinori and his frankly worrisome amount of empty plates.
"Oh yes," Toshinori smiled. "Worry not I have full intention to pay for all the food I've ordered and consumed,"
"Fuyumi! Order up!" a voice shouted.
"Oh that should be your steak," Fuyumi said turning away. Toshinori smiled brightly before taking the last bite of his lasagna. He really missed eating.
"Yagi-san," a calm voice spoke.
"Hm... oh hello Mirai," Toshinori smiled seeing his former sidekick. Even the sour note of their split couldn't bring down Toshinori's mood.
"May I join you?" Mirai asked.
"Of course," Toshinori replied finishing his plate of food.
"Hungry?" Mirai asked taking the open booth.
"I've not had proper meals in years... and I work it off easily. So I intend to enjoy myself," Toshinori replied as he placed the empty plate on top of several others.
"Your steak," Fuyumi said placing a large plate with steak, potatoes, green beans, and broccoli down. "Can I get you anything?"
"Just a cup of black coffee will be fine," Mirai smiles.
"Coming up," Fuyumi smiles back.
"I know this might not be something you want to talk about. But a successor," Mirai starts.
"I've found one," Toshinori replies.
"You have?" Mirai smiles. "Who?" he adds.
"Her name is Ashido Mina. She has an Acid quirk and the true heart of a hero," Toshinori says proudly.
"You've started training her?" Mirai asks.
"She's on my 'Aim to pass' plan that's perfectly tailored to her body," Toshinori replied.
"Anything else?" Mirai asks.
"Of course, I've been studying for months to become a proper teacher. My 'Aim to Pass' plan has everything figured out for her. She also has my private number if she has questions or feels something needs to be adjusted. Which she used on the first day to say she needed additional study lessons," Toshinori explained.
"And what did you do for that?" Mirai asks.
"I called Nezu of course. He sent me plenty of lessons to help her," Toshinori answers.
"I see," Mirai says as he gets his cup of coffee. "Did she not want to join the FHP?"
"She didn't want to leave her friends behind. So she politely refused," Toshinori answered. "I know you had hoped for your student to be chosen but I need you to understand that picking a successor is something only I could do," Toshinori adds knowing the look on Mirai's face.
"What does that mean," Mirai asks.
"The day I saw Young Ashido something happened," Toshinori started.
"Your fight with the giant?" Mirai asks.
"No something different," Toshinori replied closing his eyes for a moment. "I saw Nana,"
"Your mentor?" Mirai asks confused.
"Yes. It was only for the briefest moment. But as I watched Young Ashido run towards what could've been her death I saw Nana. Or at least a vision of her. She was running beside Young Ashido. And just before she vanished she looked at me. She had a smile plastered a crossed her face. A smile I had only ever seen once. The smile she gave me when she told me I was her choice," Toshinori explained. "It was as if All For One itself was telling me she's perfect,"
"I understand," Mirai said rubbing his chin. "Would it be possible for me to meet her?"
"Of course she'll be here soon. She wanted to speak to me about something," Toshinori replied.
"Yagi-sensei," a cheerful voice called out.
"Speak of the devil," Toshinori laughed as a Mina walked up.
"Am I interrupting?" Mina asked.
"Not at all," Mirai smiles.
"This is my former Side-kick Sir Nighteye," Toshinori said sliding over so Mina could sit down.
"Is it ok?" Mina asked looking at Toshinori.
"Yes," Toshinori replied.
"Ok... So I have a problem," Mina starts. "I don't know if I can keep everything a secret from my parents anymore. Mom's starting to ask questions and I don't know what to say,"
"You know for all my planning I swear sometimes I'm an idiot," Toshinori says with a facepalm.
"What do you mean?" Mina asks.
"I completely forgot about your parents," Toshinori says running his hand down his face. "They know about the day you ran in right?"
"Yeah they grounded me for a month," Mina replied.
"Ok well, tonight sit down with them and tell them that on that day you caught the eye of a hero trainer, myself and that I offered to give you hero training when I learned you wanted to be a hero. If they wish to meet with me tell them whenever is best for them I'll be there," Toshinori explained.
"That simple?" Mina asks.
"That simple," Toshinori replied.
"Awesome. Thanks, Yagi-sensei," Mina smiled brightly as she jumped up and left without warning.
"Ball of energy that one," Mirai says.
"She does remind me of Nana when we first met," Toshinori says back. "Now then I believe I've been ignoring my steak,"
"I'll let you eat," Mirai says taking his leave his coffee untouched.
~U.A.~
Nezu sat behind his desk passing the time with his favorite activity. Over analyzing. He would think up a scenario and think through every possible outcome. The best-case scenario, worst case, most logical, most farfetched, the list went on and on. Except for today. No today was not a good scenario. No today's scenario was the monster attack from a week prior. And every outcome he could think of even the best-case outcome screamed that All For One was alive and Nezu had all but put Izuku on display for him.
"I've made a truly horrible mistake," Nezu said softly as he picked up his long-gone cold cup of tea. There were very few options now. Even putting a hero escort on Izuku wouldn't work. Short of All Might no hero could stop All For One from just taking Izuku. Nezu hated that his options were so few. Nezu took a long breath before grabbing his phone and making a call. Every path worth any salt required Izuku to be brought into the fold.
"Nezu? What can I do for you?" Toshinori's voice came over the phone.
"Do you have any plans for tomorrow afternoon?" Nezu questioned.
"Not at the moment. I do have dinner plans to meet my successor's family and explain things to them," Toshinori replied.
"Wonderful. If you could I would like you to come to U.A. after school. We need to have a discussion," Nezu said.
"I'll be there," Toshinori said.
~Unknown Location~
"I'm glad you could make it so quickly," Doctor Ujiko said looking at a young green-haired woman.
"I live to serve Sensei," Tokage Setsuna replied with a toothy smile. "He saved me from being Quirkless after all," She added.
"It's good you remember your place. Now your mission," Doctor Ujiko handed the girl a folder. She quickly accepted and began reading. Her eyes went wide as she read further down.
"You want me to go to U.A.?" Setsuna asked in shock. "I don't know if I could be around that many heroes,"
"My dear Setsuna," Both girl and doctor froze.
"Sensei," the girl said looking towards the now active monitor.
"I know I'm asking a lot of you but If you can handle this I'll finally be back to full strength," All For One explained. Setsuna quickly pulled the folder back up to finish reading.
"Oh... That healing quirk," Setsuna said understanding her mission now.
"You understand your mission then?" Doctor Ujiko asked.
"Get into U.A., Find the healer, Seduce them, Get them away from U.A., and lead them to you," Setsuna said a cold look overtaking her eyes. "I will do it and I won't fail,"
"I know you won't. You're my successor after all," Setsuna smiled feeling the faith All For One had in her.
~End Notes~ I hope you enjoyed the chapter and the little twists I threw in.
