Chapter 14: Danger Code
"This is totally fucked up! Why is it always my hand that gets injured.? First, I fell and cracked my wrist in the first grade. I broke it again in the tenth grade, cut it when I was chopping some vegetables, and now this. I am cursed." he ranted as he sat on the examination table, his hand laying out flat, Derek working on suturing it.
"Yeah, that sucks." Derek mumbled, suturing the last stitch on his hand, surveying his work. Ripping off the gloves from his hands, he threw them in the waste bin before writing down some notes.
"So, how long do I have to have them in, Doc?" he asked as Derek applied gauze to his wound.
"Probably a week or so, we have to see how fast it can heal before actually deciding." he replied.
"That's not too long." Aaron shrugged, sliding off the table and stretching his legs.
Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.
"Woah!" he replied, his other uninjured hand going to his head. "I think the injury traveled to my brain Derek. I hear buzzing." he panicked, leaning against the wall.
Derek chuckled shaking his head.
"You have nothing to worry about Aaron, it's just my Blackberry." he assured him, patting him on the back as he fished out his electronic device from his pocket.
"What, you have a call or something? I bet it's from Mer probably whining about hunger, or needing you for her needs." he mumbled, using air quotes from some of the words spoken.
"Not a call, an email actually." he corrected. "From Mer." his voice trailed off quietly. Why would she email him?
"Sweet, you can actually read email on that thing?" Aaron asked in awe.
"Uh..yeah." he replied absentmindedly as he clicked open waiting for the message to load.
"What did she want to tell you that had to be emailed rather than using her mouth. God, that girl can be so lazy at times." Aaron chuckled, moving next to him looking over at the small screen.
The message was short. Very short, but it had Derek in complete confusion.
From: Meredith
To: Derek
Subject: (none)
I'm breaking up with you.
- Meredith.
"Woah, why the hell would she write that?" Aaron muttered in confusion, when Derek too had no idea what was going on. Meredith wouldn't just break up with him just like that.
Everything was going good.
Everything was going great since their talk...
He could almost hear the click in his head as he remembered the conversation.
Flashback
"Of course I'm sure." he said with a smile. "Why, you're saying you would break up with me?" he teased.
"No, I wouldn't break up with you." she said, shaking her head back and forth. "Never." she whispered.
"Then, what is with all this break up talk. Very depressing and will never happen. Break up is such a bad word for us."
"The ultimate swear word." she giggled.
"Exactly. Those words should never be spoken..."
"Or written." she cut in.
"That's right. Break up.." he shook his head in amused disgust. "I think that shold only be used as..." he trailed off thinking off a way to use the words that had categorizes into cuss. "It can be our danger code. If something is wrong, something bad, you just have to tell me 'I want to break up with you' and I will know something is wrong." he said with a smile.
"Seriously?"
"Seriously. I used to have these codes with my parents, incase a stranger came up to me and pretended to be my long lost uncle."
"We have to have a code?"
"Just in case Mer. Just in case." he said with a laugh as she scrunched her nose at him, his body falling onto her kissing her into fits of giggles.
End of Flashback
She was in trouble. His Meredith was in trouble.
"Derek, are you okay man?" Aaron asked as he placed a hand on his shoulder.
He shook his head violently, trying to move his legs only to nearly fall onto the sterilized ground.
"Me...Meredith. Oh, god Meredith."
