Chapter 1: Ryomen Sukuna
"Why would anyone keep a Special Grade cursed object in a place like this?" Megumi said, scowling in annoyance, "That's like asking someone to try to find it." In his hand was a phone, through which he was talking with Gojo Satoru, his sensei.
"Recovering it should be no problem then." He heard Gojo's voice say on the other end, nonchalantly.
Keisuke sighed lazily, obligingly walking over to it and opening the doors to peek inside, "Oh, Megumi, we might have a problem." he deadpanned, looking at the empty interior of the box.
"What?" Megumi and Gojo, who was on speakerphone, said together.
"It's empty."
"Hah?!" was Megumi's intelligent response.
"Really? That's hilarious. Maybe it went for a stroll in the night." They heard Gojo say, amused.
"I will punch you," Megumi growled nearly silently.
"I'll steal your credit card again." Keisuke vowed.
"Well, you can't be back without it, so good luck!" Gojo replied cheerfully before disconnecting the call.
Keisuke rolled his eyes as Megumi cursed under his breath, using colorful words to describe Gojo, "Now, now, Megumi. Let's calm down. If it makes you feel better, I'll ask Inumaki-senpai to help me put salt in his sweets next time." he said, patting the boy on the shoulder.
"It doesn't," Megumi mumbled back.
Tracing the cursed finger led them to a school where they witnessed Itadori Yuji's extremely impressive athletic ability.
"He did that without cursed energy?" Megumi blinked in surprise at the pink-haired boy casually breaking a world record and brushing it off like it was an everyday occurrence.
"Maybe the guy has a heavenly restriction? I mean, Maki-senpai could probably do that." Keisuke mused thoughtfully.
Before he could ponder on this, however, the Itadori guy blazed past them at such a speed that his legs practically resembled a blur, but before he did, he bumped shoulders with Megumi, who grunted at the impact, but then his eyes widened.
"Sparks fly or something?" Keisuke joked.
"The cursed object... this guy has it! Hey, wait up!" Megumi darted towards the running boy.
Keisuke highly doubted Megumi would be able to catch up with them. But he followed anyway like a good teammate.
Unfortunately, tracking him down took a long time. It was already night by the time they found him, and it was in a hospital. Keisuke opted to wait outside while Megumi went to confront the boy and retrieve the finger, and hope to god it wasn't misplaced or worse.
"Ah, moonlight, such a delightful companion you make..." Keisuke said, leaning against the main door of the hospital, munching on a gummy. Truly, he felt relaxed while looking at the moon and the stars, and while he would prefer a much peaceful setting, such as the view in Tokyo Jujutsu Tech, he'll settle for this for now.
Of course, good things never last. Megumi burst out of the main doors, grabbing Keisuke by the collar and pulling him along, "Gah, what the fuck, Megumi?! Slow down!" Keisuke yells, stumbling as he tried to keep up with the dark-haired boy. Idly, he notices the boy they had been looking for, Itadori Yuji, following behind them, also running "What's happening!?" he demanded, now on edge.
"Itadori's senpais in his schools are going to remove the seal on Sukuna' finger. We need to get there before they do that and save them." Megumi said in a rush.
Keisuke didn't need to hear more. As soon as he heard 'remove the seal' and 'Sukuna's finger', he was sprinting at equal speeds to the other two boys, "You're fucking serious?!" he exclaims, looking over at Itadori.
"Yeah, they said that they would remove the seal, my senpai took a real liking to it!" The boy answers, "Fushiguro, you said they'd die if they remove it?! What are you talking about?!"
"Sukuna's finger acts as a beacon for cursed spirits, they'll all get attracted to it like moths to a flame. These cursed spirits prey on humans! Now, which way?!" Megumi answered impatiently.
"Left!"
"Fuck. Megumi, the seal isn't gonna hold, is it?" Keisuke grunted out.
"The seal is ancient and Sukuna's finger is far too powerful, it might as well be paper, at this time!" Megumi agreed.
"This way, it's a shortcut!" Itadori yelled as the two quickly followed his directions.
As soon as they get to the school, though, they all froze. The aura was so overwhelming, they could all feel it. Itadori stopped in his tracks, staring up at the building with shock. Keisuke narrowed his eyes, This is the power of a single finger…
"Where are they?" Megumi demanded.
"Fourth Floor." Itadori answered promptly.
Keisuke turned to Megumi, "Let's go, Megumi." He said seriously and jumped the gate in a single, fluid jump.
"Keisuke, wait!" Megumi yells before growling, "Fucking reckless... Itadori, you stay here, okay? I'll go save your senpais." He ordered the boy.
Keisuke didn't hear anymore, narrowing his eyes. He infused cursed energy into the talisman on his wristband, and a chain with a spear attached at the end popped out of it. He threw the chain with all the force he could muster, and the chain defied gravity by going in a straight line, embedding itself into the wall next to the window of the fourth floor.
"This is gonna hurt." He muttered as the chain instantly retracted, pulling him towards the window, which he kicked at the exact moment, shattering the glass. He fell onto the floor next to the glass, a few shards piercing through his clothes and through the skin.
Keisuke hissed in pain slightly, but it was nothing he couldn't handle.
Three ugly curses took notice of his appearance and rushed towards him. That's an oxymoron. He thought.
None of them are really challenging, he notes idly. They're only Grade 4, Grade 3 at best.
But there was no time.
"Oh, well," Keisuke said, smirking, "I guess I'll play a bit rough."
Keisuke extended his chain and infused more cursed energy into it. The entire length of the chain became covered in bright blue ethereal flame. The curses all stopped, their eyes widening at the sight of the flaming chain blade.
With a grin, he ran towards them, "Cursed Technique: Death Spin." He growled, spinning his chain spear around his body four times, hitting the curse all four times, causing them to howl in pain as the spear cut its body while the flames burned it, causing the foul smell of burning flesh to fill the air.
All of them burst into purple smoke, vanishing into the air, signifying a successful exorcism.
"Keisuke!" He heard Megumi yell.
"About time." Keisuke commented.
"Stop running off, please." Megumi replied flatly, as they both began to sprint forward, "I was telling Itadori to wait for us as we save his friends."
Loud slurping noises brought both of their attention to the curse that was behind them. Megumi cursed under his breath as Keisuke readied his chain blade again.
"Demon Dogs!" Megumi growled out, making the handsign. Out of the shadows burst out two dogs, one black and one white, "Go and feast." He said coldly.
The dogs wasted no time, jumping the curse and tearing off chunks of it with their teeth. Keisuke cheered, "Good boys! Who's a good boy~" he cooed, leaning down to pet the dogs, much to their delight, "You are, and you are~"
"There's no time for this." Megumi sighed.
Instantly, Keisuke straightened, "Of course, you're right. Let's go, Megumi." He walked forward with purpose.
"It's this way." Megumi deadpanned.
"I knew that." Keisuke said nonchalantly.
The two boys ran ahead, the two demon dogs right on their heels. Keisuke narrowed his eyes, "I sense more curses ahead." He warned Megumi, who nodded.
"Go ahead and feast!" He ordered the demon dogs, who quickened their pace and ran ahead of the two. The two dogs tore through several low-level curses that had gathered, "How many are there?" Megumi grunted.
Keisuke didn't answer, instead he spun his chain spear around, "Cursed Technique: Death Spin!" The chain spear cut through all the small curses, exorcising them all instantly.
"Keisuke, watch out—!" Megumi's was cut off when Keisuke was slammed into the wall by a massive curse, easily Second Grade. Keisuke grunted as his back impacted the wall harshly, the back of his head bouncing off of it, causing stars to appear in his vision.
Fortunately for Keisuke and unfortunately for the curse, he was coherent enough to take advantage of the proximity to stab it with the blade of his chain spear. He bombarded the weapon with his cursed energy, this time, the flame wasn't blue, but a bright crimson. The curse shrieked in immense pain, forcefully ripping the blade out of his body, the smell of burning flesh once again filling the air.
The curse swatted at his head, but Keisuke ducked, wrapping his legs around the curses' and tripped it with a leg scissor takedown. Not a second after, the white demon dog descended upon it, sinking its teeth into it.
Megumi helped Keisuke up as the demon dogs finished off the curse, "Fuck, that hurt." He hissed, rubbing the back of his head, stumbling a bit. He must be concussed.
"Are you okay?" Megumi asked, concerned.
"Worry later, we have a finger to find." Keisuke grunted, brushing his hands off of him.
Only a minute later, they found the two students in the clutches of a large, round-shaped curse.
"Shit, is it trying to swallow the two students and the finger at the same time?" Keisuke asked with wide eyes.
Megumi was just about to attack it when the glass beside them shattered inwards. Both boys flinched, and looked around, only to find Itadori jumping through the window and landing a kick on the curse, grabbing both students and jumping away, landing besides them.
"Itadori?" Megumi gasped.
"Did this guy just jump up to the fourth floor?" Keisuke mumbled in shock. Damn, this guy literally Hulk jumped up. How many squats did he do to get that leg strength?
"That's a curse? It's not what I was expecting." Commented Itadori idly, not at all scared to be in the presence of the curse.
"What... what time is it?" The curse drawled, reaching out towards Megumi, who swatted it away like a fly, just as the two demon dogs pounced it.
"Dinner time, looks like," Keisuke quipped, "Hey, we haven't officially met. Asagi Keisuke, nice to meet you, Itadori-san." He said brightly.
"Oh, uh, nice to meet you." Itadori said, taken aback by the cheerful greeting, especially given the situation.
"Normally, I'd be pissed that you came here despite me telling you not to," Megumi began, but then reluctantly said, "but good job."
"Hey, no worries, man. Just one question though, why are the doggos eating the curse?" Itadori asked, scratching the back of his head in confusion.
Keisuke simply raised an eyebrow, He can see the shikigami?
Megumi was clearly thinking along the same lines, "They're my shikigami... you can see them?" he asked, confused. Itadori simply tilted his head, nodding.
"Well, yeah."
"Normal people can't see curses unless you're in a life or death situations." Megumi replied.
"'Gumi, the dude just jumped up four floors without using any cursed energy, I think normal is far out of the window, if you get what I mean." Keisuke said, snickering at his hilarious pun.
Itadori chuckled awkwardly, while Megumi sighed, "Is this your first time seeing a curse?" the latter asked, ignoring his hilarious friend.
"Huh? Yeah, I haven't seen a ghost before this." He said.
"Then… aren't you scared?" Megumi asked.
"I was scared at first…" he admitted, "But y'know, people can actually die."
Really? I never knew that. Keisuke thought to himself sarcastically. That sentence had the same energy as 'People die when they're killed.'
"Huh?" Megumi deadpanned.
"W-what I mean is, I want the people I know to have proper deaths. Not that I really get it myself, ugh, I'm not making sense, am I?" Itadori said, rubbing his hair in frustration.
"I get enough to know that you want to help people, that's good enough for now." Keisuke said, "Search their pockets, they should have the object with them."
"Oh, right." Itadori searched the girl's pockets, "Aha! Found it!" He exclaimed happily, pulling out the red finger with the sharp nail. It was odd to think that such a tiny little thing was considered to be one of the most dangerous special grade objects in all of Japan.
"So that's it, huh? Ryomen Sukuna's finger." Keisuke mused.
"A miracle that one of the curses didn't manage to swallow it." Megumi added.
"Swallow it? Why would anyone want to do that? Does it taste good?" Itadori asked, inspecting it closely as if wondering if it did indeed taste good.
"It's a centuries old finger that's most likely rotting. You tell me." Keisuke said flatly, rolling his eyes at the boy's sheepish look, "Curses want to swallow it to gain cursed energy. Just one finger is enough for even the lowest of curses to turn into a frighteningly powerful one. Hand it over."
"Right." Just as he was about to place the finger in Keisuke's hands, a massive fucking hand grabbed Keisuke, causing him to yell in surprise and threw him out of the window callously.
"Keisuke!" Megumi yelled as Itadori just stared in shock, "Run, you idiot!" he yelled at Itadori. The demon dogs grabbed with Megumi and Itadori and moved them away safely. They both glanced out the window that Keisuke was thrown out of and saw him about to be eaten by a curse, "Nue!" Megumi yelled, making a sign with his hands, but then another hand of the curse grabbed him and threw him towards the wall.
Outside, Keisuke was very annoyed. This is the second mission in a row where his shirt had been destroyed, this time due to glass cutting up the back. He was so annoyed that he didn't even care about the shards of glass digging into his back.
"Alright, motherfucker. You wanna dance?" He growled at the curse that was just about to swallow him, "Cursed Technique: Inner Flames!" Blue flames of Hellfire appeared around his body as the curse screamed, throwing him away, causing him to land on his back. Just as he did, Megumi landed hard beside him, "Yo, partner. You too, huh?" He grunted, standing up.
"We're surrounded." Megumi panted, bleeding from his forehead.
"That just means we can attack in any direction." Keisuke grinned darkly, extending his chain spear, "Perfect for me. Cursed Technique Amplification: Death Spin." Blue flames appeared around the blade before turning a bright crimson. He spun it around six times instead of four, catching the curse in front of him each time, cutting it up and instantly cauterizing the cut with the flames.
"Can you handle the one in front of you?" Keisuke asked, turning his head to look at the fuh-ugly monster that had tossed Megumi through the wall.
"Yeah, sure." That said, Keisuke noted that Megumi didn't seem to know where he was, his eyes were roaming wildly.
He was a bit too distracted, and was rewarded by the curse in front of him grabbing his chain spear, that was still extended, and pulling it towards him, slamming him roughly into the ground, causing a crater to form. Keisuke spat out blood.
The curse didn't let up, picking him up and slamming him six more times into the ground like he was a rag doll. Keisuke grit his teeth when it pulled him up by his chain as he hung limply, "...That all you got?" he taunted breathlessly, the air having him forced out of his lungs at the repeated slams. His body was suddenly surrounded by blue cursed energy, "My turn then. Cursed Technique Amplification: Inner Flames Stage 2!" He growled out and instantly, all the cursed energy around his body turned into crimson flames, the curse let go, but Keisuke wasn't ready to let go yet, "Ey, where you goin'? I think we're starting to feel a connection, y'know?" He crooned, eyes wide with crazed intent.
He poured more cursed energy into the flames, causing them to turn a blinding white as he followed through into Inner Flames Stage 3. The curse howled, swiping at him multiple times, and he only managed to dodge a few times. A gash appeared on his cheek when it swiped particularly hard across his face, sending him flying. The curse seemed to be wailing in pain, trying to regenerate its arms that have were burned by Keisuke's flames.
"Ah, you won't be getting your limbs back for another minute, at least. You see, my flames are unique. They actually burn cursed energy, but only when it's in the white-colored form. Meaning that you won't be getting your limbs back until your cured energy regenerates." He explained in a faux-sympathetic tone, "Which gives me enough time to finish you off." he coldly said, all traces of humor now gone. Besides, I've almost reached my limit… white flames take a stupid amount of cursed energy to create, using it once per day is my limit… I need to end this quick.
He extended his chain spear and threw it towards the curse, missing it by almost an entire foot. Keisuke grinned, pulling it back, and the chain wrapped itself around the cursed spirit, which began to trash wildly.
The spirit howled in pain when the chains suddenly erupted in blue flames, wrapping itself even tighter around the curse. The blue flames turned red. Flesh melted like liquid as the putrid stench filled the air.
Then Keisuke pulled.
Body parts flew every which where. Purple, vile-smelling blood covered the rooftop and some of it landed on Keisuke, who grimaced, "Uh, I'm burning this shirt once I get back." he said, swaying slightly on his feet. Fuck, I've used too much cursed energy… "Megumi, where are you?!"
Just about 10 meters from him, Megumi heard his voice, "Keisuke, don't come here!"
"What? Are you naked or something?" Keisuke said sarcastically, following his voice and collapsing down to his knees next to Megumi, panting heavily, his vision blurring due to exhaustion, "God, I thought I was getting better at controlling my flames—"
"Oya oya?" Keisuke froze when he heard the unknown voice, "A Hasashi? Who would have thought."
He turned to look, only to freeze at the sight of Itadori, covered in black tattoos and red eyes. Four red eyes. He dimly corrected himself. Indeed, Itadori now had a second pair of eyes right above his cheekbones.
"Itadori…?"
"He ate the finger…" Megumi answered quietly.
That would mean that this is… Sukuna.
"You don't seem to be as powerful as him, however. And you don't seem to be at your fullest either…" Sukuna drawled, "Now, I could just kill—
Suddenly, Sukuna's hand shot up to grab his own chin, "What do you think you're doing with my body?" The two boys heard Itadori's voice come out.
"How… how are you able to move?"
"I mean, it is my body."
The tattoos faded as Keisuke forced himself to stand. Woah. He thought as he swayed in place, nearly falling over. And he would have fallen over if it weren't for Megumi, who caught his arm and steadied him, "Fuck, is that Itadori or Sukuna?" He hissed.
"It could be a trick." Keisuke weakly agreed.
"Itadori Yuji, don't move!" Megumi said, setting Keisuke down, "Under Jujutsu Regulations, I will exorcise you as a curse!" he said, getting into a stance.
"W-wait, hold on, I'm alright! Really! It's me, Yuji! More importantly, all three of us are pretty banged up, we should get to a hospital." That did sound like Itadori.
But it could be Sukuna, mimicking Itadori's voice to get them to lower their guard, which was far too easy around Itadori, Keisuke noted. The boy just had a warm and welcoming presence.
The hell am I thinking? He shook his head of the thoughts. He gritted his teeth, standing up and extending his chain spear.
"What's the situation?" Keisuke slumped forward with relief when he heard Gojo's voice. Ah, the idiot should be able to handle things from here on out… He thought, closing his eyes and slipping out of consciousness.
