Chapter 3
In a land far, far away lies the Kingdom of Fiore, a small peaceful nation of 17 million, and a place filled with magic! Found in every home and sold in every marketplace, for the most, magic is merely a tool, a mundane part of everyday life. For some, however, magic is an art, and they devoted their life to its practice. These people are called wizards. Banded together in magical guilds, they apply their skills in search of fame and fortune. Many such guilds dot the landscape of Fiore. But there is a certain guild in a certain town that soars high above the rest, one of which countless legends have been born. This is a guild that will no doubt continue to create legends well into the future. Its name is Fairy Tail.
Or that's what Mavis-chan explained to me when I first set foot on the island. There was a huge library where I could read everything about this world and the magic it contained. It was a new world from where I came from. And since I won't be able to go back to my own world, I had to get used to the things here.
One day, she sent me out to the world to pick up stuff. Normally, my trips to the mainland were uneventful. But this one, in particular, managed to leave a mark on me for a long time.
As I leaped from tree to tree much like we usually did back in the Elemental Nations, tremors shook the ground and the trees around me.
"Naruto," Kurama, my ever angry-looking partner, spoke from within my mindscape. "I sense something dangerous at three o'clock. Be careful."
"I sense two more signatures with the beast, kit," Matatabi added.
"Gotcha! Thanks, guys!" I said as I went on to investigate.
'I guess there's nothing wrong with a little detour.' I thought along the way.
When I arrived at the scene, true to Kurama's words, a giant beast silhouetted by the shadows of the trees loomed over a young petite girl with short, white hair and blue eyes. She wore a short, dark red dress with a white collar and bow. Upon her arms above her elbows, she wore gold rings with a pale pink fabric flowing down from them. On her feet, she wore tall, black socks along with brown shoes.
He watched as the girl stood her ground with her hands behind her.
"No, get away from there!" An older girl who seemed to be injured tried to stop her.
"Big brother Elf, it's me, Lisanna, your little sister," She said with full trust in the beast. "Our big sister, Mira is here too. We're a family and when times are tough we pull together and work things out."
For a moment, the beast regarded her in silence. I was about to sight in relief, but the girl's actions did nothing to appease the beast on a warpath. It raised its hand ready to knock the smaller girl away.
"Come on, don't be afraid, big brother," she said with outstretched as if giving the beast a hug. "We still love you…"
Everything seemed to go black as the beasts hand went its course on the poor girl. The injured girl screamed as she was forced to watch as her the small girl was about to be swatted away like she was a bug on a window sill. She watched helplessly as the final blow was about to be dealt with.
But the blow would never come…
Wasting no time at all, I took that moment to jump into the fray. Just before the massive hands made contact, I appeared in beside the girl, grabbing her from her spot and jumped to safety. The beast's attack missed causing him to hit a tree instead.
"Wh-what?" The older girl behind was confused with what she saw.
"What are you thinking?" I asked the younger one, who revealed herself to be Lisanna.
"Th-that's my big brother," Lisanna replied. "It's okay. He just lost control of his power."
"Still, that was risky. He almost killed you." I scolded her.
"S-sorry, I thought I could–"
She didn't get to finish as the beast roared after missing his target. It locked eyes on me, the newcomer, regarding me as the new target.
"Hold on while I make him shut up for a while," I told the two.
"Don't kill him…" The older, injured girl squeaked from behind us.
"Don't worry, I got this," I waved off her concern as the beast charged us.
I faced the beast who had now stalked its way in our direction. His glowing purple eyes glowed as he let out a defiant roar. Memories of the times when I succumbed to Kurama's hatred way back when. He reminded me of myself.
"Hey, snap out of it, so you and your sisters could go home," I told him in a calm voice.
Just like earlier, the beast didn't heed my voice. It raised the tree it knocked town earlier to slam onto me. Kurama's red chakra encased my arm as I effortlessly caught the huge tree. The force of the beast's attack created a shockwave that made the two sisters flinch and the ground I was standing on to crack.
"Why did I even bother? I knew that didn't work earlier," I berated myself. "Fine then. Time to go to sleep."
Despite my partner and his siblings still recovering, I couldn't help but borrow a bit more chakra from him. I channeled more of Kurama's raw chakra around my arm causing it to steadily peel off revealing a black and red coating beneath.
The pressure increased over on my arm shattering the tree. The beast controlled Elfman flinched for a second, but he managed to recover quickly raising his hands to hit me. The moment he threw his fists to strike me, I disappeared and reappeared in front of his head. I sent a chakra enforced kick to the beast propelling him back away from the ladies.
I followed the beast to where he landed. I made it just in time to see the beast returning to its original form revealing a white-haired teen styled in a messy bowl cut. He was wearing the remains of a black suit and a white shirt.
"You must be nuts trying to use a power you can't control," I said quietly.
I took a deep breath and willed the chakra on my arm to recede itself from my arm returning it to its normal color. After that, I slid down the small crater that the teen dug with his monster form. I picked him up by the arm and draped it over my shoulder. I took him back to his sisters.
When he got back, he saw Lisanna examining her older sister's arm. I walked over to them and carefully lay Elfman on the ground.
For the first time on that day, I was able to take a good look at the elder of the two sisters. She was wearing a black gothic-looking, overly revealing outfit. It consisted of a dark, skimpy sleeveless shirt adorned with some light curved motifs on the chest, a pair of leather shorts held up by a studded belt with a demonic-looking buckle, and thigh-high boots with stiletto heels, each bearing a skull adorned by a flower on their upper front parts. She was sported a bracelet shaped like a demonic arm around her right wrist, a ring on the same hand's middle finger, and dark nail polish. She let a large strand of her hair cover her forehead freely, and had most of her hair tied in a high, larger ponytail on the back of her head by a massive dark ribbon.
I found myself ogling at the girl. Despite her tomboyish personality she projected, I found her attractive. I didn't know it at that time but thinking about it now, I didn't even see the half of it.
But her appearance wasn't important at that time, she was injured and was in need of first aid. Luckily, I had my pouch with me. So, we patched her up the best we could.
"Thank you for helping us," Lisanna bowed.
I just waved her off. "It's fine. Glad I could get you girls your big brother back."
"Tch, if you even bothered to ask, I am the eldest," Mira said nursing her newly splinted arm.
"Wh-what? But h-he's so–"
"Bigger than me? Yeah, you don't need to rub it in, blondie. Who are you anyway?"
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki," I introduced myself.
"That's a weird name," Mira teased.
A comically large bead of sweat fell from the side of my face at her remark. Before I could retort, Lisanna scolded her.
"Mira, that's not the way to treat someone who helped us." She said. After that, she turned to me and apologized to her. "Sorry about that, Naruto. Mira just loves teasing people."
"Nah, it's okay. It doesn't bother me." I said.
"So, what brings you here?" She inquired.
"Just passing through hehehe…" I answered scratching the back of my head.
"Do you live around here?" Lisanna asked.
"Y-yeah hehehe…" I chuckled nervously. "Anyway, do you need any more help?"
"We'll be fine," Mira answered with a bit of arrogance in her tone.
"I-is that so… I'll be on my way then…" I started to go on my way.
"Wait!" Lisanna shouted wanting to get in one last word.
I turned to face them, more particularly her. I didn't want to stare at Mira, especially in her skimpy outfit. Dammit, Ero-sennin! You rubbed off a bit off your perviness on me!
Anyway, Lisanna bowed her head in gratitude. "Thank you again for helping us."
"Don't mention it. I couldn't ignore anyone in need."
I blitz away through the treetops after that. Back then, I didn't know that leaving them alone was a big mistake.
After I left, the younger of the sisters went back and sat beside their brother. Going to pick up the
That was just one of my exploits. It happened quite a bit of time after I arrived here in what Mavis-chan called Tenrou Island. Before I arrived there, she was lonely. She revealed to me that she was sort of like a ghost. It scared me at first. It brought out old childhood fears I had. (It's a legitimate fear, y'know.)
She explained that it was similar to Sennin no Ojichan appearing to me. That certainly helped quell the fears I had about ghosts and whatnot.
Anyway, after about two years of training, I was able to master dad's Jutsu. Funny thing though, while practicing the jutsu I ended up missing the mark by a mile. Well, I wasn't particularly good at learning jutsu, even back when I was younger, I wasn't particularly good at learning jutsu.
Speaking of learning jutsu, don't get me started on learning about the sealing arts that my mother passed down to me. It was a good thing that there was no one else on the island except the giant animal monster thingies, because I caused whole lot of explosions of that island.
In addition to that, my partners even taught me their jutsus and how to use their powers. The hardest part of all of this was learning to mold my chakra into the different elements. Oh man, that brought back the memories of learning to use my wind nature.
Well, at least I mastered them already. After that, I learned how to sense and store the raw energy in the air. Mavis-chan called it Entermango or something like that. It wasn't just me though. Believe it or not, this was the easiest of all the training I did on the island. After learning to sense the Magic Particles in the air, all I had to do was pull them in. It was basically like sage mode.
Learning all of this took me a few years to learn everything. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking. I could have sped up the process and all that, but I somehow knew that after finishing training, I would have to leave the island.
Well, at a certain point, all good things must come to an end.
That exactly what is happening right now.
"I hate to let you leave after finally having some company," Mavis said holding back her tears. "But, I could never keep you here. You must go and interact with other people.
"One thing's for sure, Mavis-chan." My hand ruffled her hair. "I will surely miss you and your company."
"I will too, Naruto." Mavis turned her back to me. She couldn't hold back her tears any longer. "Now, get going and see the world."
I hugged her from behind. "Hey, this isn't a goodbye, y'know. I can come and visit once in a while."
"I'll hold you to that," She turned to return the embrace.
"I never go back on my word." I replied.
"Now get going! Show the world who Naruto Uzumaki is!"
"Yosh!"
MEANWHILE
Somewhere deep inside the island, a smile crept from the lips of a black-haired young man wearing black and tan robes, though he remained in a deep slumber.
"You play a dangerous game, Mavis. Perhaps, he could be the key. Brother, hurry up and get stronger." He said with his eyes closed.
A crunch of leaves came from somewhere close to the slumbering young man. An unknown presence glowing with power approached him, yet the man didn't show any signs of sensing him.
"Oh how naïve of you to believe that you are still capable of dying," the presence said. "Soon you will understand that all your planning and waiting will all be for naught. Eventually, you will turn into me, but with that man here, you won't be as successful as I. So…"
The presence left an item beside the man.
"Farewell, I must take my leave now," He said, then presence disappeared into the trees.
HARGEON PORT
"Tch, you took your time crossing the oceans." Kurama huffed.
"What? Why?" I asked my partner.
"You could have used our powers to fly across the oceans to save time," My original bijū grunted.
"Lighten up, Kurama." Son Goku told his brother off. "Enjoy the sights, once in a while."
"Yeah, Kurama. What's rush anyway?" I asked the Kitsune.
"There weren't any sights at all, just plain ocean." Kurama snapped.
"Relax, Kurama. Naruto doesn't want to abuse our powers. Isn't that right, kit?" Matatabi said.
"Yeah," I chuckled as I scratched the back of my head. "I just don't want to get hooked on your powers, y'know. If I did, then I am no better than Madara or Usagi no baachan."
The bijū smiled. They have confirmed that following Naruto was the right choice.
When I was back in the real world, I found myself within a crowd of onlookers swooning over a wizard. I walked towards them to see what was going on when I bumped into a buxom blonde girl with a curvaceous body swooning as she walked towards the crowd the same as me. That caused her to fall on her face.
She stood up and turn towards me with an irritated look on his face. "Watch where you're going you–"
She didn't finish her sentence when she saw me. "Oh uh… Have I seen you from somewhere?"
"Uhm…I dunno…I never seen you before, y'know…" I answered as I scratched the back of my head
"Really? Cause you seem familiar somehow. I just can't place where." She said.
"Yes, it's true." I nodded. "Anyway, sorry for bumping into you."
"It's okay. I wasn't watching where I was going there." She said.
"Anyway, what's all this about?" I inquired.
"Oh this? It's just a fan club of a wizard named Salamander, or that's what I heard from the girls." She explained
"Ohh…A wizard, y'say?" That caught my attention. After staying on the isolated island for a couple of years, I wanted to discover other people and how they used their magic.
It was a good thing Lucy offered, "Yes, do you want to go see?"
"Sure, why not? It's my first time seeing the magic here in action."
Lucy gave me an odd look as we walked to the crowd. She was about to ask what I meant by that, but she entered some kind of trance. She had her arm to her chest and she was walking towards the so-called Salamander.
"Lucy, what are you…" I tried to stop her but my senses opened and I noticed a familiar feeling in the air. "This is–"
I grabbed her shoulder and focused my chakra into her. The dazed look on her face disappeared. She looked at me confused at what was happening.
"When did we–"
She never got to ask her question as a pink-haired teen burst from the crowd pushing himself to the front. "Igneel!" he called out
When he got to the front, we watched as the look of excitement vanished from his face as he saw the wizard we were gawking at.
"Who are you?" He asked.
"If I said Salamander…" He introduced himself. "Would that ring any bells to you?"
There was no response. The pink-haired lad wasn't in the middle of the crowd anymore. Instead, he was walking away from the scene with a crestfallen look on his face. Saying that Salamander was surprised by his actions is an understatement. His were almost bulging out of his sockets as he watched the pink-haired teen wave him off just like that.
This made the other spectators go ballistic. They dragged him back to their idol and forced him to apologize. The wizard, being the 'humble' guy he believed he was, calmed down the crowd and gave the pink-haired kid his autograph.
The kid refused it which made the fans even angrier beating him up for his insolence.
"Well then, I appreciate your enthusiasm ladies, but I must go. I still have business at the harbor." He waved farewell to his fans.
"Uhm…that was…uh…different," I told my new friend.
Lucy nodded. "By the way, why did you grab me like that?"
"Well, you had a stupid look on your face like you were in love with him, y'know," I explained.
"Wh-what? Charm magic? But that's illegal!" Lucy exclaimed.
"Was that what it was?" I asked. "So all those girls must be charmed too."
"Uh-huh," Lucy confirmed. "To think that a wizard from Fairy Tail would go to such lengths..."
The popular wizard heard this on his way as he stood on the fire he created. An evil smirk formed on his lips as an idea formed in his mind.
"Fairy Tail? Guild?" I asked her.
"Yeah, they say Salamander is part of the Fairy Tail Guild. Why?"
"I seeee," I said while I stroked my chin in thought. "Say, tell me more about guilds over some food. I'm getting hungry, y'know." As if to confirm my statement, my stomach growled out loud enough for people nearby to it.
"Well, I suppose…" Lucy relented. "I do owe you after you freed me from that spell of his."
"What are we waiting for then, let's–"
A groan stopped me from completing my sentence. The pink-haired teen stood up and stretched the kinks out of his joints. He totally didn't look like he was beaten up by the fans in any way shape or form.
"I think we should take him too," I suggested to my fellow blonde.
"Why? It's not like we have to…" Lucy sounded unsure.
"Yeah, but I feel bad for him after getting beat up by the 'fans', y'know," I said.
"Fine, let's go then…"
(LINE BREAK)
AT A DINER IN THE SAME TOWN
Lucy was on a roll as she talked about the guilds in Fiore. She told the two boys and one cat everything she knew about the guild she wanted to join. She even said the pink-haired kid wouldn't understand anything about wizardry and bragged about being a wizard, herself.
"It doesn't taste the same," I sighed as I gingerly ate my bowl of ramen.
"You don't like it?" Lucy asked.
"It's not that," I said. "I just miss the ramen back at home."
"So, you're not from around here, huh?" Lucy asked.
I nodded as a piece of food flew from beside me to the other side where Lucy sat.
"Okay, okay, take it easy. The foods not going anywhere," Lucy said. "You're going to ruin my makeover."
"So, Natsu and Happy, was it?" I asked. They nodded with their mouths still stuffed with food. "You were looking for an Igneel?"
"Yeah," Natsu said with a sad look on his face. "We heard that a Salamander was in town, so we came to check it out. It turned out to be someone else it the end."
"We could see he wasn't a real Salamander just by looking though," Happy the cat continued.
"I was sure it would be Igneel too," Natsu lamented.
"You don't happen to be looking for a dragon are you?" I asked him.
"Why are you asking? Do you know anything?" Natsu demanded invading my personal space.
I pushed him back to his seat and looked back at my food. "No, no… It's nothing…"
Lucy had a very shocked expression on her face as he listened to our exchange. "H-he's a real dragon?! Did you even think that you won't find a dragon in a human town?"
Both Happy and Natsu had dumbfounded looks on their face. It was like they really didn't think this through. (Spoiler Alert: They really didn't.)
I laughed out loud at their expense, but Lucy adapted an irritated look.
Inside my mindscape, Kurama offered his two cents. "Reminds me of a certain blonde idiot," He said as he let out his own hearty laughter.
"Shut up, Kurama," I said as I left my mindscape with Kurama's laughs still echoing through my mind. Back outside, I wasn't in the mood to laugh anymore and copied the buxom blonde's irritated look.
"Anyway," Lucy cleared her throat. "I have to go now,"
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"Just going to walk around and probably look for the guild I want to join," Lucy stated as she lay some bills on the table.
"Cool, I'll come too!" I said enthusiastically unconsciously doing the same.
Before we could go, Natsu and Happy immediately became teary-eyed. They dropped down on the floor bowing to both of us. "Thank you so much for the food! Thank you!"
I snickered behind the blonde.
"Stop that! You're embarrassing me!" Lucy yelled. "If you have to thank someone, thank him." She said gesturing to me. He insisted that we take you along."
"We thank you for taking pity on us, kind sir! We are in your debt!" Natsu declared.
"Aye, sir! How can we repay you?" Happy affirmed.
"I could get used to this," I said.
Natsu got up to his knees. An imaginary exclamation point appearing above his head.
He took out the autograph he was handed a while back. "Here! You can have this!"
"Uhh, thanks, I guess?"
Lucy, then, dragged me out of the diner to save herself from further embarrassment. Even she wasn't the subject of the two's gratitude, she still felt embarrassed by the scene they were causing.
LATER
We walked through a busy marketplace filled to the brim with different shops that sold armor, seafood, and even weapons. Lucy was walking beside me reading a magazine. I think she called it Sorcerer Weekly. It was a journal for wizards.
"Fairy Tail is creating problems again," Lucy said, her eyes not leaving the pages of the book.
"Why? What did they do?" I asked her.
"It says here that they brought down the Devon Bandit Clan but not without destroying seven private homes in the process." She read the article from the magazine aloud.
Naruto winced. "You said again? So this isn't the first time they did that."
"Yeah," Lucy nodded. "I hear they constantly get in trouble with the Council."
As she said that, we stopped by a blacksmith's shop where I had some kunai forged.
"You must be a really amazing wizard to get in Fairy Tail," Lucy complained aloud. "If that's the case, how do I get in?!"
"That's the guild you said earlier that you wanted to join?" I asked.
Lucy nodded. "Looks like my chances of getting are slim, though."
"We can go and try anyway?" I offered.
"We? So, you want to join? I didn't figure you as a wizard." Lucy said.
A comically large bead of sweat dripped from the side of my face. "I get that a lot."
Our conversation was cut short when a familiar smooth voice spoke from behind us. "Ahhh! The lady from earlier. It's a good thing I found you. I didn't know you were an aspiring wizard of my guild."
Lucy and I turned to see the Salamander from earlier.
"You!" Lucy pointed a finger at him. "You won't charm me again!"
"Yeah. That's not cool at all, y'know.." I added my two cents
Good thing for him that there weren't any other people right now except the blacksmith.
"Relax, that's only used for the show. If you want, I won't use the magic right now. I just have an offer for you." Salamander offered his hand to Lucy.
"We don't want anything you're offering, right Lucy?" I refused.
"Yeah! Not from a disgusting guy like you!" She added.
"Oh, really?" He smirked. "Even a chance to get into the guild?"
We were both surprised by what he said. "You can really get us in the guild?"
He looked at me with a distasteful look. "Not you though. The likes of you don't have what it takes to join."
I frowned. "O-kay…"
"Now run along now you," He told, then he locked his arm over Lucy's shoulder and led her away. "If you'll excuse me, I'll show my new guest to the guild."
I watched them leave. Lucy looked like she had stars in her eyes as Salamander led her away.
"Something here smells fishy…"
