Shark: This is payback day Quattro.

Quattro: Hello Shark. How are things? You still upset about our duel at the nationals? You know when you got kicked out.

Shark: That never would've happened if you didn't set me up.

Quattro: You got me there. By the way, how is that precious sister of yours doing?

Yuma: Shark has a sister?

Shark: What happened to her is all your fault. I'll never forgive you. You made me lose sight of who I am as a person, and as a duelist. I know I'll never get to change what I did back then, but today, I get my revenge!

Quattro: Then let's duel. Just make sure you don't peek at my deck.

Suddenly, Trey launched a Duel Anchor at Shark, binding his wrist.

Shark: What is this thing?

Troy: It's a duel anchor. It won't fade until either your duel ends or he decides to release you.

Shark: How do you know so much about this thing?

Troy: I'm not working with them if that's what you're asking.

Quattro: Trey, this is between me and Shark, you stay out of it.

Trey: I'm sorry, but Shark has no numbers brother, so there's no need for you to duel him, is there? Vetrix always says our mission comes first.

Quattro: I'll have to crush you later Shark.

Shark: You can't leave! Come on, I challenged you!

Quattro: Well if you want to face me, make it to the finals. I'll be waiting there.

Shark: Quattro, you coward!

Trey: Calm down, you'll still get to duel Shark. You just get to duel me instead.

Bronk: Tori, help me with Caswell.

Just then, an ambulance could be heard approaching.

Yuma: How did they get here so fast?

Troy: That would be my doing. I called in the paramedics after their duel with Quattro ended.

Yuma: Thanks Troy.

Troy: Don't get the wrong idea. I didn't do it for you, I'm just doing my job and ensuring the well-being of the participants of the carnival.

Yuma: I'd better come with you guys.

Bronk: No, you stay here and support Shark. We can take care of Caswell, don't worry.

Astral: Yuma, I agree that you should remain here.

Yuma: Alright, I'll stay then.

Shark: I guess I'll have to take care of Quattro after I beat you! It's crunch time!

Trey: I'm prepped and primed.

Shark: Then let's settle this. Ready when you are.

Augmented Reality Vision Link Established

Both: Let's duel!

Shark: 4000 LP

Trey: 4000 LP

Trey: I'm going first Shark. And I'll start with the Sunken Kingdom field spell. Now any water attribute monsters we play gain 300 attack points. In addition, Chronomaly monsters can't be targeted for attacks by level 4 or lower monsters.

Yuma: Ahhhh! You should've warned us we'd be underwater! Someone give me an oxygen tank quick!

Astral: Yuma, this ocean is virtual, remember? Now please try and salvage what little dignity you have left.

Yuma: Hey!

Trey: Next I summon my Chronomaly Mayan Machine.

Level 3/Earth/Machine

ATK 1500/DEF 700

Trey: Next I'll place a card face-down and turn it over to you, Shark.

Yuma: What's that Chronomono thingie?

Astral: I believe you mean Chronomaly. They are artifacts that are too advanced to have been built by your primitive ancestors. Who made them or where they came from is a mystery.

Troy: But then I wouldn't expect the guy who sleeps through history class to know these things.

Shark: I draw. And I'm summoning my Hammer Shark. Thanks for playing this Sunken Kingdom field spell. Since my Hammer Shark is a water monster, it gets 300 attack points stronger.

Level 4/Water/Fish

ATK 1700-2000/DEF 1500

Trey: But due to Sunken Kingdom's other effect, monsters that are level 4 or below can't attack Chronomaly monsters, making your shark about as dangerous as a guppy.

Shark: You think this field spell can protect your monster, but you're wrong because I play the Falling Current spell card. This card lets me raise or lower the level of one my monsters by up to 3, so I'm lowering the level of my Hammer Shark by 1.

Hammer Shark: level 4-3

Trey: And I thought you were a good duelist. You could've used your spell to raise your monster's level, allowing it to attack, but all you've done is waste your card.

Shark: Tell that to Big Jaws! Since I activated a normal spell this turn, I can let Big Jaws loose to help me take a bite out of your strategy.

Level 3/Water/Fish

ATK 1800-2100/DEF 300

Troy: So that's why he lowered Hammer Shark's level.

Yuma: What do you mean?

Astral: Shark now has two level 3 monsters on his field, meaning he can xyz summon.

Shark: And now I overlay Hammer Shark and Big Jaws in order to build the overlay network, and xyz summon Black Ray Lancer!

Rank 3/Dark/Beast-Warrior

ATK 2100/DEF 600

Shark: And since Xyz monsters don't have levels, your Sunken Kingdom can't stop him from attacking your Mayan Machine.

Yuma: Great move Shark!

Troy: Agreed.

Shark: Go Black Ray Lancer! Attack Chronomaly Mayan Machine with Shimmering Spear Slash!

Trey: 3400 LP

Trey: I activate the Stonehenge Methods trap card. With it, since you destroyed my Mayan Machine, I can summon any level 4 or lower rock type Chronomaly monster from my deck in defense mode, so I'm summoning Chronomaly Colossal Head.

Level 4/Earth/Rock

ATK 800/DEF 1600

Shark: Guess I've done enough damage for one turn. I place one card face-down and end my turn. You're up.

Trey: If you insist. I draw. And I summon Chronomaly Golden Jet in attack mode.

Level 4/Light/Machine

ATK 1300/DEF 1400

Trey: Now I activate the Orichalcum Chain continuous spell. With it, the next time I xyz summon, I can do it using one less monster.

Shark: Is that so?

Trey: But it does have a risk. If chain is destroyed, you gain control of the monster I summoned using its effect.

Shark: He's willing to take a risk like that just to summon an xyz monster?

Trey: Now I use Colossal Head, Golden Jet, and the effect of my Orichalcum Chain in order to build the overlay network and xyz summon Number 32: Shark Drake!

Rank 4/Water/Sea Serpent

ATK 2800/DEF 2100

Shark: Impressive.

Trey: It gets better. Since Shark Drake is a water attribute monster, it gains 300 attack points because of Sunken Kingdom's effect.

Shark Drake: 2800-3100 ATK

Trey: Now Shark Drake, take down Black Ray Lancer with Deepsea Destruction!

His monster fired a blast of energy that morphed into its head before the blast bit down on Black Ray Lancer, destroying it.

Shark: 3000 LP

Trey: And now I activate Shark Drake's special ability. When it destroys your monster in battle, I can use one overlay unit to summon your monster back to your field in attack mode, only it loses 1000 attack points, and Shark Drake can attack that monster again.

Yuma: That sounds totally unfair. He can attack Shark's monster again?

Astral: Indeed. The ability is quite rare, and also quite effective.

Troy: I agree. And with Shark Drake's high attack points, it's a strong monster to be sure.

Trey: Shark Drake is the most relentless attacker you've ever seen. It's gonna destroy your monster all over again. Go Deepsea Destruction!

His monster attacked again, destroying Black Ray Lancer and sending Shark flying.

Yuma: Shark!

Shark: 1000 LP

Troy: Not good, Shark only has 1000 life points left, while his opponent has more than triple that amount.

Yuma: Shark, are you gonna be okay?

Shark: I'm gonna be fine. One or two attacks aren't enough to beat me.

Trey: Well just to be sure, I'll give you a break and end my turn with a face-down.

Yuma: What can Shark do? He's done for.

Troy: He can still win.

Yuma: How?

Astral: By taking command of Shark Drake.

Shark: Your number's gonna be mine, and I'll stop at nothing to get it! I summon Skull Kraken in attack mode.

Level 3/Dark/Aqua

ATK 600/DEF 1600

Shark: And now I activate Skull Kraken's special ability. When it's summoned, it automatically destroys a face-up spell or trap on my opponent's field, so say goodbye to both your Orichalcum Chain and your number.

Orichalcum Chain was destroyed, and Shark Drake moved from Trey's field onto Shark's.

Trey: Perfect. Now that you've done exactly what I wanted you to do, I can complete my mission. Thanks for the help Shark.

Suddenly a dark aura surrounded Shark and he began groaning in pain.

Yuma: What's wrong Shark?

Troy: The number is trying to take hold of him.

The number 32 appeared on the back of Shark's hand, and he could hear Shark Drake's voice in his head.

Shark Drake: Shark, you will let me enter your mind and soul. With me as your ally, you will no longer need the help of your so-called friends. I am all that you need in this world. Let me take hold.

Shark: I don't need you. I won't let you control me! I'm in control, and you will obey me!

The aura faded and the number symbol disappeared from his hand.

Shark: Okay, let's go!

Trey: He should've been possessed by the number.

Astral: Shark has mastered Number 32's power.

Yuma: No way.

Troy: Shark has a stronger will than I thought.

Shark: Your plan backfired Trey. Go get him Shark Drake! Deepsea Destruction!

Yuma: Do it! If this works, Trey will take damage big time.

Trey: Not if I play my Antikythira Gear trap card. This will let me change your Skull Kraken to defense mode and then use it to protect me.

Sharj: Not so fast, I activate my own trap. Extreme Pressure Power lets me destroy one of my monsters, and then I can draw 1 card. Looks like I just out-trapped your trap.

Shark Drake struck Trey, knocking him onto his back.

Trey: 300 LP

Shark: I'll put two cards face-down and end my turn.

Yuma: Way to go Shark!

Troy: He's back in this. One more hit and he wins

Trey: He's tougher than I thought. My mission was simple: to give Shark a number. Vetrix told me I should let Shark win the duel once I had accomplished that, but he never said I had to make it easy for him. Now Shark, I draw. And I play the spell card Chronomaly Technology. By banishing a Chronomaly monster from my graveyard, I can draw two cards from my deck, as long as I send one of them to the graveyard. And now I summon Chronomaly Crystal Bones from my hand. This card can't be normal summoned, but it can be special summoned when only you control a monster on the field.

Level 3/Light/Rock

ATK 1300/DEF 400

Trey: And now Crystal Bones' effect activates. When he's summoned by his own effect, I can summon Chronomaly Crystal Skull from the graveyard. Rise up Crystal Skull!

Level 3/Light/Rock

ATK 900/DEF 600

Astral: Trey now has 2 level 3 monsters on his field.

Troy: Which means he can xyz summon.

Trey: Now I overlay my level 3 Crystal Bones and Crystal Skull. With these two monsters, I build the overlay network and xyz summon Chronomaly Crystal Chrononaut!

Rank 3/Light/Psychic

ATK 2100/DEF 1000

Yuma: Only 2100 attack points? It's no match for Shark Drake.

Trey: I activate my monster's special ability. By using one overlay unit, it can't be destroyed in battle this turn, and any damage I would take from battles involving it is inflicted to you instead.

Shark: Say what?!

Troy: This is bad. The difference between their monster's attack points is 1000, which is the same as Shark's life points. If he doesn't do something fast, he's going to lose.

Trey: Go Crystal Chrononaut, attack Shark Drake with Reflect Flash. Face it Shark, you're sunk.

Shark: Then I'll get un-sunk with the spell Plate Salvage. This will negate the effect of your field spell for two turns, which means Shark Drake loses 300 attack points.

The ground began to shake as the temple was raised above sea level.

Yuma: Woah, who drained the bathtub?

Shark Drake: 3100-2800 ATK

Shark: 300 LP

Astral: Brilliant. By eliminating the field spell's effect, Shark has spared some of his life points.

Yuma: Except now they both only have 300 life points.

Troy: The next attack will most likely determine the winner.

96: This duel just got even more interesting.

Trey: Shark is great at thinking on his feet. I should just let him win, but where's the fun in that? I place one card face-down and end my turn. Throw your best at me Shark.

Shark: You asked for it, I draw! Okay Shark Drake, shatter that Crystal Chrononaut with Deepsea Destruction!

Trey: Not so fast! I activate the effect of Chronomaly Colossal Head in my graveyard. By banishing it, my monster changes to defense mode.

Shark Drake's attack struck but didn't damage Trey.

Yuma: Darn. He didn't take any damage since his monster was in defense mode.

Troy: You're forgetting something.

Shark: I activate Shark Drake's special ability. By using one overlay unit, your monster is summoned back to your field in attack mode with 1000 fewer attack points, making it a prime target for Shark Drake to sink its teeth into all over again.

Trey: Rats.

Shark: If you were thinking I'd forget Shark Drake's special ability, you were wrong. Now Shark Drake, take down his monster again!

Trey: Actually, I was right. I knew you would remember Shark Drake's special ability, which is why I had this in reserve: the trap Chronomaly Ley Line Power!

Shark: A trap card?!

Trey: Exactly. It's a trap that exchanges the attack points of our battling monsters, which means my Crystal Chrononaut is stronger than Shark Drake. Sorry Shark, but it's over.

Shark: You're right about that. I figured you'd be counting on me to use Shark Drake's effect, which is why I had a little trap of my own ready and waiting. And here it is: the trap Sea King's Verdict! This card can negate any trap card you activate during the battle phase, which means your Ley Line Power is cancelled out.

Trey: It's cancelled out?

Shark: Shark Drake, let's finish this duel and finish them off. Go Deepsea Destruction!

Shark Drake continued its attack and tore through Trey's monster, sending him flying.

Tre: 0 LP

Winner: Shark

Yuma: Amazing! Shark totally reeled that guy in!

Astral: This was a most impressive victory.

Trey: Not bad Shark. You may have won this duel, but next time will be different. I've already made it to the finals, and I look forward to facing you there.

Yuma: How did he win so many duels already?

Trey: You can hold on to that number card if you want. Think of it as a souvenir of our duel

A bright flash of light appeared and when it faded away, Trey was gone.

Yuma: Where'd he go?

Suddenly his Duel Gazer went off. He answered it and saw Tori on the screen.

Yuma: How's Caswell?

Tori: He'll be okay. The med team told us he just needs lots of rest.

Yuma: That's great. I'll be over as soon as I can. Thanks for calling for an ambulance Troy.

Troy: Like I said before, I was only doing my job. But if you really want to thank me, then make sure you make it to the finals, because I'm almost there myself.

Yuma turned to the side and saw Shark boarding his motorcycle.

Yuma: Shark, wait!

Shark: Listen Yuma, I want you to keep your distance. I still have a score to settle with Quattro!

Yuma: But Shark! Why isn't he letting us help him?

Troy: Yuma, there are some things in life that we have to do ourselves, and it's clear that for Shark, this is one of those things. I'll see you around.

Astral: Now that Shark has a number, we will certainly have to duel him again someday.

Meanwhile in another part of the city, Trey had returned home and met with Vetrix.

Vetrix: That was excellent work Trey. Shark won't suspect a thing because of the way you let him win.

Trey: To be honest, I think Shark would've won no matter how hard I tried.

Vetrix: You're just being modest as usual.

Trey: But sir, Shark wasn't possessed by the number, so I failed.

Vetrix: Not at all my boy. Your mission was a success. There is now a seed of darkness inside Shark's soul that will grow over time, consuming him completely.
