gwb620: Thank you!

Chapter Three

Peter landed right outside the store just in time for his enhanced hearing to pick up the sound of a safety catch being removed as the group of robbers aimed their weapons at the scared patrons. It had been a crazy day, having met a hedgehog superhero from another planet, but he'd finally continued his Saturday morning patrol, and the day had continued on normally.

Well, except for the aformentioned blue hedgehog superhero tagging along, but still, a relatively normal Saturday nontheless.

"So, what's the plan?" Sonic whispered from a few feet across him. Spider-Man considered it for a moment before replying:

"I'll deal with the shooters and you keep the civilians safe."

"Sounds good to me." said Sonic. A smirk appeared on the hedgehog's face, but the determination in his gaze was unmistakeable.

Momentarily pushing away the excitement of seeing the hedgehog in action, the teen focused on the happenings in the room and peeked in through a window. The backs of the gunmen were turned to them and the human nodded to the hedgehog, who returned the gesture.

Inside the shop, a robber, evidently the leader of the group of store-shooters, had just barked an order to the cashier, who fearfully ducked to open their register when a silky web-line latched on to the thug's gun and snatched it away from him, sending the weapon away in the direction of the open door.

The next thing anyone knew, Spider-Man had front-flipped into the room and executed what in his mind was an epic superhero landing on the floor as the prospective criminals and the would-be victims turned to face him, a look of dread on the faces on the former and relief on those of the latter.

"Hey, guys!" quipped the superhero in a chipper tone as he got up from his crouching positiong and stood erect to face the men head on.

"It's Spider-Man!" exclaimed one of the criminals in shock.

"Don't just stand there!" shouted the leading thug, cutting off what Peter was going to say next. "Get him!"

This seemed to snap the burglars out of their trance as they focused on the teen and began to fire their weapons.

Obeying his spider-senses, Spidey gracefully flipped out of the way of the bullets and shot a web at the nearest man's gun, pulling it out of his grip before expertly projectile-firing more of his web fluid into the eyes of a pair of thugs closest to him.

As the two blinded robbers staggered back and the others charged at him, the webhead didn't even look behind him, his odd sixth-sense thing doing most of the work for him as he ducked to avoid a swing taken at him and retaliated with a sweep kick which worked as intended, the robber hitting the ground with a thud.

The teen hopped up and caught a punch from another thug, retaliating with a headbutt that sent the shop-shooter to the wall on his back. That man's hands were promptly webbed to the wall afterwards, allowing Parker to focus on the other two robbers who were grabbing at their eyes.

Not wasting time, Spider-Man fired lines of web-fluid at the legs of the men and pulled, sending them off their feet as well. All in a day's work.

"Don't move, freak!" snarled the voice of the leader. The crimefighter slowly turned to see Leader Thug with his pistol pointed towards one of the cowering civilians in the store.

"I said don't move!" barked Leader Thug. "Or someone gets hurt."

The younger human stood up slowly and raised his hands in seeming surrender. Now, in his tenure as a spandex-wearing crime-fighter, he was well aware of the importance of timing, and knew that in situations like these, timing was everything.

He'd become even more cognizant of that during the whole airport battle in Leipzig, and he soon became very happy that his tag-along also knew of this, as the hedgehog tag along in question burst into the room -appearing as little more than a blue blur- and slammed into the legs of Leader Thug, sending the man flipping through the air and crashing face first into the ground.

The blur turned direction and slowed down momentarily, hopping up, curling into a ball and smacking into the side of the other thug who Peter hadn't immobilized, sending that formerly recovering thug into a wall with a crash as the kid shot a web to wrench away the firearm that Leader Thug had dropped.

Sonic landed on the ground and zipped to Peter's side, the duo turning to look at the civilians, who began observing at the new arrival in varying states of amazement and confusion, with a few even having their phones out.

The hedgehog didn't seem bothered by this, however, just lightly elbowing the kid and widening his smirk in a manner that reminded Pete oddly of Mr. Stark. In a way, Sonic was quite similar to the man in terms of personality and the high levels of sass they both radiated. He'd definitely learned that back in the tower.

Quickly snapping out of his thoughts, Peter called out "Are you all okay?", to which the citizens responded with varying affirmatives.

The duo of heroes nodded at each other. All in a day's work, indeed.

"So.. about.. my question..?" asked Peter between breaths, having gotten into his rythm of swinging through the city on webs as the hedgehog ran beside him on the neighbouring rooftops.

After the webbing up the last of the gunmen and leaving them outside the store, they had continued their patrol, stopping a mugging or two and helping to get a cat from a tree. One of the first things he had realized was that Sonic not only had some serious speed on his side and definitely knew how to use it, he had some insanely good reflexes to boot.

Quickly backflipping before firing another web, Peter turned to the hedgehog just in time to see him freeze up noticeably, to the human's amusement.

"It's complicated, okay?" retorted Sonic, definitely not appreciating the smirk that could be heard in Peter's voice. The teen didn't reply, and the hedgehog deadpanned. "You're gonna tease me about this for a while, aren't you?"

"Yep!" came the chipper reply from the teen, firing yet another web as the hedgehog effortlessly hopped over a roof and quietly laughing because he could feel the eye roll from Sonic.

"I guess that makes us even, huh?" commented Sonic, his smirk returning.

"Pretty much!" replied Peter, a question becoming apparent in his mind. "So, how long have you been doing this?"

"A bunch of years." So he did have the experience. That explained it.

Peter fired a web at a nearby street light to his left, zipping away in that direction. The teen looked back at Sonic, who was quickly following behind, rapidly crossing rooftops without breaking a sweat.

"And how do you go so fast, by the way? The friction on your feet must be insane!"

"I kinda was born that way." came the response as the hedgehog shrugged as well as he could while running with his hands behind him, "My shoes protect me from that, which is why I don't burn off my feet whenever I go for a run at my usual speed."

Peter nodded, letting go of his current web and soaring through the sky, letting out an exhilarated whoop at the rush of adrenaline and the winds whipping against his suit as Sonic shot him a knowing grin.

Did Sonic experience this too every time he ran? If so, he completely understood.

After the duo of heroes scoured the city in silence for a while, Sonic spoke up once more.

"So, whaddya say we head back to that Stark guy?"

After a moment of thought, Peter replied with a why not. It would help to see if his mentor had come up with something.

Unexpectedly, Peter shot two webs ahead of him and pulled, rocketing himself forward in the direction of the Avengers Tower.

"Race you!" shouted the human, a cheeky grin on his face.

A shout of "Oh, you're on, Underoos!" burst forth from his partner-in-crimefighting, and the two teens picked up the pace as they approached Stark Tower.

That's all for now! Who do you think wins the race, though?

Anyhow, please leave a review, and I'll see you next chapter!
