Chapter 7
"Master, you have a message," Mira knocked on the door of the office.
The door opened revealing the short master
"Yes, what is it?" he asked.
"It's about one of the requests, master," Mira explained. "There was an update about the new quest."
"What is it now?" Makarov sighed.
"Wizard scouts have spotted S-ranked assassins skulking around the area," Mira stated. "Despite the town's protests, the job is being reassigned as an S-class quest."
"Assassin, you say?" Makarov asked as Mira handed him the letter which made the master's eyes widen. "Th-these are... Everyone was warned not to engage when you see them."
"Alright, where's the request so I can reassign the rank and place it on the board upstairs." Makarov demanded
Mira let out a nervous grin, "Uhhh, that's the problem, master."
"What is it this time?" The master said sensing another headache/problem brewing.
"I already sent the job out to a couple of wizards before the message arrived," Mira said.
"And who are the two idiots who took the job?"
"Naruto and Lucy, master."
WITH NARUTO AND LUCY
Two wizards and their client trudged up the mountains on the way to the isolated town. Lucy constantly whined about her dress getting all grimy and dirty. She even complained about getting tired of all the walking and requested for breaks multiple times.
"For the last time lady," Tazuna yelled, getting annoyed. "We just had a break a few minutes ago!"
"But I'm tired again!" Lucy whined.
Naruto stopped and lowered his back in front of Lucy.
"I can carry you if you want," he offered.
Lucy turned bright red at his offer. "I-i think I'll walk instead." She said walking past the blonde.
"What?" Naruto asked. "It was a kind offer…"
"I decided I'm okay now," Lucy answered.
"You weren't just a minute ago," He countered.
"I know what i said, but now I'm telling you I'm fine." She said as if it was the final word and walked ahead of the two men.
Tazuna chuckled to the side causing Naruto to turn to look at him. "Look at you two, arguing like an old married couple."
"We are not a couple!" Naruto argued.
Tazuna waved him off, "That's what I said to when I was your age. Look where I am now: I was married, and with a kid. I even have a grandchild."
"Did you say was?" Naruto questioned his phrasing.
"Yes," Tazuna answered. "She died earlier than me unfortunately."
Naruto was silent for a few seconds knowing he touched a sore subject. "S-sorry about that."
Tazuna waved him off. "No, no. it's okay. I told myself that the time for mourning for her was over."
Naruto looked at him in awe at the maturity he was displaying, but what he said next made him lose the respect he gained.
"I have to move on, you know?" Tazuna continued, and then he beamed. "Besides all the ladies out there are waiting for me!"
Naruto sweat dropped. "I kind of expected you would say that. Anyway, why are you telling me this?"
"Look here kid, you can't fight your feelings once they're already there. You have to follow your heart."
"But I am not sure what I'm feeling."
Past the two men, Lucy could still hear their conversation. Her cheeks couldn't help but heat up as she listened.
'I don't know what I'm feeling too," She thought to herself. 'Mom…What do I do in this situation?'
Two pairs of eyes followed their every move as they continued to walk up the mountain.
"Easy pickings, brother," One of the assassins said.
"I agree, brother," The other one answered. "Go for it!"
The younger of the two aimed his weapon at the lady who was walking ahead of the two.
'So, you decide to attack now…' Naruto thought sensing the attack coming. He, then, mistakenly yells out loud, "Shukaku!" to get the attention of one of the tenants residing within him.
"Leave it to me!" The one tailed tanuki cackled as he quickly crushed the rocks on the ground and raised them behind the Celestial Wizard using the sand as a shield.
'Thanks, Shukaku! I love your absolute defense!' Naruto thanked his partner for the job well done.
"Take that, you stupid fox!" The massive tanuki gloated to one of his brothers.
"Yeah, yeah! You do one awesome thing and you think you're better than me," The fox countered.
Naruto ignored his two bickering comrades in his mindscape and focused on the two opponents that had made themselves known.
"There's no use hiding!" Naruto said to no one in particular. "I can sense you from a mile away!"
"I guess it can't be helped, brother," One of their voices echoed through the woods.
"Yes, brother. We have to take the more direct approach." Another voice said.
With a few rustling leaves, the two assassins made themselves known to the party from Fairy Tail.
The first one who looked like he was older had shoulder-length, wild, dark brown hair and dark eyes. He wore a mask that covered the lower half of his face and a large, clawed, poisonous gauntlet on his right hand. His attire consisted of a camouflage suit with bandages around his waist, dark-colored, knee-length sandals and a ragged black cape with the logo of a fox plastered on it whose tail formed an S-shape behind the animal logo.
The second one was younger. He looked and dressed exactly like his older brother except the gauntlet was located on his left hand.
A chain shot out from the older one's gauntlet and coiled itself around the blonde attaching itself on the opening of the other's gauntlet.
"You seem to be the greater threat, right brother?" The older one said.
"Yes, brother, so we are taking you out first," The younger one answered.
"Naruto!" Lucy yelled in worry. She raised a golden key ready to summon one of her spirits to assist his restrained partner.
"Stop, blondie," The younger one warned. "One false move and we will slice your friend here to pieces.
Lucy grit her teeth and lowered her key, "What do you want?"
"Our client sent us to take him out," The older one raised his other hand to point at the builder. "Now, back away slowly so we can complete our job."
Lucy did so for fear of Naruto's life and her own. She slowly backed away so the two can perform their job.
Watching this, the older assassin licked his lips under the mask and looked at Lucy with lust. "After this job, we can have a bonus, am I right brother?"
"Do we have to share her brother?" The other asked.
"We have no choice brother. There is only one of her," the older one said. "Naturally, I will go first since I am older."
Naruto laughed out loud like a mad man despite his predicament, "You guys are talking like you already won."
"You are not in the position to—"
The brothers were pulling from opposite ends hoping to keep the blonde from moving. So, they were definitely surprised when the chains broke from the point that coiled around the blonde and it went slack.
'Thanks, Son!' Naruto thought.
"These chains are enchanted with an anti-magic spell," The older brother's eyes widened. "How did you—"
He didn't get to finish his statement as Naruto yank the chains, pulling the two brothers towards himself. The two brothers slammed into each other and were thrown into a tree. Naruto quickly followed up giving each of them a punch to the gut effectively knocking them out.
"You two weren't even worth the effort," Naruto said clapping his two hands together.
"Naruto!" Lucy said with stars in her eyes. "That was awesome!"
Naruto didn't pay the compliment any mind. Instead, he looked at Lucy with concern. "Are you okay, Lucy?"
"I'm fine, Naruto," Lucy said. "Thanks to you…."
"That's a relief," He said.
Lucy turned to builder remembering the details of the quest. "The request only mentioned about protecting you from simple bandits. It didn't say anything about the assassins."
Tazuna looked down to the ground. "I guess there's no use hiding it now."
Naruto looked at him intently.
"What do you mean?" Lucy said.
"To tell you the truth, the town's mayor knows about assassins that the Duke had hired to prevent me from reaching the pass," Tazuna explained.
"But, why did you—" Lucy began to question him, but the answers came from the most unlikely place. It came from Naruto.
"Let me guess, your town is so poor and starving that it can't afford to pay more than you can't pay more than you placed in the request. Am I right?" he said.
"That's surprisingly accurate, kid," Tazuna rubbed the back of his head. "How did you know?"
Naruto shrugged. "Just some déjà vu. I feel like this already happened to me."
"I have a feeling this job has gotten way out of our league," Lucy said.
"I understand if you don't want to continue the job," Tazuna said. "You can go back to Magnolia. I will just continue on my way to the town. I have to get there. I'll just have to risk my life."
"Don't say that," Naruto waved him off. "We'll continue the job."
"But Naruto, can we really do this?" Lucy said.
"Of course, we can Lucy," Naruto said. "If worse comes to worse, I'll protect you with my life."
Lucy blushed at Naruto's declaration. She was extremely touched by what she said and if she were honest, she was feeling butterflies in her stomach.
"Besides, I wouldn't want to leave the village alone knowing I had the power to help," He continued.
Lucy stared at Naruto with respect. She didn't know if she, herself, could handle the job, but if Naruto says that he got her back, then she can complete this quest.
Tazuna gave Naruto a thankful smile then he bowed his head in gratitude, "I give you my thanks for continuing the quest despite the threat brewing."
"Don't mention it," Naruto answered. "Now, we should continue walking, but stay sharp."
"Right!" Lucy and Tazuna answered together and they were on their way again.
UNKNOWN LOCATION
A loud knocking came from the door in the apartment.
"What? Can't you see I'm busy?" The man lounging in the suite called out in annoyance.
The door shot open revealing a short, plump man with skinny arms and legs. He was wearing a formal black suit with his jacket fastened with a large gold button and adorned with a decorative red flower. Beneath his jacket is white collared shirt, a blue necktie and dark blue boots. His face sports a curled mustache which directly protrudes from his nostrils as well as a small tuft of hair atop his head.
"I hate to be here while my mansion is under siege and I have yet to find out why, but one of my territories is about to be overrun by a couple of wizards," The plump man said walking into the room. "Reports have arrived that your subordinates you have posted to wait for the builder have been easily defeated and handed over to the Rune Knights."
"Tch," The lounging man complained.
"Have you been listening to me?!" The plump man snapped when he saw the man that he was having a conversation with produced no response only clicking his head in annoyance.
"I heard you loud and clear," The man said. "Now go away! You're disturbing me!"
"I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation," The small man said. "I'm beginning to think that you and your guild are incompetent fools—"
The short man paused when a huge cleaver was pointed at his throat.
"Do not misunderstand, duke," he said with that last part said in a mocking tone. "Do not compare me to the small fries of this guild. I am leagues above them."
The lounging man stood up to full height revealing himself for the first time. He is revealed to be a tall, noticeably muscular man with greyish light skin, short spiky black hair, dark brown eyes and small eyebrows. The lower half of his face was covered by a mask made of bandages and a bandana on his forehead. His upper body was bare revealing a wolf mark placed on his left pectoral. That part was only covered by a belt to which the giant cleaver was attached. In his lower body, he wore baggy pants with a striped pattern and mimetic wrist warmers extending up his elbows matched with leg warmers on his feet.
"It's nice to see you doing something for once," The short duke said.
"It's a pain, but the wizards who took the job were unexpectedly capable, so I, myself, am going to meet them and end them permanently," The man holding the cleaver said.
"Alright, now if you could please get your sword out of my face?" The duke pleaded.
"Fine! I'll do it myself," The assassin retracted his weapon and clipped it to its holster. "Now, get out of my room. You're spoiling the mood."
FAIRY TAIL GUILD HALL
"What do we do now, master?" Mira asked the Guild Master. "Most of our S-class Wizards are currently not here."
Makarov turned to her. "We have no choice…You have to go and bring them back."
"But, master…" Mira looked stunned. "I don't know if I can still go on an S-class quest after that incident…"
"There is nothing else we can do," Makarov sighed. "You are the only one available. We just have to hope that you do not run into the assassins."
"If you say so, master," Mira relented. "I will leave right away."
Makarov gazed over to the horizon. 'I hope you two are okay.'
Mavis walked over to him unseen by the rest of the guild. "I think you'll be surprised by Naruto."
"Sh-shodai-sama!" Makarov said trying to look discrete. "A-are you sure you want to walk around the guild here."
"It's alright," Mavis answered. "They haven't noticed me so far."
"So, you're saying the guild can't see you?" Makarov said in shock.
"Yes," Mavis nodded. "They will be able to perceive me once they are ready."
"When will that be?" He asked.
"Makarov, that would be cheating." The First Master giggled.
"I-I suppose…You said I would be surprised by Naruto?"
"Oh yes! You shouldn't be quick to count him out just yet. No one here has seen his true power."
"You're saying his power is at S-class level? Why hasn't he shown anyone yet?"
"I have seen his techniques. His most powerful ones are destructive and would cause widespread damage. Plus, I believe he doesn't want to be seen as some sort of deity."
"So, what are you saying?"
"I believe he deserves a surprise after this job, don't you think?"
WITH NARUTO AND LUCY
"You know I can't help, but think I've heard your name before," Lucy said as they climbed.
"What makes you say that?" Naruto asked.
"I don't know…" Lucy said. "Your name just sounds familiar somehow."
"Tell me again why we are talking about this?" He asked again.
"Well, with nothing to do but walk, my mind just wanders around."
"Look alive people," Tazuna said disrupting their conversation. "We're almost there."
Lucy raised her hand horizonatally over her eyes and strained them to look for what the builder was talking about.
In the distance, they could see a construction site. There were mounds of soil over on the side from where they were digging. And from the area they were done making, the land was flat and no longer rugged making for travel of carriages easier and navigable.
"I can see it!" Lucy said. "Nothing can stop up now!"
As soon as Lucy said that, a massive cleaver flew to their direction.
"Get down!" Naruto yelled to which his two companions obliged lest their heads be cut off by the rogue weapon.
"What's going on?!" Lucy yelled.
"You've gone and jinxed us, lady!" Tazuna scolded.
It was then, the weapon's wielder decided to show himself at the tree his weapon impaled itself upon.
"I must say your senses are sharp for a bunch of weaklings," The man said.
"I was thinking when you were going to show up," Naruto said.
"So, you were expecting me," The assassin said.
"Not you in particular," Naruto lied not wanting to tell the others about Kurama's powers of detecting malicious intent. "But after that first attack, I figured they would send someone stronger that the first attackers."
"I see," The man plucked his sword out of the tree. "You would have to forgive me then. I am just doing my job."
"Who are you?" Lucy asked. "Why do you need to kill him?"
"He is no one special," he answered. "He is but one of the builders who dares to interfere with my employer's business."
"As for me, you do not have to know my name. You will all die here anyway." The assassin closed his eyes. "I do hope though, that you will at least put up a fight…"
As soon as he said that, mist appeared out of nowhere and obstructed the view of everyone present.
"All right then," Naruto cracked his knuckles. "I will call you Nise no Zabuza." (That's fake Zabuza for all of us who need Google Translate.)
"Tsk," Naruto clicked his tongue as he felt the killing intent coming from his opponent.
He quickly activated the seal that was still on Lucy's back and appeared behind her surprising the busty blonde. He quickly moved the builder aside and parried a slice from the assassin's massive blade with a much smaller kunai. And surprisingly, it was able to hold its own.
"You are pretty quick for a weakling," The Fake Zabuza said. "No one has ever survived, yet alone block one of these attacks before."
Naruto was about to retort, but the assassin blended in with the mist making him disappear from view.
"Who are you calling weakling?! All you've been doing is hiding in the smoke! Come out and fight me for real!" Naruto yelled loud enough for the assassin to hear. To flush him out, he quickly but discretely made the necessary hand signs for his technique.
"Futon: Daitoppa!" Naruto quietly said releasing a massive amount of wind that blew away the fog and even made the leaves sway.
"Wind Magic?" Lucy said as she held her skirt down not wanting to flash the two males present, but with the force of wind being too strong, small glimpses of her panties came into view. She turned to see Naruto looking away with a small tinge of red on his cheeks and Tazuna looking at her with hearts in his eyes and his mouth hanging wide open with drool spilling the side of his lips.
"Show me more!" Tazuna pleaded.
"Uhh, obviously no!" she shot down the request.
Lucy, then flashed Naruto (No! Not that kind of flash. The other thing! Geez!) *sigh* Anyway, she flashed Naruto an irritated, but flustered look and scolded him saying, "Warn me next time you are going to use a spell like that!"
"S-sorry…" Naruto rubbed the back of his head.
"Impressive," The Fake Zabuza said as he was hidden in the trees. "I suppose there is no use hiding."
"Yeah, so you better come out now coward!" Naruto taunted.
"Be careful with what you wish for…" the Fake Zabuza said as he raised his magic power.
"I guess for old time's sake…" Naruto stated as his eyes glowed blood red in tribute to his former master when he fought in the same circumstances.
Those were the last things said as all hell had broken loose.
A small shockwave was felt by Lucy and Tazuna as a great cleaver collided with a much smaller three-pronged kunai that wasn't supposed to withstand the force of the much bigger weapon. Naruto effortlessly pushed the weapon away. The assassin quickly recovered adjusted his weapon so he would slice Naruto in his midsection which surprisingly cut him deeply. He immediately followed up with a kick to the stomach making him fly backwards hitting a tree.
"Naruto!" Lucy yelled in worry as she watched Naruto crumple down to the ground clutching his stomach.
"You didn't even last a second," The assassin said. "Now, to finish the job."
Lucy watched in horror as the assassin walked up to them licking his blade at an area on the blade that sliced through Naruto like there was blood on it. The two didn't notice it then as they were to see that there was no blood at all.
Just then, Naruto appeared out of nowhere and kicked him in the face sending him flying. Without missing a beat, Naruto appeared behind him catching by the back with his palm. Sensing this, the assassin sliced backwards with his blade.
To everyone's surprise, the blonde disappeared before the blade even touched him and reappeared in front of him and sent him upwards with an upward kick. The blonde disappeared again popped up behind his opponent.
"Argh!" The assassin growled as Naruto paused in the air.
Fake Zabuza made a tightened the grip on his weapon making another move on the blonde, but bandages appeared out of nowhere tightly wrapping around the assassin.
"What kind of spell is this?" he demanded.
"Now that you can't move, you run your mouth?" Naruto taunted as they reached the arc of their ascent.
They began descending headfirst down to the ground spinning like a top.
"Where are they?" Lucy asked no one in particular.
"Beats me!" Tazuna answered. "You're asking the wrong person!"
The two onlookers strained their eyes to look for the two fighters. Then, a loud slice in the air caught their attention and a loud boom forming a crater in the battle field in front of them.
Naruto appeared in front of them taking a knee with his eyes closed. He rose to full height and opens his eyes greeting them with a peace sign.
Lucy was surprised as he stared at Naruto. For one thing, there wasn't a scratch on him despite seemingly getting sliced earlier. And what got her attention the most was Naruto's eyes. She swore that she remembered they were blue. Now, his eyes red with a strange comma pattern arrange in a triangle.
"Eye magic?" She asked.
"Uhh…yeah?" Naruto answered.
"Really you aren't sure," Lucy pressed.
"Uhh, then yeah," He answered more sure of his answer this time.
"So, you have the Sand Magic, the Wind Magic, now Eye Magic," Lucy listed off the magic she had seen so far. "And oh, the Teleportation Magic too. Just how many magic do you have?"
"A lot," Naruto said simply.
"Can you show me?" Lucy burst out into fangirl mode.
"Isn't it better you see them in combat?" Naruto suggested.
Lucy frowned puffing her cheeks like a little girl who was refused to be given a candy. "Fine," she said looking away.
Naruto walked forward deactivating his Sharingan. With his eyes now in their blue color, Naruto sent her a thousand-watt grin and patted her head. "Besides—"
He didn't need to finish his statement as his stomach growled loudly telling his companions of his hunger.
The frown disappeared on Lucy's face and she raised her hand to her mouth as she let out a cute giggle. Naruto also raised his hand from Lucy's head to the back of his head rubbing it in the same way he always did and letting out a nervous laugh.
"Oh, Naruto," Lucy said.
Lucy turned to Tazuna and asked, "We are close to the town, right?"
"Ah, yes, yes," the builder answered. "When we reach the construction site, it's only a matter of time till we reach town."
"Alright," Naruto said. "Let's go!"
Naruto made sure to tie Fake Zabuza perfectly so he wouldn't escape. He would have just brought him down the mountain so that the Rune Knights would arrest him, but since they were on top of the mountain and there was his stomach situation, he just told his companions that the Rune Knights would just come for him since he gave the two siblings to them earlier.
But that's now what he really did, without his companions knowing, the blonde shinobi created a shadow clone who carried the assassin back down the mountain.
When the party from Fairy Tail was already far away and the clone Naruto had already started descending the mountain, a voice called out to the clone.
"I'll take it from here."
A/N: The fight scenes are kinda short. Tell me how I did.
And uh...Is my reason for the job turning S-class believable? I just mirrored Naruto canon where the appearance of Zabuza and crew increased the difficulty.
A question for this Author's Note, What storylines in Fairy Tail Canon do you want to see and which ones do you think I should just come up with an original arc to replace it. Also, any ideas on the arc I should do?
Thank you for reading guys!
Haki no tsukuyomi: Here's my take on it. I think Naruto was fighting for one or two days straight, give or take. They must have been exhausted. And here comes Mr. Golden Boy imbued with unlimited magic power, they wouldnt stand a chance. But still, thank you for you review, my struggle now is how will Golden Boy make it an even playing field when the time comes
ArrowsToAthens: Thanks! I'm glad you liked it..
Mr. Haze: Hope I can live up to expectations and of course, Mavis would come visit his favorite student.
Inner self whispers: Naruto is Mavis' only student.
Self: Uhhh...At least he really is Naruto's favorite student...
Inner self: *rolls eyes*
